I'm thinking of doing Pep Band for Basketball, but I don't know who's doing it. I don't think anyone's doing it because it's not required and I think it's a Sophmore trying to put it together...

RinoaHeartilly Miangel Our first basketball game is Tuesday. HELL YEAH. XDDD I love basketball games... they're just as fun as football games, but they're WARM. ^^ Our first basketball game is Tuesday too! xd I'll still miss MB... but this is my first time doing Pep Band, so I'm still exited ^_^ We're getting Pep Band shirts too, and for free! The athletic dept. in our school is paying for them. 3nodding biggrin Lucky! I had to pay for mine... and I had to pay TWICE because we got a different shirt sophomore year. My freshman year they were black w/ gold writing... now they're white w/ black and gold writing. I liked the black ones better - if I was klutzy and spilled something on it, it didn't matter 'cause no one could see it. XDD

We had our symphony concert last night. I HATE F#!!!!!! Okay, so it's not that bad, but our first song had about nine F#s, and I missed eight of them. I came in a count early on one song, and our--um--interesting trombone girl screwed up on Rock Rock Merrily on High (probably one of the easiest songs ever, even easier than Pomp and Circumstance.) It was very noticable too. Our clarinet guy is awesome!!! I also indirectly insulted a trumpet player (or trumpets in general) and had a nice long conversation with a fellow flute (who plays bari-sax in the band) in favor of listening to the beginning strings. Beginning Strings=Pain. I think that I talk too much. Bye bye!

Saito_Style oh the flute section thats the girl section if you know what I mean. There are more girls than boys that play the flute, but that doesn't automatically make it okay for you to call it a girls section sad I'm sure there are many male flautists that are offended by that remark. whee

XDD I want as many band-related shirts I can get xd Last year the sophmores had to pay again cuz' the BD decided to get a new MB shirt. We just found out that our Pep Band shirts are gonna have a Pantehr head on them and it's gonna be wearing an eye patch and a pirate hat xd It's some inside joke that has to do with pirates when they go 'arrr' whee I didn't really get it cuz' i wasn't exactly listening when he was explaining it, but the BD got this whole outfit and they gave him a hat and an eyepatch and a hook, which he says he can't wear since he has to conduct, but I don't see why he can't wear it. When he first put on that hat everyone was laughing, and then I was like "OMG I HAVE MY DIGI CAM!!!" xd so i took a pic of him and later found out that you could see the back of the head of the guy that I like xd heart

We had our band concert tonight. I went and cried right after it. I suppose I'm too critical, but I missed every one of our 16th note runs, and we had a lot. I couldn't play in tune. I sounded awful.
On another note (haha "note" get it?) I bet Lauren would much more tolerable if she would compliment us. I don't think I've ever heard a nice thing come out of her mouth. Even if it's not the most sincere thing, I wish she'd say something nice about us. Was I really this bad as a section leader?
Anyone have any tips for getting sixteenth note runs down.

Generally when I have to play really fast my fingers kinda move on their own and it's like I have no control over it O.O but if I were having the problems you are, I guess I'd play it over and over again at a slow tempo, and then gradually start to play it faster. 3nodding I had my concert yesterday. We did fairly well, cept in jazz. The other flutes sounded awful, at least the one that was standing by me did. I only regret not brining my digi cam to take pics heart xd

Our homecoming pep assembly was today. FINALLY. XD It was SO much fun... which was good because our last assembly was horrible. >.< There were three flute players sitting in front of me (I was on sax, of course), and it pissed me off SO bad because they weren't even playing. They didn't come in on some songs, and when they did they'd play a couple bars and stop. They refused to use their lyres, so they had to lean and look at their laps. x.x;; Saddest thing? All three were in wind ensemble. Me and tenor guy told a couple of the other wind ensemble people about it during lunch... they thought it was really bad. Grwah. I hate my section sometimes. >.<

Actually, I refuse to use my lyre (when I actually had one that is) either. Though if I had one that hooked to my flute I might use it. My friends and I just look off of our laps, but we still play. We even have a little dance for I'm a Believer because the flute part is all of three different notes played twice in a row. Very boring. Apparantly we don't have any basketball games for awhile, but we also have to play at the opening assembly for the new school. We also have this thing we're doing in February at the college, and Mr. May invited Bill Gates, and even called up Ophra (or however you spell her name) to get the email address of the guy who wrote the music for Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and all that good stuff.
Finally, my friend and I are suppossed to play at the senior center. Does anyone know where I can find some good flute/cello duets?

During Pep Band for us we take stands up in the stands xd therefore we don't need to use lyres. It does look kinda tacky, but since Pep Band isn't a requirement and only for those who want to participate of their own free will, the teacher can't tell us to go and memorize it like for MB and so we use stands.

Yeah, its just me. smile I'm wondering... What kind of solo pieces is everyone working on? And is anyone preparing to audition for ensembles durring the spring? I'm auditioning for wind ensemble on flute and for symphonic band on oboe. I don't know what I'm playing yet though. We have to start symphonic band late because we have an extended marching season. RinoaHeartilly I want as many band-related shirts I can get xd hehe. I definitely have... 6 band shirts and 2 band shorts from high school. And so far I've got 1 shirt and 1 windsuit (whole band outfit=schweeet) from college. I know its incredibly dorky to wear band stuffs outside of band functions but uh... yeah. ^^; RinoaHeartilly Actually, I refuse to use my lyre (when I actually had one that is) either. Though if I had one that hooked to my flute I might use it. My friends and I just look off of our laps, but we still play. We even have a little dance for I'm a Believer because the flute part is all of three different notes played twice in a row. Very boring. I don't blame you for not using your lyre. Those things are more than annoying. >< And I know how you feel about I'm a Believer... its a great song thouh, lol. Anyways, we played "Lose My Breath" this year and the piccolos only played two notes. To make it worse, the notes were concert A-flat and conert G so we only moved one finger... the smallest finger, lol.

Heh, we played Cleveland Rocks my freshman year, and the flutes had SUCH a boring part. And now we're playing it again this year... the tenor part is SO much better. XD But the tenor can get some boring stuff too. We get a lot of background... it's not as bad in pep band as it is in concert, though (I've sightread off the other tenor a couple times 'cause I didn't have my flute).
Yeah, those lyres ARE annoying (I know... I used one for two years), but the thing is, we're REQUIRED to have/use them, so those girls shouldn't have been looking off their laps. And if they absolutely HAD to look off their laps... they should have been actually playing, AND sitting with the rest of their section (the other flutes were two rows in front of them... they were behind the clarinets and next to the altos). Gah. The flute section makes me angry. And I have to play flute ALL next week to get ready for the concert. No pep music until we get back from break. ;_;

we're required to have lyres for marching band as a part of our grade. don't have it and we get marked off. UGH. oh well. it's better than having to crane our necks for two hours.
