I own 3 trumpets (1's a cornet). I'm lucky! But 1 trumpet sucks. It was given to me by some1 who can't tell a trumpet fom a tuba. It doesn't even play. My cornet is REALLY OLD too. But I don't care! I have a nice shiny Getzen silver trumpet.

On a somewhat related note, does anybody know how to decipher the trumpet model numbers? I know the first digit signifies the general quality of the horn, but I'm lost beyond that.
Example:
Senga (my silver Yamaha trumpet): 4335G

I have a trumpet and a cornet, so I voted two trumpets in the poll.
My trumpet is a King 601, silver plated, circa 1975-79. That is, it's a King from when Kings didn't suck. It's a pretty solid upper level intermediate, but of course I seek MORE!
My cornet was my sister's from when she was in band for a year. It's some sort of intermediate Yamaha, laquer and rose brass. It's not a bad horn but it could use some work.
Mouthpieces -- trumpet: Bach 3C and 1C, cornet: Yamaha 11, I think. I can't be bothered to go check. It's a lot smaller than my trumpet mpcs, though, which sort of defeats the purpose of playing cornet.

I'm a first chair trumpet, but I don't see why nobody sells their extra trumpets.

Danule I'm a first chair trumpet, but I don't see why nobody sells their extra trumpets. It's like people who have extra cars. Do you really need one? No. But they're different from each other, and it's nice. It's just a matter of whether or not you've got the money. And if you're a pro, it sometimes makes a pretty big difference. But then it's a tool for your job, so it's sort of a different situation.

Danule I'm a first chair trumpet, but I don't see why nobody sells their extra trumpets. Personally, I use my good trumpet for concert band and jazz band, and my student one for marching, field show, and football games. After all, the bad one's already been run over by a backdrop... what else could I do to it?

I have a Silver Yamaha trumpet that was my Dad's in the seventies. I seriously suck at trumpet, so I don't really care about it much.

Carmel Hmm, well, when I was in your position, I went and got my silver Yamaha, which has been beautiful. (Model number 4335g, if that matters). You might also want to think about getting a new mouthpiece to go along with your new trumpet... the 7C default really sucks. Get a 5C at least. (I use a 3C, and am never going back. Ever.)
