Larissa and Poff carried the newly made bright and cheerful dreamcatchers upstairs and headed into the blue room that Larissa chose when she first moved into Aria. It was a bit bare now, since she had transferred to the master bedroom with Garnet. She hung the dreamcatchers on the bedposts and lay down, getting comfortable. She cuddled Poff close to her and stroked her while they drifted off for a nap, hoping the dreamcatchers would catch any bad dreams.
Thankfully they seemed to work, and Larissa woke sometime later with her familiar, feeling well rested and refreshed. The pair went to the bathroom to take care of business and wash their faces, and came out feeling comfortable and much more awake. Larissa lad Poff on her shoulder, but the cat wasn't putting her nose in the air. She was just sitting there, like it was normal. "Well, shall we go and work on our magic? Let's do it outside in the garden, in case of any mishaps or backfired spells" Larissa said.
Poff stretched a little and nodded "Yeah I'm ready to practice. Let's go" she agreed.
The two went downstairs and were on their way outside when they heard music coming from somewhere. Curious, they followed the sounds and saw Garnet in a large room. A gym, by the looks of it. But there was ice all over the floor. Garnet was singing and skating, and didn't seem to notice them. Poff watched her familiars flying around. "Maybe one of my powers will be levitation" she said hopefully.
Larissa hushed her "Come on. We won't disturb her. I don't want to ruin her fun. Let's just go". She headed outside and took her wand out of the pocket of the blue wool dress. She was glad for her closed in shoes since the snow out here was cold. "Umm...okay how do we want to do this?" Larissa asked, looking around the garden.
Poff pointed a paw "Over there. There's a clearing. And I can sit on that tree" she indicated a small, bare tree with sturdy branches.
The witch waded over, leaving deep footprints in the rainbow streaked snow. She placed Poff in the tree. "Okay, so, now what? How does this work? You're going to help me somehow, right?"
Poff nodded, getting comfortable in the tree, her claws dug into the bark. "Yes. I can feel magical energy inside. I think I just...concentrate" she squinted her eyes in concentration and started to glow a faint blue colour, a small magic aura around her. "Okay, meow try casting a spell. Any spell. This will amplify it" Her yellow eyes were glowing.
Larissa bit her lip. "...okay. Um...I just need to choose one. Let's make it something that won't backfire too badly in case of accidents. Umm...maybe this" she cast a healing spell at a random direction. It flew into one of the gems on the gemstone trees and made it light up green before settling into the gem's core, the glow dying down a bit.
Normally she had to concentrate on a crystal or gem as she channeled the healing spell into them, and it took almost an hour to make one strong enough, and that would last. "Wow, that worked straight away! Nice" she smiled, turning to look at Poff.
Poff chirupped encouragingly. "Great. Now try that spell you used on the slime blobs that time. the crystallicize thing"
"Uh, err...okay" she said "I'm just gonna point it at something harmless. She aimed it at a snowy pine tree, aiming for one of the pinecones. She concentrated and a zap shot from the end of her wand and hit the pinecone. It tinkled as it was hit and crystallised into a clear brown coloured thing, before falling off the tree into the snow. Larissa walked over to it and picked it up. "Hey, looks like it worked. The whole thing turned to crystal"
She brought it over to show Poff and they stared at it. It didn't revert to wood, so they set it aside and she practiced more on rocks, twigs, insects and even snow balls. Her spells were stronger and lasted longer with Poff's amplify spell in effect.

I wound down from my dance after I started to feel sore. I skated off the ice and the skates vanished into thin air, and I strode out into the hall, feeling better. Much better.
But as I stood in the hall, I felt... alone. I checked the dining room, she wasn't there. Not her blue room either, and she wasn't in my room. I finally threw on a vibrant red and gold silk robe and stepped out onto the balcony overlooking the garden; there she was with her cat.
I considered saying something, but they looked focused on what they were doing. Perhaps they were training? Hm. Gossamer perched on the railing, and sapphire hung from the little railing as well.
I settled down, deciding to watch them. What do you think?
They're trying, at least. Sapphire thought. But they have little in the way of direction.
Yes well... if they won't accept a teacher there's nothing to be done about that. I thought, lounging on the balcony and watching as well.

They had been practicing for an hour or so when Garnet wandered to the balcony and spotted the duo. There was a pile of crystallised objects beside Larissa. Nothing of any value, just leaves, rocks, sticks, pinecones and a few snowballs. Some of the gems on the gem trees were glowing with energies inside. The green ones were the one healing spell she knew of.
She put her wand away and rubbed her hands together, blowing on them to warm them up. "Brr, it's cold out here. And I'm getting hungry. Let's go back inside" she said, walking over to Poff and picking her down from the tree.
Poff snuggled into her warm, soft partner and purred in her arms. She looked a bit worn out, but she seemed happy with their training session today. "Yes, I think I could use something warm to eat as well. Your spells were much stronger than normal, I noticed! Those crystal items are probably going to stay like that for some months"
"That's because you helped me, Poff. I couldn't have done it without you" she smiled, walking through the snow and shivering as she wrapped her cream scarf around her cat familiar.
Poff snuggled down happily. "While I'd love to take all the credit, don't forget your hair clip that Garnet gave you, that's making the spells more long lasting too"
"Oh, yes, I forgot I was wearing..." she stopped talking as she looked up and saw Garnet on the balcony coming into view, along with Gossamer and Sapphire. Her cheeks reddened further even though they were already pink from the cold air. She spoke when she was close enough for Garnet to hear "Hi. We were just doing some training..." she said sheepishly, a bit awkward. "How long were you watching us?" She paused for a bit, glancing at Garnet for a moment before her gaze quickly skittered away. She looked down at her familiar and mumbled "I...we saw your ice skating. It was very pretty. You looked cool. And umm...the hairclip really helped us practicing our spells!" she pointed to her head, where the hairclip glittered against her light orange hair. "Poff did really well for her first lesson"
She was nervous, and she shifted a bit on the spot, feeling bad for things she said or agreed with earlier. "So umm, I was thinking of cooking dinner tonight. If...you don't have any plans, you can have some. I'm making extra for you anyway" She didn't tell her it was Dragonsbane, since she wanted it to be a surprise. She had some of it hidden in a wrapped packet in the back of the freezer behind the other frozen foods. Ever since hearing that Garnet liked it and trying some herself and finding out it wasn't poisonous to humans or familiars, well, she found a few recipes online and read them off her phone screen.
Poff Yawned and licked her lips. She was tired out but hungry, having worked up an appetite using her magical energy to power her partner's spells. She had felt something shift and unlock inside her mind while they practiced, but she didn't pay it much thought apart from a passing curiosity. It would be her Cat Step spell. But it'd be a while before she could try it out. She had to tap into it first and get used to using the yellow coloured energy.

They noticed the three of us, soonish after we had collected on the balcony to watch. They looked to be done with their training for the moment, seeming cold from the chilly garden.
I smiled when Larissa approached. "Not long. I just finished my ice skating. I feel a lot better then I did before." I peered down at her, before leaping over the railing to land next to her, picking Larissa up and hugging her, pressing her against me. I was plenty warm for the both of us.
"And I would love it if you cooked." I said, carrying Larissa into the house. I took her and Poff to the kitchen, both Sapphire and Gossamer following behind, and I set them down in the warm kitchen as I sat down next to the table.

"That's good. I'm glad" She replied softly to Garnet. She meeped in surprise when Garnet leaped over the balcony rail to land next to her, flinching a bit. Soon she was swept up in those strong purple gem arms and she hugged Garnet back, Poff gently sandwiched between them.
She looked up at Garnet while being carried back inside the house. "Well good. Because I'm going to make one of your favourites" she said. "As well...an apology. For what I said before. In the heat of the moment, it sounded good but when I calmed down and thought back over it, I realised some of the things I said were hurtful and wrong. So...I am really sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you or Sapphire and Gossamer. Poff and me are going to try our best to get better and make sure that there's harmony for all of us living together"
Poff nodded and agreed "Mrrhrr" she said, making an agreeing purry sound. "I'm going to try not to be so...snobby, as some people have said" she said, as though finding it difficult to say. "And..well, other things for improvement. I can't promise instant results but I'll try my best. But I just won't train with any teacher but Larissa, we agreed on that and that's our promise to each other"
Larissa kissed Poff's head. "Yes, that's what we decided" she said. "We'll be okay". She smiled and put the cat on the table corner before going to the kitchen and putting on her frilly pastel pink apron. She started taking the frozen Dragonsbane leaves and shoots out of the freezer and chopping them up to use in dishes. She was working fast and with skill. She was a really good cook, since her parents had both taught her the skill. Soon there was a big pot of soup, two pies, and a few other dragonsbane goodies cooking away. The smells of the herbs and spices and meat and vegetables filled the kitchen. She even made a big cake, that was still baking because it would take two hours to set properly.
Larissa asked Aria to serve up. The table was given a fresh tablecloth and floral display of winter flowers. Then the soup, bread, pies and other goodies all travelled onto the table and into the plates and dishes. It smelled really good and was all hot and ready to eat. Larissa took off her apron and sat down. She placed tiny dishes before Gossamer, Sapphire and Poff and served them some food. "Here you go. I know you two don't normally eat up at the table but since I like Poff to, I thought everyone should be treated the same".

I didn't say much but just settle down next to the table and watch with a smile. I watched her cook with a smile, leaning against the table while my tail swished slowly back and forth.
It wasn't long before the room smelled delicious. I waited eagerly at the table for the food to be brought over and served.
Both Gossamer and Sapphire had been chilling out near the ceiling; with Sapphire hanging from it (like she usually does) and Gossamer perched on the molding. This was where the two of them generally ate and hung out during mealtimes; (they still love mealworms and Larissa gets rather squeamish when watching the two of them eat those).
They looked at the dishes that Larissa had set out for them. I could see out of the corner of my eye as the two of them looked at eachother, still rather reserved after all that had happened. I mentally urged them to relax and come eat dinner with us.
Gossamer lit first, followed by Sapphire as they lit on the table infront of the little bowls. They were silent as they looked at the food; Gossamer seemed okay though Sapphire was feeling awkward due to the fact that she was on all fours with her belly on the table.
I watched the two of them as Gossamer started to peck at the food, while Sapphire tilted her bowl of food towards her and started eating.
I laughed as I lifted a bowl of to my hand and I started to slurp it down. Mmm. Yummy.
When I was done I set the bowl down and licked my lips; and Sapphire finished hers. Gossamer was taking his time with his food, pecking bits apart and swallowing.
"Good soup." I said to Larissa, before moving onto another dish. I paused though when I felt that Sapphire was still feeling mighty awkward on the table, so I leaned over and let her climb into my hand. I lifted her to my hair, where she shrunk down and then gripped a lock of hair with her feet, hanging upside down once more.
I smiled at that and continued eating.
"The food was good." Sapphire said.

They ate dinner together and it was nice. It felt almost like they were a family. It was a really nice feeling. Larissa ate politely, though she ate quite a lot and so did Poff, having expended quite a bit of magical energy and needing to replenish their stores. Larissa smiled at Gossamer as he pecked away at his food, and at Sapphire, who was eating although she did look a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully the food was good enough to make up for the inconvenience. Larissa kind of forgot that bats tended to do everything upside down.
Once the meal was over, Aria began clearing the leftovers away into containers and putting them in the fridge, and then washing the dishes. The cake was ready and frosted for dessert but everyone was probably too full to eat it. So Aria put it under a glass cake dish where it sat and looked pretty.
Larissa smiled at Garnet softly when she complimented her soup and then looked at Sapphire, surprised that the bat was speaking to her. "Uh, thank you. I'm so glad you liked the food" she wiped her face and mouth with a napkin as Poff groomed herself neatly.
"Well, what shall we do now? Garnet? Is...are we still..." she blushed and looked down, a bit ashamed and embarrassed, twisting the napkin in her hands. "I mean, do you want me and Poff to sleep in our old room tonight? We put dream catchers up, just in case"
She felt like things were smoothed over between them now, but Garnet might still want a bit of space. Larissa wanted to be close to her mate and snuggle up but she wasn't going to push in if Garnet wasn't ready yet.

When the food was done I sat back and felt content, though I was quite visibly eyeing that cake. But I didn't want to dig in and eat it all, so I refrained. I may have to go hunting in the morning.
I glanced to Larissa when she spoke, seeming embarrassed about what had happened earlier today still. She was wondering if I cared for her to sleep in bed with me tonight.
"I've gotten over it." I said with a shrug. "I don't mind if you join me tonight. If you want to. May want to bathe in the Holy water though, to be safe."

She saw Garnet eying the cake and stifled a giggle. Silly dragon, she could probably eat that whole cake on her own. Larissa wouldn't be surprised if she decided to take a midnight snack or something and half the cake ended up gone by morning.
Her heart skipped a beat when Garnet said she was over their spat and Larissa smiled genuinely bright and warm. "Me too" she admitted, softly, blushing as she looked into Garnet's emerald eyes. Garnet suggested a bath in holy water.
"Okay, I'm feeling kind of sweaty after cooking in the heat of the kitchen anyway. I'll go take a quick bath". She rose from the table and leaned one shoulder down a little. "Come on kitty cat" she spoke to her familiar.
Poff, seeing the gesture, trotted over the table and leaped onto her shoulder, getting settled.
"See you in a little while" she looked at Garnet fondly as she walked past, heading upstairs to the bathroom and bedrooms.
****
A short while later, there were screeching sounds from the bathroom along with loud meowing. Larissa was trying to calm down her familiar, who was shrieking over her fur. "It's neon green! Neon green! I look like a cave fungus!" Poff howled.
Larissa came hurrying into the master bedroom with Poff in her arms throwing a fit, her fur puffed up on end as though she had gotten a fright.
Larissa herself was in a pink knee length nightie, a pink fluffy sleeping gown and some wooly white socks. Her light orange hair was briushed out around her shoulders. She smelled of holy water. Poff smelled nice too but clearly was unhappy with the colour of her fur. Larissa looked for Garnet "Garnet do you know how this might have happened? Poff's fur is green!"
Poff meowed "I'm supposed to be white! White! Now I'm the colour of mucus! Change me back!"

I was lying on my bed, reading a book while my tail swished back and forth slowly. I heard the sound of Poff's yowling and looked up when Larissa, carrying Poff, came into the room.
I took one look and the thought of what Gossamer did finally clicked in my head. I blinked for a long moment, before Gossamer and Sapphire (who had been in their normal perch places) burst out laughing-- and their mirth was so contagious that I started laughing as well. I laughed hard, rolling onto my stomach and covering my head with an arm as I laughed. "Hahahaha!!!"
I tried to calm, but when I looked back up at Larissa and Poff again I just shook my head and rolled onto my back this time, starting to laugh once more.

Poff's eyes narrowed and she pouted, her tail lashing "When I found out who did this -" she started, but Larissa silenced her, petting and scritching under her chin and round her ears.
"Hush hush, it's okay, Poff. It was just a harmless prank"
"It's not okay! My fur's green! I can't go to classes like this!"
"Hey, maybe it will make you a little more humble. Come on, it's not that bad, every familiar and magic student has slip ups from time to time. I'm sure they'll just think it was a magic mishap"
Poff wailed, throwing a paw over her eyes dramatically "What will Seraph think if he sees me-ow like this?! I can't possibly go outside looking like something that came out of someone's nose"
Her comments only seemed to make Gossamer and Sapphire laugh harder. Larissa kissed her and hugged her close, stifling her own giggles. "Hey now, come on. It's gonna be okay. I love you no matter what you look like. Let's not start any more arguments or prank wars. I'm positive the green colouring will rinse out with baths. I'll get you some fur whitener okay? Just look at this as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and be humble"
Poff sniffled and pouted, cuddling into Larissa's soft boobs. Larissa sighed and looked at Gossamer and Sapphire. "You guys have any more of that colouring left? I'll dye my hair green too..." she said, which made Poff quiet down and stopped her sniffles.
Larissa put Poff on the bed and the cat immediately scampered to burrow under the blankets, becoming a little moving lump in the bed. Larissa giggled and patted the lump "It's going to be all right, dear. We can fix this. I think we've learned our lesson, yes?"

A week later found me lounging in a study room at one of the school's libraries. Mia and Charlotte were here, sitting on the coutch next to me as they discussed their studies. Larissa normally attends these things, and we invited Seraph to join us today; hopefully to be a fun addition to the group.
"I love my Studies." Charlotte said. "But it gives me a headache when I accidentally tangle my threads. This book is supposed to give me tips on that, but I'm halfway through and no luck."
Mia nodded, sitting close to Charlotte. The two of them were always together, and I smiled as Mia leaned over and peered at the pages that Charlotte had been complaining about. "Have you checked the glossary or index?"
Charlotte sighed. "I probably should."

Larissa was also with the study group. It was a regular thing, and they all usually tried to help each other where they could. A new boy had joined the group recently; Seth. He seemed like an all right kind of person. He was always friendly and helpful, if a bit quiet. He seemed studious, always having his nose in a book or his phone.
Larissa had several books spread open before her. One displaying different types of crystals that can be found in the ground and what their natural properties are. The other a list and description of spells using crystallokinesis. She was trying to hand write a rough draft of an essay, and deep in concentration.
Poff, still bright green, was reading a magazine about Familiar spells and power ups, something different to the usual ones she preferred. It seems like she was taking her training seriously. She appeared to be ignoring her green fur and getting on with life. Sort of. She was wearing a kitty sweater and a ridiculous hat that let her ears pop through the top.
Sitting right next to her and pointing at things on the pages with a blue paw was Seraph, and the two were quietly talking together about spells and how to apply them to different scenarios.
Eilene was also there, and she looked up from her sheets of questions that she was scribbling her answers on. She looked up at Charlotte and Mia "Maybe you need a different book. That one looks a bit outdated. Although I know you have to research fashion from all different time periods" she said. "Could try a magazine perhaps"
Larissa looked up from her book. "You think that's tough. I still can't seem to make a full crystal encasement shield" she sighed. "I get one or two facets of it and then it collapses. I can't picture the shape of the crystal in my mind, there's so many sides to it!"
Seth moved closer to Larissa and Garnet. "Maybe if you try drawing the crystal. That should help you get the shape in your mind. Nothing too complicated. Just start with the basics. Here" he flipped the pages of the book and pointed to a simple crystal with only a few sides.
Larissa smiled at him "Thanks" She looked at Garnet "How are your studies going? Seth might be able to help"

"But this is the one my teacher recommended. I have to read it because she said she'll quiz us on it later." Charlotte gave a fake whine. "It's dry and boring to read. Why a lady teaching fashion and textile magic has to assign the driest reading material ever confuses me. I'd gladly take the magazine though." She said as she flipped from the page she had been on; using a perfectly manicured finger to hold her place as she searched the glossary for the desired keywords. Mia pointed one out and the Charlotte nodded, flipping to the page. Mia had her own research that she had set aside for the moment; I wonder if anyone in the group had been paying attention to the fact that most of Mia's books had covers on them; I knew why. Mia was studying Necromancy which is why she didn't talk about her studies much. I'm fairly certain Charlotte knew but not the others.
I sat up when Seth moved closer to Larissa and Elaine. I wrinkled my nose when Larissa asked about my studies, scooting away. "I'm doing well in them. And I'd rather not having a sneezing fit, thank you." It was well known that I did not like the rather strong cologne that Seth wore; it gave me headaches and occasionally heavy sneezing. Seth seemed nice enough, but I had to wonder why he would keep wearing it after it triggers strong, almost allergy like symptoms in someone else?

Eilene listened to Charlotte, her blue hair allowed to flow loose around her shoulders. She was heavily bundled in thick winter clothes and faux fur lined boots. She was used to much warmer climates. "Oh. I see. Guess you haven't got much of a choice then. Some of the stuff I have to read is really old, too, and written in old languages. I keep having to use this translator device so I can read them" she held up the thing, it looked like a magnifying glass but when you held it over the text and looked through it, it made the words look English. Eilene continued. "But even in English it's hard to understand. People back then sure used a lot of long and fancy words. It's like trying to read an archaic manual"
She glanced at Mia's book. "Mia you seem to be doing pretty well with your work. On second year spells already" she said, looking at the book cover on Mia's book.
Mia gave a carefree smile. "What? Oh. Yeah. I'm um, doing really well. I guess I'm just passionate about what we're studying. You gotta admit, magical studies are so much more fun than regular school work" she grinned.
Seth backed up a bit, smiling apologetically as Garnet recoiled "Oh. Sorry. I forgot about that" he chuckled. "It's my favourite cologne, I wear it for sentimental reasons. My father wore the same...it reminds me of him before he died".
The girls gave him sympathetic looks, and Charlotte even looked a bit disapproving of Garnet's reaction.
Seth instead took a seat further away from her, near Larissa, and started to help her with her work. He checked over Eilene's and Charlotte's work too, giving them feedback and helpful tips. He seemed to know a lot and was apparently top of his classes in nearly all classes he was taking. He even checked Mia's work, but he never said anything to her, simply writing notes on her paper and handing it back to her. Mia clearly trusted him enough to let him in on what she was really studying. He attended Necromancy classes with her so it was kind of a shared secret between the two.
The darker magic class seemed not to suit him that much, what with his friendly and quiet personality. But he was doing great in it so Mia guessed he must just be a really studious person. Heck, maybe his parents were really strict or something.
The group kept studying together, making good progress. The library was cosy and the lighting was good. Plus there were warm drinks available and public bathrooms. Students could stay here for many hours, poring over their books and work,
