Tethys has been talking about "daily rituals" from various cultures with the students. What is one of your student's daily rituals? Do they recognize that it's a ritual? If they don't think they have any daily rituals, have them explain why.

Write a 100 word minimum response from the perspective of your student answering Tethys' question

Prompt Response:

Jacie listened to the discussion on daily rituals from all kinds of different cultures. He hadn't really thought of himself as having any daily ritualistic behaviors but now that he thought about it.. He definitely did, well for routine like things... Every morning, he brushed his teeth and hair to start. He'd also secretly kiss his stuffed animal goodbye when no one was watching him. Not to mention, school was something that everyone went to pretty much everyday. So would that be a daily ritual? Curiously, his ear flicked as his mind changed subjects on him and he started thinking of adding something to his routine.

Prompt Response:

At the mention of rituals, Kinley had totally thought of something different. When his teacher explained more, he sorta felt silly for thinking of daily rituals any other way. Of course he had daily rituals, didn't everyone? At least everyone in the room did because school was basically a daily ritual. However, his house was a little different. Mink would always make sure he and his sibling woke up early enough to get ready for school. She helped them brush their teeth and even had breakfast and lunch ready! Kinley smiled fondly as he thought of how much his mom does for him. She even had their school stuff ready for them and always kissed them goodbye. Kinley felt like maybe after everything his mom does for him, maybe he should do something really nice for her! Maybe he could even get his younger sibling to help!

With new races appearing at what appears to be on a somewhat regular basis, the topic of cultural assimilation has been a popular one. Should new races assimilate to match the rest of the world if their beliefs are drastically different? Is it possible to have people exist in harmony even with clashing belief systems? Your student is encouraged to use examples in their response.

Prompt Response:

Lilja was really surprised that other people would be so simple-minded as to make others change heir customs and beliefs for someone else. She already knew exactly what she was going to write, I personally believe it is wrong to make anyone change what they believe in or their customs to match some one elses. It doesn't matter if they are different. I would understand maybe putting certain restriction on some of the more violent or morally wrong stuff but to make a race just assimilate to preset customs and beliefs is just plain wrong. We have all been living in harmony and peace for a while so I know we can do it even with we are so different. Look at my people, the grimms. I am from the colony that stayed with the nixies and we didn't make you change anything... Sure our leader lost it for a moment there but now we are all living in peace. If we love and respect each other, we can make this place amazing together.

Lilja felt a little heated from the whole topic, trying not to think of how ridiculous others can be.

Prompt Response:

Crispin tilted his head as he listened to the class chatter, and the professor explains the topic of today's discussion. Why would anyone expect someone to change just because they were in a different location? His eyes widened at the idea of forcing someone to be different simply because what they believed in was not familiar. Scowling the Grimm shook his head as he grabbed up his pencil.

If we make everyone follow the same beliefs and ideas, how would that solve anything? Individual races are unique because of what they believe, and their time-honored traditions and customs. Denying someone the right to be, and do what they believe in is wrong.

Trusting we can all abide at least by the common ground rules to prevent un-needed violence permitting of course... but no one should have to assimilate simply "just because." If the Grimm's and Nixie's can find harmony and peace...so can other races. Common ground is one thing, but asking someone to shed their identity, I believe personally is pretentious and rude.
Setting his pencil down, Crispin felt his brows furrow in consideration. How was it right, nor fair to expect something like that? No one race was alike...it was what made the world so fascinating and exciting after-all!

What was all this now about daily rituals? Nova looked considerate as she quietly reached up to touch the star-shaped hair clip she wore nearly every single day. If she thought about it, she realized she did have a routine. Jaime..her new guardian would get she and her sibling Zoren up each day. Once she got up and got dressed, she would brush her teeth and hair. Jaime would help do both hers and Zoren's hair.. before having breakfast. Jaime would always give both of them a hug, before handing off their lunch bags. Nova also tried to read at least twice a day, that was her favorite along with looking up at the stars at night. The litch/giest looked thoughtful as she tapped a clawed digit against her desk.

Prompt Response:

Kahlua smiled thoughtfully as she was asked about her daily rituals. That was an easy question! She had many brothers and sisters, her family was a big pack. Even if she wasn't a Grimm she felt apart of her fathers and mothers home. She like several other of her siblings had been welcomed into Drisdan, Callahan and Lir's home with open arms.

Waking on time meant the difference sometimes of getting ready on time!

The thought made her giggle. She would often time share the sink with several of her siblings. Breakfast for her was always her favorite in the morning, she liked to help make something for everyone. Kahlua always liked to give her stuffed bear a snuggle before she went to school! Making time for homework wasn't always her best suit...she was usually too busy daydreaming or doodling.

Prompt Response: Elliah stood up, twirling her pencil in one hand and leaning against one hip when it was her turn to answer. "Of course it's possible to have people exist in harmony even if they have clashing belief systems. After all, look at what we had before all these "new" races started to come out. Demons, chimera, geists, imps, fallen, litch, they were already all working together to make the world better after the 50 year war was over. A demon started this school but it would never have gotten anywhere if individuals from each of the races hadn't decided to send their children here in addition to the orphans that were awakened from the cache," Elliah gestured to the school in general and the class in particular. "I mean, yeah, some of these new races have different beliefs, but that doesn't mean that they should change them just because all the rest of us are more or less on the same page. As long as each side learns and respects the other, there really shouldn't be any problems. At least, that's what I think." As if her thoughts on the matter should be the end of it, Elliah dropped back into her seat, just then noticing that her pencil wasn't in her hand. Slightly confused, she looked around, catching sight of it under someone else's desk with them giving her a rude look. Oops.

A daily ritual huh? What did she do on the daily?

Jane tapped her chin. Well, she did usually meet Lilly when she could. But that wasn't every day. Typically it wasn't even planned. Lilly was just there!

She did go scouting for various rocks outside after class. That was every day. And she always walked the same path. It was important for her collection. How else were those rocks going to get any friends? She didn't see anyone else on their hands and knees, getting their clothes dirty to save her friends from getting trampled on. They deserved love too. Jane nodded. It was an extremely important daily ritual.

Meadow listened to her teacher, trying to come up with something she did that she could consider a ritual. Brushing her hair and teeth seemed too obvious.. too common. Sighing some, she tapped her claw onto her chin. She guessed one thing that she could consider a daily ritual would be feeding Isley, her familiar. Oh! And walking and playing with her. Those were definitely things that she did everyday around the same time... so that was a daily ritual, right? A small smile crossed her face as she considered what her best friend's daily rituals would be... besides the brushing of the teeth and hair. Which reminded her of another daily ritual that she did... Everyday before school, her mama would help her and her siblings moisturize their fins so that they would set till about lunch time.

Saffron certainly wasn't paying attention in class when her teacher was talking about daily rituals. When they were asked about some of theirs, she bit her lip. Great, maybe she shouldn't have been thinking about that dead bird she saw earlier and actually paid attention. What even was a ritual...? A daily one at that. She listened to the other students in the class mention brushing their teeth and hair... then others like bathing and moisturizing their scales or skin. So was daily rituals things that you do everyday? She ate everyday, did that count? The hybrid was confused, maybe asking her dad would help her understand... but what if he didn't know?

What was a daily ritual? Why, waking up Andren each time for class and making sure he was healthy. The fey was her responsibility after all. It was only right. Could he get up by himself? Oh sure, probably. But her little buzzin' bee wasn't...well, all that well. She had to make sure he was healthy. Didn't want him passin' out in class after all or gettin' sicker. It was her duty. His parents said so. And her Ma and Pa. She didn't know how to live without that small habit. As far back as she could remember---she had woken up Andren. How else was she supposed to start the day?

He kind of got the idea, sort of? It was something people did every day. He just did not get why, other than 'because if I don't do this, I'll be dirty/hungry/tired' or something. Finally, with a very unsure expression on his small face, he began to write. "For me, the daily rituals I use tend to be pretty normal things, I think? I get up in the morning, and go take a shower every day. I make sure to brush my teeth ALL the way, so I don't have bad breath. I have breakfast, I do my chore for the day... When it's lunchtime, I eat. Same with Dinner. And then at Eight PM every day, I go to bed. I do not think I have any other things I do that could be considered a daily ritual. I do not pray, I do not do any good luck things... Just the normal daily activities!"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Shiva looked put upon, in the extreme. On a good day, he did not like this class. As far as he was concerned, this was NOT a good day. He had to write nonsense about rituals. He grumbled and glowered, but got out his pencil and got to work. "In my home, I live with my Papa, my uncle, my stepbrother, and my five siblings. It can be very chaotic, on a day to day basis, because everyone needs to get things done. Other than my stepbrother, I am the oldest, and when Papa and Uncle Indi are very busy, I often have to help get my younger siblings ready and going to school, or something. I do not feel like I have any daily rituals I can claim, because every day is so different. The only thing I can think of is getting up when my alarm goes off, and making sure I am in bed by my bedtime, and those aren't really rituals, just things that need to be done."

Prompt Response: "I don't think it would be a bad thing for the new races to learn about our beliefs. After all, the rest of the world is based off of them and it will help to reduce their problems with adjusting to living outside their normal territory. But that doesn't meant that they should change everything about their culture to match ours! That would just be ridiculous to ask of them. We should also be learning about their cultures and beliefs so that when they do something that isn't quite what we expect, it's not as much of a shock. Like, um, the dryads doing less in the winter. If we didn't know that that was a cultural thing for them, someone might suspect that they were sick or something. It's important to learn about one another so that we can all understand and get along better."

Maeva resisted the urge to nibble on the eraser of her pencil as she double checked what she'd written. Considering the time was almost up for this assignment, she set her pencil down and pushed the paper aside. Aside from a few spelling errors she'd corrected, she felt good about her answer. Why anyone would answer differently was a mystery to her.

Quentin came to class prepared to learn. He had all his supplies and had arrived with time to pick where he would prefer to sit. Once the bell rang, he listened to his teacher, a curious expression on his face. The topic about different races made him think of his own home. Both his mothers were of mixed race, and both younger children were bakeneko's, while he himself was a baphomet.

"Learning different beliefs means you can broaden your own understanding for those around you. I do not believe it is a bad thing to learn about either theirs, or our beliefs. I don't think that should erase what makes them unique, but having common ground in a new environment and establishing common ground is also important."
