Half-Youma General Cinnabar

Fighting her way up out of the castle from the doors to Metallia's chamber had been a long and arduous struggle. There were so many targets and none she wanted to leave behind her to risk the safety of the doors on.

By the time Cinnabar emerged from the Citadel, her pocket had aquired a handful of new starseeds and she was vibrating with the rush of the youma she had eaten. Red eyes wide and feral, she scanned the battle field the courtyard had become. Senshi and Knights faced off against Corrupt and Agents, youma milling and rushing about as they sought targets. It made her heart race with excitement, a low, feline growl rolling from her throat.

It was hard to tell if she knew anyone in the mass of humanity and sub-humanity... everyone darting about and unleashing their magic or weapons. No targets called out to her... but there, the General Queen's aura blazed, surrounded by the sickly sweet wash of Order. Too many, even for her. The loss of Apatite was a staggering blow they hadn't even properly felt the pain of, they could not afford to lose another.

Gathering herself, Cinnabar tore herself out of reality and popped back in across the battle field, in time for a ghastly rain to begin to fall around her and those who surrounded Laurelite. At first, she didn't realize what it was... and then the drops that hit her face, the ends of her pointed ears, the front of her chest... they all began to burn. The general roared as she hunched over, shielding her face with her arms. At least her coat protected most of her... but she smelled it as the leather began to ******** b***h." She snarled, searching the moving bodies for the General Queen and her attackers.

Scholomance, Squire of Saturn - lending an assist

The sheer volume of magic sent Laurelite's way was startling - not only had she persevered through Ganymede's crystal attack, but a slew of other spells cast by senshi of varying ranks. Was this the power of the Negaverse, then? Had they outmatched everyone by the pinnacle of their ranks? Perhaps this war was already lost to them, then, and all they managed was a delay of the inevitable. Steeling himself, Scholomance chased the thoughts away. He needed focus more than defeatist thinking, especially when Laurelite drew so close to their best distraction and ticket out of there.

Harmonia was left to the ground, which demanded hardly more than a glance from him. Casualty of war as she was, she served as a distraction in Laurelite's favor. Even as her own senshi defied her, she persisted and those around her focused on the fate of the super senshi. Scholomance remained on the slight hilllside, however, and watched with a discerning eye while Laurelite counterattacked all her foes. Babylon he recognized, even as Laurelite slashed at him, and the chibi senshi received a much kinder response. Scholomance found his mind wandering to how he would've used the full blade of the scythe if he was her, but banished the thought. He had one target to assist, and anything else amounted to wasted energy in this case. No one else could stand up to the General-Queen with the same rate of success.

Acid rained from the sky then, and initially Scholomance was only vaguely aware of it. Soon the splotches of rain struck his coat, and hair, and melted away some of the cloth defending him from its vitriolic grasp. Soon it touched skin and he hissed through his teeth. His concentration divided then, between Laurelite's direction and his own blistering pain as the acid rain compounded the issues he held with his leg. "<********>," he cursed from his location, and immediately regretted it as if it somehow signified to the Negaverse his location. No one accosted him, however.

Perhaps there was a little providence in this.

Then he caught it - Laurelite swung her scythe nearer and nearer toward the senshi with wings, and finally he recognized the drawing back of the blade before the final descent - so he drew up all concentration into himself and thrust the bone cane to the ground in the knell of his magic.

For Ganymede and himself, the world unbound into a broken series of pathways that suspended themselves seamlessly in the sky. Pale fog rolled in while cyan light tainted the ambience of the place, and all those around Ganymede appeared as little more than dancing sparks of energy - including Laurelite herself. She would know no pain, even from Cyllene's poisonous onslaught, and no victory of the scythe. There was, however, no sense of serenity left in such a desolate landscape - those less versed in magical effects, as he learned from Mont Blonc, considered it death that had finally caught hold.

Go, Scholomance wanted to say, but his mouth remained frozen beneath pressure and melting skin. His magic would not last more than a few seconds.

Sunshine Alouette
Squire - Parva Morta
Duration: 30 second maximum magic pool
Distance: Victims can be tagged up to 20 feet from Scholomance himself
Number affected: Up to 3 'tagged' based on line of sight
Extra: Magic 'tethers' at 20 feet from Scholomance barring sight interruption
Description: Scholomance summons a death knell that will immediately affect 'tagged' characters (anyone focused on by Scholomance within line of sight). Any targeted character will have their corporeal form turned into a ghastly spirit-form, and will find that any attack or attempt made toward corporeal bodies will only pass through their form. In trade, corporeal characters will be unable to strike or harm those who are rendered as spirits. Spirits will see the world around them as an inverted, crumbling version of their current location. Corporeal characters will look to them as blots of energy rather than people. Spirits can still attack each other, and both corporeal and incorporeal characters can attack Scholomance, as he is the link between the illusory otherworld and the real world. Breaking his concentration will end the attack prematurely.

During channeling, Scholomance's magic actively damages him as tradeoff. Effects start at full body ache and exhaustion and can lead up to immediate collapse afterward, depending on circumstances. He is also completely immobile while casting and cannot attack any targets.

Mauvian Sailor Ash

Ash’s ears laid back as Aegir spoke, her hands curled against her chest and her tail between her knees. Mont Blonc echoed her thoughts exactly, but if Aegir was determined, if he thought this was the best path to take… then there wasn’t anything she could say against him. He was a senshi and he led this group… he had to make the decisions and she had to trust him.

“You’ll be careful?” She said, her voice tight with anxiety. “I can’t help you if I go through the portal.”

She stuck close to her senshi as they fought their way through youma and dodged other officers. At one point, something small and nasty flew at them and she squealed as she swung wildly at it. Mont Blonc came to her rescue and took it out, dust falling in a cloud. There was a small cleared space around them for a stretch and in that time, Aegir turned to them, telling them to go. Ash’s eyes were big as he came to kiss her cheek and she made a small chirping noise, touching his arm before he went to the squire.

She didn’t like leaving him here… she didn’t like leaving anyone behind, but there was a limit to what she could feasibly do here. She could protect Mont Blonc though… that much she could do. Reaching out, Ash gripped the sleeve of Mont Blonc’s coat in nervous fingers, moving close to his side.

“Please be careful, Aegir.”

Harmonia, Super senshi of harmony

Harmonia was aware of arms wrapping around her and being listed from the cold ground. Her back, sore and bruised from the harsh impact, protested slightly at the movement. The little twinge of pain was barely noticed though with the steady stream of pain in her chest.

There was a split moment of complete silence before the senshi could hear the roar of the war again. Voices close by, and the gentle rocking add she was held prompted Harmonia to open her eyes again.

She found herself being protected by a corrupt senshi and with a slight tilt of her head, the feathers of familiar wings were just barely seen. "Princess..." She gaped again and flinched away with another wave of chaos closing through her.

Super Sailor Oberon

The fact that he was still alive after facing off against the General Queen surprised him, but the results were what he wanted. She was distracted long enough for Babylon to attack, although the fact that Laurelite was quick to attack back made his stomach drop.

For him, he managed to get away with what probably would be a nasty bruise from the pole end of her scythe. Did she have a soft spot for children? Or perhaps it was just easier for her to turn the pole on him, rather than the blade.

Oberon threw his arms over his head when the rain of feathers and then acid came down. The corrupted senshi (Cyllene) who had turned against the General Queen managed to grab Harmonia, and Oberon felt himself feeling just the slightest bit relieved. But it wasn’t going to last long.

“You okay?” he called to Babylon, quickly dodging out of the way of some beads as he tried to reach the Mercury Knight, offering him a hand if he needed it. “Thanks,” he said quickly, and a bit sheepishly, before turning to see what had become of Harmonia.

It looked as though she’d been taken to Ganymede while Laurelite was distracted. “Come on,” he said to the knight, looking around to make sure Perdita and the others were heading towards the portal.

Princess Ganymede, forcing out every last drop of energy she has left

Ganymede's life flashed before her eyes in a single moment as Laurelite's scythe swung toward her chest. She was too drained of energy to dodge this time. It was going to strike her. Either it would lodge its way into her chest and kill her, or she'd be severely injured in the attempt of moving one way or the other.

She had no time to consider either choice. The blade came at her quickly. It happened in mere seconds.

But it never made contact.

The world shifted in a way she found difficult to explain. She looked around herself but could no longer see the figures that surrounded her only moments ago. She thought they might still be there. She could see... something... where they should have been. Laurelite was in front of her. Valhalla and Gevaudan were somewhere nearby. Cyllene was close too, and in very grave danger.

And Harmonia. Harmonia needed help.

A wave of thoughts crashed through Ganymede's mind in the seconds she stood there. She'd not felt Laurelite's blade reach her, but that did not mean it hadn't happened. Was she dead? Had her death been instantaneous? She'd experienced nothing. Just fear and desperation.

Yet she could still feel their auras. Laurelite's was particularly strong. Another fluctuated rapidly between Order and Chaos.

Though her movements came hesitantly, Ganymede backed away from where Laurelite had only just been. She stumbled over something she could not identify. Her breathing came rapidly and she attempted to determine what was going on.

Magic. It must be magic.

Ganymede felt neither scythe nor acid rain. When the spell that came over her faded and the world around her returned to normal, she was a few yards away from Laurelite and the rain was beginning to taper off. A few drops caught the ruffles of her dress and burned their way through. A few more dripped onto her shoulders and arms. Another few splattered against her chest, but it was nothing compared to what others experienced.

She looked around again to get her bearings, searching for Valhalla, Gevaudan, Oberon, and Babylon. She found them easily. She saw another knight—a Squire in purple, black, and gray with what looked like a large bone (Scholomance). Benitoite seemed to have arrived as well.

But her attention was caught by Cyllene. The Corrupt Senshi knelt upon the ground protecting Harmonia. For just a moment, all Ganymede could do was stand there and gape. Cyllene was attacking Laurelite. Cyllene was betraying the Negaverse. Cyllene was protecting another poor Senshi well on her way to corruption.

Ganymede fell to her knees in an instant.

“Cyllene,” she said. “Cyllene, it's okay. I can do this.”

She wanted to do it for both of them, Harmonia and Cyllene. She knew she could not. Camelot had demonstrated that during Gevaudan's and Hawara's purifications. Two at once was impossible. As things were now, she would barely have the energy for one.

She could not depend on Castor for assistance.

“You have to go,” she told Cyllene. “You can't stay here. They'll kill you for what you've done. You have to run. Protect yourself. I'll make things right.”

Ganymede turned her eyes to Harmonia.

“Shhh,” she said. “It's alright. You're going to be alright. I know it hurts. Just breathe. It won't be long, I promise.”

She'd not banished her crystal. Her hands trembled somewhat as she began concentrating her energy, pulling it out of herself and feeding it to Harmonia through her crystal. After using so much of her magic, it was an arduous process. More difficult than saving Valhalla. More difficult that purifying Hawara. Ganymede could feel the energy draining from her rapidly.

She was afraid that she would not be able to complete the task, but Ganymede persisted. Even if it took all that remained of her strength, she could not leave Harmonia in the grip of Chaos. She focused on the light. She pushed it out of herself, fighting the Chaos that threatened to consume Harmonia the same way it consumed Cyllene, as it once consumed Gevaudan.

Ganymede became weaker and weaker the harder she tried to combat the Chaos. Her entire body shook with the effort.

They were all three of them vulnerable. She could only trust in the others to keep Laurelite and Benitoite at bay.

“It's okay,” she said, over and over. “Everything's going to be okay.”

Grus- Battered and Bleeding. Will need assistance if available.

At least a couple of the feathers flew true, passing through the General Queen with a hiss. Grus felt her power drop immediately, and fell to her knees, gasping. When the spots cleared from her eyes, she saw that she wasn't the only one that had attacked Laurelite. Others were joining, including Athene, who had appeared nearby. The General Queen didn't seem to react to anything at first, refusing to let Harmonia go. Grus stumbled to her feet, ready to run, or fight, or something. Anything to get out of here.

Then all at once, Laurelite moved.

The next part came in slow motion. Grus watched her turn, watched her lock eyes with her own blue ones. The scythe left her hand, and hurtled towards she and Athene. There was no time to dodge. All she could do was twist sideways, and throw her arms up in a defensive position.

Grus didn't feel the blade cut through her. That would have been the most traumatizing thing she'd ever experienced. Her shut eyes didn't see it cut cleanly through her fuku and side. But boy, did she feel it soon after.

She shouted, hands going to her side on instinct. she felt the warm blood drip past her fingers, and tears streamed down her face. It hurt so damn bad! With every heartbeat, her arm throbbed, her side throbbed, and she bled more. Grus pressed harder, on her rib cage, letting out a pained sob. Her nerves were on fire, it seemed like every fiber of her being was screaming in agony. She'd only been beaten this badly once before, and someone had saved her.

She wasn't sure someone would this time.

Valhalla of Jupiter - With Gevaudan, Ganymede, Cyllene, Harmonia, etc.

Valhalla’s eyes widened in horror when Cyllene actually moved to attack Laurelite. What he’d expected her to do, he wasn’t sure, but it definitely wasn’t something so bold as to outright attack the General Queen!

“Cyllene!” he cried in distress, but already everything was happening too quickly again. He could see Laurelite attacking, hurling her scythe towards Athene and Grus. It took him perhaps a bit too long to realize that the scythe was thrown in his and Gevaudan’s direction as well.

He made a split second decision and grabbed Gev to try and push him out of the way. Gev was already too injured as it was to run the risk of being clobbered by a scythe. Valhalla stumbled and fell, having tripped over the dead body of a young boy. Whether they were ally or enemy; it didn’t matter. The dead boy had already changed back into a normal civilian, wearing a sports uniform. For a fleeting moment, he thought it was Peter, but the super senshi seemed to have escaped from his encounter with Laurelite with minimal injuries, surprisingly. Babylon was hopefully okay, too.

Tears threatened to fill Valhalla’s eyes at the sight of the carnage as he tried to scramble back to his knees, a hand pressed against the wound on his arm he’d received from Apatite. It was bleeding again.

And then Laurelite went after both Cyllene and Ganymede, and Valhalla felt his heart stop for what had to be the dozenth time that night.

Ganymede!” he practically screamed, his face white as he watched helplessly and too far away to do anything, as Laurelite slashed at Ganymede. It was as though his own life flashed before his eyes, unable to do anything to stop the light from going out of his life…

His breath caught in his throat as another squire (Scholomance) stepped in. He did something. Something with the cane he had. Magic? Had he saved Ganymede from being slaughtered? Whatever he did, Valhalla was grateful and would not forget the act.

Unwilling to leave Gevaudan, Valhalla tried to take hold of him and hoist him up onto his good shoulder. Should Gev go willingly, it would be easier for him to reach Ganymede as quickly as possible. He’d already almost lost Alexandria to his starseed being taken. He wasn’t about to leave another friend.

“Ganymede,” he breathed, fighting the tears in his eyes as he approached her with Cyllene and Harmonia. He hadn’t been deaf to Benitoite’s threat, and he desperately hoped that the General would show them the mercy Valhalla knew he was capable of giving, and allow them to help Harmonia before it was too late.

Ganymede's wielding of her crystal was mesmerizing. He hated knowing that she must be using her own life energy to pull the chaos back out of Harmonia. The same way she’d done for him when Laurelite tried to corrupt him.

He only had flashes of memories of that night, but he remembered the fear of seeing his own clothing turn black, the metal tarnish. Ganymede saved him, just as she would do everything she could to save Harmonia.

Carefully, Valhalla set Gev back down as he knelt by Ganymede, his hand reaching out to gently cup hers, his other arm finding its way around her back, just below her wings. He had no magic, no energy of his own to give, but he wanted to offer whatever support he could. Harmonia was not alone, Cyllene was not alone, Gev was not alone, none of these senshi or knights, or even corrupted senshi or negaverse officers were alone, despite what they might think.

Part of him wondered when he started feeling hope in times of such horrible sadness and suffering and hate, but from the little glimmers of kindness, as cliche he knew it sounded, were more important than any magic they could have. Cyllene risking her life, the Saturn knight (Scholomance) risking his to protect Ganymede. Babylon, Athene, and so many others.

“Come back. There are people here who need you,” he said softly to Harmonia, knowing she might not be able to hear him. He looked up to see if he could spot Babylon, having seen the Mercury knight’s fondness for the younger girl. “We’re here for you. All of us.”

Benitoite, in the middle of al lthe s**t going down.

Laughter, dark and rich, poured from him as he saw his spear hit it's target. The poor little traitor. Stepping toward her he tilted his head a bit, blood streaked ashen hair fell into his face. "What a naughty little senshi you've been...someone should punish you." His words were dark, promising pain and death. For one as small, petite, as he was it was a wonder how he managed to be as intimidating and deadly as he was. The darkness filled him and rushed through his blood, pumped about by his hear, as it filled him. He could be a kind person, friendly to his fellow officers, he had even felt for the knights and senshi - some of them right here. But no more...they'd get a demonstration tonight of what he was truly capable of.

He'd have done more than summon his weapon if not for that traitors attack. The rain at first did nothing to him, he didn't feel it due to his uniform. The only bits he felt was what landed on his scalp. He did notice what was happening to his uniform and soon he felt it - felt the burn. It was first the parts of skin he had uncovered, due to his mad dash to remove clothing because of Ganymede's burning attack. Now his skin was burning for another reason.

Gritting his teeth, growling, he held onto his weapon tightly and as soon as the attack passed he was heading for her. Banishing his weapon for this he teleported himself behind Cyllene and went to grab her by that oh so long head of hair she had. Wrapping his hand into the hair he yanked, uncaring of how close the princess was to this. There was little she could do - she was busy. She was trying to help save the poor soul laying on the ground.

"You've been naughty Cyllene..." He purred out, dark words carrying a promise of nothing she wanted to be apart of. His eyes flashed with anger as he yanked on her hair, intending to pull her back toward him. For a moment his eyes moved toward Ganymede and than her other, and perhaps better, half Valhalla. He had felt for him, would have remained allied with him in some manner. Right now however...there was nothing of the previous kindness the other had seen.

Corrupt Azurite - With Cyllene, trying not to punch Beni's face in.

There was a flash of black and white, and then there were suddenly a second pair of hands in Cyllene's proximity. However, these ones were not fisted in her hair like the General's were. These were fisted in the collar of his coat, hosting him up the few inches so that he was eye level with a very cross senshi. "If you so much as continue to pull on her hair, I will gouge out make your life a living hell, assuming Ganymede over there doesn't beat me to the ******** punch. Believe me, that is a fight you don't want to see happen because god forbid we decided to team against you. Do you understand me General?" Azurite hissed, eyes narrowing. Power difference be damned. "I would advise you to let go. Please." The last word was all snark, there was no sincerity in it. "I'm only going to ask once."

Then her gaze dropped to the corrupt in question. "I can't leave you alone for a minute can I?" Geeze, this would be a fun explanation when she got home... Her glance flickered around them, and for a long moment it stayed on both Valhalla and Ganymede. Longer, on Ganymede then it had on Valhalla.

Azurite was sure as hell that Gany hadn't had all those ruffles the last time they crossed paths...

Benitoite, not at all pleased.

Another one...how quaint he thought. A smirk played across his features as he was hoisted off his feet so they dangled off the ground. if he was bothered by he didn't show it. He didn't let a single emotion slip free. Even the anger he'd felt with Cyllene faded away into a mask of calmness as he stared at Azurite. "I would suggest you set me down. If not I can promise you that you will not be pleased with the punishment I'll be dealing you. You'd also better grow eyes in the back of your head." He would not forgive such behavior in front of senshi and knights! Such a lack of order and unity...traitors and those who had no respect for those of higher rank and in front of the enemy! They were showing weaknesses - chinks in the armor.

His voice was low as he spoke but as he placed a hand over top the one holding him, applying all the force he could, he stared the corrupted in the eyes. "I will not hesitate to break you." He would break her hand and her arm if need be. He would put her in line here and now if need be. This was unacceptable to the General and as kind and friendly as he could be he could be equally cold and unforgiving. It was rare to see it but it was rare for him to be in a big fight like this where such was necessary.

He was giving her the chance to set him down before he forced the issue more than he currently was. If she didn't take it...she would be in trouble - more so than now. "You would protect a traitor. She is no better than our enemy - she attacked our General Queen." He spoke calmly, coldly. "And you would threaten to team up with the enemy against me...you are no better than her - a traitor." He stated never blinking as he said these words, passed his judgement upon her. She would work with a senshi, a princess, against him - a General! She would protect a traitor who attacked their remaining General Queen.

Babylon Knight of Mercury

Laurelite's scythe caught Babylon by surprise, cutting through the front of his coat with a quiet zip of ripping cloth. It hurt less than he would have expected it to - like a paper-cut, only on a much larger scale. The knight stumbled backwards, lantern falling from his hands in surprise; he'd thought he might at least get a hit in.

There was an ugly red stain blooming across his chest, catching the ragged edges of his coat. At least the general-queen hadn't seen fit to finish the job. He looked around frantically, trying to see where Harmonia had wound up in the struggle.... and spotted her, finally, exactly where she needed to be: with Ganymede.

Babylon flicked his wrist, vanishing his lantern, and pressed his right arm over his chest, trying to stop the bleeding. He tucked his head down, hoping that, combined with his height, might make him inconspicuous enough to be overlooked in the heat of battle, and staggered towards the princess.

"You can help her, right?" he asked, gaze falling to Harmonia, to the magic Ganymede was working. He was hard pressed to say when he'd seen someone in more dire straits, if he ever had.

He bit his tongue - it was probably less than smart to distract Ganymede at a time like this.

Eternal Athene -- wounded and by Eternal Grus and suffering from Eternal Cyllene's magic

Athene hadn't been sure that his magic would hold the General Queen, but somehow it had - somehow it had held for a little while.

And despite the tiredness that had come following in on the heels of his casting, the dark-haired eternal had rather thought it all worth it.

And there was Grus by him, the red and white garbed senshi of feathers who was his one time team mate also doing her best to like him do what she could to help the senshi.

A senshi who needed more help than either of them could give her, grey staining parts of a fuku that he suspected had once been white as she fought her own private battle against whatever the General Queen had done to her.

But Ganymede was also on the battlefield and a part of him couldn't help but hope - because Ganymede was a Royal and therefore perhaps the Princess could help where he couldn't...

Perhaps he should have been thinking to his own safety - especially with the glare that the General Queen had levelled in his direction when she had tried to escape from the beads surrounding her - because whilst his magic could hold people and things within their circle, it had never, ever been able to stop objects from leaving.

And the General Queen had cast her scythe in his and Grus' direction, the weapon travelling at a speed that was unexpected given its size.

It wasn't as if he hadn't tried to move out of the way because he had - he'd tried his hardest - however Athene was too tired from the second cast of magic, his movements slower than normal and the dark-haired eternal knew that he just wouldn't be in time.

Perhaps the only small mercy was that it was not a full on hit, but the 'glancing' blow was enough to hurt. To burn as he grit his teeth to try and hold back a scream as he heard Grus' scream echo in his ears.

And then the rain came, fell drop by drop, but it was one that that dissolved cloth, the light fabric of his senshi outfit no protection at all against its corrosiveness.

And then the drops fell against his wound and Athene gave up on trying to hold back his screams as his world condensed into a cold blaze of pain.

Mauvian Liryn -- back in cat form and trying to get to Athene and Grus and also being affected by Cyllene's magic

The kitty beam hadn't done much in the scheme of things, but Liryn liked to think that it in conjunction with all the other attacks had helped to get the senshi away from the General Queen.

He was tired now though, the tiredness bone deep, the cat-human form gone as it was so much easier to go back to being the cat.

It was perhaps the glint of light on metal that caught his attention or perhaps him turning the wrong way at the right time but he saw the General Queen fling her scythe and her target was.. Was...

"Athene!" And his scream was a desperate one, part word and part feline distress.

"Athene!" And the dark-haired eternal was too far, over by a senshi clad in red and white.

And he was too tired, his body, his paws feeling so tired as he dragged himself step by weary step in the direction of the two senshi.

The scythe hit them before he could reach them and the red and white clad senshi screamed.

Athene didn't scream, although the dark-haired eternal looked wan, but it made him hope that perhaps it hadn't hit Athene quite so hard...

And then the rain hit and Athene did scream then, the scream intermixing with those of the senshi by him as the rain continued to fall.

It was a rain that hurt as it dissolved clothes and burnt skin. And a rain that singed fur.

Liryn continued to try and drag himself closer to the two senshi paw length by paw length - tried to drag himself across a distance that felt like a chasm.

Dallol, Squire of Uranus

She shouldn't have looked back. With the Negaverse still reeling from the aftereffects of Ganymede's crystal power, this was probably their best shot ever at reaching the portal. But it was too late. For Dallol couldn't find it in herself to look away and turn a blind eye to the pained screams of those who were cut by Laurelite's scythe or caught in the acid rain that Cyllene had called forth.

"What about the others?"

They should go. There were those other senshis and knights who opted to stay with Caedus instead of going through the portal. They could return and help them.

"Corinth. Stop."

But what if they were too late? What was ordinarily supposed to be a straightforward decision on her part, was now complicated by the fact that there were people whom she knew back there. She tugged at Corinth's hand, her entire body quivering as she tried to get him to stop and hear her out.

"They're hurt. They're not going to make it if no one helps them..."

Sailor Subamara, Senshi of Coffee - (attempting to assist Sailor Grus!)

Her magic cast, Subamara stepped back to allow the group space and make sure she’d got them all in her radius. She smiled at Ananke’s words, thinking how un-useful her power usually was. It really was true, nobody liked their own magic! Kind of like hair - everyone with beautiful straight hair loved her curls, but they didn’t know what it was like to run a comb through them!

“Don’t worry, we won’t lose you!” she assured Ananke. “Who were you with before? Wait, you can make portals?” That sounded pretty cool to her.

She looked around at the rest of Athene’s group, marking their faces so she’d recognise them later. Wait, was that guy a kitty? She waved back, friendly but hesitant, until she saw his eyes - he had unmistakable eyes. “Liryn?”

But she didn’t have time to ponder further, because both Liryn and Athene had taken off, not towards the portal as per their just-discussed plan, but straight for the General-Queen. It only took a glance to see why. It was a truly frightening sight, the woman with her hand in that poor girl’s chest. Subamara had assumed corruption was a sneaking, creeping thing, a spider-crawl of evil. This was sudden and cruel as a sword, but lasted longer.

She couldn’t help with that, but others were. Athene’s beads flew towards the monstrous Laurelite, and so did a rush of what looked like feathers. Subamara recognised this attack, the swirling projectiles, the deep holes they cut into everything, even stone, though as a senshi, she’d never seen it used. She’d only been a clueless civilian when Athene and the senshi in red and white had come to her rescue when she was menaced by a youma. The night she’d met Athene, and he’d insisted on seeing her home. She hadn’t seen the other senshi since, hadn’t even thanked her. In fact, she’d kind of run away.

As she watched the pair of Eternals, something caught her eye, and she lifted her hands to her mouth, muffling her “Oh no!” Scythe was not a valid thrown weapon!

She shot a wide-eyed glance back at Ananke, wordless apology for leaving after all, then ran forward after Athene and Liryn. Her magic made her aware, made her agile. It didn’t make her fast enough to beat a speeding scythe, or dodge acid rain. At first glance, Grus looked the worst hit, far more red than white spreading across her uniform. Subamara made the split-second decision to divert, only to hear Athene’s scream behind her, Liryn’s pitiful wail.

She bit her lip and dropped beside Grus, praying someone else was helping her friends. But Grus was sliced up, and blood loss was bad news. The senshi of coffee tugged at her butt-bow until the pale beige ribbon came loose in her hands, taking her little apron with it. She wadded up the apron section into a pad. If Grus allowed, she intended to press the pad against the wound to stop the bleeding, and use the ribbon to hold it in place.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, hold on, I’m getting you out of here,” she babbled, fearing that her makeshift bandage would make the pain worse for the other girl. “Just hang on.”
