The water could either make you bigger or smaller, it seemed, and it was with curiosity that Mimsy took another sip of water from the pool. She fumbled with the scissors when she began to shrink again, and swallowed a startled gasp that came back as a hiccup. The scarf she had been wearing was now large enough to wrap around her several times, so she looped it into a makeshift dress, hoping to avoid tripping on it. Her small bare feet made nearly no sound as she walked towards him, head tilted again, listening to try and understand what he was saying. She was very good at listening. She learned lots of facts all the time, and it made her feel bad and hurt when he sounded so sure that she wouldn't understand. "That makes no sense, Mister Morris," she pointed out, frowning again. "If you love someone special, you aren't s'posed to stay away from them. That is actually the opposite! Now you know." She crawled towards him, scissors still in hand, and reached out to touch his cheek. Nothing was frightening about him when he was this sleepy. The difference in size between them didn't matter when he wouldn't wake up. "You know how I know? 'Cause if that was true, my mother would love me, and I know...um...I know she does not. But that is all right, 'cause I know how to fix not having love in my heart. I know how to fix what she said." The scissors had been temporarily set aside for her to put both little hands on his face, and her small, pale fingers examined everything they touched with a level of care that could not extend to purely visual observations. "I know how to fix it, 'cause I do trust you, Mister Morris." She leaned towards him, until her lips were right next to his ear, and slowly pet his hair with a flat palm. "I trust you for saying things like you love me, so next I am gonna start the scientific process of seeing it, and I will do a really good job this time. Not like last time. The only reason daddy got mad last time was because I messed up, but it sounds like you love me a whole lot, so...so there's no way I'm gonna mess up this time." As she began a mental checklist of instructions from one of he science books, she lowered herself to lay down next to him, her face inches away from his. She took a deep breath, held it, and slowly exhaled as she extended a hand towards one of his eyes. "Because you love me," she whispered, as she pulled one of his eyelids open to help him look at her. With that clearly established, she sat up and labored to lift one of his arms to get it out of the way, then began to pull his shirt up with a great deal of effort. Getting it off entirely was probably going to be impossible, she discovered, so she settled for bunching it up as high as it would go. " Wowww," she marveled, pressing a hand against the center of his chest. "You really were right. If my calculations are correct, it seems your heart is...um...well, it is gonna be really big. So there should be lots of love there, just like you said!" That was great news, and she really wasn't sure why he wasn't responding accordingly. All of the preparations were in order, which meant that there was really just one thing left to do. There was no screaming this time, nor crying, and while they were in something akin to a garden, she kind of suspected that his mom wouldn't interrupt them this time. Her pulse raced as she crawled onto his chest, and an eager smile crept across her lips as she aligned the point of the scissors with the most ideal origin point for the incision. Whispers came from all directions, but the hum of excitement in her ears tuned all of them out, prioritizing the man that was here in front of her. The one who loved her. She was thrilled enough to laugh, but that would ruin all of this, and she needed to be careful - so she counted to three, then pressed the scissors into his chest with all of her seven-year-old might. Quote: You drink from the pool of youth. Every single time you take a sip from the pool, your (physical and mental) age decreases by three years as does your maturity. If coupled with the pool of age, it resets your age and then subtracts it by three. If you hit 1 year somehow, you stay at that. Drink: 2/4 Current Effect: Youth + Insanity + Youth + Youth + Insanity + Youth + Youth + Youth (Physical/Mental Age = 7)

Annnd up again? Loosely up? Sort of up.
Barth swayed unsteadily to his feet, and almost- almost teetered right into one of the pools. Over, back, overrrrr, and back again. His body slumped into a question, and he was not all-conscious, but he was moving on a tangled up memory of a plan...
He stumbled further than he might have, had he been conscious, and became a heap next to a deep green pool. While the first pool had tasted like earth, this one tasted...floral? Fresh. Light. Like something that had grown. He savored it sleepily, but besides the taste, there were few noticeable changes.

More, more she pulled in. She kept drinking, unsure of why she did. The voices grew louder, more urgent in their desires.
Home was beginning to be the only thing that mattered.

Barth stumbled to another pool, and drunk very deeply. He recognized the taste. Lavender. Honey. The pool was warm, and heavy in scent as well as flavor, weighing him down and down and down. In some ways, it was very...suited. To him. Clarity. Here, he could find clarity. There was...a nimble? A number.

Ying, who already had a youthful appearance, drank from the pool of youth.
However, Ying was thousands of years old, so shaving a few off did nothing to her appearance. Gotta love that Horsemen charm.

Ying then drank from a pool of age. She felt older, wiser, but still pretty much the same. Ying was still going to be Ying, regardless of how old she got.
Maybe someday she would get rid of her stutter though. One could dream!

[ insanity, fear ]
Lurks wandered from one room to the next in a daze, eyes glassy. He saw the Mother everywhere, and Waits too, and drinking from the pool he found did nothing to make them go away. She swayed in the breeze like a palm tree, the Original crawling along the beach in a way that pleased Lurks inordinately.
"Good," he said, to the air, the vibrations of his voice echoing in trailing arrows through the room, dissolving into numbers that slid along the wall like restless army ants. "Good."

Surprisingly, it gave Barth the clarity he'd hoped for. He lurched to the opposite side, hung raggedly over the bright blue pool, and drank-
The flavor was warped, but familiar, it reminded him of....HoMe? Too much. Too much of that, no more of- and the dream buzzed over into Riley, still as a statue, and he ran a claw along the length of her dress, frozen in stone, until she was 100 feet long, still as a sepulcher, no more, not here.
He struggled to find a door.

Van hesitated. He didn't hestitate because stranger danger or because he thought this was weird, he hesitated because he pretty much loathed water. In fact, he would probably go so far as to say that he and it were mortal, lifelong enemies. Needless to say, he was not thrilled to drink it. He leaned over the Pool of Sleep and drank from its waters. With every sip, his body felt heavier, and so did his thoughts. His purple tongue turned darker, as if responding negatively to the stimulus. "What did I drink?" he wondered, face twisting into a grimace.
He was learning better. But he couldn't remember what he had learned about listening to voices, because everything was a little foggy.

Zar had absolutely no idea where he was. Once again it seemed like they'd gotten caught up in other people's business and something the horsemen were up to now seemed to have sucked Amityville into the fray. He'd lost everyone else he'd been with somewhere along the line and found himself in a strange room with no way out. It said the only way to leave was to drink from one of the pools and with no other way out that was what he did.
It tasted like nothing but very rapidly hauled him out of his natural form and slammed him back into an appearance he thought he was rid of, his horns shrunk down and receded and his large imposing wings became small and feathered with paper post-it notes.
He wilted almost immediately. First it was people telling him to make coffee, now it was once again being exactly what he hated. He moved to the next pool and hoped that it might be better.

His thoughts swimming around him, Van wandered around, stumbling, to his next destination. The pool of Fear. His heart beat quickly, and he felt as though he was being hunted, instead of doing the hunting.
This was altogether the wrong sentiment. He pushed against walls, shoved himself against the physical spaces around him, howling briefly in frustration as he calmed down.
And moved on.

The next pool was worse than the first, the moment it touched his tongue he felt it creep through is veins, fear overtaking whatever feeble amount of confidence he had to begin with. Suddenly everyone around was a threat, every person who sipped from the pools out to murder him. He cowered back and his wings and tail were not even enough to wrap around him and keep him safe.
He needed to drink more to get out, but shivering and afraid, he hoped it wasn't that pool.

[[ Sleep Fear Insanity ]]
Van was a little drowsy, a little afraid, and he occasionally made his hands into little rabbits and talked to them.
Mostly about food.
And how they'd be tasty-crunchy to eat.
"I know you're food, and I know you're cute, but one trumps the other! I'm sorry little bunny, that's just how the circle of life works," Van rambled, a little more than disoriented.
The Pool of Insanity - 5 You drink from the pool of Insanity. Every single time you take a sip from the pool, your thoughts become more and more irrational. At first it isn't too bad but the feeling compounds until you are literally talking to people who do not exist in the room, and feel a strange compound of agitation and paranoia. You are easily excited into attacking.

Once again he got younger, horns receding shorter still, losing height and span on his wings. He was still afraid, more afraid the smaller he got and yet there was nowhere to run and nowhere to go to escape the feeling.
