S.cargo braced herself, leaning forward just a little towards the tricksy cat, waiting..



She took longer on this one, trying to think of every play-on-words she could with the word plant. Alas, at last, she had to admit defeat.

"I do not know, Cheshire."



She nodded slowly as the riddle clearly went over her head. This cat sure was a peculiar one..

Thoroughly happy at your answer, right or wrong, the cat purrs. "All right, now it is your turn. Ask me a riddle, and give me a second to think. If I guess right however, I win. If I don't guess right, then you win, and I will give you my treasure. Come now, ask me anything. A riddle is as good as a story."

She thought a long moment and then finally pointed a finger at his general wispy area.

"What has arms and legs, but no head?"

The cat takes a long, long time, and finally chances a guess. They are wrong, and their tail curls a little more.

"No, a chair"

"A surprising twist, but I love surprises. You are quite the clever one, and for that, you deserve a small prize. Just this time, of course, just once."

A small treasure chest appears in front of you and then the cheshire cat is gone.

S.cargo smiles in triumph as she reaches down and opens the chest. The loot is hers and she seems just a little more pleased with herself and ready to start this endless search through the woods once more..

Ashes2Ashes was a little more somber now as he wandered, endlessly, through trees that never ended. Had he seen that one before? Wasn't that the same root..?

Then he remembered the ground moved, so maybe it was but he wasn't lost at all!

He stopped next to a rather funny looking tree and sighed, rubbing at his temples. This place was driving him mad.

"Hello," says the tree, "Have you come for a story?" The tree smiles, or rather, the space above the tree, just at the very nook, above one of the signs, to the left over the overhanging branch. "Are you here for a story or a riddle?"

Startled, he jumped back a little, but finally answered with a curious grin of his own. "Riddle."

At last, on that space above the tree, just at the very nook, above one of the signs, to the left over on the overhanging branch, appears a very smug half-invisible cat.

"You may call me a Cheshire cat," it begins, fading in and out of sight at random will, "but just one of many. We reside here you see. This is a nice place, and we so very much do enjoy a good riddle. Let us play a small game, if you will so indulge me. I'll give you something nice of course in return. All right, here goes the riddle"



He narrowed his eyes and thought about it, following the idea down a dozen ridiculous paths. "Your head!" Wait. "No, your.. heart?" Now he'd just confused himself.



Shoot.

"What is flat but sharp at the edges?"

"Your mother."

The Cheshire Cat was not going to have an easy time with this particular player.

Well, the grinning thing liked her answer once again. Whether or not it was right, she didn't know. But now was her chance! Now was the moment. She was going to prove that she was clever after all. She was going to stump this Cheshire!

"Well, then, Cheshire," she began once more, "What has ears, but isn't an animal?" she asked, lips curled and tone smarmy.

She gave the cat its time to think, as it had requested, but this time was different from the previous riddle. This time, it wasn't guessing straight away. It almost seemed...puzzled. Excellent! She waited and waited until finally, in faded form, replied incorrectly.

"Wrong!" Harebrained jumped, "It was corn! An ear of corn!" she pointed and laughed. Oh, farm jokes!

The cat didn't seem too hurt by its failure. A tail curl and a grin later, and a treasure chest manifested at the foot of the tree. Harebrained jumped with success and dashed to the chest. As she was collecting her loot, she looked up to thank the cat, but it was gone...

"What can chew you but never swallow?"

Maebe's answer was to laugh riotously for a solid four minutes, because her mind had gone straight down south as soon as he'd said swallow.

"So you want me to get serious." The cat hadn't said as much, and it only smiled when she told it so, because nothing about this seemed serious. "Okay. I can get serious. It's my turn, right?"

Maebe didn't know many riddles. But there were one or two up her sleeve.

"What's the difference between a drug dealer and a hooker?"

The cat did not even seem to know what either of those things are. Regardless, Maebe was an absolutely terrible person, and didn't even bother telling the cat the answer before leaving.

Because the answer was actually remarkably dirty.

She had come to a very large and peculiar tree.

It was definitively a different tree from the rest, as it seemed to bend at a peculiar direction, and seemed to lack the leaves or conversational elements that Golden had gotten used to with the other trees. Pursing her lips a little, she found herself tilting her head along with it.

"Have you come for a story? Are you here for a Story or a Riddle?"

The question, and the creature that came with it, made her perk up a little, making a small gasp as the feline looked her over with gold eyes - the same colour as one of her own.

"I could go for either, really, dear Cheshire." She answered softly, going to sit down at the spot she was at, listening to him carefully as he versed it, the smile never leaving his face.

"What can I hide but always find?"

Her head tilted the other way. Golden was actually really good at riddles, having had so many scholarly family members, so after a moment, she nodded to him. "A shadow." She answered, content that she felt that she won over him. After a moment, she was requested a riddle, herself.
