He pouted at Piper, "I was just saying hello to my favorite cousin," he replied simply as he took a hit from the mascot and then returned it by whistling for Endzela who decended upon the creature with a loud screech.

Kettil snorted a bit as he rocked back from a hit from the mascot.

She wasn't so sure, because it was getting mighty tiring to keep on the move . . . But Piper gave a little smile anyway and aimed her jug, a thin but quick jet of water splashing the mascot as it came in for the swing.
"Yeah, yeah," she said dismissively, trying to act like it didn't matter. "You better hurry up, Teacup, or I'll beat mine before you!"

"Oh gosh, you're right," he leaned and gave the creature a good thwack to the snout which only earned him a counter attack.
Kettil wasn't sure he was doing this 'hurry up' thing well.

"Yeah, well, you're distracting me!" she huffed as the reaper struck her again. Piper was really starting to feel tired now; even her own weapon felt heavy.
No, no, you're going out like a winner, damn it! She squared her shoulders and made a face.
"You're a third year, Teapot! C'mon, show me some moves!"

"I am? I'm sorry." He said suddenly feeling guilty. "I really wanted you to do well!"
Then she encouraged him to show off his moves and he did so by ramping up for a flying kick. He hit but he also got pushed down to the ground for a moment.

She raised her weapon to try and halt the attack, but her shield was getting far too tenuous to hold off much longer. "Look, buy me something sweet after this is done and we'll call it even," she told Kettil.
Then she watched his sweet moves. Awww yeah. Piper whooped with a grin.

Meanwhile, Piper was not. She slumped after the final strike of the scythe, hitting the ground with a wince. Kettil owed her something very sweet indeed now for a sore ego.

The reaper mascot was fast and slippery. It was right up in Nahm's face before he quite saw it move, and he oofed as its shadowy scythe hit him in the stomach. In return, it got a faceful of grue claws.

Maybe he should take a less passive approach, he decided. Instead of waiting for the mascot to come to him, he launched himself at it. Perhaps it was the element of surprise, but he hit much more solidly this time.

It retreated, swinging its scythe again, and his claws skidded off its arm. It was beginning to look wavery around the edges, though.
