...Oh. He hadn't properly introduced himself to this boil. Well, that was embarrassing!

"I'm Erebus." He said warmly, holding out a hand. "I'm glad not all of us are rushing up and down to get keys or else I'd be piggybacking everyone at the end, huh..."

[ hops up to fourth floor ]

He made his way to the fourth floor and again went through the door that was unfamiliar to him. Funny how Wilson had never really bothered to walk through the middle doors until now, but oh well. When he opened the door he found himself viewing a rather dull view of purple sky and lilac clouds. It was pretty, but he imagined that looking at it for a long time would get boring easily.

He noticed a giant window that took up an entire wall. Oh. A sigh caught his attention and he turned his gaze toward the slumped gargoyle on a stool. The gargoyle perked up when he realized Wilson was here, and even better, he was a fresh face. “I’m new, yeah,” Wilson answered in a confused tone. The gargoyle grew positively eager and leaned over, gesturing toward the window and asking for him to touch it.

Wilson knitted his brows, but obliged. He walked over to the glass window and raised a hand until his fingers brushed against its clear surface. The window glimmered, suddenly shrinking into something smaller, but the view outside looked familiar. He leaned over to peer through and noticed a street covered in snow. White flakes drifted quickly through the air before melting into the blankets of snow that masked most of the houses and streets. But the street seemed familiar. Hadn’t this been his home street for so many years? Outside on the lawn, he could see a snowman he had once built long ago.

The gargoyle next to him sighed, content. At least someone else was happy to see snow too. The gargoyle carefully gave him the key and he took it.

[ trudges up to the fifth floor ]

He knew this floor well. Actually, by this point Wilson knew all of the floors pretty well. Except, well, the seventh floor, but that went without saying. Again, the hunter strolled through the middle door while he wondered what he would encounter next.

And he found a very dark room with a rather gloomy gargoyle. Wilson leaned back slightly. Was this gargoyle okay…?

Wait, poetry? Uuuuh he wasn’t much of a poetry person, but he supposed he’d give it a shot for the sake of having another key in his collection.

He knitted his brows together, thinking. Then he opened his mouth. 5 7 5 77

“I am suffering.
I can’t remember for s**t.
What am I doing.
I am so tired and so sad.
So so done and so so sad.”

AKA Wilson was done with this s**t.

But at least it got him the key.

[ walks up to the sixth floor ]

The sixth floor. This was nearly it. He was almost done. Just one more done and he could finally advance to the seventh floor with the others.

Wilson found himself in a library. Libraries weren’t bad. He kind of liked them, though he wasn’t much of an avid reader. A gargoyle bent over a book looked up at him with mild interest and introduced himself. Of all the gargoyles, this one was probably Wilson’s favorite. He wasn’t going to lie. “I’m Wilson,” he said with a smile.

He shifted uncomfortably as the Librarian asked for a story. Well…

“There was a boy, and for the longest time he could see things. He could see things that most people couldn’t—things that went bump in the night and laughed in his face. Being the kid that he was, he tried to tell his parents, but they never believed hm. He tried again and again, but each time it broke his parents apart. Whispers when they thought he was sleeping. Arguments late at night. Eventually he decided to forget everything that he saw for the sake of fake happiness.” A pause. “And that was how it went for many, many years. He was happy, but something was always missing because he was always lying to himself. Then he went to college and met a girl.” A fond smile. Nostalgia. “She was quiet and a bit shy, but beautiful and smart. Everything that he wasn’t, she was. The things he could see she could too, and he remembered what he had forgotten, but for him to just remember wasn’t enough. He wanted to protect. He tried to become a police officer, but then an offer came.” The smile disappeared. “And then he became something more. The hunted became the hunter.”

The Librarian smiled and handed him the final key.

--

A very tired Wilson walked over to the others, dropped to his knees, and laid on the floor with all his keys.

"Oh hey, Wilson is back!" Erebus said brightly, patting Xiu's arm lightly. "We can go on once you two get some rest."

He only laughed at the notion of piggybacking, "I gave up after the coin collecting."

Upon Wilson's return, he waved and held up the offering of food he raided from the first floor fridge. "Welcome back. I got food if you need any."

She stirred when her arm was pat, lifting her head off of Erebus' back and peering around him through bleary vision. "Oh. Welcome back, Wilson." Without getting him, she shuffled towards the hunter on her knees...

...and then promptly flopped right back down beside him. "I'm ready to go whenever you guys are..." She murmured.

His face was buried in the ground. Wilson turned slightly to look at Xiu, then he weakly raised an arm. "Me too..."

"I'm good to go." Clyde paused as he stared at Xiu and Wilson, "...Do you guys want us to carry you there?"

With a heavy sigh, Wilson propped himself up. "No, I'm fine. Just give me a moment." A certain hunter wheezed, but finally got up to his feet. He gestured toward the doors. "Let's go."

It was a tempting offer, but she certainly didn't want to trouble anyone. Shaking her head, the ghoul pushed herself up with some effort, reaching out to grab Clyde's arm to steady herself before grinning sheepishly.

"Nope, I'm good! Let's get going."

And then she proceeded to drag herself up another flight of stairs.

Clyde smiled back at Xiu before following the rest and headed towards the door. He's going to lag back a little just to make sure these two make it there...without falling over and dying.
