As Shun patted her shoulder she nodded to the reassurance reaching out to take hold of his sleeve, gripping it for a moment to keep him in place while she caught her breath. The determination had not left her eyes, beyond the answers she wanted to help Shun retrieve his friend. Xiu was it? The girl the red king had been patterned after. They must be close for him to go to such lengths to get her back. It would have been nice to have a friend like that. In a way though, she did. As long as he kept his promise to remember.
With her break over Mitsu tackled a few more steps at a steady pace. Just keep going, she told herself.

So back to the guitar thing, Roch thought. How did he do that, exactly? Would he just buy a super tricked out guitar--and it'd been gorgeous, he wasn't gonna lie--and walk around with it on his back so all the girls caught sight of it--
What happened when they asked him to play? Something like--I ain't got my amp at the moment, sorry, but we can go back t'my room!

 Shun continued along at a steady pace. It looked like they still had some distance left to go. Well if anything, he supposed that the purpose of having a tower of stairs was to tire out any potential foes before they could reach your lair. It was something to think about. These steps were started to weigh on her. She wanted to take a break! Nobody else was stopping though, and she didn't want to be that loser. Why had she worn heels today?

Jing knew that he was going to have to talk to the voice about these forsaken steps. still, they choose to go on, and he would do his very best to keep up with his herd. She stopped once more, looking at her brother. The voice was growing vehement, and she vaguely wondered if she should warn the others. And yet ...
Everything she ever wanted? A big house with Jing outside of the city? More money than they knew what to do with- Ying would finally get her broken down motorcycle fixed, Jing could get all the booze he wanted. A party every night- they could be real Gatsbys.
Sadly, she realized the promise was false. While it was nice to dream, Ying had learned a very sad thing after living in the Watch's city.
Dreams didn't come true.

As she went a little further the voice entered her mind again. It seemed tired and weary as well but she was certain it wasn't from climbing all of these damn steps. It told her she would only be disappointed but she had news for it, she was already disappointed. This whole situation was one big disappointment. It wanted the one true king? Well Mitsu wanted to live. She wanted to exist but apparently that wasn't how the world worked. At least not this one. Maybe she was in the business of serving a little bit of disappointment back. Call it karma but she could care less about kings and kingdoms. She never would have been king what did it matter to her? The voice's promises were nothing but empty lies just like this entire place.
As it asked her what else she hoped to gain from this all that was easy. Even if there was nothing else for her at the end. If all she knew was simply the end of it she was going to see that Shun got his friend back. That was her one true purpose as of now.

The Voice could be heard again. It sounded tired but Shun really didn't care. He just dismissed what it was saying and pressed onwards. True king? Bullshit.
