"We should," Gray said, his voice tight. "Any suggestions?" He had no idea why Rose insisted on punishing himself or why he insistent on continuing to punish himself. Gray really didn't think he was equipped to solve emotional problems of that caliber.
"Um, one of my friends recently found out she's a demi-goddess. Go figure, huh?"

Rose had upset Mr. Gray enough already, but his jealousy knew no bounds and was uncontrollable, even if it was completely unjustified. He frowned down at his tea and took a sip, wondering if he would finally manage to finish it today.
"She's... pretty," And a total b***h. Well, he didn't know that, because he never met her personally, but still. "Who? Colleen? I suppose she is," Gray said, going to make himself another cup of tea. "I don't really look at her like that though. She's sort of um, I don't know. Like a little sister, I suppose. She comes to cry to me about her relationship problems and somehow I got a bit caught up in helping her find her origins and all that."
"It doesn't really matter what she looks like now, she's still that little midget on the inside--even if she won't admit it."

It was good that she was only like a little sister to him, but he had seen weird incest relationships before, so he was still going to be spiteful towards her. But, still, he was glad. Mr. Gray was his and no one else's.
"That sounds... irritating," He said, imagining how he would feel if someone came to him to cry about their issues. He wasn't too great at comforting or just helping people in general. Wait. He came to Mr. Gray over all sorts of issues all the time. "It doesn't bother you when I come over here, does it?" Great, now he felt even more guilty. "Not really," Gray said. "It bothers me when I hear about you making stupid choices." After a few minutes, he took his teacup and sat next to Rose, setting it on the dresser. "It bothers me when you say you hope I hurt you. It bothers me to think you want anyone to hurt you. But no, it doesn't bother me for you to come here to visit."
"It doesn't bother me when Colleen comes either--I don't mind people coming to talk. It's kind of pleasant actually. The only thing that bothers me is when people I'm a bit fond of act like idiots."
"When I get used to having someone around, I don't like the idea of them suddenly vanishing. I'm a creature of habit and all that."

It seemed like every choice he made was a stupid one, whether he regretted it or not. He smiled when Mr. Gray sat next to him, and told him that. He knew he deserved to be hurt, but it was nice that Mr. Gray thought otherwise. He leaned his head against his shoulder, hoping he didn't mind.
"That's funny. You don't like people vanishing, but you said you probably would before I graduate..." He mumbled, not enjoying the irony of that statement at all. What a hypocrite. Well, he was one too, especially after thinking of him like that, but still. Even if he wasn't going to stay around, that didn't mean he was going to give up. "I didn't say I 'probably' would," Gray said. He frowned, trying to remember. "At least I don't think I did." He sighed and put his arm around Rose, pulling the boy closer. This was so difficult. And Gray didn't like things that were difficult. But he did like Rose so this made it even more difficult. Auugh!
"Even if I left, you'd probably just follow me," he teased. He rested his head against Rose's and closed his eyes. He was so sleepy. "Just stay there. You're a good pillow, if nothing else."

That counts as more than a 'probably'..." Rose frowned, but certainly did not object when Mr. Gray wrapped his arms around him and pulled him close. It would make him happy to hear he wasn't leaving, even if it was a lie. But he didn't want to get gloomy over it, so he snuggled up close to him, enjoying the moment while it lasts. Hopefully that 'demi-goddess' woman wouldn't barge in and ruin it again.
Wow, Mr. Gray knew him better than he thought. Was he really that predictable? He was tempted to shake him off when he used him as a pillow, but decided not to since he seemed so exhausted. He owed him for putting up with... well, everything. "And what if six months out you decided the life of a vagrant wasn't for you?" Gray asked. "Or three months out you realized you can do better than someone like me? Hmm? What if you wanted to come back? You're the sort that would just rush into something without thinking if you might regret it later on."
"Which means I have to stay here." He just didn't like making commitments without knowing what the future held. He could say hew as staying all he wanted but he knew under the right circumstances, he'd be gone before Rose could blink. And he couldn't just drag the boy off. Among other things, that would be kidnapping. At least until he was eighteen.

I admit that I've had a problem distinguishing between love and lust in the past, but I know how I feel now. Six months... hell, a year from now, I won't change. I won't regret anything," Rose told Mr. Gray with a frown, clearly upset that he thought he was that stupid. Sure, he made stupid decisions all the time, but he had never been much of a flake. Even if he rushed into things, he never regretted it. He had only one regret in his life, and he already paid for that and it was never going to happen again.
He knew Mr. Gray was lying when he told him he would stay, but it did make him feel a little better. He snuggled him happily, whether he had any complaints or not, but stopped when he came up with that question out of nowhere. "Why do you ask...? "What? I can't be curious when you'll actually be legal?" Gray teased. "You may not care, but it's important information for me. Glad to hear it's coming up in the spring."
He shifted around so he could lay back on the bed, gently pulling Rose with him. "Don't get all cranky at me for considering what would happen if you had a change of heart. You may not be fickle, but that's not exactly a common trait among people your age so you can't blame me for being concerned. Ah, well, I suppose can blame me but I'd prefer if you didn't. I can't help it if I'm a cynical b*****d."
He closed his eyes and lay there for a long moment in silence before he said, "It's not so bad having you around. If you came with me, I'd be pissed if you decided to up and leave. When something's mine...I don't like letting it go."

Well, no wonder Mr. Gray turned him down. Rose willingly laid down when he was pulled and kept his arms wrapped around him, surprised that he wasn't keeping him on the other side of the bed or something. It probably wasn't a good idea to have an incubus on the same bed as him anyway, but oh well.
"I wasn't being cranky or anything. I was just... making a point?" He didn't even know. Maybe he was upset. "And I would never blame you for anything."
He stared up at Mr. Gray when he closed his eyes, and after a short while, he wondered if he fell asleep. Well, it had been a long time since he had prodded his way into anyone's dreams, so now was as good a time as any to-- Oh, nope. He was awake. There. In any case that hadn't been quite what he meant but maybe that would get Rose to behave himself. Though Gray seriously doubted it.

Instead of answering, he simply nodded when Mr. Gray told him to stop harassing people. It seemed like he was dozing off and he didn't want to disturb him, plus, he doubted he could keep a promise like that. He loved harassing people. It was fun. But if Mr. Gray wanted him to stop, then he would try. He would just have to stick to harassing him.
He tightened his grip around him and hoped that he would fall asleep, wanting to infiltrate his dreams and make them as perverted as possible just to mess with him.
