Blushing, Seth was a bit embarrassed not anticipating a compliment like that. "Ah, thanks Maryl." She scratched the back of her head and looked down at the floor.
Kel looked up and over toward the stairs hearing Maryl making such a fuss over something. He ticked an eyebrow seeing the dress Seth was sporting and had to ask, "Where did you get that?" as he stood up and approached to get a better look.
"Serenity sent it to me about half a year ago." Seth replied, putting her hands behind her back.
"Hmm..." Kel took a few paces back and forth in front of Seth, inspecting the dress, or as much of it as he could see around Maryl. "It's pretty tame for her tastes. It's not too bad."
Not too... Not too bad?! Seth rolled her eyes. It felt like she was the only one in the room who didn't like her outfit. At that point, sucking it up meant trying not to make it obvious that she didn't like that outfit as well.

Maryl patted Seth's shoulders twice and started to step away to not disrupt Kel's view when she paused for a moment. "Wait, who's Serenity? and what are her tastes like?" She asked Kel. She wondered if this person was extended family or something. It'd have been nice to learn something about what would be the rest of her new family.

Kel folded his arms and looked up at the ceiling briefly, "Serenity is my little brother's wife. Her tastes in clothing tended toward the extravagant and excessively accentuating. Low cut tops and and low rising bottoms, lots of silk, jewelry, sequins, furs, things like that.", Kel said rather matter of factually.
Seth turned to Maryl and nodded in agreement with a bit of a creeped out expression. Kel touched on the basic points without getting into the less pleasant details, but for the time being probably better that he didn't.
"She's not a very good influence, that's for sure." Kel turned and started for the front door. "Well lets get going." He opened the front door and held it open waiting for his two children to exit first.

Maryl wanted to ask a few more questions about Serenity, but Kel changing the subject and Seth's expression made her get the feeling that they didn't want to touch on the subject much. She decided to let it go and hurried to put her shoes on and place her satchel over her shoulder and under her uniform before stepping out the door. Waiting on the porch, She tapped her toes to make sure her shoes were on straight then straightened her hat.

Seth put on a pair of short boots and slipped her harness on, sticking her sword into the back of it before she followed Maryl out of the front door. She watched Maryl get adjusted then glanced back as her father shut the door behind himself. "So do we have a strategy going in?"
"I don't know. I've never been to the current castle, I just know where it is. Judging by that shaking yesterday things might have changed. Anyway we'll stay together, try not to provoke anybody." Kel said as he locked the front door and started toward the porch steps.
"I mean what are we going to do there? What are we looking for?", Seth raised her arms.
"Oh," Kel looked back at Seth as he paused at the bottom of the steps, "The king had a ball right? We'll investigate the ballroom first then see if anything else is out of the ordinary."

I wonder if the mana will still be present, or some kind of mark of what they did. Maryl thought about the investigation, it was beginning to feel like they might have a reason to continue struggling to stop the war. What was overwhelming was the excitement of going to the castle, as it was only building at that point. Maryl hurried down the steps after Kel and into the open yard. She just couldn't wait to get there. She was bouncing up and down, about to burst at the seams.

Seth shrugged and shook her head, sighing quietly at how her father's answers seemed more ad-lib rather than a step by step situational plan. It seemed to be something her father and her uncle had in common. As she watched Maryl hurry down the porch steps to the grass she tilted her head somewhat surprised. And yet Maryl seems extremely excited about this. Seth hurried down the steps after Maryl, then ran past her with arms outstretched to her sides. She jumped up into the air and began flying toward the castle.
Kel paused in his walking to let Maryl catch up to him. As she did, Kel picked her up and rose into the air following after Seth and heading toward the castle. Though he remained fairly calm, there was the paranoid feeling in the back of his mind.

After a bit of rattling and twisting of the knob, the front door of the home swung open as Kel put away his key and stepped inside. He placed his coat on the rack and started across the living room toward the hallway by the stairs. He was quickly sinking back into routine mode as he reached the kitchen and began to sift through the pantry to formulate a meal plan.
Seth entered and tossed her shoes as soon as she reached the inside landing. after a brief jog to the couch, Seth flopped down on it and called over toward the hall, "Dad, maybe you should just pick something up instead of cooking. Take a break today."

Maryl followed Seth into the house fairly closely, as she entered she had to stop to take extra time in order to place her bag down and remove her cloak and hat as well as her shoes. Upon leaving her hat and cloak on the coat tree, she fished through her travel bag to take her spell book to the couch with her. Listening to the forming conversation between Seth and her dad, Maryl climbed up onto the couch and opened up her spell book to thumb through it.

Kel took a step back from the pantry and shut it. Weighing his options, he took a deep breath and sighed. "Alright, what do you kids want?", he called as he poked his head out of the kitchen doorway. He shuffled about for a bit in the kitchen as he waited for a decisive response.
Seth shrugged and called back, "Um, hang on a sec." She took a few seconds to think before asking Maryl, "Well, what do you want for dinner?" Probably better to just get everybody's preference rather than to just call something out that only she might have enjoyed.

"Oh, I don't know." Maryl said bashfully. She couldn't think of something she wanted immediately off the top of her head. Before this she was used to getting whatever was nearby that she could afford or was offered to her. "I'm fine with anything I guess." She nodded, smiling to Seth before returning to thumbing through her spellbook.

Seth briefly scratched her head, "ooookay." She hadn't gotten a straight answer from Maryl and was a bit perplexed. Resigned to the situation, Seth just shrugged and called over the couch toward the kitchen, "your call, Dad!"
Kel stood up from his seat as soon as he recieved an okay. "I know just what to get then..." he muttered as he made his way for the front door. "I'll be back momentarily", Kel waved to his kids in passing as he recollected his coat and stepped out of the front door, pulling it shut and locking it behind him . Seth slumped back in her position on the couch to get more comfortable. She raised one hand straight up in the air, inspecting her fingers, "Ugh, this day couldn't have gotten any more difficult. I had to fight, I got knocked off the top of a tower, and I can't imagine I didn't piss off a few people at that meeting. I probably should have just put in some intern time at the foundry. The senior engineers can be jerks but at least they won't blatantly try to kill me."

"That sounds pretty difficult." Maryl said scratching her head after setting her spell book aside. Apparently Kel was right to warn them, but, "Things were pretty quiet at the library though. I guess my old manager was right about them being understaffed though. I had to haul around a bunch of books and help reorganize them." something hit her thoughts, giving her a brief gasp before she continued speaking, "Oh what about the giant man? Do you think he might do something bad to the next king?"

"No way to tell right now," Seth sighed, "Even if I could get the guy arrested, there's no evidence of what he did anymore." It was difficult to not feel powerless in such a situation. It's like the monster got away with murder and everyone had moved on already. "Even today, he just walked away like nothing happened. No one said a thing. And yet, once again castle grounds were on fire."
Seth sat up as an idea did hit her, "Say, Maryl, Do you think you can use your clairvoyance to get a snapshot of what's going on? I know it sounds odd, but thanks to that meeting, I'm pretty sure the giant isn't the only one who wants to stir up a war now."

"Well..." Maryl paused, somewhat nervous over what Seth had just asked of her, "I suppose I could, but unless there's something for me to focus on it might be very confusing." She stood up and hurried toward the stairs, running up them toward her room to fetch her crystal ball.
Reaching her room, she swiped the transparent sphere from the top of her dresser and hurried back to the hall and down the stairs to the living room. Upon reaching the couch again, she set her crystal ball onto the coffee table and took a deep breath. "Well, maybe give me something to focus on."
