Valzar grabbed her hoof and pulled her along with him as he continued running. "They're not slowing her down anymore," he explained quickly sensing that the vampiress hadn't encountered any of his other shields. "She's moving a different way." He eyed the skies half expecting the vampiress to swoop down on them at any moment.

Callista frowned and ran faster. "Almost there!" She was worried about what Valzar had said. She scaned the area and felt the Vampire in the air.

Sangula snarled diving and landing in front of the pair. "Oh...I'm going to enjoy watching the life leave your eyes...I've even decided who I'm going to kill first!" she hissed snapping at the girl.
To his own surprise Valzar found himself leaping to protect Callista, crying out as the vampire's fangs sunk into his own neck.

Callista gasped audibly. "NO!" She screamed and shot a bolt of lightning at Sangula. She shifted into a leopard and charged Sangula, claws raking down on her.

The vampiress hissed as she was stuck from above and forced to release her prey to deal with the oncoming attacks. "Looks like I struck a nerve," she snarled leaping back from the girl in the form of a cat. Sangula spared a glance at her wounds, knowing she was losing too much blood to continue the battle. "You should worry more about your friend..." she said in a low voice licking the boy's blood from her lips. "I'll be back, and now I can find him anytime I please..." Before the girl/cat could retaliate the vampiress leaped back into the cover of the trees in need of some easy prey...
Valzar struggled on the ground where he'd fallen. He could feel the blood running down from the puncture wounds on his throat. He didn't know how much he was losing...but it felt like a lot. Kar's going to be so mad at me...

Callista suppressed the need to chase Sangula and shifted back to her normal self. She bent her head and licked the pinpricks to heal them before she even thought. "Valzar..." She winced. "I know you're not going to like this, but you're going to have to take my blood to dilute the vampire's hold on you." She sat down and put his head in her lap, sitting him up enough so that he could drink. She tore her wrist open with her mouth and placed it above Valzar's mouth. She made her voice silky and smooth, adding a bit of compulsion to make sure he'd drink. "Valzar, drink what I freely offer, so that you might live."

Valzar felt strange, lightheaded and not in control of his own actions... He figured it must have been due to blood loss. I must be dying...

You are not dying. I'm not going to let you. She urged him to drink more. "That's enough." She pulled her wrist away and licked it closed. "Now you need to rest a bit Val. We need to go to a safe place. When you feel a bit stronger, grab a hold of me and I'll take us there."

She smiled. "You're not hallucinating, Valzar." Callista just sat there with his head in her lap. You can hear me in your head. Just like I can hear you. She spoke aloud this time. "I don't know why you can hear me."

"That's strange..." he said quietly as he reached up to tentatively touch his neck and winced. "She's gone, right?"

Callista's eyes darkened. "She's gone for now." She frowned. "Unfortunately she'll always be able to find you, since she took your blood. But once I kill her you won't have to worry about it."

Callista smiled. "When it comes to my friends and keeping them safe, I will do whatever it takes. Besides, you're in no condition to hunt for a vampire." She nudged him gently. "How are you feeling?"
