[James Mitchell]

James droped behind a large rock outcropping and reloaded. James finally felt in control of what he was doing. They had been playing cat and mouse with the Covenant sense the 'Hell Shell'. But now, it was the Covenant wo where getting mowed down. James pooped up and spun off twelve rounds into a small group of grunts, they were easily killed. Mitchell took up a postion behind a downed longsword. The pilot was still alive, just barely though. James wanted to get him out right away but fire was coming form all sides. "Someone, anyone, I need covering fire!! I have a wounded longsword pilot here! But, I can not retrieve him inless some takes care of all of these Covenant bastards! Repeat, need covering fire!" James shouted into his com and fired his MA5C at a phalanx of jackals. James was soon rewarded with a hail of gunfire toward the Covenant that were firing on the longsword. James hoped on top of the londsword and shot the glass canopy. James reached in and cut the pilots combat harnesses and pulled him out of the burning heap of wreckage. "Thanks..." The pilot groaned and blacked out. James carried him on his back toward the tank, it was one of the only safe places in the area.

Lee waited an agonizing ten seconds while all the members of Wolf squad came running over the defilade's lip. Well, all of them except the sharpshooter they had been assigned. That didn't matter right now, though, since all sense of individual platoon organization had been thrown out of the window. A few dozen marines poured over the lip of the defilade, following what they thought was an offensive push. Lee sighed, looking at the 50-or so men now crowding into the crevice.

"Alright Wolf squad, we're leading the way behind the main defensive line! Everybody single file, five feet apart!
Eyes open, weapons in front, keep your eyes out for grenades and hug the ground when fired upon!
MOVE OUT!!!"

Lee motionned for everyone to begin running, and as they did, the reason for having separate insertion squads was made perfectly clear: the 50-odd marines now trudging along in the dirt were making far more noise than a single 10-man team. Nevertheless, the more guns they could bring to this firefight, the better.

The marines kept on running, through incoming plasma fire, flying only feet above their heads as the raging battle on the surface continued. Occasionally, a stray grenade landed in the defilade, quickly picked up and thrown back up with a scrap of heat-resistant cloth, the marines who did so swearing as they had to nurse the second-degree burns received from the fiber of their gloves igniting. One marine went so far as to absorb the grenade blast with his body, his blood and gore reminding everyone of what was being sacrificed every moment so that others could live. But they kept on running, kept on moving, because this miraculously unnoticed push wasn't going to last much longer.

The front man exited the defilade, two marines following him quickly with Lee right behind as they came out onto the surface, a few meters from the massive wall that the covenant had re-purposed as a defensive line. Brute packs were rushing away in the distance, hoarding masses of grunts and jackals in front of them as they ran to experience the joys of battle they were so known for. Lee clicked on his com again, this time broadcasting to any UNSC personnel with 200 feet of his position.

"Alright marines, get on that wall! I want those plasma turrets disabled and our positions secured! Get them with their pants down!"

The humans began rushing onto the wall, the sound of gunfire and shotguns sounding as the first sentries were taken out. Running at break-neck speed, Lee dashed into a plasma turret's service well, crushing a grunt's skull with the butt of his shotgun before kicking another into a cluster of it's panicking comrades. A few of them fell, tripping over one another, and the ones who had managed to flee were quickly gunned down by the marines now swarming into the wall's service corridors.

"Man those plasma turrets! Turn them around on the encampment behind us!"

The order was echoed throughout the ranks as officers and non-coms began repeating it to those around them, some already firing on the ranks of brutes that were holding down the rest of the 301st. The others, assisted by members of Wolf squad, began the task of picking up and redeploying the plasma repeaters. Soon, the situation had been reversed, the brutes now finding themselves peppered by intense machinegun and plasma fire, and the barely prepared reserve waiting behind the wall trapped in what could only be described as a valley of slaughter.

Still, the brutes were a resilient race, and through the rain of death that was descending upon them, some were able to hurl spike grenades or release a round of their brute shot. A loud crash sounded through the wall's hallways as a screaming marine began to cry.

"MY LEGS! I CAN'T FIND MY LEGS!"

War was uncaring, and merciless. And as surely as they had wiped out the company of grunts manning the plasma turrets, they would fall unless the rest of the 301st could catch up.

"Rogar that Lancer, Im one my way," Matt replied on the radio. He saw James carrying the pilot and Matt started to lay down cover fire. "Lancer i got you covered get the hell out of there. Matt picked off the remaining jackel snipers and reloaded. He was down to 2 mags so he had to make his shots count. He picked of a brute and yelled toward James," Hurry up and get your a** out of there!!"

[James Mitchell]

James ran as fast as he could, which wasn't very considering the load on his back. The pilot was in trouble, he definately had a concussion and probably some broken limbs. James was getting close to the tank now, he could her it firing its main gun from her now. James thought about how Warren had saved his a** twice and he didn't get to thank him for it, it pissed him off. James decided right then and right there that he would do the same for others that Warren had done for him. James arrived at the tank and sat the pilot down who cringed in pain. "I need a medic over here!" Mitchell shouted as loud as he could, and pulled out his only can of bio-foam ready to use it if he needed to.

As soon as James was out out of trouble, Matt sprinted back to the tank. On his way he spotted a dead marine with a shotgun. Matt put his rifle on his back and grabbed the shotgun and ammo. Matt made it back to the tank and walked up to James," Yo alright man that was close, hows the pilot?"

[Please note: The following is in Karr's mind.]

The rain soaked streets of a 21st century New York City seemed to cause Anthony's eyes to water as the door opened. A tall, 6'3 man, straw like blond hair, and a mustache came in, and sat in the booth with Anthony. From what Anthony could tell, he was in an old diner in the early 2000's wearing civilian clothing, and now has been accompanied by this man.

"Um... Can I help you?" Karr asked.

The man signaled for a waitress. "No son. But your company would sure be appriciated."

The Blond waitress took both of their orders, Anthony, a coffee, black, 2 sugars, the stranger, the same except with cream.

"Now Anthony..." The man said, folding his hands on the table, leaning forward menacingly. "Where do you think you are?"

Anthony thought for a minute. Before he was here, he was fighting a battle for an AA cannon.

"Am I dead?" Anthony asked.

The man gave a chuckle. "No no son. Your not dead. Your a hell of a soldier. I dont think the big man is ready to get rid of you yet. No, son your dreaming actually. And me... well..."
He was cut off by the waitress. She set their coffee's down on the table and scurried off with a rushed posture.
The man took a sip. "No, I'm dead son. Your dreaming of a dead man you have never met actually. But I made this so. Because you know a friend of mine..."

Anthony paused for a moment. "A friend?"
The man nodded. "Yes, a friend of mine. We fought together infact I think I have met you once before Anthony. Baker Company Marksman... I think I was the one who gave you that title..."

Karr thought hard, he remembered the Lieutenant who had given him the title of Marksman on the Armengald. He still drew a blank on the name.

"I'll tell you then..." He said, after another sip. "My name, is Michael Brennan. I was Lieutenant of a Black Operations Squad. I had lost all of my men, and I died in the protection of you and the rest of your men..."

Anthony gave a sigh. "Well, then sir, you should know... they all died. I'm the last remaning survivor of Baker from Belfast."

"Cut the 'sir' bullshit. I'm dead damnit... Now, the only one you say?"

He gave a sorrowful nod.

"I see. Well, son the reason I'm here, which... I know is what your wondering; is to tell you that your one hell of a soldier. I have been watching you Anthony, and I must say you remind me of myself. I was a solid tactition, and really, I always had my head in the clouds." He scoffed. "Hell, I always wanted to be a damned hero... now look at me..."
He ran his hand down the front of his face. As if wiping away water that wasn't there.

"Anthony, my time here is short. But I want to finish up with this: help them survive. That is key. What got me through everything... was the fact that I thought for the survival of everyone else." He got up out of the booth. "Remember that."

He retrived a drivers cap from his jacket pocket. The rain came down harder now, and a strike of thunder shook the small diner.

"Yep! I'mma comin." He said to no one.

He turned to Anthony, and held out his hand. Anthony grasped it and shook it firmly. "Godspeed son."

Mike was about to leave when he jumped suddenly with an 'Oh!' and turned back to Karr. "Son, when you can, tell Hammer that ol' b*****d I say hi. And tell him to hold onto my tags for me."

Anthony nodded in responce and watched as Brennan left the cafe, and dissapered in a cloud of steam from the manholes.

Again Anthony had to blink from the rain outside-

[James Mitchell]

James turned to face Morrison and noded. "I'll be fine, I'm not sure about him though." James said to Morrison refferring to the pilot whou was mortally wounded. James shock his head at the sight and screamed again. "I said I need a damn medic over here!!!!" James shouted even luder than before, which he didn't think was possible. James was getting impatient now, this was taking way to long. In fact he wasn't impatient at all, he was pissed off. That man had just saved Laconea Squad's asses and he couldn't even get a medic to save him.

Seth was advancing slowly along wit the rest of his Squad, nor more confident since the destruction of the towers. Methodically shooting the remaining covenant in the area. He popped a fatally wounded fallen brute with a three round burst in the skull for good measure.

He heard Karr's voice over the COM, "We have the first half." He reported back. Turning Seth saw the Armor and Hogs slowly prowling the war torn field of battle. Marines scowled the rear looking for Covenant survivors.

"We took the Wall Kar, but from the reports I'm hearing we've got part two coming up. The AA is just on the other side. But a whole lot of Tangos would rather we stayed over here."
He made eye contact with Bishop who was distributing the rest of the squad to head up onto the wall and secure positions. He gave Bishop a sign to wait. "What's your location Karr?" He asked looking around for the man.

Anthony got up, his vision still shaky, but he could see.

"Lieutenant, I'm at the towers, but I'm moving to the wall now."

He began at a full scale sprint across the sand. His boots kicked up a dust cloud as he continued past jogging marines; jarring at them to move faster as he went past.

Anthony finally came to the 3 story wall. It was the remains on an old construction site which made it impossible to break. Looking down at his foot, he found a Brute Spike. This gave him an Idea.

Hefting the Brute Spiker up, he aimed at the top of the wall, and shot the metal spikes from the top, down ward untill he hit the ground. He did the same next to thal line of spikes, making sure to leave gaps in between.

"Marines! We got a way up. You three, on my a**. Lets go!"

He positioned himself on the one spike, and begain climbing his way up the wall.

Making it up to the top, he quickly positioned himself into a prime jumping position and hopped the lip of the wall, the other side where he hit pavement.

He looked up, 3 marines manned a machine gun.
"What is this?! 3 Marines on one gun?! NO! Get your asses down the line. Where is Captain Lee?!"

Nobody replied.

He kneeled down, trying to move as the mariens began flooding their way up via the makeshift ladder. He keyed his COM.

"Captain Lee, do you copy?"

Dansmith ran as hard as he could through the depression in the ground. Plasma fire was everywhere... His CO was nowhere, and their target was somewhere. He put a Brute into his sights as he skidded to a fast halt, then pulled the trigger once. Twice. Thrice. Dead. The Brute's ugly form fell forward onto a pile of it's own brains, primed Spiker Grenade in hand...
Get down! He leaned back and pulled his legs up, slamming hard onto his back upon the pebbled and galssed ground. A muffled explosion and a fast, brief swarm of spikes lanced over his head, followed lazily by a wiff of smoke and the smell of ozone.
"s**t, that was close!" He cried, hauling himself up. He called for TeamComm on his helmet, but all he got was static. He pounded his helmet with the palm of his hand: still nothing. He must have damaged the thing when he fell to the ground... Dammit.
"I need some support here!" He yelled out as two squads of Buggers flew in from underneath the black-cloud ceiling generated by a few busted Warthogs and one very dead Tank. Their wings and chittering gossip shrilled in his ears as they opened up with small-arms plasma fire and Needle rounds. Ashton dove to the side and hunkered behind a blown-up Hog. Men ran past him, hollaring from the charge, running for their lives, and rallying their comrades.

A loud explosion shook the wall, the aqueduct's concrete walls shattering under the force of a brute shot's continued attention. Dust and sand sprayed the Captain as rubble flew past his face, peppering the ground next to his partially concealed position. Two nearby marines took up similarly useful cover as they waited for the inevitable attack. A spiker flew through the entrance, sinking neatly into the disused aqueduct's pipe, and as one of the two marines ripped it out of the wall he was brutally punctured by spiker fire.

"GET BACK!!!"

Lee and the other marine leapt back into the previous segment of the aqueduct, no longer covered by the support pillars they had been hiding behind, and the spiker went off with a thundering boom. A shard of shrapnel impacted the ground next to Lee's head, gouging an inch-long crease into the concrete before stopping. Going with the jump, Lee rolled into a crouched position, facing the direction he had just been looking in, and unloaded a shotgun shell into the group of grunts that was being shoved through the breach. Another shell leapt from his shotgun as he rose, yelling into his mike.

"We got a breach in the wall's eastern sector! Dibney, set up a turret firing on that position, we can't let them retake the wall!"

Lee backpedalled, ripping a grenade off his belt as he fired his shotgun again with one hand. The recoil nearly made the weapon leap downwards and out of his clenched fist, but using the momentum the Captain spun around and hurled the frag right at the pile of dead grunts at the opening. It landed in the pile with a meaty thud, and as the 3-second fuse began to tick the first of the brutes reared it's ugly head. Roaring, it charged down the aqueduct's tunnel, it's wide shoulders impaired by the narrow space between tube and guardrail, and another pair of brutes followed as the frag went off.

A splash of blue and green blood washed across the fire-encrusted section of pipe near the breach in the wall, the two later brutes reduced to pulpy mush. The first one to enter, not close enough to be killed by the blast, was instead propelled into the wall as Lee finally got his shotgun back in two hands. The beast roared as Lee unloaded a shell first into it's spine, then into it's skull, the garbled sound of it's indignant cry forever silenced. The marine that had been with him moments ago began firing his assault rifle again, more covenant troops pouring through the breach like a proverbial flood. Lee found some cover, trying to catch his breath as he heard Karr's voice through his helmet.

"KRSHZZ--- Lee, do you copy?"

Lee leaned past the pillar he was hiding behind, unloaded another round at a brute in energy armor, ducked again as the creature's energy shielding took the brunt of the blast and held his ground as spiker rounds began to eat at the concrete next to him. The marine across the hall ripped two frags from his belt, throwing them at the entrance, and began to scream as he let an entire mag at the beast. During all this, Lee began hastily reloading his weapon and chinned his com again.

"Warrant Officer, glad that you made the party! Now bring some boys to reinforce the eastern wall, ASAP!
Have the rest of them set up gun emplacements on the wall, and eliminate that garrison!"

Lee waited as the marine across from him finished another clip, and popped out to unleash a blast on the armored beast, finally taking it down as it attempted to marshal reinforcements into the hole. The creature gurgled as it fell, it's windpipe punctured by the tiny buckshot pellets that could put a hole through almost anything. It's death was not in vain, however, as more troops began to pour in through the breach, howling in anger and genocidal hatred.

"Copy that sir. Armor is here."

Anthony attempted to get everyone to move from the section of wall that the Tank was close at fireing upon.

Suddenly, the whole wall erupted into a dustcloud. The rubble flew everywherem pelting marines, and Brutes. Anthony was knocked back on his a** for a moment, but the Tank moved up where the wall and the groud were shallow along the rock wall to the right flank.

The massive tank halted at the new doorway it had created, and fired its massive cannon again into the croud of unsuspecting Brutes.

The lines of MG's were now set inplace ontop of the Trench Cut wall. Ratta-ta-ta-ta-ta went the guns as they fired into the horde of Brutes.

Anthony, went back to his Spike Ladder, climbed down, and joined the Ranks that began climbing onto the moving tank.

Michael jogged behind cover, plasma streaking through the air around him. Heat splashed upon his arms as the soldier peaking out from around the corner fell into a crumbled heap of carbonized flesh. Spikes pierced the concrete; Michael felt his heart leap into his throat.

[James Mitchell]

James cursed and applied the bio-foam to the downed pilot. It helped, but not much. Plus, that was all James could do for the man, he was no medic. Mitchell sighed and shook his head, he hated the fact that no medic came, he hated the fact that the man was shot down in the first place. James snapped out of hit and picked up his MA5C and went back to it. He sprinted in between cover constantly working his way back to where the platoons where. He wanted back into the s**t, he wanted to get even with The Covenant, to kill as many of them as they killed of the marines. James hated the fact that it might not ever happen. James was forced back into reality as a plasma round spun by his face. Mitchell slid behind the cover of a large rock and fired on the approching Covenant. "Die you sons of bitches!" James shouted as he emptied a clip form his MA5C into a brute's skull. James liked the noise that came from the brute's bublous frame hitting the dirt lifeless, covered in it's own blood.

Matt watched James run off. He wanted to go but he had is orders. He still wondered why no medic came. He didnt knowing that while the rest of his squad were fighting, he was sitting down to watch a tank.
