Shinta moaned an slowly raised his head, "Liz, what happened?" he asked as pain pured through his body. He remembered seeing the brutes come in and the Vette running them over, but nothing else. He lifted his arm, it still hurt quite a bit, he looked at the display, "Let's see, about four, five hours?" he said to himself, "I could if I have to..." his voice trailed off as he began to think."

Liz looked toward the Vette. She thought that she had heard Shinta talk, but she might have imagined it.

The Liuetent looked like he might have gone on for some time more, but stopped when the RO, Cprl. Levigot, tapped his shoulder.

"Sir, that was EASY-6. They've squaked for aid. Seems some covenant has holed them up in some experimental tech lab. They're holding, for now, but won't last much longer.

Sighing, the Liuetent turned to the surviving marines.

"Easy one, easy three, on you feet! For now, you are all one mobile unit. Buddy up, 'cause clearing might take some time. Squad one, surviours from either previous platoon, you're taking the wounded back to I-company's HZ. It's one lazy-assed company I know, but it's closest. The rest of us, tactical coumn! We're off to go recover our HWT's. Move out!"

Alison fell in line near the middle of the jogging troopers, keeping it to an easily pace. Everywhere, they could hear plasma and kinitic fire permeating through the walls. Occationally, the column would have to double step around friendly (or otherwise) corpses.

Before long, the plasma fire grew distinctly lounder. Almost as one, the marines slowed and dropped down to combat crouches. rounding a corner, they found a mixed Covenant company fireing on a pair of half closed blast doors. Again, almost as one, the marines open fire on the TANGO's, dropping them in showers of multi-coloured blood.

The engineers moved up and, with some tinkering, got the doors to open fully. Six blood splattered soldiers grinned lopsidedly at their rescue wagon. Alison took in the fact that they were taking cover behind what seemed to be thrity or so AI platforms. Odd...

The Gunny wondered closer to one, and it sparkled to life. The avatar displayed upon it was a young woman who seemed to be dressed in what appared to be 1600's men's Lord's dress. Complete with frock coat and dueler's raiper. The AI took a bow.

"Good day, milday. I am AI 69401-28336-SI. But you can call me Sable. Are you here to collect me, now?"

Alison blinked.

"Am here to what you now?"

"Collect. Uplink me into your helmet? You are my assassigned carier, are you not? 16207-69401-AA? Gunnery Sergant Alison Atridies?"

"Yes..."

She was somewhat at a loss. As far as she knew, RM's didn't get AI's.

"Good. One moment please...saving to drive..."

Sable's avatar dissolved. A moment later, a thumbnail sized disk poped out of the poteum. Not really knowing what else to do, Alison palmed it. The Gunny took off her helmet and slid the disk into the corrispoding slot, in the back. Sable's cool voice rang in Alison's COMM piece, as she spoke.

"Running DXT...one moment please...All systems seemed to be in order..."

Liz had followed the Marines, leaving the Vette and command of the bridge in charge of Shinta (Who had passed out again, so he doesn't know it), Shelby, Shawn, and Ash. "Interesting... Seems like someone high up sees potential in you." She said after the Marine slid the AI into her helmet. "Which reminds me, I need a new helmet."

Alison jumped. She hadn't heard Liz come up behind her. Shitte! This is combat, Alison! Get it together! To cover up her startlemen, the Gunny mostioned to the other AIPS's.

"I suppose so...What's with all the AIPS's, ma'am?"

After you got past the dominating AIPS's, she noticed the walls were lined with other weapons. More different classes weapons that the marine had ever seen at any one time. Hell, there were even ones she didn't know. The soldiers from Easy-1, Easy-3, and Easy-6 were swaping and resuppliing themselves from the walls.

"And the prototpyes?"

A thought dawned on Alison.

"Ma'am, is this...is this a TWD cruiser?"

"Precisly."

Sable's voice was clipped with formal tones.

"New York is part of a new, experimental ship, to be SI in nearly every battle group..."

Those surviving, anyway... The war was not going welll for humans. Alison realized that Sable had contiuned talking through her thoughts.

"...issuing throughout the battle group stationed in. In theory, every ship's marines will have a different type of weapon, per battle group. This makes it harder for the Covenant's shields to adapt to such a varied number of projectiles."

"Exactly, And your name would be?" Liz asked, then walked over to one of the weapon's racks. She tapped on the glass once, and, felling a surge of elecrticity, quickly shot her arm back, then punched, breaking thru the glass, feeling only a sligh shock this time. She grasped an object that emitted a blinking red light, then squeezed, destroying it. The power went out on that wall. She grinned, then started to break away the glass. She grabbed a sniper rifle. "Here, you might need this. No recoil, 3,500 ft per second. And here are some rounds." She said, giving the gun and clips of ammo to the Marine with the new A.I.

Alison caught the rifle by reflex. The weapon even looked sweet. The assualt sniper resisted the urge to imediatly start tinkiering with it.

"Atridies, ma'am. Gunnery Sergant Alison Atridies."

Her eyes were drawn away from the sweet shot, to the back wall where sets of armour were encased in yet more glass. It looked similar to what she'd been told SPARTAN MOCK V armour looked like, except....different. It was smaller, as if for a child and had a more streamlined look. The helmets polerized visor rounded back high up on the helm, allowing for a larger sight of fire.

Alison shook her head. What I wouldn't give to be in one of those things, right about now...

"What's that armour in the back there?"

The Gunny exchanged her pulse action for newer, cut down model. She switched out the ammo as well. Nadab bumped hips with the marine, grinning.

"Nice new shitte, ain't it? You like my tactical?"

Nadab heft up his newer TSR tactical strike rifle, cradling it like it was a baby. Alison shook her head. She'd never been a large fan of expolding ammo.

"If it matches your ego, yeah, it's a pretty sweet shot."

"For the Spartan IIIs. You know, the ones that helped capture that city that is still infested with cloaked enemies as we speak. And as is this one. Call me Liz. They go through basically the same training as we do, but they aren't really supposed to return from their missions, but it seems that they will prevail where we have failed. It used the same sheild system as the new Marine, ODST, and ST's armor does. And it seems that there is the prototype for the newest armor system on the right. It is supposed to admister painkillers to the injured area of the wearer, and also enhances the strength of him or her, too. Let's see if they is one for guys." Liz said, walking over there. She punched the glass covering that part of the wall, gripping the same object and crushing it, turning off the electricity in the glass. "Bon appetite." She said. "Figure of speech."

Alison blinked at Lizz, then looked back to the SPARTAN-III armour.

"You're shitting me, right? Regular marines don't gett hese kinds of perks. You know, AI's and...highly advanced battle armour."

"Hey, I found one with your name embroidered on it. And one with Aen's and Terrance's. And Shelby! Wierd, it's like they knew that we would be here... Hey! New Spartan armor!" Liz said, looking thru the window on a door at a lit up new MJOLNIR set. Liz walked over to the door and opened it. She walked near the armor and the lights in the room came on, revealing several more suits. She walked near a case with a blood red set of armor in it. The power unit that she had to destroy the last two times suddenly flashed green and stopped pulsing. The case was lifted up and the armor seperated into different segments. "Please choose the MJOLNIR mrk. 6, Hyabusa subcreation unit that you wish, Elizabeth, or the entire thing." A voice said. Liz walked up to the armor for a better look, it looked like that of a samurai's from ancient Japan. She smiled, then took the entire set. She walked to the lavatory and changed into the Hyabusa armor. She then set the core of the mrk 5 to explode in 5 minutes. She then walked over to an airlock and set the armor in, then closed the Airlock door, and pressed the button to shoot it out into the vacuum.

Shinta slowly lifted himself out of the Vette, as he did, a syringe fell to the ground, “Aw man, it feels good to have morphine in your blood,” he said as he stretched his broken bones, he was addicted to morphine and he knew it, “So um what’s going on?” he said as the Marines approached him. He gave a quick yawn and began to do a weapons check as one of the Marines stepped forward.

“Sir,” shouted Shelby, “Liz has left you in charge while she went to get some supplies.” She stepped back.

Shinta stood there, “What the hell?” he said quickly, “She’ll trust me with human lives, but not her car? Okay, ummm let’s just wait till she gets back.” He finished his gun check and started to pace.

Alison spent another few moments deliberating, then quickly stripped out of her battered, and much abused MSI, and into the SPARTAN-III's suit. Alison popped Sable out of the old helmet and slipped it into the new one. It's a perfect fit...

She felt slightly disorinented with the full screen HUD; it kept distracting her as she tried out the suit's motors. The Gunny keyed her SUIT-COMM.

"Sable, what're this suits capabilites?"

"The Mark VII SPARTAN-III armour contains all the standard Mark VI SPARTAN-II system capabilites, with one large expcetion: while the VII has energy shields, they are lof a lower rate in recharge and amount of damage it can take. To balance this effect, it has a superb set of cloaking devices, backward enjeneered from captive Elite's armour. With the proper training, it can render the wearer completly invisible, even after you've fired your rifles."

Alison found herself grinning yet again.

"Shitte."

Sable's voice was dry and the Gunny had the distinct impression that the AI was rolling her eyes.

"Indeed."

The Lieutenant's booming voice stired Alison out of her private conversation.

"Easy! We're moving out! Time to go shoot us more Covenant bastards!"

The assualt sniper found herself cheering with the rest of the soldiers. New tech alwyas seemed to do that. Alison dropped into line, next to the newly rearmoured Lizz.

Liz smiled, then Alison seemed to disappear. "You turned on your camo. Did you do that on purpose, or by accident?" Liz asked, looking at a slightly deformed light bent area next to her.

s**t! After a time of a blushing Alison fumbling with the different bells and whitles in the suit, Sable chimed in.

"It's the second switch, left of your chin, Alison."

"Thanks, Sab."

"It's Sable."

"What?"

"My name. It's Sable, not Sab."

"Noted."

The marine switched back to GEN-COMM, with some minor difficultly. The new ESP COMM system in the suit would take some getting used to. Especially the mouth key pad. As she spoke, Alison flicked her helmet's view to IR.

"Accident. The armour is not what I am used to. Where do we need to clear next?"

Liz took out an AI housing device from one of her suits many compartments and inserted it in her helmet. "Did you here that Alpha? Where do we go now?" She asked, wondering the same as Alison was. "Out side, the door right in front of you, there are 10 cloaked figures. A out." She responded, her slightly bored voice showing some genuine enthusiasm. Liz pointed to the door, then put an armored finger up to where her mouth is supposed to be, signaling silence. She went over to the wall with the weapons and grabbed a new grenade launcher, or rather an assault rifle with grenade launcher attached. She switched off outside audio and switched on TEAM-COM, and added the remainding members of Easy-1 and Easy-3 to her team list. "Alison, you and Nadab follow me, the rest, you stay here and gaurd the equipment, remember to turn on your IR visors and aim for the head, they are defenseless without their shields on, witch is why they rely on the camo. We're moving out!" Liz said, then advanced to the door, making sure that the gravity hammer on her back was secure and wouldn't hit the top of the door frame.
