all right, all right... *Bard wipes his hands off on a towel and gets himself another Dr Pepper* are you almost done down there, or am I going to have to take this fan off by myself?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 29, 2006 4:23 pm

*Luke pushes out from under the car, gets to his feet, and pushes back the goggles.* Nah, I wouldn't do that to you. Wouldn't want you to hurt yourself.

*Luke throws on a pair of work gloves and gets to work. Together over the next hour, Luke and Bard removed the fan, loosened the alternator and removed the belts, being careful to label all parts and pieces that they would need to put back on the Jag. After some healthy debate, they disconnected the intake air supply and fuel lines. Then, unbolted and pulled aside the power steering pump and air conditioning compressor.... all in the heat of weather pushing 90'F.*

*Coated in sweat and grease smeared every which way, Luke wiped his face off on one of the rags.*

So I gotta ask - did you purposely wait for the hottest day of summer? Or is this just mother nature's way of giving us the finger?

*Bard wipes the sweat from his eyes* ... if it's too hot for you, I could always put up a kiddie pool.

Actually, Mo's been pestering me to get it fixed in time for the classic car show in September. She had the nerve to tell me I ought to let a mechanic do it.

I make a point of never listening to her good advice.

*Luke laughs.* Does this 'Mo' work in an auto shop?

She works as an agent, which is, at the heart of it, a license to bully me.

*Bard pulls his sweaty T-shirt away from his skin to allow himself some room to breathe, he pauses, considering removing his shirt, thinks better of it and tugs it back in place*
PostPosted: Thu Jun 29, 2006 5:24 pm

Well, in THAT case, you can tell 'Mo' thanks for the advice on the Jaguar - but seeing as how she's NOT a car mechanic, she can go back to being an agent and doing her nails, reading Cosmo... and leave the auto mechanics to US. *points* Next time you want her to sell one of your books *winks* You'll give her a call.

*Bard laughs* I'd like to see you tell her that. I think I would pay money. I haven't seen an old-fashioned frat boy wupping in years.

*laughs* I dunno. I can run pretty fast.

*Bard grins*

How about we get this carburetor off before my car melts and runs into the gutter?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 29, 2006 5:48 pm

*Luke jumps to his feet.* Oh, yeah. I just remembered. Now that we're to the Carbuerator--- *jogs over to his bag and brings it back*

I got you somethin.... *reaches in and pulls out a paper bag that clearly has some sort of book inside and hands it to him* G'head.

*Bard gives him a quizzical look as he accepts the bag*

Too heavy to be a breakup letter... I give up...

*he opens the bag and pulls out a well-loved but excellently preserved copy of the 1967 Jaguar XKE owners manual*

Luke... *he smiles, flipping through the pages*

This is the real deal... not a repro, isn't it? These things aren't too easy to come by.

That's the real McCoy. ...Check the copyright date. Took a little leg work, but you know... I know a guy.

You know a guy who steals hard-to-find owners manuals?

*Bard stops on a page detailing the removal of the carburetor and ponders it*
PostPosted: Thu Jun 29, 2006 6:18 pm

Hey, I know better than to ask questions. *gives him a solid pat on the back* But hey - I figured this might jumpstart your memory. Seein as how you haven't replaced a carburetor since before I was born.

I'm not going to live to change another one if you don't stop yakking and hand me that crescent wrench.
