"Because she likes you and you like her! 'Sides, you're going to take a bath." Honestly, grownups were so dumb sometimes. He shook his head and walked back onto the ship, squealing when he was more or less pulled back. Uh-oh...the girls did that sometimes when he was in trouble. He stood there quietly while she went about fixing things and then blinked as the hat was plopped on his head. "Umm...yes?"

Thobias covered his face with his hand and tried to hold in the snort that so badly wanted to be released. Oh boy...children were such a delight, weren't they? Gem had hold of him now so he gave a nod to her and then went to deliver orders to the rest of the crew.

"Way down deep underneath it. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there." Bouncing around in zigzaggy patterns, referring to nothing in particular. "And up there." Another few blinking motions before bouncing over to his shoulder and hanging out there for a few moments. Where was Butthead when she needed him? People understood him. They never seemed to understand her. "You don't like swimmin'?" Then another pause. "People don't."

Well, that did make sense... somewhat. Though he didn't know what a brothel was, at least the first part made sense. Torn clothes created more exposed skin than she usually had and probably would have liked. He could deal with that and so thought about nipples, among other things, was erased from his attention for now. A final glance back at the little dragon on the ship before he was pushed to continue on and he did so, moving deeper into the atoll with her. "He's right. We should get clothes first then you can take a bath to clean up. The warm water might help your body temperature regulate better. Food afterwards." Though he stopped at a nearby stall and exchanged a few coins for two flasks of water, handing her one and then downing his own in few quick gulps. His throat really was strangely dry for some reason.

A light pop followed by a sound that bore striking resemblance to a sigh and Xeke had appeared next to Areesa. "I don't know why I keep responding to your insults." But seamlessly easing into the conversation with Logan. "There's a lot of money to be made when you live in a place so close to barren territory like the Glass Sea. Travelers need supplies and if you're the only one within miles of land that can provide it, then why wouldn't you want to stay? Humans are adaptable that way. That's what makes them fearful at times."

Desdemona came back shipside, bringing varnishes and protective clothing, and started helping with the runners, while Hunter came up from below and started talking to Richards about the present situation, and went to his cabin to check the map. the runners were going on smoothly, and would help keep the ship from taking too much glass damage, while Des was working on varnishing everything including the sails with a substance that would help reflect light, thus aiding in preventing fires fromteh magnifying effects of the glass with the sunlight. Once she was done with that, which didn't take very long since she had bullied support and was using her tail as an extra brush/mob hand as well, she moved to the Gale Claw to offer the substance to Gem as well.

"Don't think me a fool, Lycear. No one can carry all thier belongings out of the city. there's always something left behind. and you dragon types are well known for hidden hoardes and stores of things as your nature demands."

a slight smirk.

"We're not scavenging simply to scavenge. this is about perception of power. You're city, even in it's ruined state, provides powerful inspiration and direction to many. the Atolls in particular. your city has a defined boundary of influence, even now. But your weak. your vulnerable. and the sands are a harsh mistress. if we don't come calling, someone else will. Which is why I am offering you the choice to surrender the city willingly."

gesturing to the ones beside him to stay put, and walking to Lycear, taking his arm and making the gesture to walk with him while they had a more private conversation.

"My colleges are itching to take it by force. many of our allies and ilk have suffered at the hands of your guardians, granted, they got cocky or sloppy and paid thier just dues, but that doesn't deter that they were hung or jailed extensively. that cuts into profits, and makes for mutinous crews. If we want this as a base of operations, we'll have to rebuild it. And it's in a prime location. I've no real interest in trying to maintain larger territories than I must. and your city does fall under my control if we claim it. but if I refuse to make a move, Fang will. and I've also no interest in my authority of the Lords being challenged by a snake with Rider backup."

"Smart thinking Desi, might as well get to it. Despite how I hate putting things on my ship and the like." Being smaller than the Chimera she had more maneuverability to her. Her attention turned back to the little hat wearing dragon now though. "Good because we want to keep the sun off of you...at least your head. I have some more clothes for you too but I have to fix them so you can wear them." Pointing to his tail in indication at bit.

Apparently he though that she was the one with the temperature problem...maybe she was from blood loss the day prior? But he didn't look good either. Jae gave a light blink as he stopped them a moment for water and gulped his down like he hadn't had a drink in days. Was his ever full canteen empty then? Taking a few sips of her own, she held it to him testing to see if he would take it and drink it without question or not. Watching him they continued on, picking out a few clothes and the like that were to their tastes. Yes she was indeed going to have to fix them to suit their constant draconic parts but that would be easy. Thusly on to something that was like a cheap bathouse...wasn't separated by gender and offered little privacy, but she'd just have to deal. "Are you going to be okay waiting for me? Or do you want to come with?" Didn't hurt yo ask and maybe the water would dissipate some of the heat he was feeling as well.

"Who's to say us dragon's didnt' already use such things." Scoffing. "Power? Power from a runined city that will only continue to be ruined. Even with the people out of the city the disaters have continued...and if you'd paid attention you'd hear of stories from the atolls now of such things. You can't be ignorant enough to think that this is contained to one place." Allowing the human the space he wanted but not much. "And what am I do then? Allow you all to rule like kings over my people? Kick them out of their city? You fool yourselves by thinking the city belongs to me alone."

Logan sighed, he was starting to get the feeling whoever made these little Seons didn't give them a much sense as to understand what a person was saying. Though a look to Areesa and he raised an eyebrow, out of what he said she thinks he was talking about swimming? "I wasn't talking about swimming I'm talking about protecting ones skin from things that can cause damage, like heat." Now they were back on the ship and it seemed they only were going to stop here for a short period since it seemed that everyone was already back on-board. With a small huff Logan walked over to the railing and squinted his eyes again, it was hard to even look close to the Glass Sea without light hitting ones face, this part of the trip was going to be a fun one.

"we're well aware, Lycear. but we're also well aware the the epicenter is your city. almost every other issues can be traced to a ripple effect off of what's been occuring here."

a slight hint of a grin.

"There's a unique situation. your aware of the practice of flying under colors, correct? the idea being that a ship can fly under say, my colors. they do what they do, on thier own time, and a percentage of thier take goes to me. this is for the privilage of being able to sail with the benifits that come with my influence. if they don't, thier fair game to everyone. I want to setup the same system here."

"The idea is I'll have some of the crews under my flag help rebuild and restructure the city to the best of combined ability. we'll claim it as a safe port, under my control. I'll leave you in command as you have the most familiarity with the city anyhow and the people's respect, in return you'll pay a commision to me. Riders won't have anything to say about it, because thier working with us. We don't go using force, they have nothing to say in the matter, since thier our backup for taking on your dragon guardians."

placing his hands behind his back again.

"Fang overplayed his hand. He assumed that the idea of all the swag that might be in the city would prompt a full scale invasion, guns blazing. especially by gettting a Rider detachment to help with the dragons. he was counting on us being overly greedy. and most are. But I didn't get to be the lord of lords by being hasty or counting the coins before their in the hold. But on the same token, if you refuse to surrender, I have no alternative but to use force, lest I lose my position. and that will cost lives."

"I have made sure that pirate activities use as little bloodshed as possible. Captain Deacon is a good example of that, So is the recent captain of the Dagger. I sent word of this to Deacon, and he claimed to tried some kind of deal with your son that fell through. Your son takes a great pride in your defenses, and from what Hunter informed me, believed we wouldn't be able to take the city. you and I both know presently that we probably could. You're supplies are low, your defenders are overworked and lacking in sleep with all the recent activity, and we can simply win a battle of attrition if we really needed to."

"If Fang's bid comes through, and he usurps me, it's going to mean piracy like it was before the storms. Fang has no qualms with killing. he kills his own if the mood strikes him. and the power at the top dictates how the ones below act. the rules and codes they are bound by. I can give it some time, and then simply state that the city simply isn't up to our needs. I can come up with myriad reasons for it. simplest would be that the city's income has been dropping now that the official word is we own it...people aren't risking it to come to a pirate haven, and we're better off with the city as a free sector then a controlled one. But I need you to work with me now, to make this a bloodless encounter. Either way, we're taking control in one form or another for the time being. How we do it is up to you."

Desdemona nodded lightly, and looked at the glass..much like Kanzec, her bronze coloring was causing her to have heat issues. rather then it effecting her element, her skin was dark enough to absorb excess heat even in neutral form.

"He won't need so much covering, he's a gold. most the light will reflect off him, keeping him cooler. put to many layers on him, he'll overheat quick. his body isn't quite as able to adjust quickly to drastic changes. I'd be more worried for Kanzec. you'll need to keep him cool. he's a fire dragon, his natural body heat is on the high end, the excess from the sun and reflective and refractive glass is going to be heavy on him."

So this is what they wanted? Or at least this pirate...he wanted to pull the city under his colors. And then let it go later when Lycear asked of him? Provide excuses and everything? Well this conversation did just get more interesting didn't it? But at the same time Lycear was going to have to pay for it...these pirates were all digging in his pockets. Though he did tilt his head about Deacon, what did he mean the deal had fell through? That hand't fallen through. Was he dealing with a paranoid pirate? It wouldn't surprise him.

But back to this manner at hand as he considered his choices. He knew the pirates could outlast them if they wanted, and he could try to just full scale burn the ships into the sand but as it was said, yes his forces were weak as it is and magics took a lot of energy, add in all other aspects and it would be hungry dragons willing to kill for food. "You want me to trust your word that you'd do these things that are in the city's favor...but I have to ask why? Simply because you don't want this battle or Fang to usurp? How can I trust that you'd let the city go once you had it in your grasp? Illindal has never been opposed to the pirates even...we let you use us as port with the only condition being you follow the rules of the city."

"He's also little and his scales aren't as developed. I may be human but I know a thing ot two about dragons. Besides he needs a few changes of clothes, I'm happy to put a hat on him." Tilting her head some then at Desi. "Fire?" Looking out to the atoll where she knew those two had gone before looking back to Desi once more, "So I have to watch for him over heating and passing out on me then? I'll make sure he has plenty of water and stays cool...do I have to worry about the properties of opposites occuring?" Seeing as she seemed to be the dragon bearing ship.

"Mostly. I don't want Fang in control, I'd like to keep my position. I'd also like to keep relations good with the city, and no small amount of that is from your recent visitors. I do know about them, Hunter has kept me informed. I have often employed him as my eyes and ears. He's quite more attentive then he lets on most times, and it works to my advantage."

Glancing at the city.

"I have more then enough to keep myself happy. I don't need another city, and I'm not about to give any of the others a potent foothold. But my authority also lets me put things out of bounds, as long as I have a legitimate reason. If I were to say now that your city is out of bounds, it would make them doubt my reasons and would challenge my authority. If I have your city, and find it simply unusable, I can claim it as off limits since it wouldn't matter who controlled it, the effect is the same. But lets say I chose to enforce that claim. nothing changes except that you essentially pay me a tax for it. and since I am the wealthiest of the Lords, I don't need to pick pockets deeply."

"Not quite that nice. there's a reason you see few dragons around here. if it was just passing out, I wouldn't worry. think of it more like cooking himself in his own skin. I'm going to have to worry about passing out. As to bell...she may get colder in response, but I wouldn't worry too much on that."

Well this wasn't a stupid pirate as he initially thought...which was good in his opinion. Most held bad reputation of pirates and the pirates themselves made them look even worse. "Let us deal then." Lowering his head closer to the pirates level. "Your colors on my city, but I still retain control. You get your tax...and I expect you to vacate my city and relinquish to me eventually. You, the other pirates, they will leave my people alone...I expect no harrassment or pillaging or anything against them. The Guardians will also not be disbanded and if you and yours are causing trouble, they will be delt with. And if you do think about double crossing me...I will kill you. I'll go far as to eat you so that even you don't leave a body behind. And I will burn your ship in dragonfire and then I will burn down everything else that's under your colors. You will only be the first, in a long line of pirates that I will no longer tolerate." Frankly he didn't like this but he knew his options...he could be foolhardy and risk lives and such...or enter into a temporary ownership.

"Less worry the better. I already know the rest of us are going to have to cover up mostly to keep cool and keep the sun off of us or we'll cook ourselves. You dragons do me a favor and look out for each other." Though she did tilt her head. "Silvers...they would do well out here, wouldn't they? My own map has many a little marking and mention of metallics out this far. You're darker so it's understandable you'll heat some. Treasue doesn't seem too bad off but he's a child. Gold is lighter, and silver is practically like a mirror in the ways of sun reflection I would imagine. I know not the nature of most metallics these days...but running arcross a pack of hostile dragons would be bad. Or we could run across what my map mentions which would be quite enlightening...more or less civilized metallics that live as you and the Illindal dragons do."

Bloodshot eyes fixated on her water for a moment as he blinked at it, gauging his thirst against her own needs. In the end though, draconic body instincts won out and he took the offered flask with downed it as well. "Thank you." Giving her a grateful nod to follow. No idea why he was feeling this way but being thirsty wasn't necessarily a sign of illness or anything in his book. Meanwhile, he kept an eye on the sun and followed her around to buy supplies she needed to make them more suitable clothing. Things didn't seem very dragon-friendly to him but she probably knew better than him. Just like she knew where to find the bathhouses and how they worked. "I'll come with you. I should get clean too." And for some reason, even the thought of water itself was appealing right now... Besides, who knew who else was in these places? He was trusting people out here less and less as the days passed.

"Silvers would be great out here. my own bronze would survive well, and coppers. Steels would be sluggish at best, they'd absorb even more than I will, or a copper. but metallics other the bronze and silver I'd be wary of. Steel's are foul tempered. and coppers...well...they are just plain nuts. they have this real obsession with practical jokes, usually involving thier breath weapon, which is a powerful sleep inducing gas."

A slight smirk.

"the only others dragons can truly rely on are other dragons. friends or not, humanoid races alone really can't relate much on a physical scale. You got no real basis of comparison for certain things."

"alright, we have an accord. you keep your city guard and direct control, the city flies my colors, and I'll take two percent of the gross of the city once she's back and rebuilt in a manner suitable for trade. I'll provide help for that in crew and supplies. I'll make the city's area a free territory, which essentially puts you right back where you were except the code prevents this particular situation from coming up again since it will essentially be declared off limits for claiming rights."

holding out his hand.

"We both get what we need. You get your city put back together with extra help, I keep my hand on the reins of the pirate lords and thwart fang's bid for the throne."

Yup he was drinking like he was dehydrated...that worried her even more. As for bathing...well they had no choice but to really do it together with others in attendence and thus they had to settle for an unoccupied corner as well as properly folding around wings for any privacy. She was also quite keen on how he'd reacted the last time she hadn't had anything on and thus was trying to do her best to get clean, not un-nerve him, and keep an eye on him at the same time. But it felt good to get all the blood off her skin and out of her hair and from under scales. Moving to their little pile of new clothes they had, she took a pair of pants that were for her and ripped them down the back, getting out the needle and thread she had gotten as well. Soaking and sewing at the same time...besides this way they could change and have somthing to wear back. It only took a few moments to hem the opening ripped edges and add a button at the waistline in the back. There you were, dragon-folk friendly pants. Picking up one of Kaznec's new pair though...she blinked then gave a look to him. "Um...I need to see your tail..."

"Well then...I suppose the rumors aren't too false then. Will be interesting if we run across such things...long as the results go well." Shaking her head lightly with a sigh and a pat to the little gold dragon at her side. "Understandable, but at the same time when you kinda share a form with us as you do now, we can have something valuable to say if you just open your ears and are willing to listen.

He didn't like that he was making this deal...but he knew that to do what was best sometimes you had to make the hard decisions. A look to the human's hand, knowing the pirate more or less wanted him to change form to shake his hand...and yet Lycear was prideful at times as well. This man was making deals with dragons and he should remember that. Thusly lifting a paw to his side, he pulled off a crimson scale, dropping it in the sand before the other. After all the thing was big enough to be a rather well shield or something of similar use if carved and worked right. And if this pirate was smart he knew that dragons never gave away healthy scales to just anyone unless they were making deals or trusting them. "Have your flag send over...but one slip up...by any of them under your reign and influence and it's off and you'll regret my good graces."

"No problems there. those under my colors know that when I say something is to be done a certain way, to do it. if that means listening to you, they better. or I'll get to them before you get to me. I won't have poor reflections on my leadership."

picking up the scale, that would make for something nice. who know what right now, but a red dragon scale was valuable enough. Walking back to the other two pirate lords, he held a breif conversation with them, and while they seemed none to pleased, they more or less seemed to go with the process.

"I'll have the banners sent over, and we'll get started on the work. Always good to come to a mutually profitable arrangement."

"True, your medical knowledge can prove quite useful. Just make sure Kanzec stays hydrated. treat it almost like a plant constantly wilting from lack of water. and try not to touch him too much without protection that isn't flammable."
PostPosted: Wed Jul 23, 2008 7:31 pm

He wouldn't consider it mutually profitable at all, but this was the best course of action for now...if he had to take his own measures because things got out of hand, then he would. A look to his own followers and a nod back toward the city to tell them to head back as he followed. Koto of course was waiting for him.

"You just sold your soul to pirates...hardly what I would call a good maneuver."

"Right now my soul's price is what it takes to keep people alive."

"So now I have to worry about him bursting things into flame? This get's better and better. Going to have to keep him covered up some so the sun stays off him then. We're surrounded by flammable material." SHakin gher head and crossing her arms lightly, turning a look to the Chimera and then to Desi. "How the Crazy?"
