Riley ripped open his grey eyes just in time to see a pillow fly into his face. The pillow stifled the startled noises he tried to make as he felt something try to struggle between his arms and chest. The white pillow rose from his face, outlined in pale red. “Gothita!” the baby Pokémon whined, squirming beneath Riley’s embrace. Immediately he let go and let Lizith hop off of his chest.
Scratching his head as he failed to cover a yawn, Riley sat up straight in the pink bed. “Sorry Lizith, I must a fell asleep still holding you.”
“Ita!” she pouted, a smile betraying her tone. She levitated the pillow to the floor and climbed on it, keeping her wide eyes locked on Riley.
“It’s not like I was trying to squeeze you or wasn’t intending to make you a lil’ pallet to sleep in.” The contents of last night’s dream still hung in his mind, most of the important details still there. Jenea’s stoic stare. The failed attempt at halting the charging Pokémon. Lizith trying to defend him from the attack. ‘Jenea can’t be ruthless enough to do something like that… And what was that Pokémon, and that attack for that matter?’ Riley pulled the covers off his legs and got out of the bed. ‘I hope I’ll never be put into that kind of situation, where Lizith has to protect me like that.’ He shook his head. ‘I shouldn’t worry about something like that. It was just a dream. When the time comes to test each other’s ability, then I’ll worry about everything.’ “Hey Lizith, I hope you are well rested. Today we start our travels!”
Riley walked over to his emerald backpack, deciding it would be best to change into his second set of clothes. He had fallen asleep in the first set and did not enjoy the idea of walking around in clothes he slept in, regardless of appearance. He quickly pulled off the clothes and folded them into a small, neat pile by the bulging backpack. He unzipped the backpack and pulled out the shirt and pants he had folded into his own, thin, personal blanket. Replacing the old with the new, he put the blanket full of his old clothes back in the backpack. He slipped on the black collared shirt with blue trimmings and the orange jean pants. A quick look over before putting on his black shoes and Riley was satisfied with how he looked.
As he was getting dressed, Lizith had taken the time to use Confusion and make up the bed. “All set then. Are you ready Lizith?” She looked over in nodded. “Then it is time to go!” Riley did not even attempt to hide the enthusiasm in his voice as he walked over to pick up Lizith. The Fixation Pokémon leapt into his arms and quickly made her way to the top of his head, grabbing hold of two tufts of his green hair to keep herself balanced. With the backpack as the last to be put on, Riley made a cursory glance over the room before leaving to truly start his Pokémon adventure.

Karrigan's green eyes were narrowed slightly and she stared at the laces on her shoes, noticing that she had company when a shadow blocked out the light from beside her. She couldn't tell if she was more embarrassed from being judged by those other trainers, or annoyed with Amber for being such a little brat, but as Amy spoke, she felt the feelings fade as quickly as they had come. "It's not them," she answered coldly, standing up and brushing the dirt from her shorts. "It's..." she trailed off, unable to think of anything else to say, so she plastered on her normal smile and nodded. "I hope you're right. I think Amber was obviously upset I didn't get anything for her, but she can wait until next time." Especially after that little stunt, she added as a thought, but of course she didn't say it out loud. Between Zaira and Amber, she wasn't sure she could handle two Pokemon that were so spirited. Amy proved to be a good friend and great at forcing distractions by mentioning the gym, and Karrigan's eyes widened slightly. "...yes, let's go," she said, her voice still fairly monotonous, and she pocketed her two TMs as the girls started to walk.
The redhead was definitely glad she'd chosen to not wear her new scarf right away as it was a rather warm day, as she could feel sweat starting to build up on her forehead. She used her left arm to try and wipe it away, the movement causing her palm to throb with the painful reminder of what were to happen if one found themselves on the wrong end of a Beedrill's stinger. Thinking about that run-in with the large swarm of Pokemon made chills creep down her spine despite the heat of the city, and she sighed. That encounter had made her realize that she needed to expand her team, and was her reasoning for capturing the Vulpix in the first place. Okay, I brought this on myself, she thought, deciding not to dwell on it any longer. Amy was right; with time, Amber would learn to fit in with the rest of the team, and they'd grow to be strong, and the first step to growing strong was taking on Erika's gym and winning her Rainbow Badge.
=-=-=-=-= In all honestly, Jake was rather surprised that Jade hadn't said anything about his little episode. That was probably the biggest opportunity the raven-haired girl had ever had to take some jabs, and Jake figured she either had chosen to spare him, or hadn't noticed. No, she noticed, he thought, running his fingers through his spiky, blonde hair. Maybe... maybe she understands more than I think she does. He nodded at the notion of food, his stomach making a well-timed rumble in response. "Yeah, food sounds good," he said, watching as Jake recalled Solaris and Aquarius into their respective Pokeballs. He gave her a smile, one that simply said "thanks", and they moved on. "So... what kind of food are we thinking? Pokemon Center food? Or did you want to go somewhere else?"
It hadn't taken them long to reach the red-roofed building, as the vast meadow made it easy to see where everything was. Like the rest of the buildings in town, the walkway was lined with well-kept flower beds. Jake was still bothered by the feelings triggered by those purple flowers, though he wasn't sure if it were the flowers themselves, or just their colour that were the problem. The colour purple is definitely familiar... he mused to himself as they entered the Floaroma Town Pokemon Center. Acting like the gentleman he usually was, Jake motioned for Jade to go ahead of him, as neither of his Pokemon had suffered too much damage from their trek through the cave.

Levi left Professor Oak's lab with his new pokedex in hand. He looked at the machine examining it closely "What a neat invention" He said to himself as he walked out of Pallet Town. Levi had a quiet trip to Viridian City. For now he was heading back to Pewter to get his bike he left at the Pokemon center. He stopped for a quick break at the Pokecenter to rest up before venturing back into Viridain forest. After his break he left for the entrance to the forest. Levi felt a chill run down his spine. He didn't particularly like the place. His last time in the forest had him chasing a crazed caterpie threw the place. He walked threw the forest that seemed to be quite quiet at the moment. Then suddenly a silky string appeared in front of Levi nearly hit him. He looked up to see a caterpie looking down at him. "It can't be" He said well looking at the pokemon. It was clear to him this was the same caterpie from before. He grabbed Orchid's pokeball and released her from it. "This time your not getting away" He said determined to defeat the little bug.

When Riza opened her eyes the next morning, sunlight was streaming through the partially open blinds. She yawned quietly and rolled over slightly, smiling when she saw Shiro sleeping next to her. For once he actually looked peaceful, happy even, and deciding that the sleep would be good for him, she kissed the side of his head, smoothed his hair a bit and carefully crawled out of bed. She pulled her backpack over to her side and pulled her dressing gown from inside, hastily wrapping it around herself before grabbing her backpack and heading out into the hallway.
The clock on the wall nearby said it was only around 6 AM, which was probably the reason why the inside of the pokecenter was still pretty quiet and inactive. She could hear the nurse bustling around in the lobby as she headed for the washrooms. She took a clean towel off the stack and peered in the mirror, frowning at her reflection. She looked awful, her hair was sticking up and out in all directions and she hadn't removed her makeup either. Her mascara had run and given her a bad case of raccoon eyes and she quickly made her way over to the shower stalls, selecting an empty one (of course they were all empty) and after hanging her backpack on a hook nearby she slipped out of her robe and turned on the water. For a few moments she was content to just stand there and let the warm water wash over her, and she sighed, carefully going over yesterday's events in her mind. The day had been...interesting, for sure, and even though it had ended well, she was still glad it was over.
She thoroughly washed her dark hair and rinsed it well before washing the rest of her, and when she was finished she dried off and wrapped her towel around herself before blow drying her hair. After getting dressed and applying her normal makeup she felt ready to face the day and she headed back out into the lobby, returning her key to the front desk, slyly smiling to herself as she hadn't even needed it. She wasn't sure when Crenu would get up, so she left a message with the nurse to pass on to him when he did. She would be outside in the back training area with her Pokemon. * * * * * It took Katie at least two hours to finish going over all the forms, filling out all the lines and double and triple checking everything. It was closer to 2 AM by the time she was finished, and even though her eyes felt like they were on fire and her wrist ached from all the writing, she knew that if she didn't go put the completed forms on Mai's desk right now, she'd probably oversleep and miss her deadline.
Yawning, she neatly stacked the papers together and fastened them with a paper clip she found in the desk drawer, and after making sure she hadn't missed any she quietly opened her door and peeked out into the hallway. Of course there wasn't anyone out there, but she still felt a bit nervous anyway. After all, it was a large, mostly abandoned hotel and it was the middle of the night, and Katie was only 14, after all. Deciding she wasn't going to make the trek on her own, Katie took out a poke ball and released Kord, her young Elekid. "Keep me company, okay?" she asked.
"Bibibi!" the electric-type cheered, pumping a fist into the air. Sparks flared in between the prongs on his head as he stared fearlessly down the hallways. He wasn't scared, not one bit! The Elekid turned to his trainer and gave a thumbs up, and the two started down the corridor.

It seemed like the weather was favoring Cerulean City again as the sunlight was warm and bright, with enough of a breeze blowing through to keep the heat from being too much. Riza closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, enjoying the feeling of the warm rays on her pale skin. She was happy to see that there was no one around as she made her way towards the training area, and she sat down on one of the benches, crossing one leg over the other as she opened her backpack. She withdrew the pink metallic ribbon case, and clicked it open, gazing down with wide grey eyes at the sparkling ribbon within. The center was engraved with a teardrop shape and as she removed the Cerulean Ribbon to study it, she found it also had the date engraved on the back as well. She carefully laid it back on the velvety cover and closed the case again, smiling to herself as she returned it to her bag. 'One down, and four to go,' she told herself. 'The first step on the road to the Kanto Grand Festival!'
She then released her Pokemon, starting with Yula. The Gardevoir gave an elegant twirl but remained silent, though Riza could sense that her Pokemon was incredibly happy. Riza smiled and released Akima next, causing the Gardevoir to do a double take when she saw her friend's new form. Akima preened and did a quick few laps of the arena, and both Yula and Riza marveled at the Weavile's impressive speed. Next Riza let out Diemia, fully expecting the Crawdaunt to immediately pick a fight with Yula, but she seemed to change her mind and instead sat back, hiding from the sunshine under the shade of a leafy tree. Riza released Eris and Plua next, giggling as the Quilava began to nuzzle her legs. The ever cranky Fearow just gave an annoyed squawk and roosted atop the nearby fence, glowering at everyone. Lastly, Riza apprehensively released her newest team member, mostly worried that he would run away out of sheer fright. The Dratini simply remained motionless for the time being, cautiously watching all the Pokemon around him before he chose to hide under the bench his trainer was sitting on. 'At least he didn't run away,' the raven haired girl thought, already in the process of planning out appeals and combinations for her next contest. * * * * * The dynamic duo of Katie and Kord marched diligently down the hallway, though Katie passed by the elevator without so much as giving it a first glance. She'd rather take the stairs hundreds of times over than take a chance on the rickety elevator, and Kord didn't seem to object, hopping down each stair with a cheerful "Bi!"
In all honesty, Katie had forgotten exactly which floor Mai's office was located on, and she'd gone down one too far and was forced to backtrack up, though it wasn't like she or Kord minded too much. The Elekid was having a blast exploring this big empty place, though it was rather dusty and every now and then he would sneeze and shoot out a small bolt of lightning. He didn't cause too much damage, a shattered vase here and a burn mark in the wall but it was nothing that didn't already go with the existing decor. After a bit of wandering they found the Rocket Admin's office and Katie pushed open the door and stepped inside. It was neater than most of the rest of the hotel/base, but it still had a ways to go. 'I seriously hope that Mai calls in a professional interior decorator,' she thought, carefully setting the forms on Mai's desk, making sure they were in plain sight. She glanced down at the loyal Elekid by her side. "So Kord, are you ready to go back to our room and get some much needed sleep?" she asked, and the small yellow and black spark plug nodded. He'd had a pretty good nap inside his poke ball already but a full night of sleep would be nice too.
Katie and Kord hadn't taken more than three steps between them when a shadow stepped up to greet them, looking down at them with a sinister sneer. For a split second it startled Katie, but Kord wasn't even phased in the slightest, stepping forward and giving a sharp growl. The sparks from his prongs illuminated the area, and the shadowy figure, and at once Katie saw the big red R on his chest, and the black mask over his eyes. "What are you doing here, little girl?" he asked, his voice menacing.

Shiro vaguely remembered feeling a warm sensation on his head, his hair tingling a little in his half sleeping state, so comfortable and at an incredible peace that he dove back into the depth of sleep as Riza silently made her way out of the bed and the room. Crenu would remain there sleeping for a bit longer, normally he would have woken up an hour or more before Riza had, and several times through the night as well, but as the sun shone in through the blinds and cooing Pidgey started to awaken, the stoic blond was sound asleep and had been so since the two had drifted off one soon after the other. One explanation could have been he was tired, anyone would be after everything that had happened, but there was more to it than that. Crenu was a closet insomniac, it was a secret not so much because he wanted to keep it one and more cause of the fact that he never showed how tired he usually was and was and never complained about it to anyone. The truth was that Crenu hardly got any sleep because he was plagued with nightmares. But like the most chilling of nightmares, his weren't about a fantasy world where he was tormented by some exaggerated form of his own insecurities, no his were very real, more memories than dreams. The same ones every time, reliving the death of his father, his inability to do anything about it, and the way his life fell apart after it. Once the cycle got to the end it would just start over, or jump around randomly from scene to scene every time his eyelids shut...but not this night. His mind was clear of the past, at rest finally, the only thoughts in it were warm ones, thoughts of the raven haired beauty he was with, and he was smiling, but only while he slept.
His eyes opened slowly, and his smile went away as he composed himself and took stock of the situation. He was alone in the room now, but that was alright. Riza had probably gotten up and was out and about somewhere, he was more surprised that he hadn't woken from her movements, he wasn't a particularly heavy sleeper. Getting up he stretched, several bones cracking as he got situated, throwing on some pants as he made his way to the men's washroom. There was a bit more movement in the center now, but most of the stalls were empty and Crenu entered one, not waiting for the water to warm up as he stepped in and turned the knob, relaxing under the water. Heh, guess it worked out in the end...maybe I should go with my gut more often. He thought as he washed, stepping out and wrapping a towel around his wait. He throwing on clean pants and a shirt was all he needed to do, his hair more or less fell into place pretty easily and he would have been out quicker...but getting ready took him some time as he had to change his bandages, which was particularly hard because he forgot to take them of before jumping in the shower. Discarding the wet bandages he looked his wounds over carefully, heavy burns on his palm and arm, and stitching all over his other one. Were the cuts not so small he'd have sealed them shut with heat like he did the one on his arm, but the stitching seemed to keep the bleeding at bay so it was working for now. A few trainers looked on in morbid curiosity, wondering why he wasn't writhing in pain as he wrapped bandages around the wounds, no ointment to sooth it, Crenu liked it better this way. He just pushed it away, the pain something he deserved for his stupidity and he needed it as a reminder that his mind wasn't completely addled yet. Once he was done, Crenu was quick to leave, taking Riza's message at the front. He made his way to the training area to see her unleashing all of her pokemon, keeping a few paces back as he watched her. She really was quite stunning. "...I didn't know you had a Dratini." He said watching the pokemon cower under the bench. "Hmm, doesn't resemble the strong Dragonite he can become some day. He'll never get there by hiding." He said. As he looked at Riza, he kept picturing the Riza from the night before, and he reddened a bit before he cleared his throat with a cough until it went away and he regained focus. "Good morning." Maybe this was gonna be more complicated than he thought. She really was stunning though.

Riza didn't notice that Crenu had arrived right away, as she was watching Akima as the Weavile did her best to taunt the Fearow. The other pokemon, namely Yula and Diemia, watched with amusement, as by now both of them knew better than to fall for the Weavile's games. Eris, meanwhile, had crawled on her belly under the bench beside Faustus, who at first recoiled in terror but after the sweet little Quilava made it clear she had no intentions of harming him, the Dratini seemed to warm up to her, and both watched the unfolding scene before them with mild amusement. "Hmm?" Riza looked up and smiled warmly as she saw Shiro standing there. "Good morning," she answered back, tilting her head a little when she saw him starting to blush, a very uncharacteristic thing for him to do, and she wondered if perhaps he was embarrassed after what had happened between them last night. She certainly wasn't. She was also confused by his statement. "Uh, yes you do," she replied, wearing a half-smirk. "You were there when I first got him. He hid behind a couch when I first let him out of his poke ball, and then you drilled me with questions about why people go about nicknaming their Pokemon. If anything, the only Pokemon that should be a shock to you now is Diemia. She evolved into a Crawdaunt at the same time Yula evolved into a Gardevoir, during a training match, though despite her type advantage, Yula schooled her with a really well timed thunderbolt."
At that, Yula seemed to blush a little and she gave a little bow while Diemia smashed one of her giant claws against the ground, riddling it with cracks. The Crawdaunt scoffed, knowing she only lost that match because she was tired from suddenly evolving, yeah. Next time, the prissy Gardevoir would be the one that was defeated. Akima, meanwhile, had successfully pissed off Plua (really not a hard thing to do) and giggled madly as the Fearow dove at her with what appeared to be an Aerial Ace. Despite Akima's attempt to evade, the never hit move lived up to its expectations and Plua slammed hard into the Weavile, knocking her to the ground. Akima recovered fast and unleashed a Brick Break, uppercut style. It struck the Fearow square under the chin and sent her flying where she landed hard against the fence she'd been perched on. Riza narrowed her eyes and recalled the Fearow while shooting Akima a glare. "Really?" she asked. Akima simply shrugged and stood next to Yula, pretending she hadn't done anything wrong, though when she saw Crenu, her eyes narrowed and she growled slightly. It seemed the Weavile was still angry about how he had handled their contest battle yesterday. * * * * * The R on his chest, the black face mask and the dumb little black hat that went with the rest of the uniform was a dead giveaway that this man was essentially one of Katie's new teammates, and this information was enough to give her courage and she took a step forward, arms crossed over her chest. "I'm a member of Team Rocket, just like you," she answered back, her voice stern.
"Bi, bi!" Kord echoed, more static flaring from his prongs.
The rocket grunt sneered, and glared down at the small girl. "Right," he said, obviously not believing her. "Like Team Rocket would ever hire wimpy little girls and their wimpy little Pokemon." Kord definitely did not like being called wimpy so in response, he unleashed a thundershock, giving the rocket a good zap. He recovered quickly though, now holding up a poke ball. "That's it, me and my Pokemon are gonna teach that little runt a lesson! Go Machop! Crush this wimp!"
He flung the sphere and out came a Pokemon that was only a few inches taller than the Elekid. It was muscular and looked quite feisty, but Katie wasn't scared. Even though Katie was definitely not a timid girl to begin with, the time she spent with Mai had shown her that she needed to be strong, and not let any situation get the better of her. Even though the Machop certainly didn't look wimpy, Katie couldn't help herself. "And you called Kord wimpy?" she scoffed, shaking her head at the little fighting-type. "Please. Kord, let's make this fast."

Amy felt slightly uncomfortable, the chill in Karrigan's tone not passing her by. She knew that the Vulpix must've upset the girl, but she wondered if it was more. Do I annoy her? the brunette worried as they began to walk again, the gym their next goal. She knew she had a tendency to annoy people, especially people like Cyan, but she didn't want to bother the person she was going to travel with. Worrying her bottom lip and brushing the stray strands of hair out of her eyes, Amy kept up with her redheaded companion, trying to force the thought from her mind.
I ought to get some practice in with Lee, she decided instead as they avoided a large crowd of giggling schoolgirls smelling of flowers and perfume (she thought they might've just come from the gym, watching a match). One battle wouldn't hurt, even if I am a bit... outclassed. Considering her track record, almost everyone outclassed her, so it didn't make much of a difference. Flora could learn some things, too. She remained withdrawn to her own thoughts for the trip across the city, stealing glances at Karrigan to see if she looked mad or anything of the like as they walked. As they neared the building, she was sweating from the heat but her hands trembled slightly. Amy stared at the gym and felt her heart race, wondered if Karrigan felt the same. Is it fear or excitement?
"Well," Amy said lightly, offering her friend another smile. "You ready to go show them what you're made of?"
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
She largely ignored Jake's smile, indifferent to the gratitude he must've felt. She thought of the other girls, how they would've mocked him, how they would've tried to seem sympathetic with beguiling smiles and hidden fangs laying in wait. Before, even she would've said something, even if it was only a slight comment and a haughty grin. They're like weeds. What kind of thing is that to teach anyone? They weren't superior. Jade especially wasn't. I have things to hide, too. Don't act like it's such a big deal. Her face remained a mask of cool indifference as they continued into the Pokecenter, a faint twitch of her lips and a curt nod in response to Jake letting her go first. She needed to snap out of her funk; dwelling on the kimono girls would do nothing for her at this point.
"Up to you," Jade said with a small shrug. She pulled herself together (why did you have to thank me? you should've just let it go, pretend it never happened) and turned back to the blonde with an easy grin as the nurse took her two Pokeballs to heal Aquarius and Solaris. "I mean, food here is free, right? I'm not exactly looking for fancy food, either. Not like we're on a date or anything." She moved aside for Jake and absent-mindedly combed through her hair with her fingers. "Wonder what there is to do in this town."

There was an almost scary long pause while Jett decided whether or not he was going to rain Athena’s bird-like techniques down on Bugsy like the wrath of God. The suspense almost killed Scarlet, but in the end, Jett wasn’t sure. Jasper didn’t have that problem at all/
“Of course gonna fight him,” Scarlet said with a grin. After all, he had a decent enough advantage with Cindy, and an ace up his sleeve. Or rather a sadistic ghost in his pokeball. Bugsy would be the first stepping stone up to the top. “But I kind of wanna do little prep work first. You should probably battle him too, Jett, at least for the practice. I mean, if you’re gonna beat your siblings, you can’t be too worried about gym leaders, right?”
After all, the best way to train for a gauntlet of destined battles was probably to fight a gauntlet of non-destined battles with pros.
The trio’d finally crossed the threshold into the town, and the first destination proposed was a trip to the pokemon center. “Sure. Resting up never hurts.” Scarlet strolled over to the doors, Cindy yawning as she kept at his heels, the flaming patches on her back retracting. The redhead held open the door for the Quilava and his buddies.
---
What… exactly is going on here…?
The question she didn't voice was an altogether valid one, what with a giant redhead in a baseball cap and a charmander under his arm dashing toward her in a mad charge. Of course, she quickly forgot that he existed, what with the army of beedrill right behind him. Their needles were way scarier than those of the hypodermic type, and leaking an eerie violet poison besides.
Alexis stood there far longer than she should have before she heard Roll squeak and that guy scream at her.
Oh.
She instantly turned on her heels, snatched up Roll’s hand, and ran as fast as she could. Unfortunately, lugging around a rock type dinosaur tended to slow one down. And unfortunately, she noted glancing back, the giant man was catching up, and the bees were closing in even faster. “No no no no no no!” Alex closed her eyes tight. It couldn’t end like this. Not so soon after her promise.
“But Daddy, you have so many super strong pokemon,” Alexis pouted as she sat at her father’s PC, clicking through pages with Dragonites and Aerodactyls and Scizor. She couldn’t, for the life of her, understand why he meant to give her an Abra to protect her. Alex shut the laptop closed and spun in her chair to face her father.
Alastor Albright sat at his desk across the room, his dirty blond hair even more disheveled than usual as he spent hours pouring over a stack of papers. He looked up at his daughter, resting his face on his hand. Alastor flashed a knowing smile, his bright blue eyes almost sparkling, as they did whenever he got to explain something. Alex liked that about her dad. He taught her everything she knew about everything.
“I gave you Blues for a good reason, Alex. He has a very useful technique that none of my other pokemon possess. A move guaranteed to get you out of any jam.”
Alexis bolted upright in her chair, flashing the hugest smile she had managed since her parents got together and decided to let her go out and travel the world. She jumped up and dashed to her father, grabbing the sleeve of his jacket. “Is it psyshock!? Psybeam!? Ooh, or Psychic?”
“Ah, even better, my dear. The move our darling Blues possesses,” Alastor started, closing his eyes and outstretching his arms. “Is teleport.”
Alexis’s smile slowly faded to an annoyed scowl, while Professor Albright did all that he could to stifle his laughter. “You’re not funny. You’re the least funny person ever. Angry gyarados are funnier than you.”
They always said life flashed before your eyes before you died. Alex was just happy this memory was the first one that popped up. She reached at her belt and tossed the sphere down, and with a white flash, there was Blues, her father’s Abra, sitting boredly in the grass in the face of encroaching giant bee monsters.
“TELEPORT. GET THAT US AND THAT GUY AND TELEPORT.”
And Blues complied. In a flash of white, she, Roll, Blues, Scary Tall Pokemon Trainer, and his Charmander instantaneously appeared in the Viridian City Pokemon Center. Her father wasn’t a funny man, but he taught her everything she knew, and he was always right.

"You're gonna pay for that comment, girly," the rocket growled. "And for mocking Team Rocket. There's no way Mai would let such a brat join our ranks! Machop, give that little squirt a Karate chop!" The small superpower Pokemon charged forward, muscles bulging and raising its hand high as it prepared to take a chop at Kord.
"Kord! Fight back with a chop of your own!" Katie called, smirking. "Cross Chop!" It wasn't until after she'd given the command that she remembered that one of Machop's potential abilities was Guts, which gave it a boost in attack power if it were afflicted with a status ailment. Kord's ability, Static, could paralyze the fighting-type at any time and that would give their opponents the advantage. The orange haired girl grit her teeth and watched as her Pokemon rushed forward, both his arms raised high as he prepared to strike. The Elekid's left arm shot out to block the Machop's strike, and the two clashed. Their eyes met, and both Pokemon grit their teeth, each eagerly trying to overpower the other. It seemed they were evenly matched and they finally broke apart, still glaring at each other. It was hard to see from there but Katie didn't think Kord's Static had activated, at least not yet, and she quickly combed over the Elekid's available moves, and she quickly settled one one. "Now follow up with Shock Wave!"
The rocket grunt very nearly called out for his Machop to try and dodge, and it wasn't that the little fighter wouldn't be agile enough, it was that he knew it would be useless to even try. The Elekid began to whirl its arms, quickly generating the electricity, and the grunt clenched a fist. "Hold your ground, Machop! Use Focus Energy! We've got this!" Kord released the Shock Wave with a cry, the lightning arching and slicing through the air like a snake before it turned sharply and headed right for the Machop as it had crossed its arms in front of it and was busy focusing its energy to give itself an adrenaline boost. Its face twisted in pain as the electricity coursed through it, but after a few moments it shrugged it off and punched the air, giving a sharp cry as it glared at Kord, daring him to try that again.

Shiro looked at Riza curiously, he'd met her Dratini before? A couch...nicknames? That hadn't happened had it? Crenu had no real recollections of those events, was she playing a game with him? No, it didn't' seem that way. Shiro closed his eyes and forced himself to try and remember the scenario, and it suddenly came back to him. "Right...lot of my mind I guess. Been an eventful couple of days." He said plainly as he brushed the memory laps off as stress related. It wasn't like him to simply forget things that badly, but he wasn't quite himself lately. "Diema and Yula are foreign pokemon to me, I know nothing of their evolution cycles so their changing shape doesn't surprise me that much. Although I have seen a Gardevoir before in Hoenn. The point remains valid though, your Dratini doesn't look to be able to play the part of a fierce dragon. The possibility for potential only goes so far, not everyone is cut out to be a warrior." A fair assessment if he said do himself, but perhaps it was a bit mean. An light pang of what was probably guilt started to annoy his stomach, so he sighed and crossed his arms. "But I'm sure you know him better than I do. It's not my place to judge your pokemon, you know what you're doing." There, that was better right? He watched as Akima took on the Fearow, Plua if he recalled correctly, the cocky ice weasel having taunted it into a battle that she handily won after a few swift movements. He watched as she growled while looking at him, staring back at her coldly. Tch, awful confident for only one win against him under her belt. Wait, was he really getting into it with a pokemon? Riza's pokemon at that? He shook the thought from his mind as he turned facing away from Riza and her group, looking at a training section a few meters away that was empty.
"Well, anyway, I'll leave you to your training. My tools need some sharpening of their own. I'll be over there." He said waving at her as he started walking away, though he wasn't really going anywhere seeing as the next training spot was right next to hers. As he started walking he tapped all five of his pokeballs, his sixth still with the contest hall Joy as treating Poliwhirl was a task that would take more than just a few moments on a machine. Pupitar, Ariados, Fearow, Froslass, and Swinub all came out in a wave of bright light looking ferocious, with the exception of the two ice types. Froslass was still a little timid, and while she didn't immediately sink into the ground like normal, she stuck close to Crenu without looking at Riza's pokemon. Swimub sniffed the ground also following rather close to his trainer, seemingly more interested in whatever was in the ground than with anything else. But the other three weren't so docile, Fearow took to the sky floating above as he overlooked the pokemon that were around and scoffed at the lesser being. He squawked almost annoyed that such peasants were looking at his magnificent golden plumage, and turned his beak up at them, flying over to a fence post on their training square where he started to clean his feathers. Ariados looked from one to the other, then at Riza, and clicked her jaws at her. She looked at the hiding Dratini and the Quilava and hissed laughing at the cowardly snake and her equally feeble friend before scurrying off close to Crenu, it even looked like she kicked some dirt in their general direction as she walked away. Pupitar was, as his trainer, much more reserved of course. As the blue shell sat there in the dirt, unmoving, his eyes simply glared at Akima. He paid no mind to Yula or Diema, his red pupils locked on those of the heavily clawed pokemon. As the other pokemon followed Crenu he stayed behind for a moment just looking at her, then silently turned his back on her as he propelled after the others joining the group.
Crenu didn't seem to notice how his pokemon were behaving, or he didn't care, and just let them gather around the training area one after the other as he took his spot standing at it's edge arms crossed as he leaned against the fence. "There is work to be done. If you'll look among your ranks, you'll notice you are short one member. Poliwhirl will be out of commission for some time. While the break in his arm mends he will be of no use, we'll probably have to replace him for that time being to keep our numbers whole." As he spoke his pokemon watched him, though Fearow was still picking his feathers clean between Crenu's words. None of them seemed all that bothered to see the Poliwhirl taken out of the equation and being replaced, he wasn't a favorite in their books though in truth none of Crenu's pokemon really seemed to like each other, again the ice types being the exception as they had formed a friendship. It was no coincidence that they were also the only two of his pokemon that weren't particularly malicious. "If, or rather when, a replacement is found we face the problem of a proper rotation having more than six of you. But we'll deal with that when the time comes, if you don't want to be swapped out that often you'd better prove your worth to the team. Now Froslass and Poliwhirl received a majority of the attention lately for the contest. Now that is is done with normal training can resume, and the rest of you who have been inactive have to put in the extra effort to make up for lost time. Fearow was also training with me for the contest as I was going to enter him before I decided to go with Poliwhirl. That ended up begin a poor choice, perhaps you would have done better." He said looking at the vain bird, who stopped grooming himself to caw loudly nodding. "That leaves you three. Swinub won me Surge's badge so you get points for that, though only a little as it was a tie. Not acceptable, we are going to go back to that gym soon enough and win decisively, I despise pity victories. Pupitar, you really haven't let me down yet, and I don't even have to ask you to train hard because you'll do it anyway. You're the most efficient tool I have, get to work." He said as he dismissed the Hard Shell Pokemon, who immediately jetted straight for the fence post Fearow was on, hitting it head on causing the golden bird to take flight suddenly and squawk madly. Pupitar ignored him though, and continued to ram into the sturdy post from different directions as he practiced his Thrash. "Then we come to you, Ariados. You really haven't done a lot lately, and I begin to wonder why I've kept you around this long. I caught you when I was first starting out on this journey, more out of necessity than anything." He said coldly, and Ariados looked as if she'd been run through, getting low to the ground looking up at Crenu.
"...But perhaps that's too harsh of me to say. Perhaps not. We will see. It's true I haven't given you a real task for a while. Perhaps I am to blame. Yes, it is my fault. Regaurdless, you must hone your skills, I don't want failure from any of you. You must train hard Ariados, because if I take a chance with you and you fail me...you won't get another chance. Now get going. Fearow is a good match, work on your weaknesses and make them invalid." With that, Ariados looked at the golden bird, hastily firing off one string shot after another eager to prove she wasn't useless yet. Fearow nimbly dodged in the air, now angry with both Pupitar and Ariados, but he could only take it out on one of them without fear and focused on the spider. "As for you two...both of you work on your Icy Wind. Froslass still needs help getting it down right. Don't think I'm going easy on you because you're the youngest and weakest. I need you good for battle outside of contests, so you're gonna start working real hard to toughen up. Now." He said sternly. Swinub snorted happily as he tried to encourage Froslass, and she responded glad she got to train with her friend for now while the other scary pokemon were to busy to notice her.

Kressen was gaining on the little girl much to his despair. The little blonde was trying to run with her Larvitar, which was a bad plan since the little dinosaur looking Pokemon was really slow. He screamed at her again. "Put it in the pokeball and RUN!" He was closing the distance very quickly. I'm going to have to grab her and run. I don't think I can carry all of them and still keep up this pace. What are we going to do?
As he got closer the girl turned around and threw down a poke-ball. What is she doing? As the light from the ball cleared Kressen saw the Abra. What is she...Of course. Gigas let out another wail and Kressen turned around to see the lead Beedrill zooming at him all three stingers outstretched to pierce him. "Crap!" He took a flying leap at the girl and then crahed into the side of the Pokemon Center. "OWWW!" Kressen clutched his head from where he smacked it against the brick wall of the center.
He looked around to see the familiar surroundings of Viridian City. He grabbed Gigas and leaped into the air with him. "We're alive!" He spun his partner around giddy, but a little woozy from hitting the center. He then put his partner down and scooped up the blonde girl and spun her around. "Thank you so much!"

Karrigan closed her eyes as they walked, the heat starting to bother her. She'd rolled up the sleeves of her grey hoodie but it didn't help much, so she was forced to take it off and put it into her backpack with her green sweater, leaving her in just her khaki shorts and dark grey tank top. She'd also chosen not to wear her leg warmers today, which had definitely been a smart choice and she sighed a little, no longer feeling like the heat was going to cause her to faint. All this occurred with the redhead completely unaware of the fact that she'd upset Amy, though she hadn't intended for any of her comments to be directed at the other girl. Karrigan did notice that Amy seemed to be bothered by something, but Karrigan assumed it had to do with something else, like the contest from yesterday or something like that. She hardly noticed the group of schoolgirls, at least until one of them bumped into her, and Karrigan glanced back at them, frowning. How could anyone wear skirts that short and be comfortable?
Putting the schoolgirls out of her mind, Karrigan then became focused on her lineup for the gym battle. She wasn't sure how many Pokemon Erika would use, as she was certain all gym leaders did things differently. Candice often had four on four Pokemon battles, though she occasionally did five on five or three on three. Karrigan decided to be safe and plan for four, just in case. Ikouma, Lennier and Amber for sure, she thought, closing her eyes again. Aegeus will be at a massive disadvantage, so I guess Zaira will be my fourth this time. Yeah, that'll work. Hopefully Ikouma and Lennier can handle most of the match. It wasn't difficult to find the gym, as there were more than enough signs and such to point the way, and as they neared the building, Karrigan felt a strange sensation in her stomach. Was it excitement? Nervousness? She didn't know, but she glanced over at Amy, who looked almost as nervous as she should have felt. Amy's smile was oddly comforting, and Karrigan smiled back, for real this time. "Yes," she answered, nodding. "It's time."
Karrigan pushed open the doors to the gym and the two girls headed inside. Karrigan had known that Erika was a user of Grass-types, but she wasn't expecting to walk into the gym and find a lively greenhouse. There were trees and plants and flowers of all kinds everywhere, and it took a few moments to gain their bearings and find an actual path. It was also cooler inside, and the air was significantly fresher, as well. "It's amazing in here," Karrigan noted. "So much different from the dinginess of Celadon City." After a while, they did manage to find the battlefield, and Karrigan took a deep breath as she strode forward. "Gym Leader Erika!" she called out, her voice icy cold. "I am Karrigan Roberts of Snowpoint City, and I challenge you!"
=-=-=-=-= Just forget it, Jake told himself as he watched Jade hand her two Pokeballs over to the nurse. You can't remember anything anyway so just forget it and save yourself the headache. If you've forgotten it, it can't be that important, right? He closed his eyes and sighed, trying to relax a bit. It was nice here inside the Pokemon Center, and he eyed Jade as she spoke. "A date? Yeah right, you wish," he said with a bit of a playful edge to his voice, but he was smiling. He felt a pang when he realized he had no idea if he'd even been out on a date before, but he quickly pushed it out of his mind. "I don't think there's much to do here, unless you're big on gardening or floral arranging," he said, shrugging. He prepared Grotle and Bibarel's Pokeballs, quickly handing them over when his turn came. Thankfully none of the Pokemon were in bad shape so the treatment wouldn't take too long, and Jake uttered his thanks as his Pokemon were quickly returned to him. "Excuse me, Miss Joy, but would you happen to have a cafeteria at this center?"
The nurse blinked a few times and then giggled a bit, apparently not used to being called 'Miss'. She managed to contain her slight blush and she nodded. "Yes, of course," she said. "Just head to your right and go downstairs. Our facility isn't as big as most cities, so our cafeteria is in the basement level."
"Thank you," Jake said again, not entirely sure what had caused the nurse to giggle like that, and he turned back to Jade, looking like his normal self again. "Shall we?" he asked, obviously oblivious once again to her inner turmoil, and he gestured in the direction of the stairs. "Our free food awaits!" This time, however, he didn't do the gentlemanly thing and let Jade go first as he sprinted across the lobby and into the hallway. He skidded to a halt, sliding a bit past his mark but he corrected that with a single stride of his long legs and started down the stairs. The telltale scent of coffee and other baked goods immediately filled the air and Jake breathed in deep and sighed happily, his stomach making a loud squelching/growling/gurgling sound in agreement. He pushed open the cafeteria doors, frowning a bit when he saw that it wasn't really a cafeteria, just a small kitchen/canteen with about five tables strewn about. "...That's kind of a let down," he muttered to himself, but moved forward nevertheless and grabbed a tray before starting to fill it with a wide assortment of food for him and his two Pokemon.
=-=-=-=-= Even though her gym was cloaked with a thick, lush forest, Erika heard the telltale sound of the front door opening, and she smiled. She'd just finished teaching a class about how various flowers could be used to make perfumes, the highlight of which was actually having the class make perfumes of their very own. The gym still smelled very strongly of the various aromas, and of course some of the perfumes hadn't turned out very well at all, but Erika didn't mind. She loved every aspect of her job. She saw the redheaded and brunette emerge from the trees, the redhead apparently her next challenger. The gym leader stood up, for once not clad in one of her traditional kimonos, but in fact a pair of khaki shorts and a flower-print, short-sleeved blouse. Both were stained with various oils from her perfume endeavors as well as soil, for she'd been weeding the gardens around the arena. She brushed off her hands and smiled warmly at the two girls.
"Welcome," she said, giving a graceful bow. "Welcome to the Celadon City Pokemon Gym! I trust you found us okay?" She beamed a warm, welcoming smile at the two trainers. "It is my sacred duty as a gym leader to accept your challenge, and I wish you the best of luck!"
The elegant gym leader took her position on the end of the battlefield, not wasting a moment. A girl with curly lavender hair had joined them as well. "Hello!" she called, standing on a small podium. "My name is Tiffany and I'll be your referee for this afternoon!" She too gave a slight bow, and she was wearing an outfit similar to Erika's. She held up two flags, one red, and one green, and nodded to the challenger. "This will be an official gym match! Each trainer will use three Pokemon. There will be no time limit, no item use, and no substitutions. When one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle, the match will be decided! Whenever you are ready, you may begin!"
Erika bowed once again, her first Pokeball already flying through the air. "Victreebel, my love! I choose you!" The Flycatcher Pokemon arrived on the battlefield with a screech, its long, vine appendage snapping like a whip against the ground. "Dear challenger, you may have the first move," Erika said, looking quite ready to battle.

It was now quite obvious to all three trainers that Connor's Squirtle had been poisoned, as the turtle Pokemon seemed very sluggish and looked quite ill. Connor had called for his Pokemon to fight back with a Water Gun and it did just that, reacting quickly despite the poison now starting to steal away its strength. The blast of water had been aimed true and it struck the close-range female Nidoran, knocking her back. Hayley's brow creased with worry even as her Pokemon jumped back up, and she watched out of the corner of her eye as Mya evaded another pair of quick-snapping Vine Whips. 'This isn't working,' she thought, frowning. 'Mya's too far away to attack and Lucy's Bulbasaur is doing a great job of keeping her at a distance with Vine Whip. There has to be something we can do.' At that point, a chill went down Hayley's spine and she shivered, looking around almost nervously.
Only Lucy noticed the shift in Hayley's attitude, and she temporarily called off her attacking Rattata. "Hayley?" she called. "Is something wrong?"
"I don't know," Hayley answered, shaking her head. "Something just feels... off. I get the feeling there's something going on in the forest."
At that, Connor stopped his attacking as well, and now all three trainers and their Pokemon stared at the entrance to the Viridian Forest. At first, all they could hear was silence, broken only by the occasional cries of the forest-dwelling Pokemon. Hayley caught sight of a Caterpie inching up the trunk of a tree as fast as it could, and Rattata scurrying for cover, but all three of the trainers knew something was wrong when a flock of Pidgey burst from the treetops, their cries echoing eerily in the distance.
"This is dumb," Connor objected, only to be shushed by the two females, and he crossed his arms, no longer interested. The Pokemon, meanwhile, were all very attentive, eyes transfixed and unblinking, ears and tails twitching expectantly. They occasionally exchanged glances, the animosity of their previous battle forgotten. All four of them knew something was about to happen. Something not good.

And then, they heard it: a low, quiet hum that at first was reminiscent of a computer, but it quickly got louder. The quiet hum shifted to a constant droning, but by that point, Hayley, Connor, Lucy, Tisyphone, Mya, Bulbasaur and Squirtle all knew what it meant. Hayley and Lucy's curious expressions had changed to fear, and even the hard-to-impress Connor was looking quite scared. "B-B-Beedrill," he stammered. "But.. h-how? Wh-why?"
"I don't know," Hayley said. "I'm pretty sure there aren't any nests in this area, so I'm not sure if we made them mad or not..."
"Don't you think we'd better run?" Lucy interrupted, already backing away from the forest's entrance.
"Yes," Hayley replied. "We should do just that."
"Run!" Connor screamed, and he and his Squirtle tore off ahead.
"Connor! Wait for me!" Lucy cried, she and her Bulbasaur giving chase.
Hayley began to sprint after them as well, watching as her swift Rattata easily darted past. A cry from behind her caught her attention, and Hayley pivoted to see Tisyphone running toward her. "Tiss!" the brunette called, rushing back to pick up her Pokemon. The Nidoran was nowhere near as fast as her teammate, so this would definitely be better. Hayley could now see the Beedrill approaching, and even though she was definitely scared, she couldn't help but wonder what had gotten them all so angry. The Beedrill usually made their nests deep in the forest, so it wasn't likely that the battle had stirred them up. 'Someone else must have made them mad,' she reasoned as she ran, though as her pitiful luck would have it, she happened to trip over a small rock and fall heavily to the ground. Pain radiated up through her palms and through her arms, and she looked up to see her poor Nidoran lying just in front of her, also hurting from the fall. "Oh, Tisyphone... I'm so sorry," Hayley whispered, inching forward. The loud buzzing of the Beedrill behind her only made her feel worse, and she carefully scooped the Pokemon up in her arms. "This is not going to end well," she whimpered.
