"I have always dreamed of being an eevee breeder. That's why I was so excited to go on this trip." Shina shifts in her seat and looks away. "Though I almost wasn't able to come."

User Image Anise sat huddled with her pokemon, petting Felix nonstop but staring vacantly as if looking at something far away. Halcyon perched on her shoulder, chirping anxiously from time to time although the healer didn't seem to hear. Felix purred, trying to reassure his trainer that he was fine, but worried when she didn't seem to notice. Finally Felix stirred, lifting a front paw and moving to rest it on her hand.

With a jolt Anise seemed to notice him. "No, don't try to move to much," she urged. "The more you rest, the faster your leg will heal." She glanced at his injured back leg and quickly looked away. Pokemon may heal quickly and his broken bone would be fine in no time at all, but it just kept reminding her that she'd failed. Not only failed to be any use in the battle, but failed to even care for her pokemon properly afterward. What kind of healer was she if she fell to pieces when she saw her pokemon injured.

She rubbed her eyes vigorously, as if scrubbing away the tears she's shed and clearing out the image of the battle at the same time. Then she stood up abruptly. "I...need some air. I'll be right back, I promise," she told Felix. She waited for him to nod before walking quickly outside the Pokemon Center.

But once there, she had nowhere else to go. She leaned against the front wall of the building, jumping when Halcyon chirped to remind her the Swablu was still on her shoulder. She lifted the bird down and cradled her in her hands, then started idly stroking her fathers. She stared morosely into space while trying to think of anything at all to get her mind off what was plaguing it.

Shina looks a bit embarassed, but with a deep breath, answers. "Papa is a rather wealthy man, and it seems everyone in 'polite society' takes that as permission to make my life their business. According to the busybodies, proper young ladies don't go out adventuring to capture pokemon, especially not this far from home."

Her face twists slightly with a mildly disgusted expression. Shina continues airily, "Oh, aspiring to breed rare pokemon is perfectly acceptable. It will give me a passtime and a little pocket money of my own once I settle down with a nice boy of proper breeding. But if I want a pokemon, I should just ask Papa to buy it for me, or maybe ask a boy who wants to court me to bring me one as a gift of interest. At most, I might ask to be sent to a pokemon academy, a nice girl's school where I would learn both manners and caring for my pokemon." Shina stops abruptly, visibly fighting down her frustrated anger.

Jenn had just finished helping a villager hold up a board for reconstructing something or another, but she could only apply so much strength from her right arm before it began to pain her. "Sorry." She excused herself as someone relieved her and clenched her arm, trying to cut off the pain from her burned arm.

Sir, her rental, and only, pokemon nudged her shoulder, snorting his concern. She waved a hand to show him she was fine. The ponyta had guilt chewing on his heart whenever he saw her pain. She'd taken the shot for him, after all. The energy had left a deep burn on her arm, but it would heal eventually.

Jenn started off in the direction which could generally lead to anywhere in town. Sir trailed after him, his eyes full of what looked like unshed tears. The would-be trainer suddenly turned to him, a pained smile on her face. She brushed away the start of a tear from the flaming horse's muzzle, and whispered something to him. "I don't regret what I did, you know. So don't cry, okay? You're my strong Sir, remember?" She patted his face again, and motioned that they should keep moving.

He nodded, and they eventually crossed onto the path of the poke'center. She saw someone out in front, with a spaced, blank look Jenn had seen on so many people over the past days. On impluse, she walked over to the girl, who just so happened to to be holding a swablu from eariler on the adventure, and stopped nearby her. "Do you need any help?"

Alex, shook her head, "I don't understand that kind of...of...." She floundered, not knowing what to call the phenomenon of wealthy logic.

"Why not just, stay away? You don't have to go home do you?"

User Image Anise twitched at the sudden voice and blinked as her eyes focused on the girl who'd spoken. "No, I'm fine..." she said a little shakily. Halcyon chirped disapprovingly, as if to contradict her. "Well, I will be, anyway," she amended. "It's just, my Delcatty..." She trailed off as she gestured vaguely to the building behind her where Felix was resting.

Belatedly she noticed the other girl had a bandage tied to her her arm, and seemed to be favoring it a bit. "Oh, but what about you? Are you ok?"

@Raieth

"I don't have to go home if I don't want to, but I don't have to stay away either. Papa's always been considered 'indulgent' where I'm concerned. When I refused to back down, the head of the guards took my side and convinced Papa to let me travel. I won't be trapped if I return. Papa lets me interact with the guards more than most would consider appropriate. They've taught me a little basic self defense, first aid, and how to survive in the woods."

Shina's unhappy expression is interrupted by a sudden fit of giggles. "In fact, my 'graduation' exercise for my survival skills was being dropped off twenty miles from nowhere with a pack and an emergency tracker with a panic button. I walked back to the nearest town, and rented a ponyta to ride the rest of the way home. Took me an entire week."

Shina sighs and the smile drops away. "I was late arriving for the caravan because Papa refused to let me come at first. It turns out he had been listening to Mrs. Elcarl, one of the worst of the proper wives. She had been telling Papa that I didn't really understand what the trip would be like, that it would be far too difficult for such nice girl like me. She suggested having him surprise me with an eevee and a semester at Arissia Academy for Young Ladies, one of those proper pokemon academies, and having her son gift me an eevee of the opposite gender of my own upon my return."

Shina raises a cynical eyebrow as she shares the final tidbit. "The Elcarl's are from a very nice, very old family, but this last generation has been a little careless with their money. Joining our families would combine Papa's money and business with the very old blood elite. A good match for everyone, right? When I pointed this out to Papa, and told him that I wanted no part in the academy or the Elcarls, Papa gave in and let me come."

Jenn's eyebrows rose a bit at her statement that she was fine. Then she realized she'd seen this girl running around during all of the problems and trying to help with her Delcatty by having the feline use Assist. "Oh, um, your Delcatty. It was Felix, right? He was the one who used Assist or Helping Hand a lot? What happened to him?" She asked, her hand moving to Sir's back. The ponyta looked away, ashamed when the other girl brought up the wound Jenn had taken for him.

"Oh, this? It's just a burn. You know, crazy Hyperbeams and Aura Spheres flying everywhere and all. I'm surprised I got away with such minimal injuries, you know?" Jenn shrugged with a grin, but it ut contorted a bit as the strain passed through her burned arm. Sir let out a low whimper of a whinny. "Oh, Sir, I told you that it was fine. I'll be okay, you silly combusting horse." She batted his nose playfully as he sniffed at her shoulder.

@Trira

User Image Seeing the other girl wince made Anise's healer experience kicked in. "Still, if your arm hurts, we can get you something for it. I'm out of my own medicines, but a shipment of relief supplies came in from Katarina earlier..." She started to reach out a hand to place on the girl's shoulder and lead her into the Pokemon Center, but stopped, worried that it might seem to forward.

She would have preferred to avoid thinking about the questions about Felix, but she had been taught that not answering someone was rude. With an effort, she said, "Yes, that's him. He...he's not badly hurt, all things considered, just burns and a broken leg, but..." She hugged Halcyon close, making the bird chirp in alarm as tears welled up in her eyes again. "I couldn't...I never trained him, so in the battle..I never wanted to hurt anyone..." She stopped abruptly, afraid that if she tried to say anything more she'd start crying.

Jenn was surprised when the girl seemed to snap out of her sorrow for a moment, telling her there was supplies and all inside. Jenn let herself be led, almost laughing. When the girl stopped, Jenn looked at her and grinned, "Well, if it won't both you or anything. I think it's fine and all. Only hurts when i really move it or, you know, smack it with something." She tried to explain. Sir followed, trying not to completely air his relief that someone was taking care of his rental trainer.

As the girl stopped, Jenn realized how much it must have pained her to have to start talking about Felix. "Oh, um, er, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to have to bring up a sensitive topic." She had a slight idea form in her mind, and quickly aired it to the apparently healer. "Well, how about this; You help my arm-shoulder situation, and you can use the other one to cry on? Eh? I'm a good listener if you want to vent." Jenn offered as she saw the other girl's emotions surfacing. Jenn decided that she should probably get introductions out of the way. "I'm Jenn, by the way, and that's Sir. You're...Anise, right?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 10, 2010 12:02 am

@Trira

User Image Sniffling, Anise looked up at Jenn's face. "Yeah, I'm Anise...And this is Halcyon," she said, gesturing to the Swablu in her arms. Although she knew very little about human medicine and less about psychology, she did know that bottling up emotions wasn't healthy, and talking about them could help them heal. And having something do to would make her feel better.

Wiping her eyes on her sleeve, she said, "That sounds like a good idea...Come on, let's get you taken care of." She lead Jenn into the Pokemon Center, where she found some medicines and fresh bandages, and started cleaning off the burn. As she worked, she kept up a stream of meaningless chatter about what she was doing in a soothing tone of voice, a habit picked up from tending to skittish injured pokemon. She gently smoothed a salve over it to ease the pain and help it heal, trying to put as little pressure on the wound. Then she wrapped it in a clean bandage and fixed it in place.

With nothing left to do, that meant it was time to take Jenn up on her offer to talk about what was bothering her. But Anise didn't know where to start. So silently she led the way back to Felix, who was still lying on his blanket on the floor of the overcrowded Pokemon Center. She sat down beside him, staring at the Delcatty while she tried to summon the voice that seemed to suddenly have fled.

@Mewrose

Jenn followed after Anise, kind of proud of herself for remembering her from the caravans. The would-be trainer went into the pokemon center and had a seat where ever Anise pointed for her to go. Sir, after some beckoning, trailed inside to watch over his rental trainer.

Jenn watched the young healer as she went about cleaing up her upper arm from it's burn. She had to smile as the girl explained everything she was performing in a soothing tone Jenn bet she used with pokemon. Soon, her arm was wrapped up as good as new, and it felt much better too. Sure, she'd had it looked at right after the battles, but there'd been so many more important wounds to look over that she'd told them in was fine until more supplies came in.

Jenn simply stood when Anise beckoned for her to move on, and began to follow the girl down the crowded areas to where her pokemon was, and Sir nudged her shoulder, meaning that he thought he shouldn't take up so much valuable space. He patted his snout, and held up his pokeball. He nudged it and returned inside so others that were hurt could use the area.

Jenn found the delcatty, which didn't look to be in that much pain, and the black-haired girl found herself sitting down at Anise's side, ready to provide support. "If you want to talk about it, you can, but if you just want to cry, I have a shoulder ready. Whatever you want to do." She said, giving the girl a comforting smile.
