frost-forever yeah! i'm a flute/piccolo player. there aren't many of us...kinda sad crying i love my instrument, i wouldn't trade it for the world. however, my flute (which i bought used about 3 years ago) is not giving off the same crisp sound as it used to. any help? Take it to your local music store and give it a check up. It probable needs new pads. They will also check the springs. Good Luck to you!!

musicmaker01 blue_eyed_blonde8 musicmaker01 blue_eyed_blonde8 i play an open-holed flute...its pretty awesome.i argue with many people whether flute is the best instrument or not...but i truly belive it is. mrgreen I wish I had started out on an open-holed flute but my band director did not require it. The sound is much clearer. Also, one can't hardly go from closed to open after one has been playing for a while. I tried it and i just can't do it. My flute is open-holed but it has the plugs. I try practicing with them out but as a general rule I play with the plugs in. Good luck!!! yea,it was really hard at first but ive been playing it about a year or more now and it got a lot easier...i even march with it in field band and street band.try practicing without the plugs even more at home so that you can get used to it even if it sounds like crap.you might not like it but it will get easier.i dont even notice that theres holes anymore.so thats what i did.well i hope you can get better too! I will try to practice more with them out but we are going through SO much music right now that I need for it to be perfect!!!! Know what i mean!! I hardly have the time to practice just for the fun of it. yea i totally understand what you mean there.right now were sight reading a bunch of stuff and its really easy b/c im still stuck in concert band and the freshman suck this year.well most.im a sophmore.

I understand where you guys are coming from. The freshman in the band at my school are terrible too. Like our marching band next year is going to need a miracle.. most the good instrument players period are seniors this year... which means next year they wont be here. Im seriously scared.
I have an open-holed flute as well, and particularly I play with the holes plugged, because Im still learning to play without them and Ive had the flute for almost 2 years now... I try playing it though. I truly do.... >.<

I play the flute! I am first flute in my band, and I am in Junior Jazz Band for flute section too, but it is kind of weird being a woodwind in Jazz Band.

Flutes are fantastic jazz instruments. I wish my BD would let them in the Jazz Band... but no, I had to learn trumpet to get in... XD

I play flute! (Obviously) I've been playing for 5 years now. I'm in a school of the arts. I had to audition to get it. This year I am/was in pit band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, senior band, and I'm going to be starting a flute choir at the beginning of April. My favorite peice is Prelude from Suite no.1, which you can naturally find by clicking the link. I play pic too, and I've taken up oboe, sax and other... But none were HALF as cool as the flute.
