looking at Gendis artemis said "Well you can do three things. One, you can step up and take chage...but that can cause problems as you will most likly be brought up on charges buy our commanind officer. Two, you can sit tight and follow orders trying not to get killed and only speaking up when the mission is in danger of going critical. Three, you can get the hell out of the air corps, although I know...or at leqast hope...that no one in this room would take that option." He ticked the options off on his fingers as he spoke. Then turning to Orrin and Zendia he said "I know to suspect that any thing and everything can and most likly will go wrong, Ive lived by that idea for years, but I also expect to be in formed of information like the fack that there are THREE ISD's within 30 min.s of a target! all the skill, luck, and prep in the galaxy can't stop the lack of information like that from causeing a complete and total disaster!" Then directing his voice at Zendia "I belive you are talking about AT-AT's, and that wouldn't have changed the mission at all. They may scare the sith out of our gound-pounging counterparts, but they pose very little threat to starfighters."

"None of you guys knew a single thing, spitrag. You can boast how you "know how to suspect the unexpected", but you don't. None of you know a single damned thing. You can blame your failure on your squadron commander, or you can blame it upon yourself. Either way, the outcome is the same. The only difference is how much you want to be kicking yourself. You stupid gits just don't get it. Intel will never be, to the day I die, be accurate. Information can be faulty, and traitors could be posting our every damnable movement on the holonet. Sometimes you'll have to learn how to keep your a** alive to make sure you still have a place for your tail to tuck. It doesn't matter to me, seeing as how I'm on active flight again, I'll be stuck at the a** end of your gay a** flight. I, however, am not going to listen to a bunch of whiney bastards who couldn't even find their way out of a cheeze box. Life sucks, boys and girls, and in my thirty plus years of livin' in this galaxy, those two words are the only thing that's a constant," Orrin snapped at everyone.

"AS for your little "command" problem, you have the option of handling it, or not. Squirt's a bit young for holding a command position, but that doesn't mean a thing. You have to feel comfortable with your leader, which I hope that's why you chose him. You can also kick him out of that role, and pick someone else if you feel so threatened by his youth or wisdom... aka lack thereof. I personally think he's doing his job, and though you might have the nerve to talk trash around him and to his face, I'm not the one in this situation. I don't care, as I said, I'm a new arrival to the team. The vote is either impeachment, or let him be."

Gendis couldn't remember being this angry in a long time. "For your information, I didn't choose him. I was dumped here by some guy who said he could get me a job fighting the Empire. I thought we'd at least be working with people who knew ways of attacking formations, ways that didn't involve 'total suicide' as a description of the maneuver. I know it was just a sim, but it's damn lucky that that's all it was, or we'd most likely be dead." He took a deep breath. "With that in mind, how can I possibly have any confidence in their leading abilities when it comes to actual battle? When the threat of death is real, and not just a program? I don't want to see anymore goddamn pilots getting killed because of the stupidity of others."

After that outburst, and realizing just what he'd said, he calmed down a little.

Logar took a sip of water from one of his ever-present bottles. "You both have good points. The sea of space we fight in can be treacherous, and predators often come up behind us out of the deep. Intel is rarely reliable, and we always have to be prepared for anything. But our downfall in that sim was our inability to decide on a course of action before we all got shot to pieces. The sort of leadership needed to make decisions in that sort of situation only comes with experience. Unfortunately, none of us are experienced pilots. With that in mind, I think we should be flying more sims, but for now, I need a break. If you all will excuse me." The pilot left the room, heading for his bunk, his droid Gauntlet trailing after him.

((Excuse my lame Mon Calamari water analogies. Oh, and I'll be gone at band camp this week, so that's the last you'll hear from Logar for a while. See you all in a week!))

"You chose him the day you signed up. If you are sitting here whining about incompetence, then you step up to the post... And take it. It's not necessarily anything you have done, but what you will do. The future is unpredictable. Get used to it. But at the rate you're going, you're no better than the one whom you can't admit to choosing."

Gendis shrugged. He'd done all the yelling he needed to for a while. "I'd gladly take command. I actually do have a lot of experience, and I don't know about the rest of you, but I have actually had to get past many Imp Star Destroyers and Carrack Cruisers, and plenty of ties."

"Sure. Except you can't run from them anymore. You have to instead take them down. Not to mention, you'd have to show everyoen you're more capable."

(( Allrighty, enjoy band camp! ^^ ))

Zendia's eyes darted back and forth between the two men, and she took what Logar said into account. "He's right, you know," she mused, gesturing towards the Mon Cal. She then glanced at Orrin. "Of course, we can't always run. Still, it's good to prepare for as many eventualities as possible."
Taking a sip of stim-tea before continuing on, she added, "And, a small squadron of fighters is ill equipped to take on Star Destroyers." Looking to the men, she asked, "With that in mind, has anyone a plan to counter that?"

Gendis nodded at her. "I agree with you, a small squadron of slower-than-sith Y-Wings will get us nowhere against a Star Destroyer, or two, or three, with it or their complements of fighters and gunboats. In that situation, where we're against SDs, the best strategy is to forgo weapons and power shields and engines, and shoot for the blind spots of the SDs. If they attack us head on, we're not to be distracted by their turbolasers; they're too slow anyway. Laser and ion cannons, and missile launchers, will be our worst enemy. If we slow down, the turbolasers will become enemies too, so moving to an attack speed and attempting to take any emplacements out is suicide."

He considered a moment. "If we were to attack an SD, we would of course need gunboats. In that instance, our duty would be escort. The 'boats could take over the heavy hitting. Our main job would be dodging lasers and smashing ties. Since ties require a lot of maneuvering on the part of their attacker, and for the SD's fear of friendly fire (though I doubt that is the main concern of the Empire), dodging lasers and ion cannons shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'd order extra countermeasures loaded on the fighters, just in case, although with all the ties, we could be lucky enough to goad the missiles into following the signatures of ties, unless their recognition is based on profile, rather than heat. ((i can't remember what it is, not 'profile,' but i'll say that for now)). To be prepared, I'd have the countermeasures armed.

"We would of course keep the ties off the backs of the gunboats with three groups, though the number of groups would be dependant on the number of 'boats. The remaining group would attack turbolaser emplacements that threatened the mission. They would of course draw energy to weapons and shields, mainly. They could also destroy the shield generators, probably with torpedoes, if the chance arose, otherwise that would be left to the gunboats. Once the shields are destroyed, the fighters would aid the 'boats in hitting the SD, or remain on anti-fighter and battery destruction deatil, flexable as the situation permitted.

"If we manage to attack it from behind, we would of course join firepower to take out the shield generators with torpedoes, and proceed to take out the bridge. With that destroyed, we would proceed to the underside to eliminate the ventral reactor and hit the bays, taking out fighters on the way. This strategy could of course be conducted without blastboats."

He scratched his chin. "That is of course, a couple simple plans of attack that I just thought of now. With more information, they could easily be streamlined, and I didn't get into small details like complete payloads and such."

"One thing kid. You plan like you're intelligence. And all those which you have just now stated all have one hitch: inprobability. But, before we get fiercer than the conflict which we will inevitably create, I suggest we get to the real point. When I programmed this in, I wanted to see how the squad would react. And now I see that we need to one way or another get our act together. And I just came back from the tap..."

Gendis laughed, finally smiling again. "Yes, we certainly need to get our act together, and I suppose the sim was successful in revealing that."

"At least we're agreed on that." Orrin still felt bitter about being on the last group. "I don't know how to fix that, but it must be done soon enough."

"I think more sim training, as someone suggested, would be good, but, and I know this sounds corny, also working on teamwork-building strategies... It seems we have plenty of free time here, so I doubt performing those will require so much of us that we'll be missed."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:07 am

"You can't force teamwork. screwing around in the sims won't do any good, and the other activites are useless. But, do as you will..."
