Yeah, apparently, but I like anime so much better than manga, I can't stand to read when there's an anime out x.x;

xD i perfer to read the manga than the anime because usually there is more to the manga than the anime, better storyline. =P There is only one anime that i found better than the manga. o.0
But the color! The movement! The voice acting! The music! Anime just moves my soul in a way manga can't o-o;
xD But if you use your mind manga can become more alive than a anime can! =o
e.e better storyline is always better..

Gurren Lagann had all the potential to be my favorite anime, but after a certain main character died it lost its wonder. And as much as some of the stuff after the time jump was awesome, I think the show should have concentrated on the first half and dropped the second half entirely.

Umm, most of the people I know who've seen the show agree entirely. Gainax didn't realize that they had a near perfect anime going at the beginning. The primary tropes were post-apocalyptic world and giant robots, and while those two are very common in anime, they work perfectly together, and on top of the humor and the amazing characters.... Instead they tried to do all that dramatic bullshit. Honestly, I would have forgiven the whole show if {spoiler}Nia and Kittan{/spoiler} had lived. However, Gainax, being the ******** that they are, didn't know what kind of show they were making, and practically ruined it. I probably won't ever watch it again. It's too depressing, especially given how amazingly it started.

There are so many people that love it where I live, they find it ridiculously epic, and love how fast it escalated e.e;

I agree with you 100%, Gainax usually doesn't know what they're doing, but it's their style, and they lucked out a lot with NGE

I haven't seen the anime you're referring to...but I hate when things move fast. Much like bleach and or dragonball z. People become 'the best' only to find out there's someone 20 times stronger a few episodes later...and it occurs multiple times in the same series. It makes awful plot development. D:

I didn't like NGE either. The ending, including the End of Eva, was just retarded. It couldn't be taken seriously. It didn't mash with the rest of the show. It didn't make any sense. It was filled full of shallow allusion that hinted at no deeper meaning, and any deeper many people claim it has is simply grasping at straws. Deeper meaning comes from the unified whole of a piece of work. What happened at the end of Evangelion came out of nowhere and deserves only ridicule for it's shallow and failed attempt at art.

Sorry BB, I gotta stop you there, EVA being my favorite anime e.e;

I agree that most people can barely claim that it has deeper meaning.

But I found it, amongst the chaos, and watching the show again, one can see how it all leads up to that ending, the point was to make an unpredictable ending, which they did. The theme is very vague, and it's quite the challenge for most people to grasp it.

I'm not saying your analytical skills are not up to par, but I ask you, did you relate to any character at all?

If you didn't, then there's no way you can understand NGE o.o;

The end of a story should not be "unpredictable". NGE is what TVTropes calls "Diablos ex machina", where everything goes to s**t because of events that are not hinted at by the story. This is rather literal in NGE, as Unit 01 turns into the devil (then the world tree, then a technicolor ball; don't even try to justify all that s**t)

The ending of a good story is surprising but inevitable. It should take the audience by surprise, but make perfect sense within the context of the story. NGE... well, the writer had an emotional breakdown in the middle of the series. Not much more explanation is necessary.

It all has to do with Babylonian mythology and ancient kabbalah beliefs. Unit 01 turns into Lilith, because it's the only one that was based off Lilith (Lilith being adam's first wife that ran away into hell after almost being raped) hence she looks like a demon. Next it turns into the tree of life, the process of it being very sexual (Lance of Longinus representing phallic imagery) representing life, they mention Lilith having both knowledge and the tree, shinji, being a human probably representing the fruit of knowledge. I'm not sure exacly what you mean by technicolor ball o.o;

I've listened to the commentaries, I've done my research, and I related to every single character in there.

I said that if you re-watch it, it does hint at the ending, you can see how it all led up to that ending, but most people don't look at those details when they first watch it.

If you're just attacking it's structure when it comes to storyline, I agree that they didn't follow traditional standards, but that's what makes it stand out, I enjoyed that very much, and hate towards it only because of its structure is only due to a closed mind when looking at anime.

So I'm guessing you didn't relate to any character, did you? o-o;

So it's based on babylonian mythology AND has unhealthy doses of Christian imagery? I'm crying fowl. It's hollow, it's shallow, it's meaningless. It's surface allusion, showcasing nothing but the writer's ability to slam together disjointed, hardly related religious symbols because he can't think of a proper ending. One word: tang. Human beings turn into tang.

And let's get into some other things that make it shallow. If the angels are other possibilities that humans could have become, why don't they look like primates? With these creatures being what they are, it completely disregards the actual roots human beings have, and all the evolutionary and biological elements that actual make us human. These monsters don't have psychological relevance because they don't actually represent us; they're nothing more than nifty designs and cool challenges for what starts off essentially as a monster of the week series.

The only part I found even remotely personal was the bicuriosity implied in Shinji's relationship with Kaworu. Everyone (Shinji included, save that one interesting aspect) was nothing more than a character archetype with single important backstory elements bumping against each other in an unbelievable and shallow giant robot drama.
