Glaring back, Zahneel quirked a brow at the Elder's anger.
"Oh, I'm sorry," her voice dripped sarcasm. "How dare I think that someone who uses innocent little animals as projectile weapons is acting monstrous. And what about naiads and kirin? I have a couple in my classes at the Academy. You know, that school we're all making up just because you've never heard of it in spite of you all knowing so much about the doings of the world outside your stupid forest."
Ears twitching, she'd caught murmurs about children and families and ground her teeth.
"You're no better than the people you're accusing us of being. You're willing to create orphans and destroy families because you're all too hidebound and paranoid to listen to truth."
Turning slightly, she reached out a hand to Neptune and laid the other gently on Tomoe's arm.
"I'm not letting you hurt or traumatize my friends because you'd rather assume the worst," she said softly. "No one did anything to the Grimm. No one sent a plague after us. Just because you don't want to believe something doesn't make it a lie."

"I.. I don't think it is. Going to be alright." Callixtus sucked in a few breaths. His chest and throat felt too tight. It was hard to get enough air. He pulled his knees to his chest, wrapping his arms around his ankles. "W-We might be together, but they want to have us m- murdered. They don't care about us, they think we're a threat. I s-shouldn't have come, I should have stayed home! I shouldn't be here! I'm just an artist. This was stupid." "L-Leave her alone!" He yelled as he glared up at the elder as he yelled at his friend. The anger fell out of his gaze as quickly as it came; he was too tired, too overwhelmed, too panicked. "S-she's still just a kid. We're all... scared, tired, and angry and trying to come up with ideas. So sorry she came up with an idea you didn't like. And I mean it's not like you threatened to have her killed or anything, right? T-that's just pleasantries or something, right?" He said with a slight giggle, hysteria getting the better of him. "Just another day, go ahead and kill some children just because they said something you don't like, that's how it goes inside the barrier!"

Bibiana didn't even have words for how mean and cruel these Nightmares were being! Tomoe had only wanted help looking for the kids! The look she was sending the Elders was one of shocked indignation. How could they? She had seen someone else do this earlier, but now that he was condemned to death.... Bibi decided that Tomoe definitely needed a hug. With a glance at the two Nightmares she had been searching with, the bright pink Geist made her way over and hugged him around the shoulders. "It'll be okay," she murmured. She wasn't exactly sure how it was going to be okay, but she was one hundred percent sure that it would be. Somehow. She hoped.
She didn't want to butt into the conversation with the Elders because she was pretty sure she wouldn't be able to help anything there. But the Priestess looked worried. Once she had let go of Tomoe with a comforting pat on the shoulder, she edged over to the pretty Priestess. "I don't mean to bother you because I know you're trying to put the barrier back up." Which was worrying to the Geist who had left all of her myriad familiars back at home. "But is there anything we could do to prove to the Elders we don't mean you any harm? We just want to go home now," she said as she wrung her hands a little. "I mean, it would be great if some of you came with us. There's been so many races popping up lately, you guys would fit right in!" she smiled at that idea; making friends always brightened her up. "But you don't have to! Of course, it would totally be your choice. But everyone back at home would welcome you, I'm so sure!!"Yushika For Tomoe and the Priestess ouo

Oh Nine. OH NINE this was going downhill in a speed wagon faster than Neptune could keep up with. The grimm whimpered softly, remaining in place near Zahneel and Tomoe as everyone shouted, chattered, or spoke in various tones. Oh, he wanted to go home. He needed to go home. Zahneel just seemed to make one of them angry... He reached out to try and take one of her hands. "Z-Zahneel, ple--please-- don't-- they're j-j-j-just going to g-g-get really m-mad-- please... I kn-know its not r-r-right but-- we ha--have to think of-- ev--everyone else t-too." He stammered, barely able to form a semblance of a coherent sentence as he tried to get his point across.
"Th--the Grimm h-h-had the Sleeping S-Sickness, it-- it wasn't a-anything that a-a-anyone did to us. It j-j-just happened. B-but there was the c-ca-cache-- uh... th-that's where I'm fr-from-- aa-and... and.." He trailed off, shaking so much he was sure it was very visible to everyone who looked.... "A-and there's a-a tribe th-that's still a-a-around-- the Ni--Nixie took th-th-them in-- it's ok-okay now. W-w-we all ma--made up. Thi--things are ge---getting better. S-Since So--Solstice we-we've had tra--travel and... And it's ok--okay." He nodded, hoping he was making sense. At least some sense. Oh... why this....

Nine help them. She couldn't blame others for panicking, but doing so by raging at their captors was just going to get them killed sooner. Someone needed to be rational, and so she nominated herself to try. She certainly couldn't make things any worse at this point.
She gave T'kani a firm hug and moved to stand. Taking a deep breath, she turned to the elders. "We are all afraid." She said. "We are panicking, and we are not calm. Can you blame us? We're not fighters, and we've never seen war. Would we be here if there was a war? No, because we'd be fighting or we'd be dead. We certainly wouldn't be here together, friends and lovers. Family. We don't want your land, and I for one am willing to leave you to yourselves if you want to be isolated."
Her gaze fell on Tomoe, and then she looked back at the elders. "Please let us go, and send Tomoe with us. Banish him, if that's what you want to call it. We won't lead anyone back to you. If a people want to stay isolated, then that should be respected. We haven't forced anyone to go to the Academy, to join our schools. I'm from Above, where the sun shines. People like me will die here without our sunstones, or our moonstones. We're afraid. We're young. We came here on an adventure, and we didn't know we were intruding. There's no markers, no signs. Just a mystery. So let us go, and the only thing we'll tell is that this place shouldn't be intruded upon. To leave the people here alone, like they want."

Niamh lowered her head for a long moment, taking in slow, deep breaths, and considering the words of everyone, before she would speak again, in a calm tone now. It was so HARD, sometimes, to keep her temper when people were being rude or cruel these days. Ugh, she missed being a freshling sometimes, ever since she became a junior she was just so... prone to mood swings. She sighed, looked up, and spoke. "Look at this group, this mixed group of races. Over here we have demons, and there an Elf... The very races that were at the heart of the war, if you think about it. And yet they stand here, peacefully coexisting because we have created a LASTING peace, and we want good things for everyone. There are Kirin and Naiad at our schools... I know a some one who is a kirin/grimm hybrid! We've gotten along so well, our peoples are mingling, and finding love amongst each other. Peace is healthier then isolationism, and hurting those of our own kin." She paused, and eyed the many tails, and added "Also, I can't help wondering... why do you all have seven tails, and poor Tomoe only two?" Part of her wondered if he was a victim of being considered LESSER because of his tails.Tangled Puppet So you know what she's doing!

Again, again with the insistence that it was okay for Tomoe to have even let down the barrier in the first place. They were not understanding- could they even understand? They were so dense. They could not stop for a moment to think outside of themselves and what this meant for the people living in this forest. Setting aside the threat of war, diseases could be passed- traditions taken and destroyed... No, it was not worth the risk. The slight possibility that their return to the outside world would not end in death or, perhaps, extinction.
They spoke of people getting along - of ties being mended, their mixed group being "proof" that things were somehow better now and would not blow up again. As if tensions did not ever rise again. As if newfound pacts were not fragile and easily broken. As if introducing another group of people would not strain the balance to a point where it may break. They were better off alone in the long run. They all knew this.
"Your service in tracking down Naoki and Meimu has not gone unnoticed, as Ayame has stated." They listened as Ayame spoke, their own anger ebbing and flowing with each burst from their companion. Though they managed to stay calm on the outside unlike Ayame... most of the time. Their tails were steadily twitching more with irritation as each outsider gave the same excuse over and over again. Had they not been clear in their responses before?
Nagoro turned their attention to Niamh, eyes narrowed. "You are a child, and I have excused your insolence because of it, but you would do well to think before you speak. You do not know that he was predestined to fail the test. You do not know the rules, guidelines, or outcomes of said test. Cease discussion of it immediately." They hissed slightly, and turned their attention to Aurora.
Though, Ayame had said quite enough there. They felt no need to add to the retort Ayame had given her. As Samhain spoke again, the twitching in their tails died down. Bakeneko, Naga... They did not know what either of those people were - but if these people were to believed, they were also isolated races that had been brought into the outside world with welcomed arms. This was something to consider...but they would need time. This... this was not something that would grant them time.
As Mahuyah spoke, they seemed to still even more, teal eyes focused on the Nixie as she spoke to them. They did not know what she was - but from the sound of it, she was not a Bakeneko or a Naga. Was she some sort of Naiad? No... her tail was too short - her fins were not right... She was something new- something they didn't know about before. "Yet he is the only Elf in your group." Nagoro glanced over to Callixtus again, just in time for the elf to make a jab at their willingness to kill.
"We do not threaten to kill you for pleasure. I loathe to have to consider ending the lives of children, however we do this out of necessity. You are posing a threat to the safety of our very existence. It is better to remove the threat, than let it fester and bring about even more death." They sighed, turning their gaze away as Callixtus began to falter into panic.
Turning to Zahneel, the Elder's ears pinned back against their silver-haired head, tails flicking in rising anger as she snarled at them. "I have already stated that it does not matter that you yourselves are not troops. Letting you flee into the world you came from is as good as an invitation for invasion. Unwanted trespassers traipsing through our forests - contaminating our ecosystem... It is not in our best interest to open our barrier." They were about to move on when Zahneel targeted Meimu.
In addition to Ayame stepping in, Nagoro's seven tails flared to life, appearing to make them almost triple in size with how large they were. "You would do well to refer to my grandson with more respect. Tomoe allowed intruders into our homeland and he did what he needed to do to remove you from it. It is not his fault you were all too stupid to leave when you were attacked." They snarled back in return, voice laced with a low growl as their eyes narrowed dangerously. This was not acceptable.
Meimu peered out from behind both Elders, visible eye locked on Zahneel. He simply blinked at her, seeming unperturbed by her insult.
Nagoro seemed to calm - just barely - once more when Bebe spoke up. Ah- so that explained why she looked so strange for a Grimm. She wasn't one. "We are Kumiho." They stated flatly, not really expecting any of them to know what they were. It had been at least 150 years since they disappeared from the wider world. "They must not have taught you much history of the Above yet. Elves have long since made this place hostile - wars have ravaged Above for many centuries. On and off, yes, but always recurring. When the war started with Below, we decided that enough was enough and closed our barrier to protect our people. It has held this entire time." Apparently the opportunity to explain things seemed to calm Nagoro more - it gave them something to focus on.
"It is refreshing that you can see where we are coming from. You are wise for a young one. We know that it is not your fault that you are here- Tomoe has brought you into a situation that you otherwise would not have been in if he had simply left the barrier alone." They spared another glance at Tomoe, a small frown on their face as they did so.
Turning to Nadinia, they continued to frown. "Kirin were well known doctors even before the war, and we were well aware of their association with Dryad and Fey. It is news to us that the Naiad have returned - though I do not see any among you." They seemed skeptical at that, body language shifting just slightly from defensive to unsure.
Again Zahneel spoke up, with sarcasm so thick it made Nagoro puff up again- though not entirely like before. They turned their gaze to her, frown set deep in their expression. They didn't bother responding to her though, she was nothing worth speaking to so long as she continued to speak so rudely. Callixtus earned himself a scathing look, though nothing more from the Elder.
"Since Solstice." They repeated, eyes now on Neptune. The Grimm was so shaken he seemed to have trouble speaking - Nagoro almost felt pity for him but pity would do no good in this situation. "So it is still a new alliance, unsteady and potentially breakable by too many disturbances."
They turned their gaze to Naosu, squinting just slightly as she spoke. "We are still in Above, Fey. The sun still shines here, it is simply nightfall and our Barrier provides extra darkness because we wish it to. You would not die here from lack of sunlight. We cannot banish Tomoe, his very appearance is strikingly different from all of your own, questions would be asked perhaps far more intently than if you were to disappear. People know this forest does strange things."
They turned their attention back to Niamh, giving her a long considering look. "The more tails a Kumiho has, the more powerful their magic is." They stated flatly, giving no real indication for why Tomoe only had two while the others in the area had more.

Tomoe hadn't expected the others to stand up for him. Certainly not when it was his fault this was happening. He had let them in, and it was his fault the Elder's found them. Why were they defending him when, if it wasn't for him, they'd probably be back wherever they came from already?
His ears flattened, brain finally kicking out of fear mode and allowing him to listen in. His hands raised nervously, body tensing as Bibiana came forward to hug him. 'It'll be okay.' But it wouldn't be. This was all his fault. He was the reason she was here. If he had only left the barrier alone....
The Priestess had been busy with the barrier. She had watched with concern from her area, occasionally even tensing whenever Tomoe was mentioned. When Bibiana approached she had been watching Tomoe, ears back slightly while she kept her hands raised to focus on the barrier. Surprised, the woman smiled faintly at the pink child.
"It is not a bother." The Priestess assured, nodding towards her hands. "I can do both." She added off hand, as if to remind herself she had a duty to do on top of conversing.
At the question the woman frowned, head raising to look at Tomoe. "I'm not sure," She began softly, giving an apologetic smile. "The Elders have been protecting the villages for years. We've been told about the years before the war, and the events that led to our hiding. Convincing them might be difficult." Her eyes stayed trained on Tomoe, as if she was watching over him from her post. "However, I've noticed you have members in your group who look of mixed descent. What we've been told was back before the war, the world would have treated such people with hostility. Perhaps show them how accepting the world is through the friendship your group has. I assume you're a friendly group?" She paused, again, sighing faintly.
"Besides, it'd be a lie to say those of my age didn't want to see the outside world. Being stuck within this forest is suffocating, and we're running out of room." She admitted, smiling softly at the teenager.
Perhaps the Priestess was on the groups side?

Of course they were in Above! Naosu could have slapped herself. Be good now. She told herself. Be calm. "Yes, of course we are. Excuse me. I've been Below for so long, and I'm so....frazzled by all of this...." She took a deep breath. "So if you are powerful, then can you take our memories of this place, then? Then you won't have to waste time and resources in murdering all of us simply for making a mistake." She clenched her fists and bowed her head. "Then you won't have to murder Tomoe for knowing he--for choosing to put his faith in outsiders to help him."
She took more deep breaths. "We came on an adventure. We came to have fun. We didn't come to intrude where we're not wanted. Until we met Tomoe, we didn't know this place was owned by your people. No one wants your land! Stay isolated. Clearly the barrier can't be broken without someone on the inside doing it. So letting us go doesn't endanger you, and as for Tomoe, we could call him a Hallowed Grimm. It's unlikely that would be questioned. You don't need to kill anybody!"

Bebe was chuffed that so many of her friends stood up for her, but she wasn't bothered when the elder had insulted her. After all, if you're too scared to fail because of bad ideas, how will you ever come up with good ones? Instead she focused on every slither of information the people - Kumiho, apparently - let slip. "That is fascinating! I can't believe you aren't in our history books," she said eagerly, soaking up the new knowledge like a sponge, so much so that she didn't realise that she had helped calm the situation, "I see what you mean about cyclical war, though. It does seem to always crop up, until two groups can form... ugh, what was the word.... symbiosis! Like we Bakeneko did with the Naga." She blushed when the elder complimented her; Bebe had never been called wise before. When they placed the blame on Tomoe, however, Bebe finally realised how dire his situation was. She bit her lip as tears started to form at the edges of her eyes, trying to blink them away since the elders clearly didn't like the others who had begun to break down. "Actually... actually, I don't think it is a situation we wouldn't have been in otherwise. We were so curious about the forest, I think... I think we would have gotten in by ourselves eventually. Not that you're magic isn't good enough, of course! It's just, we were all so persistent and eager and now... now we've completely disrupted your isolation. This is such a mess, I'm so sorry... what have we done?" The last comment was mumbled towards herself, furious at her unwavering eagerness earlier. Why didn't she stop and think of possible consequences? Of why no one had made it this far? Of course the barrier didn't just appear by itself, and of course the group responsible didn't want to be found!

Bridgette sighed and frowned. Talking to these elders didn't seem to be getting them any wheres. They were so set in their ways and maybe they had a right to be. She didn't know all of the histories as well as many did and so maybe they had a really good reason to be so upset or rigid. They were trying to protect their people, even if she thought their way and stupid and didn't agree with it. She listened to the elder and frowned more. She shook her head then turned to the woman. She looked at the woman she thought was a priestess and moved closer to her but still stayed close enough to Tomeo to try to keep him safe. She had seen the priestess soften a little bit and maybe it would work better if one of their own helped too. "I'm sorry priestess or ma'am I don't know what the proper term of respect is for you smoking your people but my name is Bridgette and in worried for me friends. Some of them have broken or sprained limbs and others have gotten stung by bees and still others might not be able to survive here. Is there anyway that you know of to try to get my friends and your elders to be able to talk and understand each other? We just wanted to help and now we just want to go home. I'm very sorry if we invaded your home. That wasn't out intention at all. We didn't know you were here and I'm sorry we trespassed but please we need help. And please don't let them kill Tomeo he was so scared for the children he just wanted the children to be safe. And we have young ones in our group too. They are so scared and we have people with children who are afraid they will never see them again. I'm begging you. Please… just please help us try to talk or give me some idea of what could help to make this encounter not end in disaster. We have welcomed new races and I would love for you or some of you to come with us but we won't force it. I wish you could see the outside world and learn about races that like you hid but now have come out and integrated into the society. We have co mingled and look at all the hybrids. If things were so bad do you think you would see so many?" She frowned not sure how to reach this woman. "I am sorry if I have been rude to you. I don't know your customs or what is seen as respectful in your society. I don't know anything about any of it and it would be nice to learn but I won't push anything. I just wish we could reach some sort of understanding or maybe something that could potentially be mutually beneficial to both your people and my friends." She rubbed her neck worried and looked at the priestess pleadingly. "At least let the children and those who won't survive here go. Maybe even those with young kids. Please." She looked at her pleadingly. "I don't want to see any of my friends harmed. I don't want to see anyone get hurt." she looked back at Aurora and Rei who she knew where both injured. She wanted to go over to them and make sure they were alright. She also wanted to help those who were on the floor unable to move from terror or who were having panick attacks.

Harley blinked, trying to comprehend what was going on around her. This.... this was unreal. Harley was trying to breath. Taking in the situation. It seemed like a dream. Her heart was racing. Where did they all come from? Why was this so serious? She stopped listening. She was panicking. She tried to hug herself for comfort but her golden, bony claws began to rip at her clothing, meeting soft flesh. Her ears pressed low and tight to her head as the other spoke around her. She was holding her breath. She couldn't bring herself to listen. This couldn't be happening. Her vision was getting darker. She needed to breath. Harley snapped back to her senses with a gasp of air. Tears were already streaming down her cheeks. There was an imposing elder with piercing ruby red eyes glowering at them all. They had already addressed some of the groups concerns. It didn't look to be working. The looks they gave were all she needed to know that they meant business. "This is where I die.... Her voice was just a sad whisper, probably drowned out by the others enraged by what was happening or trying to console other. She was ready to curl into a ball and close her eyes and wake up back in her room. She shouldn't have gone on this trip. The luck she experienced earlier looks to have run out. One ear shot up at the mention of Kirin. No kirin here? "W-wait!" The hybrid's voice quivered as she tried to address the red eyed elder. Her bright golden eyes couldn't meet his. "I..." She tried to steady herself through her tears. "I'm at least p-part Kirin." Her hands found themselves nervously ripping the bottom hem of her shirt. "There are plenty of Kirin and Naiads at the Academy. They aren't in hiding anymore!" Her shaky voice was growing raspy as she continued. "T-that should count for something, right?" She was unsure if her contribution would even help. She felt that maybe if she was a full Kirin it would contribute more to their cause. She felt useless. But she tried to persist. "My mother.... " She squirmed trying to keep from breaking down in tears. "My mother was full Kirin! They integrated into society. I would hope..." She paused a bit, trying to collect her thoughts. "I would hope that... Since I'm a hybrid myself... That will show that relations between Kirin and others are fine..." She was afraid. Speaking up meant that she would be addressed, but maybe it would have helped.

"Kumiho..." Coralie spoke quietly, wondering what wonders this race held. They seemed so magical, and so mysterious! She didn't know what to think about them. However, she knew killing was wrong, and that this group of creatures knew nothing of the current outside world ", You all seem to be afraid of the unknown though, beyond the forest you have been in for so long. The nixie did the same thing you did. They hid themselves away from everything beneath the water, from everyone. I know because I am a nixie. We were afraid that the outside world was still as cruel as we left it, that it was not accepting. However, we were proven wrong," She turned to her group and smiled at them all ", I consider all these people here my friends, and some of them have even become my best friends too. If I had decided to stay home out of fear, I never would of met them," she then turned back to the elders and the priestess ", I understand your fear, but I can promise you that the need for fear is no more. Even if you are not willing to open up to the world just yet, we will not tell anyone about you until you are ready. After all, you hid because you wanted to be safe, so why would we want to make you feel like you weren't safe by telling others about you? However, the world would be ready to welcome you back, to a world of peace. Coralie gave a nod to what Harley and Bridgette, hoping the Elders were beginning to understand ", We do not want trouble. All we have ever been taught is to accept everyone, that war is not needed to solve problems. You can talk everything out, especially when everyone has an open mind for figuring out what is best for everyone. War... we never want to go back to such a thing, and we never will."

Taking a deep breath, Rei braced herself to talk more. "I...am myself a...mix. And I have made...friends on this trip...that I would never think about...letting die." she shot a meaningful look at Aurora, Bridge and even to Naosu. As if to show her determination, she let her walking stick drop to the ground, wrapped her tail around her injured ankle as if to help brace it, and walked over to stand next to Aurora. The corners of her eyes were just starting to show a bit of moisture...and a single tear managed to roll down her cheek despite any real emotion being shown on her face. Ears remained flopped down, but her eyes stared unblinking at the elder that talked so much. "We do not....did not mean to...do what you say is a...disaster..." Nodding in Coralie's direction. "We want to...co-exist...Learn from each other...protect....each other..." Casting a meaningful glance over at the Priestess before finding that she couldn't continue, all her effort now going into not crumpling then and there from her injury and showing these strangers such a weakness.

“I have to object to Tomoe looking vastly different. He looks enough like a grimm that others who know nothing of your species would just assume he was like me and a hallowed grimm. We even share multiple tails.” He wiggled his tails somewhat to prove his point. “There are better punishments out there than death.” Even though he didn’t think that Tomoe should get any of those either. He had just been trying to help. He didn’t understand why the Kumiho hadn’t turned towards his own people for help, but considering what he had seen of the race so far Samhain really didn’t really blame him for turning to outside help. And then Harley spoke up and he wanted to go over to help her but he had done such a poor job last time he didn’t know what to do. He was trying so hard to keep his anger in check. They were causing both Harley and Callixtus to have meltdowns. His friends were injured and the stress would not help them at the moment, Harley was having an even bigger meltdown and nothing he said seemed to be helping any one. At this rate he was never going to see Lace again. He had been planning on proposing as soon as he got back from the trip. The ring was still on a box on his desk. What would she think when he never came home, and that was just sitting there. Useless. No he had to get everyone out of here. He had to do something. Everyone was going to be fine. He hadn’t survived his crappy a** childhood just to be stuck here away from his family. ‘Suck it up Samhain. You can do this. We’re going home and we’re marrying Lace.
