He decided against that one, and looked around until he found another one, some distance away from that gaping hellmouth. Yes. "That one will do nicely." He marched forward and raised his shield almost like a golf club, driving the monster through the air toward Rota. It didn't quite know what was happening, but it had the sense to bare its fangs and point them at Rota as it flew. Alyx wasn't too worried, though. Rota could surely survive one hit from a dazed and disoriented spider, if he wasn't able to dodge it. Rota stepped forward into the strike, switching the grip on his sword so that the flat of the blade was facing the arachnid aeronaut. "Are you ready to go back and check in with her?" They had done a lot so far, but Alyx felt that their time together for the day was about up. THE TRIALS HAVE CONCLUDEDName: Rota Level: 1 HP:21 Rota smiled as he shouldered his sword once more, satisfied in the work he did that day. He nodded "Yeah, it would probably be a good idea. She'll probably want to know as soon as possible that her children are safe at night once more." he cracked his neck and stretched a little bit. he was finally feeling the first signs of fatigue. He was happy that so early into his journey he had found a comrade. He just needed to assure he wouldn't remain in his shadow for very long. The Player reclined in his chair a bit. It took what felt like forever, but he and this other guy had done it. It did feel like an accomplishment to finish his first two quests, considering all of the information he had heard about this game was that it was brutal to the max, so he was glad he made it even this long. If internet rumor is to be believed, then he just killed ten more spiders than most ever do. Let alone the Boar. he was very satisfied in the choice of avatar he had made. He found himself less thinking about himself as a person, and more thinking in terms of Rota, almost that Rota was becoming a real part of him. like a part of him that never gets let loose, his subconscious desires made digital. In a way it felt weird to admit, but in another it was exhilarating. A persona that was much like him, but in many ways different. This game was like no other he had played. Rota finally limbered up and began following Alyx. "Well if I say no, then I'd be going back on what I said earlier, wouldn't I?" he said with a sly grin. "I'd welcome the opportunity"Current skills in use: current equipment:

((picking mushrooms
1-50= 1 mushroom 51-90= 2 mushrooms 91-100= 3 mushrooms))
Alyx had read up a bit on the forums, and had learned a little something; apparently there was an important quest he'd been missing. A skill that would allow him to harvest from mobs more effectively. He was all for that, and decided that today he would get that skill. The downside was that he had to do a couple of other quests before he unlocked the one in question; but that was alright. He actually already had the quest that he had to do next; he'd been given it when he'd picked up his woodcutter's axe, and he'd paid little attention to it. Well, he figured gathering skills were important, too, and went forth valiantly to pick mushrooms. He hadn't heard from Rota yet today, and decided that this was the best way to fill his time until then.

Alyx rooted through the undergrowth on his hands and knees, the soft dirt squishing between his fingers as he got tangled in the moss and that covered the ground. He came up with exactly one mushroom before he had to go and look in another place. This wasn't exactly the most exciting business, but if these mushrooms could be put to some greater use, he could see a point to it. And why would the devs give an entire skill to something that had no use besides making money? They wouldn't. They don't believe in that. So Alyx would gain a couple of points in gathering while he waited for his real quest to begin.

Another one! Alright. he just had to do this three more times and he'd be golden. He was having flashbacks to his days as a woodsman. God, he still had twenty-nine units of wood that he needed to convert into planks. Another time. He would probably become more motivated to build housing things once he was able to buy the land to build on. But for now, this was exciting enough. Something about getting down in the dirt was relaxing. Most of the gathering skills were like that, he felt. It was almost an entirely different game when you just sat back and worked the land instead of rushing around and battling evil all the time.

Alyx got another one, and smiled as he slipped it into his inventory. He only had two more and then he could go on the quest that really called to him. Sure, it wasn't going to be particularly challenging, but it would be rewarding. And that was just as good. Getting things was just as fun as the work that it took to earn them. Maybe even more so. I mean wasn't every game just about working hard to get to a reward, and maybe (sometimes, depending on the game quite rarely) enjoying yourself along the way? It was a way to escape, yes, and sometimes the work was more fun that real life, but it was still work, and the rewards made it all worth it.

Alyx only had one more that he needed, and his work would be done. That's good. He wasn't sure that rooting around in the dirt was really for him. Sure, some people may be into it, but he just felt more at home swinging an axe than he did digging through moss for mushrooms. He felt like he should be wearing an apron and gardening gloves, holding a trowel. He chuckled at the thought, because in his mind, he was still wearing his heavy armor with the pink flowered apron. He shook his head and began digging through the last gathering node he would need for this quest. He took a deep breath and felt for fungus gold.

Name: Suit Up! Questgiver: Tailor Prerequisites: None Objectives: 1 post, constructing a cloak from one bolt of cloth. Rewards 1 helmet (cloak), +1 roll2
The Player had had another rough day at work. He had stayed sane only due to the fact that he had ALICE to look forward to. Thoughts on how to advance in the game flashed through his head all day, and he could barely keep all of it straight. He finally decided on courses of action, and waited until he got home to execute them. He quickly ripped off his work clothes, got into his comfy lounging clothes, grabbed the pack of soda(not wanting to need to get up at any point during all of this) and booted up the world.
Rota woke up from a black-out. He didn't remember going to sleep, but he felt completely rested. He couldn't explain the odd sensation that it gave him. He remembered that he had told Alyxandeyr that they were going to be teaming up again today, but his brother sword was nowhere to be seen. He decided that while he waited, he might as well get some busy work done so he wasn't wasting Alyx's time. He remembered talking to the villagers yesterday, and decided that he wanted a cloak. He agreed to help out the clothier to make it.
he picked out a light, sandy tan color for the cloth and set into work. he grabbed a few clasps that the man had for use, and took off his vest. a full blown cloak was not his style, but he could make something that functioned AS a cloak and still complemented his work. He affixed clasps on the back of the vest, tracing a border around the mane fur that was on the vest, and moving up into the faux paldrons. It was after he found the shape that he needed that he began tracing the shapes, and then using the cloth shears to get the exact proportions that he needed. He took a needle and some light colored thread that would blend in well with the fabric, folded in the fabric, and made a sturdy seam so that the cloth wouldn't unravel itself. After getting the shape cemented, he affixed a matching set of clasps to the cloth so that it would snap into place and was removable.
When he was done, once put in place the cloth was one connected piece, the lowest part being at the small of the back. The rest V'd-up from there, reaching the shoulder guards where it draped around the arms and the bottom seam could just barely brush his hips. It was tough work. the easiest for him was the clasps since that dealt with metal. Cloth was not his style at all, and without the guidance of the Clothier he would not have accomplished that task as fast as he did. Clothworking was rewarding, but not something he saw himself doing again anytime soon. He swept the right fold of his cloak out of the way as he reached for his sword and shouldered it once more. He bowed to the man, and left.

In Rota's agenda next was to scratch the itch of smithing that yesterday gave him. To do that, he would need to mine, and consequently the village had a quest relating to that. Since he needed a pickaxe anyways, he did not hesitate to accept. Well...he hesitated for a brief moment as he remembered where she wanted him to go; back near Gloomweave Cave. he would not be deterred however, blade on his right shoulder as the pick swung limply in his left hand as he walked to his destination. He didn't think he would be going back there so soon, but he should have figured that the cave was the ideal place for gathering minerals. He got as close to the cave as he could without tripping the attention of the spiders that guarded it, wimps though they were. He picked a sizeable face of rock, and waylaid into it.

Rota swung the Pick left handed, and managed to bust a decent chunk of stone off the wall, but he wasn't surprised he didn't get anything important. he needed to prime the spot for the juicy deposits that laid beneath. He set his sword down at the base of a nearby tree, set both hands on the pickaxe, and set upon the untold treasures that were assuredly just underneath the surface.

Rota brought his pick forth steadily with great force, and felt reassured that he made the correct choice in places to mine as he was able to clear debris to reveal a small deposit of coal. This was clearly a good spot. he tucked it away with the stone deposits that he was getting and continued to mine. He knew that he would not leave this spot until he had not only plenty of coal for the smith, but also himself...and maybe a few materials extra. he had no idea what the rock-face could give him, but it could never hurt to be thorough.

Rota widened the mouth of the new cave he was tunneling into the rock face, and for an opening he could barely lay in, it was getting increasingly lucrative. He had not only found more usable coal and stone, but now IRON. as a smith, having metal was ESSENTIAL and now he had a new-found resolve to continue digging his way through the rock face. it was not pure iron, but he new how to refine it. His father had taught him metalworking long ago. While most of it he had thought forgotten, it was all coming back to him as his inspiration grew and grew. With ever present vigor, his pickaxe fell rhythmically as bits of stone could not match the determination of the Half-Demon.

And just like that, the vein had dried up. Rota managed to get some more useable stone, but he was finding no significant minerals. He refused to believe that this spot was done. He must've gotten exceedingly fortunate with a surface deposit, but he knew there had to be more just waiting to be uncovered. Veins of CHARCOAL did not just end in IRON. There was more. Doubt could not pierce his resolve as he brought down his pick again and again.
