The trees in this area of the wood are ancient and dense enough to block out most of the light. The floor is carpeted in a rich coating of moss and fallen leaves, all a deep shade of scarlet. Eventually you become aware of a low whispering sound coming from above you. You look up.
There is something pale and strange in the dark webwork of branches, something moving… you receive the impression of long, crooked fingers like broken twigs, bright eyes that seethe with malice; it is whispering at you…
When you come back to yourself no time seems to have passed at all, but the look of the sky and the numbness of your legs suggest that you have been standing in the same spot, motionless, for several minutes. Something distracted you, but you can't remember what it was.
You do not win or lose any points this turn.

You turn a corner to find a man standing with his back to you on the path you're walking or riding. He's wearing an expensive-looking dark blue jacket, his hair is auburn and a touch curly, and when he turns around there's a single spot of blood on his spotless but slightly rumpled cravat. His eyes are an unnatural shade of purple. If you have ever met him before you will recognize him as the spirit named Llyr.
"Good evening," he says to you politely, and then points toward a copse of yellow ashes in the distance. "You may find that direction somewhat more fruitful."
When you look back, he is gone.
You win two points this turn.

You are distracted while walking or riding by a sharp, musky odor unlike the crisp scent of the leaves underfoot. After a moment you identify a suspect-looking stain darkening the roots of a nearby tree. You bend down to sniff it... yes, that's definitely fox urine. Excellent find!
You win three points this turn.

A broken twig lies in your path. Bending down to retrieve it, you notice that it has a faint spicy scent and the inside of the wood is green and pliable. Something has passed through here recently.
You win two points this turn.

This time Valerian jumps at the noise that splits the silence of the woods; Thorne, however, is already heading in that direction. Hopefully whatever caused it is still in the general area...

A-ha! My, that fox was enormous. Still, it was likely the creature that Gabriel had been tracking. Whether or not it planned to do anything amiss was still up in the air, but now he was curious to see it up close just for the sake of studying it.

The woman tenses as the hair on the back of her neck rises, an eery sensation overcoming her; a sensation of being... watched? Had the roles somehow been reversed? Had she become the prey? She whips around, expecting to see something; when, in fact, there's nothing. She lets out a breath she did not know she was holding, then continues on her way; determined.

Here they happened upon more snapped twigs, bent branches - it seemed as though the fox they chased was quite likely to neglect hiding this (which was fair enough; it was a difficult task). A good thing, Lucterius thought: he wasn't sure how he'd track it otherwise. They couldn't turn over every leaf in search of fox prints, after all - it was a thorough strategy but far from the most efficient one. And by now he had to ignore the apparent age of the breaks, for he had just now seen the newly-snapped twig after seeing bushes similar to these. He examined the patterns of broken twigs, and pointed. Gareth moved.
It seemed the fox was particular to a particular kind of greenery...Lucterius would use that to his advantage.

Finally, after making it back to a point Elsbeth, and Kugrah, remember being at before the little prank, they take a moment to rest. The woods are quite lovely, she thinks, if a little strange at times. Even the haunting echo of the rabbit's scream, from earlier, cannot shake that fact.
Suddenly, Kugrah snorts, and Elsbeth instinctively tightens her grip on him as he turns without warning.
"Ku, what was-- oh.." the words stop dead in her mouth as she glances up, and spies the same fox with glowing eyes that they'd beheld when they'd first started their hunt. Without a word, Kugrah starts after it and in the moment before it dashes away Elsbeth once more gets the strange impression that it had seemed amused.

The density of the trees lessened, and Stephen found himself at the edge of a clearing. No sign of Fallon or that fox, but he did spy a ring of mushrooms. He'd heard of these from others - most called them faerie rings - and he made a mental note to avoid it. There was a strange chill in the air, an ominous sense that he was being watched... Shivering, he hurried, walking around the ring and to the other side of the clearing.

Sheryl Glass pulled her robe closer, blocking out the chill. It was the middle of the day, and she had just pulled an overnight at the hospital. She was tired, and with Samhain approaching, she was a little on edge. Sheryl was not superstitious but as a nurse, she was a firm believer that weird things happen this time of year all the time - and the crazies come out.
The woman was watching her feet, just one foot in front of the other, when she noticed the blood. She stopped, staring at it as if she were seeing things. To her left were buildings, to her right was the forest. From the trail, it looked as if it went into the woods.
Despite her lack of sleep, Sheryl took a step towards the forest. Whoever was bleeding might need help, and her instincts kicked in. She would try to help, even if at her own cost.
As the trees surrounded her, it was as if her body responded on its own - determined to the injured.

At first, Jack could only stare in bemusement at the place the spirit has just vacated. "He seems awfully invested in our success," he told the rabbit. "Perhaps having us for a game." Why else should the mysterious Llyr show himself not once, but twice?
If Jack were a suspicious man, he would suspect that the spirit was following him. Perhaps they were simply on the same trail. Either way, he could hardly help it, so the soldier simply shrugged and continued on.

As he stared into his drink, Renaud's vision shifted in and out of focus until he found himself staring down at the ground instead. The leaf-litter was much more cooperative with his eyes than the wine bottle had been. But oh! What was this? A fox print in the mud?
Renaud stooped over to inspect his discovery. Yes, the leaf-litter had proven to be far more helpful than his wine bottle. How nice of the leaves to keep the trail hidden until his arrival. With a smug grin smeared across his face, he straightened to a wobbling stand and cupped a hand to his mouth. "Glastyn!" he shouted. Now where was that fawn?
Renaud looked back down to the print in the mud, and after finding a mossy rock to sit upon, promptly decided on his next course of action. He took a long drink from his wine. And then he waited for the fox to return.

Fairy rings were not uncommon in the Wardwood, but to encounter two in one trip? It reminded him of the one he'd seen earlier, but there were no rabbits this time. Despite that, he still had the sense of being watched, so he wasn't entirely sure whether this was better or worse. Theron gave the fairy ring a wide berth before he picked up the trail again. Stormstruck did the same, waves of apprehension pouring off her, and he reached out to stroke her neck comfortingly.

It wasn't in Yusri's nature to be so clumsy and careless, thus the little slip up was enough to make him raise his brows with surprise. Well then... Looking at his scratched up hands without much care, but more so amusement, he wiped them off on his pants and continued on his way... feet placing probably even more carefully than normal.
