This would be the day. The day he found something beside sand or soap.

More soap? Yes, more soap. Endless soap. This island was a natural soap mine.

As Edgar stomped along the sand, a small portion of the beach caved in just slightly beneath his feet. That was probably indicative of a great cache of riches!

Spying the little monarchist, America looked around the beach for some tea to dump into the sea. But instead she found more soap. Which would also prove useful.

Mimsy returned to the beach, seeking useful items once more.
In a world where soap was a useful item, she found what she was looking for.
It was kind of like a metaphor for her life - diligence and persistence, a drive for discovery, hard work not paying off, a failure to find what she was looking for, 'discovering' things that she pretended she meant to find. It all tied up rather tidily. But she was not that self-aware, so she didn't consider any of that.
She just pocketed the soap again.

Taym ventured down to the beach convinced of more soap. In fact today he almost wanted soap, because the crazy new b***h was trading runestones for it, possibly for the making of explosives.
He didn't find soap. For a split second he was disappointed.

Could it be? Was it really? IT WAS. It was cigarettes! Not Camels, more's the pity, but not menthols, either, so he'd call that a wash. The pack was half-smoked. He did not care. He also felt a brief pang of pity for whatever poor b*****d had misplaced a half a pack of smokes at a time like this, but it was an exceptionally brief pang.

Jerry briefly considered writing a song about soap on the beach. Somehow, he didn't think that one would sell, although it had to be something everyone could relate to.
