The man with long flowing black locks perked up immediately at hearing his name and looked to Melvin, "Hm?" He squinted in reply. The other looked familiar but he couldn't... quite... "OH! Melvin!" Then he frowned. Deeply. As deep as his endless soul.

Melvin forgot in his momentary shock that the last time he even saw Rin they had a fight in the labs. It hadn't gone over well, and there was still a bitter taste in his mouth from it.

Rin apparently had remembered too, and was suddenly cold. He could practically see the air around her darken and felt an actual chill down his back. If this is what a aura looked like, it was strong in this one.

He looked down, rubbing his hand against his other arm. "What are you doing here?"

Every line of Rin's face tensed as his gaze explored Melvin with a quiet intensity that was almost tangible enough to taste. "Am I not allowed to attend something such as this now without you throwing it back at me?"

The tone only had him angry again, and he crossed his arms, looking to the side. Whatever aura Rin had going on right now, it was downright terrifying just to look at her - him - WHATEVER!

"You can do whatever the hell you want. I was just wondering if you were competing."

He was quiet a moment. "I see you're still angry."  

[Saliru]

"No. Just watching," Rin admitted before eyeing Melvin up and down distractedly. Catching himself with a stern frown, "Maybe because instead of apologizing for crossing a line you denied it and continued to make me feel like s**t on your way out the door?"

He didn't look at her still though he usually always looked someone in the eye when speaking. It was something he was told to do and raised to do by his father, but for whatever reason, he wasn't exercising it now. He certainly did feel a bit - off today.

"I explained to you why it bothered me. You just...kept dismissing it as if it wasn't a huge deal and that what I was thinking didn't make sense. I left because .." He thought about it. "...I didn't want to say anything I'd regret later." Not that the argument didn't help. "I wasn't getting my point across anyways so there was no point in staying and making it worse."

"No you didn't. Not really. You don't see me getting pissy about everyone you slept with before I met you. It makes no damn sense!" His aura possibly grew tendrils now, "Just explain it in a way that might actually make sense and maybe I'll understand, okay?!" He was trembling with emotion at this point.

He scratched his chin with one finger as he thought how to explain it. "The people before don't matter. They aren't on the island with us. They're...not hunters. I don't work with them, talk to them, or rely on them in any way. Their not...in the same world. The way our world is now. I don't care about the people you or Rep were with before the island. I don't see or talk to these people every day."

He crossed his arms again, looking out across the room and the other people mingling around and acting. All hunters.

"I don't really hang out with anyone on the island as much as I do you and Rep - so when I heard you two used to be something, it matters. Not only because neither one of you ever brought it up, but because no matter if it's casual, there will always been something leftover from the past. You also seemed very close to Rep and it had me wondering if you two were really doing something on the side, or if you had feelings for him despite it not being returned. It makes things - it's like being a third wheel."

But that wasn't all of it.

"With Rep taking off you hand, with you watching over him to make sure he eat and bathed - I was wondering if you were tending to him and forgiving him because of something more than just a friend. I don't like theorizing too much. I like talking directly to the person and finding out. It's why I ask people. To figure out how things are. I didn't want to rely on third party talk."

He breathed out, a sigh bubble floating by. That was - weird.

"In the end, I didn't want you getting hurt in one way or another." Physically. Emotionally. All because of Rep.

His eyes glanced across the room to where Rep was talking to Leon casually - again, when did they become friends??!

Rin tried to hear him out. Tried to understand. Tried. "What I'm struggling to understand here is - why do you think what we had effects you in any way? He is my best friend. I tell him everything. Even my crushes and hopes and dreams. Yes, we look out for each other... but he can take care of himself on the battlefield. We all have our roles and duties and follow those. Yes, maybe I'm more apt to forgive him, but I'm more apt to forgive you too. Clearly. Or I wouldn't even be standing here trying to understand your side in hinting I was slut-esque." Rin still struggled with the vaguest concept. "Look, I just don't get why you seem to feel so threatened by this? I'm not going to let you die, okay. At least not if you apologize," he looked shifty.

"I never said you were a slut. You can screw around all you want. I don't expect anyone to be pristine virgins around here saving themselves for the right one. We're not exactly looking for a hopeful future around him half the time. Living in the moment is to be expected and we're all adults and have needs. I just wanted to hear what was going on and why I had to find out about it from someone else since I hang around both of you all the time and no one bothered bringing it up in passing." It bothered him - a lot. It was like a lie that hadn't been said, a secret he had to find from someone else. Or maybe it was just a norm around here to mess around with everyone and not bother mentioning it because everyone didn't see it as a big deal....

I think that's it.

He wanted to sort his thoughts out better, it it still bugged him.

He placed a hand on his face, taking a breath. Maybe he was just being an idiot about all of it. He couldn't even pinpoint all the things that bugged him about not knowing about it.

Dropping his hand, he looked up at Man-Rin. "I'm sorry. I just wanted to hear your side of it, and ..." He waved his hand dismissively. "...I don't talk well sometimes. Things were stressing me out I guess and it all came off wrong."

He crossed his arms again. "Are we....ya know...still cool?"

"Well, I don't know. It depends on whether or not you're willing to let this go," Rin's nose wrinkled just slightly as he offered up a smile to Melvin.

What else could he do? It didn't make sense to be upset over something that was already said was done and past. "I'll let it go." He told her-ish.  

[Saliru]

Rin bobbed his head, "Then I forgive you." At this point his icy blue eyes began to sparkle like diamonds with how happy he was to have that behind them... where it belonged.

"Right. Well, I gotta get back to...well, I guess this horrible porn shoot. I'll be back." He told her, and went back to address Marcus' non-existent medical needs.

Rin resumed watching the show, in a much better mood.
