Alyx stood. "I think you should return to the town with the cure instead," she said calmly. "I will not return with you. I do not believe I should." Her mind was closed to him now so she was sure he would not know her true plan. She walked up to him but would not meet his eyes. "I am going to burn the lab I came from and I wish to do it alone." 'And destroy myself in the process,' she thought to herself.

Two of the lab guards came into Rowans cell and brought her into the main room and strapped her down to the table.Then they left the room leaving the scientists alone to commence more experiments on her.The scientists hooked tubes and wires to Rowan like they had before."It is time to continue were we left off the day she escaped us the last time."One of the scientists said as he looked at his companion.

Ace shook his head before saying "The town doesn't care about me. They only took a chance on the cure because of the fact that I spoke up. Besides there are no good people left in there, and they have a good chance at surviving the way they are now." He placed a hand on the door and thought a moment before adding quietly "I blame the lab and the scientist that created this for what has happened, not you. If you intend to destroy the lab then I want in."

"They did not know what they created," Alyx said quietly. "They thought I was mindless, harmless! I let them believe that. They did not make me a monster! I did that!" She could feel tears falling down her cheeks.

"Alyx just stop and listen to me." Ace said as he turned around to face her. He then said "They created you, while it may be true that they didn't know what they created they still took the risk and played with genes. That kind of research is band just about everywhere and yet they did it anyway. They knew that there could be serious problems if things went wrong yet they did what they did. I still say that you have a choice continue to be the monster that they wanted or be human. You try to get me to stop blaming myself and blame you, but I don't blame you or myself. I blame those people that chose to play with the genes of humans."

The scientists picked up where they left off with the experimentation on Rowan genetic makeup.They made no effort to ease the pain they were inflecting on her in the process.One of them pressed a button which sent a strange liquid through the tubes that were attached to Rowan and into her veins.

Ace quietly said "You are human enough to have this choice. Many people never have a choice about what they want to be or what will happen to them. You have that choice, so don't waste it." He turned around and lifted the bolt and slowly opened the door. He stood there and quietly said "I plan on making sure you stay alive, it is your choice as to whether I follow you or you allow me to tag along." With that he walked slowly into the hallway and turned towards the door of the hospitable, he stopped and looked at Alyx.

Rowan's body tensed up as the liquid ran through her veins there was a burning sensation as it did so.The scientists were looking at her cells through a scope seeing what the liquid was doing.Seeing no further changes they sent another liquid through the tubes.

"But your death will do nothing to change it. You want to make a difference then take out the lab and any others and kill all the zombies." Ace told her as he stood out in the hallway looking at her.

"Blaming yourself and ending yourself will do nothing to change what has happened. The best thing to do is to make the best of what we have and try to fix things." Ace told her as she said nothing. He waited a few more moments before walking back into the room and grabbing the supplies and he said "Lead the way to the lab that we are going to destroy or somewhere else."

Alyx said nothing and did not move. Her defenses had finally crumbled and every bit of her mind was open, waiting for him to enter and see.

Ace saw that her mind was now open and he slowly pushed his mind to hers and entered hers and saw her mind. He felt his own defenses lowering as he looked into her mind.
