It was a relief to have light, but to see wasn't something to clap about. They were in a cramped space, something that never translated well to the kelpie, and he felt trapped. Worse yet, the laughing got worse. He turned to look and frowned at his own relection. Ugh. He looked horrible. Shuffling into his pack, he brought out his brush a moment to comb it straight and shoved the brush back in, before looking down. Glancing about, Calder held his kilt down a bit. He probably should have worse those boxers his father kept insisting on, but who knew that he'd be in a mirror room.

The laughing only got worse, and he was about to shout again when a new voice called out to him.

"You left him.

Calder's ears turned and he looked about. "What?" He croaked, looking about.

" He needed you, and you left him... "

With Barth's capture still fresh in his mind, it wasn't hard to know who 'him' was. Who was accusing him of leaving Barth?! Calder looked to his friends, but they weren't looking at him. No. They wouldn't accuse him of that. They knew he hadn't. The voice was somewhere. Who was talking to him? Laughing at him?! "I...I didn't leave him! I -" Calder cut himself off, ears drawing back in guilt. They had entered the field, and Calder had heard the call to save that ghoul. He wanted to save her and those members in the tent, and, he just wanted to rush and save them.

"....now you'll never get to..."

He shook his head. "Don't say that!" He cried out, and heard glass shatter. Turning, he noticed Christof punching a mirror. A way to get out? Yes. They should get out. Break the mirrors. Calder turned and kicked out, but his hoof shattered a mirror. Yes. Shatter it. Break them.

Just as he pulled his hoof back, the mirror starts starts to piece together like a puzzle in reverse and it clustered and grew up like silver frost until whole, the kelpie's shocked expression reflecting back at him.

"......you left him to his own defenses.........ran off and left him...

"I thought he'd be okay? He was fine. I wanted to help those people!"

"...YOU? Help?! You can't help anyone. You can't even help yourself. You didn't help anyone during the Island, and you didn't help those you cared about now. What sort of stallion are you to leave a member of your herd?!"

He clutched at his chest, bunching up the sweater in his grasp. "I TRIED! I was right there! I was running as fast as - "

"You shouldn't have left him out of your sight in the first place. A creature alone away from the herd always gets thrown to the wolves. And you think you LOVE him? You can't even protect him!"

"I will! I .. .I do! Y-You don't know anything! SHUT UP!"

"You deserve to be alone. So weak. You couldn't even run to get him. Pathetic. What good are you as a kelpie anyways? He'll never want you now."

"SHUT UP!"

OOC
Adding one clarification: If you want your character to have a psychotic break from the stress etc. you can do that! Just note that it is NOT REQUIRED - there is nothing here that would force such a thing like, say, the fog on the Island last meta did. But if you feel it's appropriate for your character's brain to break badly at this point?

Go for it!

When you guys feel you're ready for your next prompt, someone quote me and let me know. You can spend as long on this as you want, and if some people decide they want to move on sooner than others that's also OK and will not infringe on people who want to keep RPing with the current scenario!

Freya didn't quite understand why Herryk had let her go and ran ahead, but he was just starting to get frantic when the rest of her teammates disappeared. She had only turned her head for a moment to find Calder, and when she turned back - even Herryk was missing.

She was alone.

No, worse.

"Did you forget about me?" The sound was like smooth velvet, sliding across her skin. Every inch of her goosebumped, and she swiveled her head to the source of the voice. Only her own reflection gazed back at her.

"Yehr not here." Freya laughed nervously at the mirror, even as she felt hot breath against her ear. There was no one there, she could see it with her own two eyes.

But she could feel him.

"You did, you forgot about me." Freya's eyes pinched shut when she felt the phantom touch of a pair of strong, big hands slid over her shoulders. The touch was familiar, and intimate. She kept her eyes shut.

"Freya. Open your eyes." Instead of listening to the voice that made her shake, her hand lifted and she blindly flipped off the mirror in front of her. "This is what I thinks of yehr requests, yeh piece of-" Her voice cut off into a whimper when she felt his fingers brush against her lips. Why did she have to remember the way he felt so clearly, that even now, on the brink of sanity, her own mind was giving the torture of this room more power than it already had?

Why couldn't she just forget him?

"But you did forget me. You did. Do you think I don't know what you've been up to, over here?" She felt his hands slid across her bare stomach, across the scar that Before's wheel had left. "You know I only want you, Freya."

Her eyes snapped open, and she glared at the reflection in the mirror. The thin thread of sanity snapped, and there he was, holding her in his giant arms just like in her memory.

Thor.

"Yehr marrying Sif." Freya's shaky voice challenged. The fight in her eyes was fading. "Yehr the one who dumped me, or did yeh forget THAT, hah?"

"Come home." The phantom in her mind pleaded. "Come home, and give me what I want. Then it's just you and me, Freya. Just you and me."

Freya dropped down to her knees, an action easily done since there was truly no one there holding her, and no one whispering in her ear. Her palms slapped the floor as she crumbled, and her eyes filled with tears.

"Come home, Freya." The voice whispered from the mirrors. Her arms wrapped around herself, and she rocked back and forth gently.

"You know I love you."

Her head snapped up, eyes widened in a moment of hope, only to be shattered just as hard as Christof and Calder's mirrors as it all sunk in. She screamed at her reflection, responding to the voice - or was she simply screaming at herself?

"YEH DON'T KNOWS WHAT LOVE MEANS!"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 22, 2011 9:27 pm

Christof drew in a sharp breath, keeping his eyes on the mirrored floor where his face peered back at him between his boots.

He could hear him but.

He couldn't see any sign of black curling mist, of glowing eyes watching him critically, not a single glimmer of a tsk tsking talon.

It... it... it was just like the island fog. Master Fell was not here. He had better, more important things to do than constantly watch him. Just in his head...

But it had to come from somewhere. There was truth in those haunting words in the voice of his creator. Truth that terrified him more than the idea of his Creator's disapproval.

He was right. Even in his imagination, Master Fell was right. Always right.

But... but he had a chance to prove him wrong. Wobbling as he watched the others all succumb to their own inner demons, he drifted forward through the mirrors as though in a trance.

He would rescue his Master. And then... and then it wouldn't matter what Master Fell thought, not ever again.

One of the mirrors suddenly melts away like snow, only to reveal... more mirrors?! What. The mirrors stretch on, and you quickly realize that what awaits you is a mirror maze. Fantastic. Flickers of shadow are occasionally visible in the mirrors as you turn, sometimes at your feet, sometimes off in the distance.

And, every so often, that mocking voice continues to speak, taunting you with things only you could know... weaknesses only you could understand...

Quote:

OOC: IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO GO THROUGH THE MAZE YET, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO. If you do, then proceed!

The mocking voice and shadows will follow you throughout the maze! The specifics of what the voice says to your character are up to you. It should continue to focus on the inner fears of your character, and things they feel guilty or uncertain about. Any weakness? Go for it! I trust you to have fun with this, much like how we all had fun with the insanity in the last meta. Use it for RP flavor and feel free to torment your character as much as you want!

As for the maze...
To brave the mirror maze, you will need to go through four sections. Please note that you cannot smash through these mirrors unless the dice permit you to do so! Please roll the dice specific to the area you are in:

Section 1: 1d6

1, 3, 5: You stumble around, disoriented. Roll again.

2, 4: Success! You make it through the first part. Proceed to Section 2.

6: SCREW THIS! You become frustrated. Or angry. Or very sad over the fact that you're lost. Whatever you're feeling, you manage to hurt yourself for -2 HP. Roll again.

Section 2: 1d8

1, 2: After walking around for three minutes, you realize that you're right back where you started. Roll again.

3, 8: While navigating the mirror maze, you manage to trip over a mirror-table and nearly drop a mirror-vase filled with mirror-flowers. You klutz! Take -1 HP damage. Then reroll.

4, 5: Success! That wasn't too bad. You proceed on to Section 3.

6: You come across a mirror-toilet, and decide to spend a little while there. Mirror epiphany toilet! It doesn't seem to have gotten you any further along, though..

7: How did you...? Somehow, you made it back to Section 1. Please scroll up and roll a 1d6 and follow the listings there.

Section 3: 1d10

1: Hello, person, look at your maze, now back to me, now back at your maze, now back to me. Sadly, you're alone in this maze, but if you stopped getting separated from your group and started keeping a close eye on everyone, you could be as awesome as me. Look down, back up, where are you? You're still in the maze being watched by the GM running this room. What's in your hand, back at me. I have it, it's the luck you need to get through this maze to proceed on. Look again, the luck is now a minipet. Anything is possible when you roll a one in the middle of a dice game. You need to reroll a 1d10 and quote Marushii with your minis SN.

2, 3, 4: You're so lost. So, so lost. So reroll and try again!

5, 6: You made it! You continue on to the final section, Section 4.

7: You're lost. So, so very lost. What do you do? Easy: you follow someone. Pick a random group member, don't look at their roll. Treat what they got, what you got. Reroll or proceed as needed.

8: No. No. Hell no. You did not just go back to Section 1. But you totally did. Except you somehow navigated it and Section 2, lucky you. Reroll 1d10 and try again.

9, 10: Yep. Still lost. Reroll the 1d10.

Section 4: 1d12

1: Uggggh this maze is so trippy! First you move and it's like. WOW! So many other-reflecections of you move too! It's so disorienting! You need to roll again as a result.

2: Navigating the maze would be easier if you stopped trying to walk INTO the mirrors. Take -1 HP damage and reroll.

3: When you see it, you can't believe your eyes. There's... There's a mirror-couch. A couch made out of mirrors. It's not comfortable to sit on, but it's sturdy enough to stand on. You use it as a boost to peer over the side of the mirror-walls and look around. There's the exit! You cheating cheater: you navigate your way to the exit.

4: You have just about HAD it with this maze! Maybe you're angry. Maybe you're filled with despair. No matter what you feel, you either accidentally or on purpose give the wall a good shove. It falls over. Then it knocks down the mirror-wall after that, and the one after that, and the one after that until you have a clear path to the exit. It's too bad the walls sprung back up before you could run across them! Try again.

5: Navigating the maze would be easier if you paid more attention to where you were. You manage to hurt yourself for -1 damage. Reroll.

6: Through much trial and error, you manage to find the exit. Horray! Now all you need to do is wait at the exit for the rest of your group...

7: You have just about HAD it with this maze! Maybe you're angry. Maybe you're filled with despair. No matter what you feel, you either accidentally or on purpose give the wall a good shove. It falls over. Then it knocks down the mirror-wall after that, and the one after that, and the one after that until you have a clear path to the exit. Lucky break! You run across the fallen mirrors and reach the exit. Behind you, the mirrors spring back up into place.

8: Feeling lucky, you take random twists and turns... and get nowhere fast. Roll again.

9: When you see it, you can't believe your eyes. There's... There's a mirror-couch. A couch made out of mirrors. It's not comfortable to sit on, but it's sturdy enough to stand on. You use it as a boost to peer over the side of the mirror-walls and look around. There's the exit! You abuse this knowledge to reach the exit, except the exit isn't where you remembered it to be. In fact, you turned yourself around. Go back to Section 3 and reroll a 1d10.

10: You are so, so lost. But that's okay! You manage to find someone else in your group who's also lost and in Section 4. Through teamwork, the magic of friendship, and dumb luck the pair of you manage to make it to the end! Pick someone who is in Section 4 at the same time as you. Both of you exit the maze. You must pick someone at the exact time you roll a 10; you may not wait for another team member to get into section 4. If no one else is in your section, proceed by yourself to the exit.

11: You navigate this section of the mirror-room with ease. Why is everyone else having so much trouble? Your section of the maze is a large empty mirror-chamber. It feels like whoever built the maze forgot to add twists and turns to this area: it's an open room with nothing in your way. You practically waltz to the exit.

12: You know what's awesome about mirrors? Mirrors break. Sure there's the whole "Seven Years Bad Luck" thing associated with them, but you know what? Stuff that. You pick up a mirror-object and throw it at a mirror-wall and proceed with the destruction. You smash your way out of the maze, unaware that the maze is repairing itself behind you. You're out, but at what cost? If the next room requires you to roll a dice, you will AUTO FAIL that roll. If the next room does NOT require a dice roll, then you get away. Scott free. Lucky you.

When you ALL reach the end you will find yourselves in a large, suspiciously empty room (still mirrored like the rest)... quote me to continue at that point! You do not need to stop RPing until I arrive, just hang out and talk/keep getting tormented by your inner shadows until the next prompt shows up.

Oooh, this poof is so pretty, isn't it? White and black and red...

A strangled, high-pitched yelp rang out. Then silence.

So much red... too bad papa wasn't here to save you. It's so sad, isn't it? He left you behind to go on a trip with some pretty girl.

The barks grew louder, more frantic, more fanatic.

"No!! Skalla!" Herryk's movements grew jerky, frenetic. "No, no! Herryk is here!" Tears were flowing freely from Herryk's eyes. They were innocent! They had done nothing wrong! Those little balls of vacant-eyed fluff were Herryk's best friends... and now Nanna... sweet Nanna was gone.

"Please, please! Stop!"

Useless, stupid... I built you for a purpose, Christof, and you couldn't even fulfill that purpose. You lost him before you even had him.

Just drown it out, just don't think about it. Keep walking...

You're daft. I should have rearranged your brain last upgrade. Alas. But when you come home, the lobotomy will be waiting for you. Standard issue Igor, alas.

Christof gave a snarl, once more swinging a massive left fist into a mirror, glass shards flying to snag at stitches, send blood spraying, staining the floor and his jacket.

Just... keep walking... Barth is on the other side. Just... just get through this labyrinth...

Section 1

She smelled potatoes.

Freya heard someone yelling, but she couldn't pinpoint the voice. The smell was overwhelming her senses, and she stumbled to her feet to try and find it. She was so hungry, so damn hungry..

Every turn she took left her feeling closer to the smell. And yet, as much as she was following it, she was also running away.

Starch was a fattening food, after all.

Freya took a step back from her current path, and turned away from the smell. Her hand wrapped around her stomach, and her fingers gripped her skin.

And this one... so adorable with the brown patches over its eyes...

There was a sick, wet ripping sound followed immediately by a scream. A thud. A yelp. A crunch.

Silence.

That will take some time to clean up...

"Hanna!" The name was wailed as Herryk fell to one knee. He slammed a fist weakly against the mirror in front of him before resting his forehead against the smooth glass.

Section 1

"Freya."

She reconsidered going down the path that smelled like potatoes, when she heard that voice again. "Go aways. Nobody wants yeh."

"You want me."

"I wants yeh. I wants yeh to drops dead, is how I wants yeh."

Her skin goosebumped again, and she sniffed, just once. She could smell him in the air. She had preferred the potatoes - but at least the smell of him was making her lose her appetite.

"Freya, I-"

"ENOUGH!" She screamed, swiveling around to face him - but all she got was an empty hallway. The mirror in front of her reflected her tear stained face, but the anger in her eyes made her proud.

And then the mirror opened right before her very eyes, offering her passage out of the room.

"They're probably cutting him up right now?"

Calder gasped, looking about and noticing not only was he alone, but there was still no one there. He was being taunted, and it was working. "No. They won't. He'll keep him. They wouldn't.."

"Who wants a sloth demon? They'll just cut him up. I'm sure he's delicious or maybe they just want pieces of him. I bet they are cutting off those lovely horns of his right now."

"NO! Not the horns!" He cried, moving to the mirror to press his hands upon it, trying to stare past his own reflecting before he looking about and about. It was disorenting and worrying. There was a creature he could not see, speaking to him, one which he couldn't pinpoint by hearing or see. This figure was moving about and he was confined, and all his animal senses were making him panic. Gripping at his hair, he pulled at it until the clip and hair tie were pulled out and dropped the floor.

No.Nonono.no."

"Yyyeeeessss. They'll cut off his thorns, and then.."

"Then?" Not then. "No more."

"They'll cut off his arms."

Calder whimpered as he thought about a hornless, armless, Barth. He'd never be able to do hornicures for him. Never be able to be held by him. Never get to hold his hands as they walked to class. But that was if the boil lived through the pain and Fear-loss. Calder had known fauns who didn't survive or want to survive horn removal of any nature.

"He'll be even more uesless than he is now, and he'll know it's because of YOU!"

"NO! I didn't do that to him! I would never want to see him hurt!" Why wouldn't the voice just stop? Why didn't it just leave him be? It didn't know him - and yet it knew EVERYTHING. It was in his head. It had to be. This was some weird trick. Calder curled his fists and hit his head. "Stop it. Stop it. Stop thinking."

"Barth knows you ruined him. He knows your useless. He can rely on Christof. It's why he talks about him so much. Relies on him. You know how close they are. Christof would have saved Barth too, but you had to get in the way. You had to get all those humans on you and get Christof to save you. You had to fall when Christof needed to rely on you to run. You held him back and now look. Christof is hurt and Barth is lost. Christof will hate you to, and Barth, if he even LIVES, will hate you"

"THEY WOULDN'T! THEY'RE MY FRIENDS!"

"You don't have friends. No one wants to be the friend of some disgusting kelpie. Now no one ever will."

Tears streaked his face and he shook his head, spinning, before he turned to face - a hallway. "But they gave me their pin.." His shoulders shook as he looked at the hallway. He was alone. They all left him. ....was the voice right?

"They'll take the pins back. "

He took a step forward.

"And leave you..."

He took another step down the hallway.

"....all alone."

Calder looked about, and again noticed his only company was this voice and himself. Maybe this was how it should be? Then he'd never hurt anyone. He'd never be their burden. He'd never be relied on.

He leaned against the wall, dragging his body along as he cried. "I don't...I don't wanna be alone."

Heavy breathing, in and out. Eyes clenched shut. It was just in his head just in his head just in his head, just move forward....

He was smart. Smarter than the average Igor. He knew that, now. That was why Barth liked him. He didn't say it, but... but he could tell. Just get through this and it would be back to the work bench, and together they'd build something that would destroy them all... together... and... and Calder could pull the switch.

These two are so pretty.. like little fruit bowls.

The mirror that Herryk was leaning on gave way, and he peered inside. "Ingrid? Magga?" His voice was rife with hope as he crawled through the opening. He lifted a big hand and brushed away the dampness on his cheeks. Herryk didn't want his babies to see him cry. They always got upset when he was upset.

Are you coming? They need you so. They depend on you. And you've left them behind.

"No," Herryk spat. "Herryk told them that he was coming back."

The room gave way in front of him, another mirror slowly dissipating before him.

A mirror toilet?

Do you remember the time that little Martta and Dagny were swimming in the toilet at your dorm?

"Herryk remembers," Herryk mumbled, inhaling loudly. They'd almost drowned, and from that moment on he'd made extra effort to keep the toilet lid down.

A movement caught his attention out of the corner of his eye and he immediately turned his head. It was Freya...

He didn't want her to see him like this.

"You should have gone home."

Calder shook his head. He covered his ears and pulled them down flat against his head. The voice laughed at his attempt to drown it out.

"Even the first years could do more good than you."

"I just want to help." He wanted to be useful. To be relied on. To be wanted around and depended upon. ....how could they do that now when all he did was fail.

"Not even to Amityville. Just go home. You shouldn't even bother with everyone. Even if Barth tolerated you after this, you'll leave them anyways. Why even bother trying to have friends now? Maybe it's better they hate you now?"

"..no. I don't want them to hate me." Sure, it might be easier, but he liked having friends.

"But look how terrible you are at having them. At making them. Look at how popular everyone else is. Even Christof has more friends than you. You just are terrible at it. You know why that is?

"I don't want to know why." He whispered back, dragging himself down the hallway, clutching his arms as he moved.

"You weren't ever supposed to go to this school. You should only stay with your own kind. Your own clan. You don't belong here. Why are you bothering with any of this? You can't have the life you want. You can't have a job outside of the clan that isn't useful to them. You can't have friends other than other kelpies. And this...this ...CRUSH you have!" The laughing picked up, and Calder stopped, curling in as he held his arms in closer.

"You're claimed You're shouldn't even have these feelings. Not after all you did to get into that clan. To get into the mess you put yourself in. You're going to risk all that, your mother's happiness, on some crush you have on a boil you'll just wind up breaking your heart like all those other boils did?!!! "

"SHUT UP! His hand shot out, punching the nearest mirror to him. Glass fragments shattered and fell down, and he winced as he drew his fist back, looking down through his blurry, teared-up vision to look at the cuts.

"...just shut up." He was stupid. He was so stupid.
