Sabs, didn't we have something like this in The Witches Tower where you could try the adventures? It might have been the riddles or something but, here it goes.
Walking around in the darkness, you finaly get to a large arched threshold. Through is a random farm that doesn't seem to be growing to well. It's in an underground labyrnth, why would it? An old man partially hunched over and leans heavily on a cane slowly staggers up to.
"This used to be my farm," he says in a gruff voice. "Unfortantly, everything dried up besides my cucumbers and garlic. ((Kappa and vampire, see where I'm going?)) I will give you one put you have to pay me first."
You remember your can of spring water that is supposed to bring life ((Maybe it could be a descision thing... Like the water could help zombies or something.)) You decide to:
A. Exchange the bottle for the cucumbers
B. Exchange the bottle for the garlic.

I read that mixing in the myth creatures with countries was a problem right now...so here's this idea that I just came with <_<; although its probably not really good.
Anyways, how about relate one myth creature to each country? Usually a country will have a belief relating to a creature as well, so the myth creatures can be incorporated into the country idea.
Lets say the Phoenix for China and the Lochness for Scotland.The werewolves can be England and the Kappa Japan etc etc
As you go through the labyrinth, you sort of end in different regions (the countries) guarded/ruled by each myth creature. The ball can still go on; happy and unwary guests still mingling about upstairs while downstairs, a certain darkness is brewing?
There might be a curse or something that has locked these creatures in the dungeons, and through the centuries they have been imprisoned there, their magic (or something) had slowly started to shape the areas in the Labyrinth that is closest to them into the homeland they hailed from. As the people who follows the story will find out, some of these creatures arent all evil and out to get them, but the years of long imprisonment by some evil king (or some othercreature, like Dracula or a myth creature that has an obsession with being the Lord) has turned them bitter.
And...we can make up something for why they were locked there? sweatdrop

I would think that it would be mostly towards the phoenician people... Hehe. A random funny story. My friend has her symbol as the dragon and my symbol is the phoenix... Turns out, the phoenix and the dragon together are a symbol for marriage.

sabs/Lectern - oh haha I must have missed it x_X; Cause I was just quickly skimming through most things, and I'm partially blind D: sorry <_<;
Lectern- the phoenix is not only a symbol of unity between Yin and Yang, men and women, it's also the symbol of power, grace and virtue =] usually when couples get married back in olden day china, the girl will wear a headdress that resembles a phoenix <3 Dragons are more of a representation of the Emperor in China, as its a symbol of power, rather than unity. People think unity since it complements the Phoenix, the yin, and the dragon is yang, but it usually works =] since Yin and Yang goes together lol
*her dad has pounded countless chinese beliefs and culture into her head* Thats what I get for hailing from a chinese family lol

lol I think this is on topic...since if we wanted to use myth and around the world, we might need this discussion.
As for the vampires, anyone ever read Darren Shan? That guy has a great way of interpreting the vampires <3 more original and slightly different from the vampires that are commonly used. If we have trouble with sparkly vampires (which I do too), we can take a look at his vamps instead =] Although I think it'll be nice if we stuck to the original vampires.
And what does people think of the Labyrinth being in the Dracula's castle? =D And Dracula did have a goal for world domination, so that might possibly work with why the other myth creatures are locked up in his Labyrinth. Perhaps he's gathering them to create an army or something? Pretty cliched, I know lol.But I can just picture a beautiful and grande ball, taking place in a castle furnished by one of the most deadly people in history; it sort of brings out the sweet halloween Envy mentioned, seeing as its a great, nice and beautiful ball but the outside the main ball areas, dark things are lurking amongst the polished floors and matted walls.

i would love to hang out with a gryphon for the ball, that would be AWESOME!

Wow.... I'm so glad it seems we've finally hit upon an idea everyone can get into!! *happy dance*
anime- I'm not sure how I feel about the Dracula's castle thing. My initial reaction was to say no, but the more I think about it, the more I want to do it. But why would sane, normal people go to a ball being put on by Dracula? They would have to know he's up to no good!!! I mean, he's DRACULA!
Sabs- What do you mean by underground? As in, the labyrinth is underground and it comes up in different countries? Like digging a hole to China?
So many good ideas floating around!!! I love the idea of the mythical creatures in the labyrinth. Then we can have a little of what everyone likes! Although, I would encourage us not to just do dark monsters, because not everyone's into that. It's not hard to put a Unicorn Forest in there too, so let's stay open to that too.
And I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather not vanquish dragons!!! I love them too much! blaugh

Mythical creatures and countries and labyrinths? xD
That's the kind of thing that I'd research about in my spare time, since I'm such a nerd. If that became the ball theme, I'd spazz!
So... all these fantastic creatures are partying because ________. Since this is still sortakinda with the celebrations theme, what's their legitimate reason? Just curious. As mentioned before, all these parties could be for some sort of contest held by the 'gods' and whatnot, or some sort of rare, universal, special event, like the appearance of a comet, or a new star. I personally like the new star idea. ^___^

- Just to note: I like the idea of some grand figure hosting a ball in a large, fancy mansion. I'm against it being Dracula specifically. I think with as common and cliche the use of Dracula can be that it might be a turn off. I'm open to the figure being an evil-alignment or with having an ulterior motive for hosting the ball. I agree with Kaia, we need an established balance between "good" & "ebul" creatures. A time to aid and a time to kill. The digging a hole to China comment made me giggle. We would need to also establish a reason why or how this labyrinth was discovered. Have any of you seen or read The Secret Garden? or The Lion, The Witch, & the Wardrobe? if so it might trigger your imaginations on how to make it work!
And did I hear right.. we all found a theme we have interest in? O.O

Little wheels!!! and yesh, I love the idea of this theme. <3
The ball can be held in a huge mansion-type place like Envy suggested. Somehow, a group of guests discover the entrance to the labyrinth, and the rest of the time is spent trying to get back. As for the creation of the labyrinth, there can be some all-powerful mythical creature (NOT a god) who created it to protect some kind of artifact, and while the guests are trying to find their way back, they stumble across the guardians of the artifact?
That made more sense in my head. >.<

Hmm. Maybe a dark cult (who seems happy and nice) hosts a ball for unknown reasons. From there, we accidently stumble upon the indivual rooms of the monsters. We try to set free or slay the monsters, and once that is taken care of, we party with them! I think if we did something like that, we could keep it forums...
