He managed to dodge in time, but her tactic had worked, as he was off-balance and unable to stop her for a few seconds.
"Grab the child," he said smoothly, and his demons hastened to comply. He turned towards her, although he didn't advance. "Can you really leave the girl, Black Cat? Just like that?"
As he spoke, he shifted back to his original form, a red-skinned, devilish creature wearing the skins and bones of defeated foes. His eyes were pitch black.

Black Cat was almost out the window when three words stopped her cold, followed by a question that made her heart pound even faster. Of course she shouldn't have cared; she'd only known Rosie for an hour or two, and didn't carry any real responsibility for her whatsoever, certainly not if it meant sacrificing her own safety. She wasn't a hero; she didn't do selfless. But...despite her mind's protests, she found that there was only one answer to the question: no. Slowly, every muscle in her body tense with anger and fear, she turned away from the window. "What the hell do you want?" she spat.

"It's quite simple," said the demon as he stepped slowly towards her, his boots clicking on the wood floor. "I'm going to need offspring. I need superpowered mates in order to bear them. You are going to submit to my wishes, or you and the girl will die. In reverse order, of course."

No! NO WAY IN HELL! NOT AGAIN! Black Cat thought, rage and full-on panic welling up in her chest as she consciously forced herself not to back up in the face of his slow advance. There was no way that she could beat someone like this, not a supernatural being... Unless... "If I go with you, I'll need a promise that you, along with any minions and allies you might have, will leave this girl alone."

"Oh, of course. I have no use for her after I have you. You have my word that as long as you do as I ask, this girl - and yourself - will be safe from harm."
He smiled a little, not in a menacing way. "Don't be so nervous. I'm not going to hurt you, and you might even enjoy it."

Black Cat glared, her hands balling into fists. Plan: officially non-workable. Now she only had her backup, which had less than a snowballs chance in hell of working. "Believe me," she said in vicious hiss, "Nervous is miles away from what I'm feeling." She walked past him, giving him a perposefully wide berth, and made her way over to Rosie.

Azazel nodded. "I'll be waiting for you. Meet me in the warehouses, in San Francisco, in one week. If you don't, then you and the girl will die, no questions asked. If you are in trouble between now and then, simply think of me and I will arrive to assist. Don't let me down, Cat."
With that, he snapped his fingers, and the Firedancers disappeared. He looked at the two coldly for a moment before he, too, vanished.

She bristled at his use of her nickname-- that was what Spider-man called her, and she didn't want to associate that relationship with this one-- but said nothing, and the next moment he was gone. After a few seconds, she realized that she was shaking with pent up emotion and forced herself to stop. A minute or two later, she decided that she was calm enough for speech. "Come on," she said quietly to the little girl, "Bed."

Rosie stared for a moment at where the creatures and man had been. It wasn't who she was expecting to have been behind the door, but it wasn't exactly better either. That's not really what bothered her the most though. The woman obviously wasn't a hero, or at least not a good one with all the break-ins she'd done in the process of an hour or so...but she still stayed for her sake. She didn't really even know her either. And if it hadn't been for the bit of understanding her mother had implanted when she was created, she probably wouldn't have understood what the man was wanting. But she did.
"You didn't have to..." she trailed off quietly. Really she didn't. She was a clone after all, so it really didn't matter what happened to her.

"Oh, trust me, I'm not going to," she replied tersely, glaring at the spot where he'd last been, "He generously gave me an entire week, so I'm going to go get some help." The doctor, whatever his name was, had helped her with her powers before; maybe he could protect her. Of course, she had no idea where he was... And that left Spider-man. Much as she hated having to ask him for protection--talk about humiliating--it was her only option. "Will you be okay here until I get back, or do you want to find somewhere else to sleep?"

Rosie glanced back at her, then around the room a moment. When she looked back up at her, she gave her a small smile. "I think I'll be ok here. I'll just crawl into bed." she replied, then paused and glanced down to play with one of the rings on her fingers. "Thank you..."

Shocker had since finally gotten out of prison for trying to rob a bank owned by Lex Luthor. Which was kind of odd since Shocker heard from other guys in prison Lex was an enemy to the guy that stopped him from robbing the bank. Shocker had the impression Superman might be a little too above his morals to realize he was protecting an enemy. That didn't matter anymore; every hero and villain in New York was fighting at the Daily Bugle and Shocker was an opportunist. Shocker was at the largest bank in New York and as extra precautions he wore his Hammer Industry Vibro-Smashers to the party just in case Superdork showed up again.
"Nobody more...Yadda yadda yadda...You know the rest."
Shocker had his right smasher up pointing in several directions every few seconds to keep everyone on their toes as he made his way to the counter of the bank. This was his first time robbing this bank, so the procedure was a bit new for the clerk guy behind the desk. As the clerk reached under the desk, Shocker blasted the desk with just a tap of his smasher.
"Tsk tsk, don't think so."
Then Shocker heard beeping, like a phone was being dialed and he knew immediately to turn around and blast that area. A woman was attempting to call the police on him using a cell phone and he blasted her as she was on the floor, but she wasn't dead.
"No heroes, got it? Now everyone just shut up while I get my money."
The clerk was taking too long, but Shocker wasn't looking for a full withdrawal; just enough money to pay for the regular Vibro-Smashers Superman broke during their fight. Shocker didn't trust Hammer Industries to make him gauntlets without putting anything in them he didn't specify.

Black Cat couldn't hold back a small smile. " Of course. Make sure to take off most of that jewelry," she added, "Very uncomfortable." With that, she was out the window and swinging in the direction of the Daily Bugle. If Spider-man hadn't been there when she'd first noticed the commotion, he was definitely there now. She just hoped that he wouldn't be too distracted to listen to her.

 ENTER from Daily Bugle Shadow Spider rose out of a dark corner in an alley way a good couple blocks away from the Daily Bugle. She stepped away from her shadow and set Rosie on the ground. She glanced back down the street towards the building, then towards her shadow when she senced something arrive through it. The large man in the white suit appeared, and deciding that he wasn't worth too much of er time, she turned her attention back towards the street a moment. She'd leave her shadow open just a little longer, just in case anyone else decided to come through as well.

Rosie watched her leave, then turned to inspect the rest of the house. The place wasn't bad...not bad at all. After a moment of exploring, she found the master bedroom with a very soft looking king sized bed. She smiled a bit and moved towards the nightstand, carefully slipping off all of her new jewelry. Once she got to her sapphire necklace and diamond hair pin, she looked at them and smiled before setting them down, off and away from the other heap of glitter. She carefully made her way onto the bed and into the center, crawling under the covers and coming back to poke her head out. The bed was huge and looked like it nearly swallowed her. Well, it was comfortable, she should be able to drift off in no time.

Rosie glanced around once they emerged from the shadow again. That was kind of a fun way to travel. She felt a little better knowing that they were away from everything as well. Something felt familiar though...was one of her clones near by?
