Kumori the Shadow Prince
Dark Eldar haven't changed since 3rd edition... which is sad really... I mean everyone got an update except them...

Wrong. Dark Eldar, Necrons, Space Wolves, and both flavors of Inquisition were not updated. I believe Space Wolves will be the first of these with an update, followed by DE, with no current scheduling for the other three.

I've heard a lot of this army is better than that army. In my opinion, every single army is on an equal footing, i mean, ok, a squad of eldar guardians aren't going to destroy a baneblade easily but it's possible! In my opinion, if you know what you are doing, even the 'nids are amazing.

Well I don't know about all posters, but when most people say 'better' in this topic, we're talking about easier/less frustrating to learn to play with, not outright better. Marines for example, as jacks of all trades with a 3+ save, are easy to let yourself make some tactical mistakes and still pull your bacon out of the fire. You let yourself get charged with Marines, well, maybe you die, but probably your powerfist sargeant turns the tide. You get charged with Tau and you can probably kiss that unit goodbye.

I heard a rumor that they were going to change the "we'll be back rule" I personally hope they don't. The basis of the speculation said they they were basically going to make it into an altered version of "feel no pain".

This belongs in the Necron thread.

I generally hold that Orks are more 'fun' than Eldar, but pick the one you think you'll have fun with even if you lose. With Orks, you have to keep in mind that your effects are alot more random, and you have to be able to keep having fun if your Trukk kareens off and tank shocks some of your own boyz, or your Lootas only get one shot each all game, or if your Flash Gitz never manage to punch carapace.

Just one thing about the Trukk, it stops if it hits a unit on your own side, it stops 1" away from it, it only tank shocks enemy units (managed to blast a Rhino thanks to my kareen once, and took 5 marines with me while my boyz all survived! It was all planned...
But I'd say orks as well, it's a fun army, shooty as hell and awesome in combat, and it has alot of character in it, you can go either for a clan, tribe or awesome theme armies, like Freebooters, ork pirates... YARR!

Well with the new codex coming out for marines should i stick with them or Start another army thats my debat lol. I'm not treally the type who wants to win all the time i am just looking for another army to have fun with like i have with my marines. Basically so i can have two armies to play with instead of one so i can go back and forth between them when i am at stores or when i enter tournaments i dont have to just have one army.

The only reason that Space Marines got a new codex is because they are one of the 4 original races in the game. One possibility if you "want to remain loyal to the Emperor" and all that would be to get some Imperial Guard. They add a bit of a challenge compared to Space Marines because of lower stats, but then you can also use combinations of both in games.

Space Marines are the poster army of GW and get a revision with each new set of rules. Imperial Guard will have their codex revised May 2009.

Still, Space Marines are the best starter army, if you ignore the expensive toys and sophisticated units, especially the ones that come with the new codex you will see that it is a solid army for beginners with excellent choices and options that tie into the new mission structure and rule set.

Then again, this comes from a gamer's point of view, not a rules lawyer.

From a rules lawyer-y perspective, Marines are damned tough too. High Ld, good saves, high strength weaponry, and enough special rules to crush damned near anything with proper kitting out of the army.

I like the look and background of Chaos Space Marines but what does everyone think of Chaos as a starting army? Gameplay and Painting wise?
PostPosted: Sat Feb 14, 2009 7:47 pm

Gameplay wise, Chaos Space Marines (CSM) are great to play. They're tough, survivable, strong, and have lots of units that can make their army able to cater to however you want to play.

Painting wise they can really be a pain in the a**. There are a lot of details on the models and a lot of odd angles to deal with. They look good, though, even with light amounts of paint.

At first I was thinking of getting a CSM army, but the more I look at other armies, the more undecided I become. I have friends with SM, Orks and Tau, so I don't really want an army of those, and I've played Eldar and didn't think they were the greatest. Anyone have any advice for someone relatively new to the game?

I hope that's sarcasm Jason.

Daemons is the 4th worst army to play out there (not counting the Eye of Terror codexes).

Dark Eldar being at the bottom, followed by Space Wolves, then Necrons and finally Daemons.

Daemons is a hard army to play, and the only way to get a good chance for victory is to play pure Tzeentch.
