Haruka's second Pokemon appeared in a flash of light, spreading its wings wide and crowing loudly. Nova felt a chill creep down her spine when the bird's voice reached her ears but she shook it off, giving a low, threatening growl. She'd taken down that hippo thing, and now it was this noisy bird's turn! It seemed Kasiya was in complete agreement, quickly calling for Nova to use her Dragon Dance again. The Charmeleon complied, easily moving to an upbeat, mystical music that only she could hear, once again being covered in a fiery, indigo glow. She felt faster and more powerful, and she was eager to get her claws into the greyish bird.
"Staravia, Double Team!" Haruka called, wanting to make it as difficult as she could for the Charmeleon to hit her Pokemon, especially with those strong flames. The Starling Pokemon let out another loud call, its body flashing before it split into many different birds, all flying in formation with their gazes all locked on Nova. Once again, Nova felt a chill but she found it harder to shake it off this time. Kasiya called out for her to use another Flamethrower and Nova didn't hesitate to shoot off another torrent of flames at what she thought was the real Staravia. The flames smashed right through the first of the clones, forcing it to wink out of existence. It was hard to count the number of birds remaining in the flock, as they were moving far too fast, but both Kasiya and Nova knew that no matter how many remained, it was too much.
"Quick Attack, let's go!" Haruka called, continuing her usual, relentless attack style. Staravia and its copies all dove at Nova with incredible speed. Even after two Dragon Dances, the Charmeleon wasn't fast enough to avoid something like a Quick Attack. It was even hard to tell exactly which of the birds delivered the real attack and all Nova could do was roar out in pain from the deep cuts that appeared on her body.
=-=-=-=-= Mai blinked in surprise at Katie's eagerness, and she chuckled. "Well, I don't carry the forms around with me," she said, shooting a stern gaze at Kvarr as he'd finished his food and was eying Katie's Buneary almost hungrily. Mai didn't know if the Seviper intended on eating the Rabbit Pokemon's food or the Rabbit herself, but Mai wasn't going to let that happen. Despite his mean streak the serpent still respected his trainer and he shrunk back, glancing quickly at the remainder of the rose-coloured Typhlosion's meal, but Kero eyed the Seviper and growled. Mai had turned back to Katie and had missed the exchange, but she trusted that Serenity and Tanker could handle the rest of her team if they got out of hand. She adjusted one of her gloves and eyed the girl. "We'll have to go back to the Jubilife City HQ to do all of that, but it won't take long. Once we're done here, we'll fly back and spend the night there, and then I'll assign you your first mission."

"Dragon Rage!" Kasiya shouted, starting to feel a little panicked. She'd never really liked Double Team all that much, particularly when it was being used against her. She was never really able to come up with a good strategy for defeating the clones as fast as possible to find the real Pokemon, and usually by the time she did, her own Pokemon had taken more damage than she wanted them to. Nova's indigo flames once again fanned out, clipping the tail feathers of the nearest Staravia. Luck wasn't with Kasiya and Nova this time around as the fake bird disappeared, leaving four or five more birds still circling by overhead. If Nova were a Charizard, this would be over already, Kasiya thought, a pang of excitement shooting through her heart. She'd witnessed Nitro in battle many times over, and the fact that she couldn't recall ever seeing him lose only helped to bolster her belief in the Charizard's battle prowess. She did, however, know that Nova's eventual (if it even were to happen as she knew some Pokemon did choose not to evolve) evolution was a long way off, as she'd only just evolved into Charmeleon a few days ago. "Use Dragon Dance again," the girl said finally, hoping to get Nova's speed up even higher. If she was harder to hit as well, then Haruka and her Staravia were going to have to work harder as well. For the third time, Nova's feet began to move and she gathered power, and though she had full belief in her trainer's strategy, she couldn't help but start to feel a little bit impatient, if not anxious, to do something a little more productive, like lighting that Staravia ablaze.
"Staravia, it's time to wrap this one up! Use Wing Attack," Haruka called, her confident smile never wavering. The Starling Pokemon and its copies each gave a shrill cry in response, and soon the small flock was once again speeding towards Nova, all of their wings glowing in unison. Kasiya had the order on her lips for Nova to dodge, but the Charmeleon was way ahead of her. While she was certainly no acrobat, the fiery lizard was agile enough and she started to run, tucking her arms in before she jumped and did a forward somersault, narrowly avoiding being clipped by the real Staravia's wing. Out of the corner of the Charmeleon's eye, she saw the real thing look back at her, eyes narrowed, but by the time she righted herself, the Starling Pokemon had merged back into the safety of its mini-flock. Nova snorted out a puff of smoke in indignation, her impatience and anger both starting to grow.
=-=-=-=-= Flannery really hadn't thought it possible for her to be even more scared than she had been before, but as they walked, she could hear Mike speaking to them, and then to someone he addressed as 'Milo' and it gave her sharp chills despite the nearly suffocating heat from the Magma's volcano base. She knew she should be focusing on their goal rather than spend every moment worrying about him, but she couldn't help it. She was terrified that he was gone, beyond rehabilitation and she couldn't bear the thought of losing the Mike she grew up with forever. When he mentioned that they had one more door to go, the Lavaridge Gym Leader steeled her courage, and she stared up at the large stone doorway, wondering what waited for them behind it.
She had actually zoned out a bit, snapping out of it only when she found the area to be illuminated by two short blasts of fire. It seemed two grunts had come out of seemingly nowhere and Mike had startled them by demonstrating his new abilities, and by the time they'd recovered, Mike had vanished. Frowning, Flannery eyed the two grunts, and she looked back to see Keegan smirking at her. A spark went through her, and she smirked back, understanding exactly what he wanted her two do - it was time for double-Magma-grunt-take-down-action, and she was done being scared. The grunt lunged at her, and the gym leader let out a small yelp as he feinted around, managing to get a hold of her from behind. One strong arm went around her throat while the other held her arms back, as this particular Magma was quite tall, and muscular to boot. It was pretty safe to say that Flannery wasn't much of a brawler, like Keegan was, but she wasn't completely unable to defend herself, either. Using a move that the redhead had taught her long ago, she balanced herself and stomped down hard on the grunt's foot with her heel, praying he didn't wear steel-toed boots. Luckily, they were just plain leather loafers and the heel of her boot made solid impact, and the grunt howled in pain and released her. Flannery then pivoted on one foot, crouching low to deliver a sweeping kick that knocked the grunt to the ground, and then for good measure she planted her foot squarely in his groin. The caterwauling noise that came from the grunt was nothing like Flannery had ever heard come from a human being before, and it mixed eerily with the screams of the grunt Keegan had brought down, at least until the other Lavaridge native silenced him. Taking a cue from her redheaded partner, Flannery knelt down and punched the grunt between the eyes, causing him to hit the back his head on the ground, and he went out like a light. "Err, sorry," she whispered, standing up and brushing herself off while trying to ignore the throbbing pain in her knuckles from her strike. She made eye contact with Keegan long enough for them to let each other know they were fine, and then they set out to find Mike, as it was definitely unwise to let the boy roam around on his own in his current state of mind.

"Nice dodge, Nova," Kasiya commented, her mind racing through her Pokemon's available attacks. Nova's Dragon Claw is easily her strongest move now thanks to all that powering up, the girl thought, lips pursed. Flamethrower is best to deal with the flock, but if we can get in close, I wager one Dragon Claw and it would all be over. She eyed the Staravia in the sky, and frowned. Getting them close would be the problem, though she had an idea of how to start erasing the clones. She didn't give the Charmeleon an order just yet, much to Nova's annoyance, but the hot-headed Fire-type remained calm for the time being. When Haruka ordered another Wing Attack, Kasiya told her to stay in place, and it was then that Nova knew what her trainer wanted. She braced herself for impact while readying a Flamethrower in the back of her throat. As the birds swooped in toward her, she waited until they were virtually right in front of her face before spewing out the flames, making it as wide as possible to try and encompass all of the clones.
The flames did exactly what Kasiya and Nova hoped they would, which was fan out and cover enough area to engulf all of the Staravia at once. Since the clones didn't hold much substance to them, so the Flamethrower didn't have to be overly powerful for it to eradicate the remaining copies, leaving a single Staravia alone, and vulnerable. "Nice job," Haruka said, chuckling. "Your Charmeleon is quite clever, I must admit that. However, my Staravia isn't finished just yet. Now use Quick Attack, once again!" The Starling Pokemon gave another loud trill and tucked its wings in, looping around in the air before coming in toward Nova.
Kasiya knew that Haruka was relying on Quick Attack simply because it was the only move that could still outrun the speed-boosted Charmeleon, but despite that she and Nova had to get Dragon Claw to hit. "Hold your ground, Nova! Dragon Claw when it hits you!" the blonde shouted. She didn't like the idea of having Nova take a hit, but in this case it would be the only way to land a hit on their Flying-type target. The Charmeleon dug in her heels, claws curling into the earth to give her more hold. She bared her teeth as the bird flew at her, doing her best to not look as intimidated as she felt. Her claws shone with the same draconic, purple energy as before and she waited until she could see the whites of Staravia's eyes, and the details in its crest feathers to lash out. Her claws found their mark and she gave a roar as she slashed forward, ignoring the pain she felt in her own chest from the Staravia's claws. With a final growl she pushed her opponent back, flames practically dripping from her mouth in anticipation of finishing it off. It wouldn't be necessary, however, as the Staravia simply fluttered back and fell to the ground, its legs twitching.
=-=-=-=-= Having lunch had definitely made Karrigan feel better, but the nervousness over her upcoming battle still lingered. She hadn't actually battled all that much in her career as a trainer, though she did have at least a few wins under her proverbial belt. She plucked the Pokeball from her belt that contained her new Vulpix and she held it tightly, hoping the little fox would quickly have a change of heart and realize that she'd been made part of a great team. The Pokemon Center came into view rather quickly, and Karrigan picked up her pace. It had been a while since she last fed her Pokemon, though she wasn't certain what Aegeus would eat. The Onix feasted on rocks, which were plenty abundant, but she didn't want the Rock Snake chomping down on just any random boulder. She frowned at that thought, wishing she'd considered how tricky it would be to feed such a creature before she'd captured it. They timed their arrival at the Pokemon Center well, as it was rather empty save for a few trainers seeking healing for their Pokemon. It was rather nice to bypass that step for once, and after a bit of looking around (the Celadon Pokemon Center was very large, larger perhaps, than the one in Saffron had been, possibly to accommodate all of the shoppers) they found the corridor that lead them to the cafeteria.
"It's very nice here," Karrigan complimented, blinking at the vast sea of tables spread out before them. There were more people in here, most of whom kept to themselves or in groups of two or three. It was easy enough to find a place for them to settle down, and Karrigan released Ikouma and Lennier from their Pokeballs, as she knew Ikouma would help her without being asked, and Lennier would likely offer, as well. She knew better than to release Zaira as the Shinx would be off like a shot, and she didn't know how Amber would get along with everyone else. Poor Aegeus was just too big to fit indoors. It didn't take long for the redhead to pick out meals for each of her Pokemon, and even the server gave her options for Aegeus. While they didn't serve rocks per se, they did serve a special variety of Pokemon food that had been enriched with all the minerals a healthy Rock-type could want. As she returned to their table, she set out the bowls accordingly, releasing her Shinx only when her food was ready. She'd taken Aegeus' meal to go, and finally, she released the Vulpix, who appeared in a flash of light, sitting quite pretty as she stared up at her new trainer, just waiting. Her golden-coloured eyes flashed over to Amy for just a second, but they were focused back on Karrigan in an instant.
=-=-=-=-= The Geodude had let out an indignant grunt as his Rock Throw had been intercepted, but the leafy green thing in front of him looked like a much worthier opponent than the stupid-looking spiky human. As though it were plucking a handful of soft snow after a blizzard, it hauled up another rock which it threw at Grotle. Jake, still slightly shaken from being used for target practice, opened his mouth to give a command, but stopped when he heard a yell from Jade. He turned his head in time to see her tumble backwards down the stony staircase, and his blue eyes went wide with worry. Meanwhile, Grotle took a rock to the face, but the tough little Grass-type shook it off, giving his back a shake and sending a flurry of Razor Leaves at his opponent. Jake's gaze moved from the dark passage where Jade had fallen back to his Pokemon, unsure of which of the situations should be his top priority. He remembered then that Grotle had a big advantage over the Geodude, and he nearly tripped and sent himself flying down the stairs as he stumbled over to them. "Jade!" he shouted, his voice sounding eerily haunting as it echoed all around him. "Are you okay? Do you need help?"
The Geodude had thrown up its arms in an X shape to defend itself from the Razor Leaf attack, and it had been somewhat effective. It had taken some damage, and it glared at Grotle, daring it to attack again. Grotle took a wary step back, a bit apprehensive of his opponent's attitude. It wasn't that he really wanted to fight, it was more that this creature had chucked a rock at Jake, and he couldn't sit there and let it happen. He glanced over at Jake, who was checking on Jade, and the Grove Pokemon growled, a rare sound, and focused its gaze on the Rock-type. He initiated an Absorb attack, which seemed to distort the air between the two Pokemon, and soon greenish orbs, which held the Geodude's life energy, were traversing back to Grotle, healing him of any damage the previous Rock Throw had done. The Grass-type allowed himself a small cheer, as he now felt refreshed and energized.

Mike let out a loud breath as he pushed the large steel door shut. "Heavy." he said in a masterful statement of the obvious. "Hope that slows them down a bit."
"You'd think one in your condition would welcome assistance." said a suave, familiar voice behind him. Mike turned to see the last of the Three Fires, Mack, standing between him and the final door to the Magma Leader. "Welcome back, Mike." Mack said with a cocky smirk. "You look positively terrible." The Magma admin in question however, was the very picture of young male beauty. His smooth skin and feminine facial features were accented to near perfection by long flowing locks of blond hair.
"I've had a rough few days." Mike retorted, popping his neck.
"So I've seen!" Mack nearly cheered. "I saw your entire collapse on the news. In fact, we all did! It was amazing! The way Giovanni pounded your face into the railing, and then told everyone your deepest darkest secrets as you collapsed into a sobbing pile in the dirt. It was pure poetry, nothing less." Mack shook his head, his wide grin evidence of his barely-contained joy. Mike said nothing, glaring at Mack. "But then you had to go any take it all personal and trash the place." he said, his smile fading somewhat. "Not that it matters. Once I'm through with you, you'll be as...what did Courtney say? A 'drooling mess on the floor'?" Mack raised two Pokeballs in the air, releasing two unspectacular looking Slugma. While a high ranking administrator of a crime organization having two weak-looking Pokemon with him would be cause for celebration, Mike remained attentive as they were called out.
Mack took in deep, satisfying breath. "You know exactly why I'm here, Mike. Why Maxie picked me of all people to be his last line of defense." He looked at his two Pokemon and smirked. "We all know you're hanging on by a thread. I'm just here to cut the final string." Mike took a step back at the admin's threat, his eye twitching. He did know why Mack was the one chosen. Maxie knew that he could undoubtedly defeat any caliber trainer that Team Magma had at their disposal either on his own or with his friends, but Mack was different. He wasn't your standard trainer. Mike reached into his nearly-destroyed outfit and took out Nitro's Pokeball and released him. "Brute force?" Mack said with scoff, eyeing the Charizard. Mike looked behind him and issued a command to his Charizard, who about-faced and unleashed a bright stream of flames at the steel door behind them. When the smoke cleared, the door had been fused into a single metal slab. Mack narrowed his eyes.
"Hope that slows them down a bit." Mike repeated. Mack frowned.
"You'll be wishing you hadn't done that." the admin said, raising his hands. On command, his Slugma both began releasing a green haze from their pores that began to fill the room. "In minutes, I'll have you clawing at that door! Screaming, just begging me to let you out!"

The green haze soon completely covered Mack and his Pokemon, and was fast filling the room. "I do hope you and your friends have enjoyed the light dusting I've given them." said the admin. "Thankfully a light dose of this gas will have little to no effect on our own members, but it certainly has made your friends a bit more skittish, I'd say." Mike could tell from the direction of his voice that he was moving inside the cloud. "But as for you. I think you can tell that this won't be a light dose." As the haze crept towards him, Mike began to notice it shifting rather unnaturally. From inside the cloud burst a hand, covered in cuts and blood. It grabbed at the air, as if trying to grip onto something. Mike felt the instinct to reach out, but quickly pulled his hand back.
"Nitro." He said calmly. "I'd rather not let that gas touch me. Would you please make sure of that?" The Charizard took a step forward and began to beat his wings, creating a strong gust of wind that began to push back the smoke.
"Are you sure you want to do that?" Mack's voice called out from a new location. As if a living creature itself, the smoke then spread out from the gust and converged on Nitro, forming into a massive wave of water. The Charizard roared in shock, and lifted off the ground seconds before the wall of water came crashing down.
"Nitro!" Mike cried out. "It's not real! It's an illusion! He's using the smoke to trick us!" The boy's words fell on deaf ears, however. For as much as the Charizard was concerned, the water that continued to following him no matter where he seemed to fly was as real as it was from any ocean. "Nitro!" Mike shouted in hopes to snap his Pokemon out of it. No use. "Dammit!" He raised the dragon's Pokeball and recalled him. Mack laughed. Mike turned around, the smoke all but surrounded him now.
"Not real?" Mack said, his voice seemingly amplified by the smoke. "Mike, out of all the people here you should know the most about what isn't real, but let me show you something that is real." The smoke swirled around Mike, whose eyes were now wide in fear as he saw the cloud disperse from the room in one single rush, revealing an all too familiar scene before him: Lilycove City.
"No! No no no!" Mike said, slamming his eyes shut and opening them, hoping to be met with the green haze again. To his horror, the city remained. Mike towered over the small city like a movie monster. He took a step back only to have it met with a terrible crashing noise. As the boy looked down, he noticed that not only had he just crushed the Pokemon Center and sent many tiny screaming people fleeing for their lives, but his foot had taken on a rather odd shape. It was large and red, covered in strange black markings and had three sharp, white claws on the end of it. Mike gasped, a deep-chested roar escaping his mouth, and raised his foot reflexively. In the surprise, he lost his balance and slammed it down on the ground, causing a massive shockwave which scarred the earth beneath him. As he tried to catch his balance, he noticed that his hands had changed shape too. They sported similar red skin, runic markings and claws. The realization caused his heart to sink as one of the people on the ground looked up and screamed.
"It's Groudon! Run for your lives!"

"Staravia, no," Haruka sighed sadly, holding up her fainted Pokemon's Pokeball and recalling it. "You were great, but we've still got a lot of training to do." She clipped the ball back on her belt and ran her fingers through her short, blonde hair. "Seems I underestimated you again, Kasiya. I really need to stop doing that." Her smile was genuine as she prepared her third and final Pokeball, holding it up for Kasiya to see. "Given your first Pokemon used in this battle, I'm willing to bet you'll get a kick out of this one. Prinplup, it's all up to you now!"
"Huh?" Kasiya blinked a few times, not sure what Haruka meant by that. The sphere flew, and from it came a blue Pokemon that very much reminded Kasiya of Alphonse. "Prinplup? Wait a minute, that's…" she trailed off as she once again accessed her PokeDex. "Prinplup, the Penguin Pokemon, and the evolved form of Piplup. Because every Prinplup considers itself to be the most important, they can never form a group. Its wings can deliver wicked strikes capable of snapping trees." She looked from the Prinplup back to her PokeDex, eyes wide. "No way, you have a Piplup, too?"
"No," Haruka grinned, "I had a Piplup. As you can see, it evolved to its next stage, and it won't be long before it evolves again. In fact, that could be today! Prinplup, let's blast them away with your Bubblebeam!" The larger Penguin Pokemon slapped its webbed foot down in front of it, eyes narrowed at the Charmeleon. Its beak suddenly snapped open and a concentrated stream of bubbles was sprayed at Nova, moving far too quickly for her to avoid. She roared out in pain as they burst up against her scaly skin, causing severe damage.
"Nova, no! Fight back with a Dragon Rage!" Kasiya called, still marvelling over the fact that she and Haruka had yet another Pokemon in common. Drastically weakened from the super-effective hit she'd just taken, Nova tried to stand strong, but her trainer could see that she was looking tired, even as she expelled a heavy blast of purplish-blue flames at the Prinplup. It didn't have the range it normally had, but it was enough to scorch the Penguin Pokemon and he cried out and staggered back, though far from defeated.

"No wait!" Mike cried out, but what came out was a terrifying snarl and a blast of energy that blasted a crater where that man, and many other people were standing, incinerating them. Mike screamed, turning away from the sight, only to have his massive tail crash into the department store and send it crumbing to the ground. "Stop! Please stop!" he wailed, shaking his head.
"This is your doing!" Mack shouted. "Look around you at all the destruction, all the death. It might as well have been you knocking the buildings down yourself!"
"I didn't know." Mike said, shaking his head. "I didn't think that-"
"Didn't think that what? Didn't think that stealing an ancient artifact that helped seal a giant and powerful Pokemon would cause some collateral damage? You're dumber than I thought." Mack said with a laugh.
"I was promised no one would get hurt!" Mike screamed, clutching his head. "He said it was for the defense of our home! For the people of Hoenn! He said it would keep everyone safe! I trusted him!"
"Well it didn't go as well as we'd planned." Mack said with a huff. "If that damn dragon hadn't shown up, Maxie would have fully adjusted to controlling Groudon and we would have buried Team Aqua and their stupid whale, and made habitats for people and Pokemon alike!" The admin became increasingly angry, causing the ground to shake beneath Mike as more buildings came crumbling down.
"Stop!" Mike shrieked, closing his eyes. "Just make it stop!" He roared wildly, thrashing his head back and forth in another attempt to return to reality. "I didn't meant to do this! If I-I-I only knew. I wouldn't have even joined!" There was an echo to his voice, followed by silence. No buildings, no earthquakes, but it was the chill that ran up his spine that caused Mike to open his eyes. Looming above him with crossed arms, was Milo, who Mike could tell was clearly annoyed with him despite his constant, half-moon like smile.
Are we quite done with this little sandbox game? the shadow said with a sigh. While I admire this kid's methods, we're not getting anywhere with you wallowing in your own misery. There's plenty of time for that when this is over. And besides. It's my job. He rapped his long fingers as he awaited a response.
"I don't know what do to!" Mike screamed. "I can't...I can't...all these people!"
Are not real. Milo said, his voice sounding more annoyed than anything. It's just smoke and mirrors. I can't believe you're letting this wimpy little guilt trip stop us when you're right at the end. Milo snapped his fingers, blasting away the Lilycove scene in a wave of fire and returning Mike to his normal form and surrounding him with green smoke. Now quit being the perpetual baby that you are and take this fool down.
"How do I do that?" Mike said, struggling to his feet.
"Who are you talking to?" asked Mack. "What are you doing?"
Let's give him a real sight, shall we? chuckled Milo. A smile crept over Mike's face as he reached into his pocket and pulled out an Ultra ball.

In a flash Kenny, Turn A, Xannon, and Hera appeared in front of the three of them. Dante really did not care to much he used in this upcoming contest, he was sure they were going to have him open up with Apollo though. The battle was what was important right now. Leaning back into the bench again he brushed his hand over the egg that rested in his lap and watched the others curiously as they went over to his pokemon and started to poke around them.
"This is better then I thought it would be." The punk stated as he took out a pokedex and scanned them all in. The male counterpart of his contest team scanned the moves that they all knew and nodded, they all seemed to have a verity of different moves available to them. "Ok, well it looks like you actually do know what you are doing when it comes to battles, that is surprising actually."
Dante felt a little bite at his pride at that comment. Of course he knew what he was doing! Just because he was back to being a trainer somewhat recently and the only members of his team that were familular to him were Kenny and Apollo, he had caught Hera recently and was getting pretty used to the Heracross. Still, he just had to get used to his other pokemon was all, that was only something that time and countless battles would give him so going by his record since coming back he would say he was a damn fine trainer. He didn't say that though and instead just pouted somewhat as the two started to talk.
"Hm, well, he would do well in the contests with all of these pokemon. However with the personality we are going for I think that either the Duskull or the Porygon2." The female half of his contest consultants tapped her finger over her lip as she looked at the others.
At her proclamation Hera looked upset, she wanted to be picked to do battle! The Heracross shuffled over to where Dante was seated and gave him an upset look. Dante just shook his head and grinned at her. "You don't want to be a part of this battle Hera." Was all he said as he put her back into her pokeball. Xannon didn't seem to care and just made a low hum as he spun around lazily before he went to stand in the nearby sun. Dante decided to let the Baltoy stay out a little longer since he didn't get out all that often. So that left the two others standing in front of the other two. The auburn haired boy watched and wondered a bit, as the two normally very well behaved, when not around each other, pokemon seemed to get into a fight over who could help in something they had no idea of. Really Dante was pretty sure they didn't care what it was they just didn't want the other to compete. The two shoved at each other, though how that was happening Dante had no idea since Turn A was a normal type and Kenny was a ghost type, maybe Turn A had used Conversion? Either way Dante had no idea, he just watched in amusement as they tried to hide their struggles and make themselves look better.
Dante half listened to the other two discussed between the two. It seemed like they were leaning more towards Kenny, the ghost pokemon was the more elegant of the two and he was pretty cute, he also had the wider range of moves then the other. Just as they seemed to decide on the Duskull there was a sudden bit of darkness and when they all looked over they discovered that Kenny had decided to throw a wrench in their plans. While normally that would have cemented his being picked this time it didn't quite have the exact same effect.

"I can't believe she's still standing after that," Haruka said, genuinely surprised. "But it's time to put her down. Prinplup, use Brine." Her voice had an edge to it that made Kasiya feel uneasy, and the younger trainer could only look on as the Water-type opened his mouth and unleashed a salty spray of water that Nova tried to avoid, but she'd run out of steam. A second super-effective hit, and one that did double damage when its target's health was below half was more than enough to take her down and the Charmeleon collapsed weakly, eyes fluttering closed.
"Nova… you were incredible," Kasiya said, forcing a smile as she recalled the Fire-type. "Nitro would be proud of you, you know that, right?" She kissed the sphere before putting it back on her belt, sizing up the Prinplup. She wished that Alphonse hadn't been KO'd so that he could watch his evolved form in action and perhaps learn a thing or two, but it wasn't a possibility right now. Kasiya selected a third and final Pokeball, enlarged it with a press of the center button, and let it fly. "Okay Rosemary, time to shine!" The sphere hit the ground and burst open, revealing a Pokemon that made Kasiya's mouth drop. Instead of releasing the leafy saurian that should have been her Meganium, she'd in fact released Twilight, her Umbreon. The Dark-type looked over his shoulder at the girl, very confused as to why she'd called him out. He was sure that she knew as well as he did that he wasn't much of a battler, but as he looked back at the opposing Pokemon, standing there with its flippers crossed over its chest defiantly, his amber eyes narrowed.
"Rosemary?" repeated Haruka, quite taken aback. "That's an awfully strange name for an Umbreon, though I have to say he has lovely markings. Quite different from the ones my Umbreon has."
Kasiya gave a sheepish laugh, feeling her cheeks flush hot with embarrassment. "Um, that's not the Pokemon I meant to call out," she explained, scratching the back of her head. "This is Twilight. Rosemary's my Meganium." She was certain that Haruka's opinion of her would lower from the blunder, but the older trainer seemed to find it more amusing than anything else. She'd also forgotten that Haruka had an Umbreon as well, totalling the number of Pokemon they both owned to four - Haruka also had an Arcanine and Persian.

"I see." The older trainer continued to smile. "Call him back if you want to, I don't mind if you'd prefer to send out your Grass-type."
Kasiya looked to Twilight again, who looked back at her, his expression unreadable. "Well, he can battle if he wants to," she offered. The Dark-type, despite his apparent dislike for battling and confrontation seemed to ponder the offer for a moment or two, and he finally looked back at Kasiya and nodded once. The girl smiled, glad he was on board with this. She knew he wasn't one to willingly jump into fights and that he often complied with most anything just to avoid confrontation, both of which could be attributed to his passive nature, but she'd seen him fight and knew that when provoked, he could become just as competitive and eager to win as any Pokemon. "Okay Twilight, let's win this one together," she called out, prompting a single flick of an ear as a response. "Start off with Quick Attack!"
The Dark-type's golden eyes were still narrowed as he darted forward, the white light left in his wake seemingly streaked with the blue from the glowing rings on his dark-coloured body. His ears went flat as he neared his target and he jumped, throwing his weight into the stomach of the Prinplup. The Water-type staggered but didn't fall, glaring angrily at the Umbreon as he backed off. "He's fast," remarked Haruka. "Prinplup, Metal Claw!" The Penguin Pokemon gave a cry and rushed forward, his right flipper raised high in the air. It took on a steely hue as he brought it down, catching the Umbreon in the shoulder as he tried to evade it. Both Haruka and Kasiya knew this match would be much more even in terms of experience levels than the past two had been, and they both grinned.
"Twilight, use Confuse Ray!"
"Prinplup, Fury Attack!"
The two Pokemon's harsh glares intensified upon hearing their commands, each preparing to execute their moves. The blue ring on Twilight's forehead began to shimmer and pulsate, sending out a hypnotic wave that Prinplup found difficult to ignore as it charged forward. For now it managed to stave off confusion and began to thrust its head forward, landing several sharp pecks to the surprised Umbreon's body. Though the strikes hurt, Twilight refused to cry out and instead threw himself forward into the mildly dazed Water-type with a Tackle on Kasiya's command. Perhaps the Prinplup's willpower was strong, or Kasiya and Twilight were just unlucky this time as the Confuse Ray had already worn off, and once again the Penguin Pokemon prepared to attack. "Brick Break!" Haruka called, her voice tinged with the slightest hint of excitement. Kasiya remembered her previous battle with Haruka, and how her excitement had picked up near the end, even though Kasiya had taken command it by then, and she grinned broadly, happy to be able to just lose herself in a normal battle, and not have to fear for her, or her friends' lives.

"Twilight, now would be a good time to use Protect," Kasiya called, remembering then that Twilight was a Dark-type and that a Fighting-type move, such as Brick Break, would be quite damaging, even though the Umbreon sported more defensive abilities than the other members of his evolution family. Twilight didn't need to be told a second time and in an instant, he'd summoned the protective green barrier, which manifested just in time to block Prinplup's flipper as it came down in a powerful, downward chop. The barrier shimmered with the impact but held up, keeping Twilight safe, at least for now. The Penguin Pokemon trilled in annoyance and hopped back, eyes narrowed at the Dark-type .
"My Umbreon knows Protect as well," Haruka commented, seemingly pleased with Kasiya's strategy so far. "He's got quite the attitude, though." She nodded to her own Pokemon once again. "Bubblebeam, let's go!"
A little confused by the second comment, Kasiya called for the Umbreon to dodge, though Prinplup quickly adjusted its aim so that it was firing where Twilight would be, and naturally the bubbles caught up to the Dark-type and struck him quite squarely in the side. The Umbreon's amber eyes flashed in anger and he snapped his head in the direction of the Prinplup and snarled, something Kasiya had never seen him do until just now. Perhaps there was a lot more to the reclusive, quiet Dark-type than she'd initially thought, though now that Haruka had brought it up, Kasiya realized that she still didn't know Twilight all that well yet. I really need to fix that, she thought, recalling the fabulous performance that Ryka had put on with Allegra in last night's contest. It seemed the now-Delcatty had already formed quite a bond with her new trainer, and while Kasiya was glad for Allie, she couldn't help but feel the tiniest bit jealous. We just need more time together, the girl reassured herself as she nodded to her Pokemon. "Twilight, let's try and slow them down with Toxic," she called. The blue ring on the Umbreon's forehead glimmered with a sickly, purplish hue and a volley of viscous liquid of the same colour was launched at the Prinplup.
"Dodge it, Prinplup!" Haruka had cried, but Twilight's aim was true and there was no where for the Water-type to run to. The Toxic splashed all over him, sizzling and bubbling as the toxins began to work their magic. Now aware of the fact that time was starting to run short, Haruka's smile turned serious. "Ice Beam, now," she called. Refusing to show that he was in pain of any sort, the Penguin raised his flippers high overhead, a frosty glow forming between the tips. With a cry he thrust it forward, forming it into a frigid, icy ray that sped through the air at Twilight.

"Protect!" Kasiya cried, once again just in time as the Ice Beam smashed up against Twilight's shining barrier. The effect was rather gorgeous, with the pale blue of the Ice Beam meshing well with the green of the Protect and making for quite the light show. If that weren't enough, greenish blue flakes of snow drifted down all around the Umbreon as his shield lowered, and for a moment Kasiya marvelled at it. "That's… amazing," she murmured, completely taken in by the dazzling, albeit accidental, combination that had just been pulled off.
Haruka, lacking the artistic eye needed to be a successful contest coordinator, didn't see the beautiful combination in front of her. However, she did see the opening Kasiya left for her when she didn't come up with another attack right away. "Prinplup, now's your chance! Metal Claw!" Once again the tough water bird rushed forward, his wingtips glimmering with a hint of steel. With a loud cry he slashed at Twilight, leaving two painful-looking gashes in the Umbreon's side.
Kasiya didn't realize her blunder until the Metal Claw had already hit, and she mentally slapped herself in the forehead, feeling horribly guilty for leaving Twilight prone to an attack like that. "Sand-attack!" the girl called, and Twilight quickly swept up a cloud of sand into his opponent's face, a task which would have been much tougher if it weren't for all the sand lingering on the grassy field due to the Hippopotas' Sandstorm from much earlier. Prinplup cried out in panic from its temporary blindness and swiped at its eyes, and Kasiya didn't waste this opportunity to call for Twilight to knock it down with a Quick Attack. Both Pokemon were starting to look tired, but it was obvious that neither of them were ready to quit just yet.

"Now follow up with a Faint Attack!" Kasiya shouted again, deciding to show Haruka that she wasn't the only one who could be relentless with their attacks. Twilight seemed to be very into this fight, and he rushed at Prinplup, a dark energy engulfing him before he vanished. He reappeared behind the blinded penguin and lashed out with a sucker punch, knocking the already vulnerable Pokemon to the ground. "Nice work," Kasiya called as he returned to his position in front of her, ears and tail all tilted back to make him look rather fearsome. If I'd known that Twilight was this tenacious, I would have battled with him more often, she thought. Her Jolteon, Flash, was prideful, stubborn and outwardly showed his eagerness to battle, and she'd always assumed that just because he and Twilight were brothers didn't mean their personalities had to be the same. It seemed that it just took a little more provoking to bring out Twilight's darker side, no pun intended, of course.
Haruka grit her teeth, quickly studying the situation. Her Pokemon was at a disadvantage by both the poison and having his vision impaired, though she was sure that if she could somehow remedy the latter of those two disadvantages, her Prinplup could come out of this as the victor before he succumbed to the Toxic's effects. "Prinplup, listen up!" she called. "Use Bubble, but spin! Bring them close to you!" she called. Her plan was a bit on the gimmicky side, but she had to take a chance. The poisoned Prinplup did as he was told, spinning as he released a lengthy stream of bubbles that quickly surrounded him as they were taken in by his momentum.
If Kasiya didn't know any better, she would have thought she stumbled into a contest battle. The bubble tornado was appealing, but it alone probably wouldn't have been worth very many points. She smiled, seeing an opportunity and she quickly set her Pokemon back on the attack. Twilight raced towards his opponent with another Faint Attack, disappearing and reappearing in a cloud of darkness. This time, however, as he lashed out to make his strike, the bubbles intercepted him, causing him some passive damage and effectively padding the attack from doing full damage to Prinplup. The bursting bubbles also had the effect of creating a shower of water droplets which was more than enough to help wash the sand out of the Pokemon's eyes. "Brick Break!" Haruka called, wanting to strike while the Umbreon was close. The Toxic continued to sap the Water-type's energy, steadily gaining strength the longer it lingered within the Pokemon's body.
Prinplup's flipper glowed brightly as he raised it up, ignoring the weariness that was steadily growing within him. He brought the appendage down hard, only to find it blocked by yet another glowing green barrier. Not one to give up lightly, Haruka called for another Brick Break and Prinplup did just that, following up his first strike with a second. Twilight's barrier faltered a bit, but it wasn't until the third strike came down that the Protect shattered. Prinplup's powerful flipper came down hard, smashing the Umbreon square between the shoulders and sending him face-first into the dirt. His body twitched a few times before becoming still, and at that moment in time, both Kasiya and Haruka knew the battle was over.

Amy thought of her Pokemon as they headed for the Pokecenter, realizing that neither Marshall or Flora knew of their new partner. Well, other than the fact that Marshall had battled him, but she wasn't sure that either of them would take too kindly to each other... She frowned at the possibility of there being some sort of animosity in her team. They all had to get along enough to work together, she knew, but what happened if they didn't? She bit her bottom lip at the thought as they continued into the spacious Celadon Pokecenter, trying to find their way into the cafeteria. Flora can settle things if need be, she thought to herself, knowing that the Grass-type was likely to be the mother figure to her team anyways. She could help Amy control any squabbles, if there were any.
"It is," Amy agreed quietly, not really noticing the ambiences of the Pokecenter but now she paid attention to them since Karrigan had drawn attention to how nice it was. She smiled some; it was nice, she realized. Everything in this city seemed very nice. The trainer released her Bayleef after Karrigan released Ikouma and Lennier, exchanging smiles with the Grass-type. "You have a new friend, Flora," Amy said as she collected three bowls of food and set it down. The Leaf Pokemon tilted her head quizzically until Amy released Marshall and Lee, the former of which grinned widely and began to eat while the latter simply stood there, staring between Marshall, Flora, and Amber.
"Flora, Marshall, this is your new teammate. His name is Lee," Amy said quietly, placing a gentle hand on the Tyrogue's head. The Fighting-type looked back up at her with wide, shocked eyes, but she only smiled at him reassuringly. "Lee, this is Marshall, and that's Flora. They're my Pokemon, too." Flora greeted him with a happy cry; Marshall's face was in his bowl and the only response Lee got from him was the sound of enthusiastic crunching. Finally, the Scuffle Pokemon sat down and began to eat politely, eyes still warily focused on the Vulpix that ate not so far away.

"I'm fine; go worry about your own stupid battle!" the raven-haired girl cried back irritably, the sting on her arms becoming more pronounced now. Perfect, that was just perfect, of course she would fall down the stairs. It was total karma after those knee jokes about Jake earlier, but Jade still didn't like it one bit. Neither did she like the way that Psyduck across the stairs was looking at her, with wide eyes full of some sort of curiousity that was somewhat unsettling. "What? So I fell down the stairs, big deal, you don't have to look at me like that." She began to make her way back up the stairs.
"Psy," the Psyduck cried again, reaching out a small, fat little arm. The girl paused and turned towards the Water-type with an arched eyebrow. What did it want? "Psyduck!" It jumped up and down, flailing its little arms. Its fins seemed to direct to one object: the Pokeball on her belt. "Psy, Psyduck!" Jade glanced down at the Pokeballs and let out a scoff of disbelief.
"You actually want me to catch you?" The Psyduck only let out another small cry and jumped up and down. Jade looked into its eyes again and saw that same look Solaris had when she found her in the wild: hopeful. Jade's expression softened a little and she took a step down, reaching for a Pokeball. But much to the Psyduck's disappointment, it wasn't an empty one: Jade tossed it into the air and out emerged her Vulpix, who let out a small cry at the sudden darkness and landed a bit ungracefully. "All right, then. Let's see how well you can battle. You already have the advantage, so go for it!" Sorry Solaris, but we could be one step closer to having a strong team with this little duckling here. The Fire-type in question glanced incredulously at her trainer, but she needed to be thinking quicker on her feet, because that little duckling was charging towards her across the small span of the stone steps, a Scratch attack at the ready.

"What's going on?" Mack said to himself, looking at his two Slugma. "Is the gas still working?" The silence from his once whimpering target was unsettling. The downside of using this much smoke was that without any sound, he was completely unaware of where Mike was. A noise rang out from the smoke. A Pokeball! Was it one or two? It sounded far away.
From the distance, the Magma admin heard a low boom, following by a churning noise that quickly became known as a massive wave of water heading his way. Before he could scream, the wave crashed down on him and his two Pokemon. It washed the two Slugma away, and sent Mack spiraling to the ground. The water had dispersed most of the haze; just enough for the admin to see Mike running at full speed towards him when he opened his eyes. Black smoke poured from the wound on his head, and when he saw that Mack was defenseless, he began to laugh. In seconds, the tables had turned.
"Fancy tricks!" Mike shouted, reaching down and grabbing Mack by his collar with both hands. The boy's words echoed in his mind, causing the admin to look around in confusion and terror. Mike smiled. "You tried getting in my head. I actually got in yours." From behind the battered boy stepped Portabello, Mike's Breloom, whose eyes glowed an eerie blue color. "I'd like to introduce you to someone." Mike said with a low cackle. Long, sickle like fingers wrapped around Mack's face.
Hello, Mack. Milo said softly, wrapping his shadow-like body around the Magma admin and bringing his bright white eyes to his. The admin froze at the sight of him. Allow me to show you something really interesting. Milo raised a finger and pressed it against Mack's forehead, then voraciously dug both hands into the boy's head. Mack screamed as voices and images began to overload his brain.
"It's so loud! It's so loud! Why is it so loud!?" the admin yelled, looking up at Mike with widened eyes. His fright only excited Mike and Milo further, and both joined in to laugh at the admin as he soon withdrew into a crumpled, drooling, catatonic mess on the floor.
Portabello looked down at the now disposed admin, then back at Mike. What now, master? he asked. Mike stood for a moment and thought, Milo mimicking the boy's pondering posture. The Breloom glared at the shade. After a moment, Mike knelt down and grabbed Mack and dragged him by the leg to the wall. He placed his hand on a seemingly normal rock and pressed on it. A section of the wall rotated to reveal a tube, and he stuffed the unresponsive admin down it with a stomp of his foot.
"Sweet dreams." Mike said with a smile. Irony was ever so sweet. A banging noise on the door alerted him that now was not the time to revel in sweet victory. "Portabello." he said. "You stay behind with Milo. I need you to help stall the rest of our friends so I can defeat Maxie without anyone getting hurt."
Stall? asked the Breloom. I don't understand. Won't you need their help? Is that not why you brought them here in the first place?
"Maxie is a terrible and dangerous person. The less people I have to worry about protecting, the easier it will be to take him down." explained Mike. "The thing is, my friends are stubborn, and at times can't see reason. So you'll need to stay back and use whatever means necessary to keep them from entering that room."
I'm sorry, master. Portabello bowed his head shamefully. I did not mean to question the wisdom of your decision.
"It's okay." Mike said with a smile. "You know I'm not so sensitive to get offended at you double-checking my choices when I look like I sleep with molten razor-blades." He ruffled the grassy fur on top of the Breloom's cap. "You're one of the most loyal, dependable people in my life, Portabello. Pokemon or not. Don't you forget that." The Breloom nodded in agreement, the end of his mouth curling into a smile.
Mike took out three other Poke Balls, releasing Titanium, Xanthos and Proton. "You four are to hold the line. No matter what comes through that door, you will keep them from entering this room, friend or foe." Mike nodded in the direction of the door that led to Maxie's chambers. "Milo will be the one calling the shots in my stead." He turned to Milo, who was looking over the Pokemon now in his command.
Funny thing that I'm the only one you can trust now. Milo said with a chuckle. Life is certainly full of surprises.
"Just...keep them from getting here." Mike said. "You go too far, and I'll find a way to make you regret it."
Oh I do so love this side that today has brought out in you. replied Milo, who turned to face the welded slab as Mike opened the door to Maxie's office. This will be such fun. the shade said, his knife-like fingers dancing in anticipation as he stood with Mike's Pokemon.
