i'm a flutist, too. i love it 4laugh !!! but it seems that all the flutes except a few are snoots talk2hand , also. if i come on a as a snoot, please tell me so i can go burn my clothes burning_eyes and come back with a paper bag over my head. ANYWAYS, it also seems that the snoots are REALLY BAD scream at keeping rythym and hitting high notes, but are too proud to do the band a favor and quit. rolleyes
having that said, i hope i'm not a snoot, i am the top flutist in my grade... ok now i really sound snooty. pardon my boasting. xd
nevermind. i'll shut up now, ok? sweatdrop

Yeah, I used to play open hole too. When I transferred schools it was the only one they had left, so I was stuck. At first, I had to remember the correct way to curver your fingers and that HURT!!!
But after awhile I felt proud when other flutes tried to play my flute and couldn't. Made me feel special... 3nodding

nevermind. i'll shut up now, ok? sweatdrop I know exactly what you mean!! I'm the only non-preppy flute in my school, and it sucks because I don't have anyone to talk to!!! I always have to play babysitter with them too; they don't know notes even if their lives depended on it!!!
And you is not a snoot. A statement of fact is not being "one of them" biggrin

I'm a flutist, I'm a flutist! 4laugh I'm the only fresman flutist now, though, thanks to schedules. And I'm in the most advanced class for I have no idea what reason. gonk The flute section is pretty cool this year, I think. The other flutists are really helpful and don't treat me like an idiot if I don't know something.

Coming from a flutist of 8 years and a piccolo player for 5 of those years, yes the fingering chart is the same; however, there are some alternate fingerings you can use depending on your piccolo's particular quirks to assist in tuning XD (which, in and of itself, is almost IMPOSSIBLE to do) If you need anything, be sure to PM me ^^

blue_eyed_blonde8 musicmaker01 blue_eyed_blonde8 i play an open-holed flute...its pretty awesome.i argue with many people whether flute is the best instrument or not...but i truly belive it is. mrgreen I wish I had started out on an open-holed flute but my band director did not require it. The sound is much clearer. Also, one can't hardly go from closed to open after one has been playing for a while. I tried it and i just can't do it. My flute is open-holed but it has the plugs. I try practicing with them out but as a general rule I play with the plugs in. Good luck!!! yea,it was really hard at first but ive been playing it about a year or more now and it got a lot easier...i even march with it in field band and street band.try practicing without the plugs even more at home so that you can get used to it even if it sounds like crap.you might not like it but it will get easier.i dont even notice that theres holes anymore.so thats what i did.well i hope you can get better too! I will try to practice more with them out but we are going through SO much music right now that I need for it to be perfect!!!! Know what i mean!! I hardly have the time to practice just for the fun of it.
