Miyuki blinked once more, she didn't know why, but she thought Luk and her ada's ada were being really polite in a weird sort of way.

"Hey!" she spoke up, "This means we can go and look through the city? Can we mommy? You said we'll be here for a week before going to visit grandmother and grandfather."

Earendil smiled at Lin. "You should go ahead," he urged her. "I'm going to be busy most of tomorrow with Ninako, you would be on your own anyways."

He grinned at Miyuki. "If you can stand to go to the city without me," he teased her.

Lin looked thoughtful, this was true he would be busy which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She had been around the city often enough to know where she was going.

"I can be a big girl," Miyuki pouted up at her ada.

Earendil chuckled and leaned over, kissing Miyuki on the forehead. "Yes, I know," he grinned. "Good. Then I don't feel bad about being swamped all day. You'll have to be sure to bring something back for me, all right?" He winked at her teasingly.

Even though he was teasing, she was already thinking about it.

"Okay!" she chirped happily.

Earendil chuckled and hugged Miyuki tightly.

The rest of the day was passed in telling stories and being welcomed back, and after dinner everyone washed up before heading to bed.

The next day, Lin was ready to head into the city with Miyuki and anyone else who wanted to come with her. She was waiting by the entrance, with her money pouch tied firmly to her belt and something wrapped in a cloth. She had already told Miyuki had was a surprise and not to tell Earendil about it at all.

She hoped to drop by Aranhil's, and Miyuki had insisted on the candy shop for her ada though, which Lin also had to agree to.

Elros and Alena were interested in seeing the city, and though they would have liked Sir Valdemar to come along as a guide he had work to do, and wasn't able to accompany them. So it was just the four of them heading into the city.

The two met Lin at the entrance to the palace, ready to go with their own purses of coin.

"I hope you don't mind," Alena said apologetically when they joined up with Lin and Miyuki. "I'm anxious to see in more detail what life is like here. It's so different, even the topography of the land has changed since I was last on the continent. It's frightening, but fascinating at the same time."

"Not at all," Lin replied with a smile.

She wasn't surprised someone had joined them on the trip into the city. Many of their guests had come from quite far away.

"I'm hoping to drop by the Jeweler's first if you don't mind."

"Not at all," Elros said warmly, his eyes sparkling brightly. He cast Alena a quick glance, then winked at Lin. "We had been hoping to stop by there anyways."

"You will have to lead the way," Alena added. "Neither of us has spent any time here at all, ever."

Lin giggled at that as she motioned for them to follow her, "This way then."

She led them down the street to where she knew the shop would be. Aranhil had been one of those people who knew the family for a long time.

Miyuki was walking ahead, waiting for them to catch up and walking ahead again. Though sometimes she would stop and stare into a shop window because it interested her so.

"You know," Alena commented, looking around as they strolled down the street, "I have actually never seen the Dark Elves in their own society before. The last time I saw them, other than seeing Earendil and the others in Amon Darthir, was before the segregation of the races."

Elros squeezed her hand gently. "A lot has changed, hasn't it?" he murmured.

That certainly sounded like a long time to Lin. Though it was a reminder of how things were. Though Lin couldn't imagine any place outside of the Eastland where both races missed easily.

"Anything that strikes you about seeing this?"
Lin asked.

"It's very dark?" Alena said hesitantly. "I mean ... I'm used to large numbers of people who all look similar, now; since the segregation it was first all golden haired elves, and then as we changed it became all fire-haired elves, so the fact that everyone looks so much alike isn't startling; but the fact that their hair is so dark compared to any of the other large groups of elves that I've seen, it's strange."

Though by this point even seeing a large group of Light Elves would probably be startling to her.

"That's true, I hadn't thought about that," Lin murmured.

She was so use to being one in a completely different society that she hadn't thought about it all that much.

"Mommy!" Miyuki waved from up ahead, "I think I found it!"

The jewelry the little girl could see through the window was probably a dead give away.
