prompt
The Lucario did not seem amused at the situation at all. In fact, it was quite outraged due to the destruction of its trainer's memorial and the steady destruction of his home from all the attacks from both sides.

Its eyes, full of rage, sent a piercing glare at anything that came close to it. Then, the pokemon attacked.

Aura spheres were sent in all directions, at both trainers and rockets. The Lucario was too angry to care. The last monument to his trainer was destroyed. Mass destruction was left in its wake. These trainers had no right to fight in his land. He, and only he had that right.

So RP prompt time!
(You can try for this pokemon even if you have won a swarm)

How do you calm the Lucario? Or perhaps, if not calm, catch or knock it out? How does the dramatic battle between Team Rocket and the trainers play out? It's all up to you!

Jamais saw the Lucario appear from the dust of the shrine her jaw dropped when she saw that bright blue blast. "s**t." She watched noticing people way too close to the pokemon. It wasn’t that she actually cared about most; Zin was probably the one she cared most about out of those trainers down there fighting them.

She dug into her bag hoping she had at least one last sleeping gas bottle. Screw everyone else this thing needed to be stopped; the trainers could have the town for all she cared. Finally finding a few Jamais aimed straight for the Lucario’s head, "SLEEPING BOMBS AWAY!" She called actually warning other trainers as she grabbed the pokeball. She motioned to RuChii to help her in throwing the last four down.

The helicopter dodged an attack from the Lucario almost sending Jamais falling out of it onto the Lucario. "HEYYY" she screamed back at the pilot, "Are you trying to get us killed?" She looked back at RuChii, "You okay?" She asked as she resettled on the edge watching the Lucario and the other trainers scrambling. They had an advantage up the in air, they could see just about anything, which was good.

When RuChii answered that she was good, Jamais looked around the helicopter, "Do me a favor, buckle up and hold on to my belt. So if that idiot," She threw another glare at the pilot, "Decides to try to throw us out again I don’t find myself falling on the Lucario, that’s not how I’d like to break my fall." She threw the ball down watching it whirl towards the Lucario.

Who in a blind rage blasted another shot again at the helicopter and even more at the other trainers, "Oh s**t..." Jamais watched the pokeball get wobbled form the course, the blades must be keeping the sleeping gas from working. "GO UP!!" She yelled, hitting the top of the helicopter as they narrowly dodged another attack. Everything was in slow motion for those few seconds that the ball of light narrowly missed her head, searing some hair off. "Mother fu—" it was like some scene out of matrix or the running man.

She turned back to RuChii, "We need to retreat. Screw the town; screw the mission. We’re going to get killed if we stay here." She added, she glanced back down noticing a pokeball had somehow managed to close in around the Lucario, and twitched. RuChii glanced over the 22 year old’s shoulder past the black hair with lime green highlights to watch the pokeball.

"We should regroup, try again later... Right?" She added, as both rockets watched the ball twitch. Which pokeball in the masses had it been? Jamais had seen others thrown by trainers on the ground. They all were trying to stop the Lucario. Everything seemed to stop for those few intense seconds; all the trainers had done their best to weaken the enraged pokemon. It was when the pokeball locked that everyone wondered who it was? Which side got it?

Everything moved in slow motion again, the shouts of the trainers, the movement of the copter blades, even the pokeball as it flew back to the owner. It was like time paused and everyone waited with baited breath… Was this the pawn that won the battle? Jamais was fully intent on backing out; there was no shame in the rockets leaving at this point. They were well outnumbered. They had to get Zin and get out of there, Lucario or no Lucario, as Jamais was thinking on how to get the younger girl out of the massacre, the ball was still flying back towards it’s owner with the captured Lucario… Jamais stared wide eyed before getting smacked in the forehead, barely able to save it from dropping back to the ground. Jamais motioned to RuChii to grab the intercom, "Guys, Rockets! We need to retreat, we’re too outnumbered! It’s stupid bloodshed, we’ll try again later. They’ll understand." She called out to her teammates, hoping that they’d leave to and she motioned for the pilot to get the hell out of dodge, they’d be back for the trainers another day.

Mean while she clutched the prized pokeball in her hand, "... So... What do I do with it?" She looked at RuChii almost stupefied by the fact she actually got him. With all those blasts she had been sure her pokeball had been knocked off course, unless it managed to get his rear... somehow... was this... what they called Fate? She paused noticing some seared hair, "... I need a hair cut now too..."

It was much later, after she'd taken him to a pokecenter, that she returned with him. Her first pokemon, though, even as a rocket she couldn't justify this one. She had made sure to wait till almost everyone in the town was asleep before she made her way quitely to the shrine, looking at the ruins. She opened the pokeball and looked at Lucario, before walking over to where the shrine use to be. "I'm not much of a mason, I'll work to fix it though." She told him with a pause.

She looked at the pokeball and his old one, "You know you have a choice, I don't feel right keeping you, not if it's not your will." She knelt down and worked on the shrine as the Lucario watched curiously.

"I'm not even on your side it would seem. After you blasted that hole in the wall that first time we saw each other... if that was you." She paused looking around, could there have been more?

Rocket, letting the pokemon have the choice, how weird. She sighed, "I'm going to need cement... I'd have to come back later though they'll be up by the time I have it." She looked at the Lucario wondering what his thoughts were on it.

She could hear him despite not being psychic. Which was odd, "Why wouldn't I?" Jamais answered then added, "Just because I'm a rocket doesn't mean all my intentions are bad... So of course you have a choice."

He blinked looking at the shrine. He asked.

"Their experiments, while unlawful could aid, in... well expansion of our knowledge. That's how Mewtwo was made." She answered, "Their machines are beyond interesting. Much more so than playing with tractors and the things I do on the side. Sometimes though I feel like I need a degree in rocket science." She trailed off... "Long story short, there's a lot I could learn and while I may not uphold a lot of the same beliefs other Rockets do. Sometimes because of the job I have to push my morals aside."

The Lucario shook his head, Jamais saw it, "Doesn't mean I always like it." She said leaning back looking at the shrine. The Lucario walked over and nudged her arm softly,

"Changing it." She answered with a sly grin. The Lucario looked slightly interested and curious. "Common goals I can live with, it's the methods that need changing."

They stayed the night there chatting, leaving Jamais to wonder what the Lucario would actually choose to do.

Tygress Dream

Beloved Shapeshifter

PostPosted: Tue Jun 08, 2010 8:28 pm

Tygress was knocked from the saddle when the lucario began its random attacks. "What hit us?" she groaned trying to regain her feet. With Peanut, Eden and Roddy she stumbled to the relative cover of a fallen tree.
After taking a moment to rest, the watcher studied the chaos. It was then that she saw the broken shrine and the stunningly gorgeous but viciously angry lucario.

"Oh no the shrine." She remembered vaguely the story that had been told by one of the villagers when they'd reached the clearing. Was this the mysterious remaining pokemon? No time to contemplate the circumstances; the lucario was clearly angry because of the destruction of the sacred clearing and shrine. To him everyone there was now an enemy. That was all that she needed to know. There had to be a way to calm him to convince him that some here at least were friends not foes.

Tyg pulled out three pokeballs and released the rest of her team. "We have a problem here," she said and quickly explained the situation to the lopunny, sandshrew and duskull.
While the trio that had fought the Rockets recovered with berries, the others talked amongst themselves.

To Tygress's surprise the three began to head towards the shrine. Sprain hovered over the lucario's head distracting the attacking pokemon while Eva approached the shrine. The lopunny respectfully lifted one of the stones and looked like she was trying to place it where it belonged, it was a lost cause considering the destruction, but it brought a tear to Tyg's eye. She regained her feet again and, joined by Peanut, Eden and Roddy, she too approached the shrine.

The lucario paused in its attacks and stared at the approaching group. What were they about? He noticed movement behind him and the lopunny at the rubble that had been his master's shrine and a strangely colored sandshrew between him and the lopunny. the lucario demanded.
Sage replied bowing respectfully.

While Sage talked, Tygress joined Eva trying to make some order of the wreckage. "It'll be a temporary fix but it's a start," she said loud enough for the angry pokemon to hear.

Confused the lucario roared with frustration and let out more attacks in the direction of the Rockets, who seemed to be taking advantage of the general confusion to cut their losses and run for it.

"It'll be alright. It can be rebuilt and now more will remember and honor this place," Tyg indicated the other trainers who had found peace and rest the night before.

Anger spent and now physically and mentally exhausted the lucario sunk to the ground tears streaming. Peanut dug into Tygress's bag, found a pokeball and placed it into her trainer's hand. Tyg nodded with understanding. "You need rest, please allow me to help you," she said offering the pokeball as a restful sanctuary to the grieving pokemon.

The aura pokemon eyed the pokeball suspiciously.
Peanut explained.
Sage added having firsthand knowledge of it being rescued from Team Rocket by Tyg and Peanut.
Tyg's other pokemon and even the rental Roddy added their own reasurances.
"You may go as you wish after you've rested. I will not seek to hold you."
Though still hesitant the lucario was unable to resist the call of promised rest....

Alexa slid off Vincent's back and was still having him and Apolla attack the landing Rockets. There were no mercy for them. She was knocked over several times by Vincent as he tried to protect her from attacks from other trainers. She wasn't so lucky on the score with missiles. One hit the ground not too far from her sending her to the ground. She never had time to cover her head as rock rained down on her. She was slow getting up and was quite dazed. Vincent stood over her protectively while Apolla attacked any attacks that came near them.

It wasn't long after that when another missiles hit. Only this time it hit the shrine. Alexa stared dumbfounded as the shrine exploded and out fell a ancient pokeball. Her eyes grew wide as a Lucario appeared. Vincent whines nervously sensing the fury the pokemon had. Alexa also saw the fury and began trying to stand. "Watch out!" She yelled out as Aura Spheres began shooting out all over the place. She watched, in horror, as one of them hit the ground near Apolla who was trying to dodge them. She didn't get so lucky the next time. It hit Apolla cleanly on the side sending the little Vulpix to the ground. "APOLLA!" Alexa scrambled out from under Vincent and flung her body over Apolla to prevent her from being hit by any other attacks. "Oh no.... please be okay." She cried frantically trying to find a potion in her sling back. She grabbed one bottle at random, a paralyz heal, and threw it down to the ground. Not what she needed! "Vul... vulpix." Apolla faintly called trying to reassure her trainer. Alexa finally found a potion and gave it to Apolla. Once she was sure that it had help she withdrew her Vulpix back into her pokeball.

Alexa looked up at the angry Lucario, quite angry herself. She quickly stood up and began running at it, ready to give it a piece of her mind about attacking randomly like that. Vincent ran after her, ready to take any attack for her. "Stop it! Stop it! LUCARIO STOP IT!" Alexa yelled. The Lucario turned to look at her furious that someone would tell him to stop. He began preparing another Aura Sphere for her. Just as he was going to shoot it at her the Arcanine jumped in front of her growling. Lucario narrowed his eyes and shot it at the pokemon instead. Vincent didn't wait and attacked with a Flamethrower. The two attacks collided and exploded between them. Alexa was trying to say something to Lucario but it was blocked out when Vincent used Roar. It didn't send the Lucario running though. Instead it made Lucario focus on them instead of everyone else.

Alexa seeing that talking to the Lucario and calming it down, partically thanks to Vincent, decided to just attack and weaken it. Maybe even capturing would work. She whistled loudly hoping to call Stribog back from the attack on the helicopters. It didn't take too long for him to fall gracefully from the sky, almost too tired to fly. He did have enough engery to fly to Alexa and land on her head. Turning her attention to the Lucario she thought of which move to use. "Okay Vincent. Let's knock some sense into this one. Use Extremespeed!" Vincent was off racing to his opponent, the rest of the battle forgotten. However he nor Alexa thought that perhaps this Lucario knew Extremespeed as well. The two pokemon collided and jumped back from each other. They both had taken damaged but it seemed Lucario's anger made it stronger. They both attacked again using the same attack. Vincent fell down to the ground but got back up with a growl. He wasn't going to let this pokemon harm his trainer or teammates anymore! With a growl he opened his mouth and a burst of flame in a symbol shape shot out towards Lucario. The Fire Blast hit Lucario dead on sending him to the ground. He had several burn marks but still wasn't giving up. Lucario stood up and raced forward and attacked with Force Palm. Vincent seeing Lucario race towards him used Extremespeed to dodge and then attack from behind. Lucario fell down once more and struggled to get up. "Okay Vincent use Flamethrower one last time!" Vincent complied hitting Lucario with the flame attack.

Alexa quickly grabbed a pokeball from her bag and instead of throwing it, walked up to Lucario. "I'm sorry we had to fight you and I'm sorry the shrine of your previous trainer got destroyed. But Team Rocket has to be stopped. Your trainer would have wanted the town to be free from Team Rocket and I'm sure if he was still alive he would have helped us fight them. Once this is all over I'll make sure the shrine gets fixed..... I'm truely sorry it had to come to this." And she was for Lucario was struggling to get back up. She could still see the anger in his eyes. With a sad look she toss the pokeball at him and watched as it captured him. She caught the ball as it flew back to her. With a shake of her head she placed the pokeball with her other ones and turned back to the battle against Team Rocket.

The battle against Team Rocket and the helicopters hadn't been going so good while she was dealing with Lucario. "Vincent, Stribog I hope you two are ready to battle some more." She said getting out two more potions. She gave them to her pokemon before yelling out attacks, "Stribog Ice Beam the helicopters! Vincent Flamethrower or Roar the Rockets on the ground!" Her two pokemon joined the foray again. At one point, with attacks from Team Rockets pokemon and their missiles, it seemed like all hope would be lost of winning. But the trainers found a inner strength and began turning the tide. Another helicopter went down and the Rockets landing on the ground were soon overcome by the sheer number of trainers against them.

Both sides were tiring out as an hour passed but the battle was still raging. There were still several of the helicopters in the sky and many Rockets on the ground still fighting. The battle seemed endless. Several trainers began combining attacks, having seen their pokemon knew the same attack, making them stronger than a single one. Soon all of the trainers that could do this were banding together attacking all at once. Another helicopter went down and when it crashed into the woods it was a signal for Team Rocket to run. The remaining helicopters flew off and the members who were on the ground and hadn't been captured by the trainers ran off into the woods. Seeing the last of them running through the trees the trainers all let out a great whoop! They had won!

The chaos was insane. Missiles were being launched and each time it seemed like Oyumi was barely escaping disaster. She threw commands left and right between her Pokemon. Kamu used another Crunch on a nearby Rocket's Pokemon, Kubiwa had curled around another with a rather vicious Wrap. Fuutarou had aimed yet another Shadow Ball at one of the helicopters and narrowly missed... It was all becoming maddening.

And then it happened. A missile streamed into the clearing and collided with the small shrine. Everything seemed to fall silent as the Lucario appeared, but Oyumi knew that wasn't right. No, the chaos was still exploding around her, but for a brief second her breath caught. A Lucario. How long had she dreamed of catching one of her own? And here it was, right in front of her eyes.

Without thinking she took a step forward, ignoring the battle raging around her. Had this Lucario been the one to send her that premonition? Surely that had to be it...

And then it attacked.

Suddenly, reality came crashing down around Oyumi. An Aura Sphere shot just past her, colliding rather brutally with Kamu. The Girafarig let out a bellow of pain before collapsing to the ground - he was no match for an enraged Lucario of that caliber. She wanted to reach out to Kamu, see if he was alright, but she was frozen in the wake of the raw emotions emanating from the enraged Pokemon.

Oyumi did not like to brag about her latent psychic abilities, did not openly advertise that they made her a tad bit more sensitive to the emotions of others. It was something she kept to herself and her team. Mostly because, more often than not, this ability was useless. She only got the vaguest wisps of emotions from most Pokemon and people, and these were only mildly more potent when coming from other psychics...

But this? This was raw. It was anguish and it was rage. It was, quite possibly, the purest and most overwhelming emotion she'd ever experienced. And it was what that poor Lucario was going through.

This time, Oyumi didn't think. The battle still raging around her was forgotten. She ran forward, dodging attacks from both sides as the Pokemon continued his rampage. Others were beginning to take notice, and it seemed like some of the Rocket Grunts on the ground were beginning to target it. Her eyes narrowed and she sent a mental nudge towards Fuutarou.

'Keep him safe. I want to try something.'

The Mewtwo merely nodded, and was quick to redirect his attention to the Grunts. He did not attack, instead merely redirecting and intercepting their attacks. His trainer had said to keep the Lucario safe and that was just what he'd do, Oyumi knew that much. It was when she'd finally gotten within a yard of the Lucario that the Pokemon turned and leveled its gaze on her. She froze once again as the emotions overwhelmed her, and the Lucario began to charge another Aura Sphere.

"Wait!" Oyumi cried, but the Lucario paid her no heed. The attack was on the brink of being released when she finally regained her bearings and sent a mental nudge in the Pokemon's direction, sending with it every soothing emotion she could muster.

The Pokemon faltered and in its brief lapse of concentration the attack harmlessly dissipated. It shook its head and began charging again before Oyumi sent another nudge. Once again, the Pokemon faltered.

"We're sorry, Lucario. We never meant to destroy the shrine," she said gently, inching closer to the Pokemon. It bristled and growled, sending her a scathing glare. For the moment, she ignored it, pausing and continuing. "You tried to warn us about everything that was going on here, right? You tried to warn me about the helicopters... And I tried to do something... But I was too late."

'You were supposed to keep them from coming! This place was supposed to be safe!'

"I know! I'm sorry. I thought I had more time... It's all my fault," Oyumi said without missing a beat, inching forward and quickly drawing her arms around the Lucario.

For a moment, it struggled, still enraged at the destruction of its trainer's shrine. But as Oyumi did her best to project more of the soothing feelings and the battle died down around them, it slowly stilled. At length, the ninja pulled back and gently ran a hand down the Pokemon's back, giving him a sad look.

"If I have to, I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. It's my fault your trainer's shrine was destroyed... So, if you'll have me..."

She let the statement hang, ignoring the hope fluttering in her chest as the Lucario turned to look at the hastily retreating Rockets. The rest of the trainers had just narrowly won the battle, and many of them were rushing to check on their friends. A few had even moved to help some of the villagers attempt to reconstruct the shrine - and though it was in shambles, somehow the sight seemed to sooth the Pokemon. Finally, he turned back to the strange girl, red eyes piercing into her own and looking into every intention she had...

'Alright... But first, we get them out of my home.'

Oyumi grinned. She didn't have to ask to know he was referring to Team Rocket, and she silently agreed before getting to her feet and wandering off to tend to her own Pokemon and find Rhia - her new companion at her side.

Despite the fall of several choppers, there were still more that managed to keep to the skies and fire missiles and other projectiles into the furious crowd below.

Darkfeather himself was dodging ice and electricity to maintain his own position in the air. The Pidgeot letting loose a volley of Hyper Beam after taking time to recharge. However, someone's thunder attack managed to clip him. Despite some singed feathers, he managed to keep up with helicopter 1 which contained his trainer.

Luck would change when the Lucario appeared and unleashed Aura Spheres in every direction, including up.

"GEEEEOOOT!" The dark colored Pidgeot let out an ear piercing shriek as one of the spheres managed to make contact. Despite the fact it wasn't super effective, that did him in. Nikki's brown eyes went wide in horror as her bird struggled to stay conscious but then began to plummet.

"Darkfeather return!" A beam of red light recalling the Pidgeot to the confines of his ball, where he would be safe. Yet, the Rocket grit her teeth and shot a glare down at the Pokemon who had sent the attack. Now it was personal.

The helicopter was then rocked violently by a blast of flamethrower and thunder, causing Nikki to have to brace herself on a bulkhead to keep from falling to her death. "Don't you think this would be an appropriate time for that "secret" wepaon?!" She shouted over the noised, directed at her companion.

Penelope, also hanging on for dear life, glanced in Nikki's direction before her lips pulled back in a grin. "Now you're talking!" The two had discussed this weapon that she had used previously to capture trainers, since it was one of their last lines of defense here. Scrambling into the cockpit of the helicopter, Pen held a headset up to the side of her head as she punched buttons to send a transmission.

"This is Copter One calling Flying Lizard! Come in Flying Lizard!"

There was a crackle of static just before another familiar voice sounded in Pen's ear. "This is Flying Lizard, over!"

Pen smirked as she heard Alex's voice. "Get your butt over here now! We're taking a beating!"

"Roger that."

---

A few moments after the call was sent out, a large shadow was suddenly cast over the trainers still battling on the ground. Those that looked up would see the silhouette of what appeared to be... a Giant Aerodactyl? Some of them might even recognize it.

It came from the opposite direction of the helicopters, thus coming to attack from behind. Its metallic armor gleamed in the late afternoon sun, as its looming figure drew closer. As the mecha approached, strange eerie music was played over its loudspeakers. This only attested to the fact that its pilot was a complete and total nerd.

Nikki grinned as she saw the beast of a machine approach and turned to Penelope. "Tell him to attack that damned Pokemon down there! I'm willing to bet it was the one we were looking for!"

Penelope nodded and relayed the message quickly.

In response, the Aerodactyl's maw slowly creaked open, revealing a set of sharp needle-like teeth... literally. Then at once, the "teeth" suddenly shot out from the mecha's mouth and zipped through the air, right towards the Lucario.

The "teeth", which happened to be tranquilizer darts, struck the Lucario in rapid succession. The Pokemon's eyes widened in alarm as its attacks suddenly ceased. It staggered, quickly succumbing to the effects of the more than generous supply of sedatives. A short, strangled cry arose from it, just before the creature crumbled to the ground in an unconscious heap.

Nikki was quick to react and with a loud bang, a net was shot from helicopter 1. In a matter of seconds the net unfurled and completely covered the Lucario. The net's weights were also attached to cords which were then then reeled in, thus scooping up the knocked out Pokemon and drawing him upward to the chopper.

If that wasn't all, jets from the Aerodactyl mecha spewed powerful streams of tear gas into the wake of the trainers to deter anyone wishing to rescue the hapless Lucario. However, once the Pokemon was secured inside the helicopter, the entire fleet unleashed its entire fury.

All the remaining copters, and the mecha, all began firing missiles at the trainers and their Pokemon. Large explosions rocked the earth, causing debris, people, and Pokemon to go flying in all directions. Even the spaded end of the mecha's tail was used as a grappling hook to attack anyone that dared to mess with it.

The sudden onslaught was simply too much for the trainers. While they had the advantage in numbers, the Rockets outgunned them with their technology and weaponry. This sudden turn of events forced the trainers to beat a retreat.

The bad guys... were winning?!

"These humans --"
"These humans . . . they have no respect! No decency! They all deserve to suffer, all deserve to die!"

Orbs of blue shot out in random directions into the forest and towards the heavens, striking down every and any victim that just so happened stray into their path. The one who gave them life, the one who was the cause to all this destruction, never once ceased to think of his actions. He continued his onslaught of anger. They all deserved to pay for what they've done. All deserved to suffer!

Meeka's eyes widened. Everything happened in such a blur; as if time fast forwarded straight to the action sequence skipping the major details of the storyline. As of now, the only focus of this movie was to calm the beast. She, as the protagonist, would try her best to quell the angered Lucario. The task at hand would be hard. However, her role as a peace maker has happened once before. Hovering her hand over her belt, the breeder removed a distinct purple Pokeball from her hip. She had gone through something much similar like this with Rin. If she could do it once, she could do it again.

"L-Lucario!" she called from the thickness of the forest. "Lucario, please, stop this!"

The large, Aura Pokemon hesitated momentarily as the orange haired female took a step out of the thicket. She removed her hat in respect but this just seemed to flare up the fire in the Lucario more.

"She is one of them." he thought. "She is a monster, so she deserves to die!"

The Lucario moved his hands over towards the breeder and shot a single blue orb out at her. Meeka froze, feet stiff to the floor. Oh Arceus, have mercy! However, the mighty Pokemon who was said to dwell in the world's heavens showed her no redemption. The protagonist became a victim to the beast, his anger devouring her being and sending her flying. Young Meeka flew from her standing area to a tree behind her, cracking her back with a loud thud. She slid to its rooted base, feeling darkness consume her consciousness.

"Arceus . . . " she muttered out of hurt. "Arceus . . . !"

Her body could no longer bare the pain and sent her mind spiraling deep into the crashing seas of desperateness and sleep. "Rin . . . " she muttered. "Rin . . . you're my only chance . . . h-help him . . . "

The Masterball rolled out of the breeder's hand as her head slumped to one side. It wiggled for a brief moment until the Mewtwo morphed and took form from the flash of red light.

"Meeka . . . " she telepathically said aloud from seeing her hurt trainer. "Oh gods, Meeka! Meeka, are you al-"

Before the Mewtwo could continue, another dangerous blue orb came soaring towards them. Rin immediately clutched her trainer to her bosom and fled. She had to get Meeka to safety. At least until she can figure out . . . what was going on.

Once the Mewtwo felt as if she was well out of range, she stopped to settle her trainer down. Tears began to well up next.

"I've failed." she muttered to herself. "I've failed again . . . to protect the human who has called me family. I've failed. Oh gods, I have failed again!"

The Mewtwo squeezed her chin to her trainer's slumped head as she sobbed. Meeka stirred slightly from the sudden wetness, panic twisting in her brain with the sudden thought of blood. As she raised her hand to touch the wetness, she felt the cool skin of her beloved Mewtwo partner instead. She'd nothing to fear now. Rin was here. Rin would make everything alright.

"R-Rin." stuttered Meeka but the Mewtwo protested her from saying anything more.

"Don't speak, Meeka!" she cried. "Not with the condition you are in!"

Meeka just smiled. Rin always had a caring heart . . . always.

"Rin, listen to me . . . " she began. "That Lucario . . . he, he is in a lot of pain. The s-shrine that existed in memory of t-the trainer who l-loved and cared for him was destroyed. He p-pains from t-this, s-seeing it as disrespect. Rin, don't hurt him. Find a way to c-calm him d-down, pl-"

Meeka's eye lids grew heavy and her head slumped back to its arched position before she could conclude. Rin attempted to shout her name but refrained from doing so. Meeka had been through too much. It wouldn't be right to wake her now. Pushing the Jickel sister's back to the tree, Rin stood tall. She would stop the Lucario, by Meeka's request she would.

Darting to the central area of danger, Rin saw the Lucario blasting more Aura Spheres at the forest. Any trainers that were within the area seemed to have receded to the dense forest while the Rockets headed for the Trotting Turtwig Inn. Fighting could still be heard in the distance though. The trainers were fighting hard for their own peace. All this conflict had to stop at once.

"Lucario!" cried Rin as she saw the maddened canine glare at her. "P-Please, listen to me! Listen - Oof!"

The Lucario sent a sphere flying in her direction and it burned onto her abdomen. She cried out in pain. The Mewtwo wished to retaliate but respected Meeka's wish. She would not hurt the Lucario, only persuade it.

"Lucario, please listen! Ah!"

Another Aura Sphere burned her side. Oh Arceus, it hurt so much. "Why?" questioned Rin. "W-Why do you fight?"

The Lucario paused and its glare grew harder. "He left me here." it replied. "He, he left me here all alone to protect this shrine. Now, there is nothing to protect. Nothing to serve. Those monsters have rejoiced in the destruction of my home. I will not stand for it, not at all . . . I will make them suffer for what they have done. They do not deserve to live"

Rin's eyes felt strained. "No . . . " she cried. "No, Lucario, please! Some of those victims are innocent. They have kindness in their heart! Please! Listen to me-!"

More burning, more moans of pain. What can Rin do? What could she possibly do?

"Those monsters are not kind." replied the Lucario. "To destroy this land, they are not kind."

Rin gasped for air. If the Lucario could not heed her words, maybe she could show it?

"Lucario . . . " she struggled to mutter while getting up. "Lucario . . . you do not believe in the kindness because you do not see it yourself. Come, let me show you the kindness of these humans."

The Lucario paused but agreed. Rin took him to the battlefield of trainers against Rockets. Amidst the chaos, Pokemon attacked and trainers cried out commands. The Rockets destroyed the forest with missiles and bullets, not even caring. Lucario's heart dropped. What the Mewtwo spoke was true. There was kindness. Not just kindness but determination, courage . . . hope.

"Now you see . . . " muttered Rin. "Of the two kinds of human that exist within this world. Those who care . . . those who do not. Please, Lucario. Stop the fighting . . . only you can do it . . . "

Running to the trainer's side, the Lucario stood tall. "You monsters!" it cried towards the Rockets. "Your actions shall not be forgiven. Not now, not ever! Huaaaah!"

A large orb spurred in the Lucario's hands, blue illuminating the battle-torn faces of the trainers and the black tinted windows of the helicopters. It grew large until the Lucario moved its paws to the front of its body.

"You will . . . pay!"

The blue orb consumed everything in its path. Helicopter blades sputtered to a stop, Grunts fell to their knees, metal twisted and coiled from the heat. The light was intense, too intense. Than everything died down to darkness.

"Was it . . . all a dream?"

Meeka opened her eyes slightly, sunlight filtered through the torn canopy above. Was it really all a dream?

"Meeka . . . " spoke a familiar voice and the breeder shot her eyes open. "Meeka . . . we did it."

Looking up, Meeka saw the form of her beloved Rin and . . . the Lucario. It was not a dream.

"Oh Arceus . . . " she trailed off and struggled to her feet. "Oh Arceus! Rin, Lucario, you did it . . . !"

With that, the conflict ended. The trainers were victorious in the battle as the Rockets had fled with whatever piece of their battalion they still had intact. Those grunts who remained were tied together and awaited their time and trial when the police came.

From the hearts of those determined, courage was found. In the eyes of those who fought, there was kindness. Only the strong might survive yes, but only those with strong hearts can bring peace.

Jay's attention was torn from the ponyta he was stroking at the sound of approaching choppers. The atmosphere became tense and Jay forget the lingering pain. He was still a good distance from where the majority of the trainers had gone. He hadn't and still wasn't in great conditions, effects of the gas still irritated his body, so traversing the forest would have been difficult. He got to his feet, trying not to sway as his vision faded in and out for a moment. Leaning against the tree he called out his rental tarous. The normally temperamental pokemon seemed to sense Jay's feeling of urgency. He snorted and pawed the ground, the sounds of attacks reached him even from this distance. A big fight had started and Jay was worried about the well being of pokemon, people and the forest alike.
His face became determined as he claimed atop tarous and headed for the shrine clearing. He had gotten the feeling that the place was sacred and he didn't like the idea of it being disturbed for a petty fight.
Tarous came to a halt in the trees at the edge of the forest, Jay's adrenaline was pumping long before he had arrived to see the upsetting scene before him. Helicopters firing missiles at the trainers and pokemon on the ground, trainers returning fire. Some helicopters had been brought down and Rockets where parachuting to the ground, releasing their pokemon to join the fight. Jay's fingers gripped Tarous's fur tightly, teeth clenched. This was desecration! And worst of all Jay didn't have the power to stop it.
Then it got even worse. Jay watched, as if in slow motion, the missile stray, crushing the stone monument. He had not heard the story of how it was to honor a great trainer, but the instant it was no more he was filled with a desperate, vengeful grief. The emergence of the Lucario only increased those feelings a hundred fold. Tears ran down his cheeks and he made not attempt to wipe them away, he could feel the pain that the Lucario was feeling with his own added feelings. It was the most potent feeling he had ever received from a single pokemon. Sliding from Tarous's back Jay allowed his rage to explode, shortly after Lucario began to attack everything around. "Look at what you have done!" His voice was a shout, but amidst the continued fighting, most of the exclamation was lost. He didn't stop there, continuing towards the outraged Lucario he shouted more at the people around, both Rocket and not. His words were pointed and harsh, possibly things that Lucario may have shouted had it been able/willing to do so.
Jay continued to walk through the still raging battle, headless of the danger. He could feel Lucario's feelings so potently that he was no longer sure where his feelings started and Lucario's began.
Jay was cut off in the middle of another shout as he was blown forward by the sheer force of a missile landing behind him. He went flying and ended up within ten feet of the shrine remains and Lucario. Tears of anguish still pouring from his eyes as he skidded to a halt on the ground.
He pushed himself onto his knees and looked up at the enraged Lucario. He swallow, so lost in the same outrage, that he couldn't even feel the scrapes on both his arms and face. He couldn't find any appropriate words to say to the pokemon, there where none, he could not go back in time and stop the battle from desecrating the shrine and homeland of the Lucario.
But in spite of that he wanted to help Lucario, with all his heart. Jay slid his bag from his back and unzipped it, the tears stinging the bleeding gashes on the left side of his face. As his arm slid into his bag, Jay's soulful eyes never left Lucario.
He pulled a cloth wrapped item from his bag and, looking away from the pokemon, carefully unwrapped it. A small, black, stone monument lay on the pale cloth of his open hand. On the stone the words:
"In loving memory of one hell of a Pokemon trainer.
            ~Darius Alar"
This was Jay's memorial stone for his father, now passed. It was the only thing he had left of his father and always kept it as a reminder of all the amazing memories he had shared with the great man. A tear splashed onto the smooth, black surface before he held the stone out to Lucario, lowering his head in a sort of respect. He knew that this could never replace the shrine that had been destroyed, but it was his way of communicating that he understood what he was feeling, even if only slightly.

Lisa turned towards the crash wide eyed. It seemed like everything was slowed down, as if time had decided to burn the events around her into her mind. Unseen by the confused trainer, a missile angrily soared at her and hit the ground. The explosion sent her and Sleipnir flying. The Ponyta got up and ran into the forest in fright, leaving Lisa on the ground, meters away from her nearest pokemon. Temporal Gate whirled around, his eyes wide as he spotted his trainer bleeding on the ground with a vicious blue dog that was attacking wildly. the Absol cried as he raced towards his trainer, growling.

All around her, Lisa saw the wrath of the Rockets, Trainers, and wild Lucario take their toll on the forest around them. The trees were set ablaze by missiles; the lake was raging against the artificial winds from blades and attacks. She saw her friends. Meeka, Lumina, Rhia, Opal, Lizzie, Lisa ran over the names as she saw them. They were fighting. They still stood their ground. Lisa groaned as she pushed herself up, blood running from the gashes on her arms, legs and head. He glasses lay on the ground, shattered into many pieces of glass at the foot of the Lucario, who turned its enraged gaze towards the human who had just arisen. Get OUT, it shouted telepathically at Lisa before shooting an Aura Sphere at her. Lisa shut her eyes, bracing herself.

The hit never came.

A massive red and white wall sailed in front of the blast. Temporal Gate reeled back from the hit, ending up at Lisa's feet. The two pokemon stared at each other, anger in their eyes. TG's face contorted itself into a mass of curled flesh and fur, with a row of sharp fangs threatening the Lucario. By now, others had also noticed the wild pokemon, and many of the Rockets had that glint in their eye that came to them whenever they had a pokemon to steal. Lisa grimaced as the Lucario fired more shots at the approaching trainers, their pokemon, and Temporal Gate. Each cry from the dark type's pain chilled her further. Something had to be done, but the trainer was paralyzed with fear.

Fear, the fear Merlin felt was energizing. He cackled as he sent his blizzard about, striking friend and foe, although he mostly aimed at the black suited humans who were pouring out from the sky. The ice storm froze wings and blades as the air chilled. Pokemon and planes came crashing down left and right.

A plane fell into the lake, sending a huge wave that reaches Lisa, splashing her into sense. Temporal Gate was wobbling now, and Midnight was attempting to keep the Rocket forces at bay. She didn't know why she did what she did as she approached the Lucario from behind. Perhaps the loss of blood or the desperate straights of the situation cause her to fore go all sanity. Whatever the case, Lisa launched herself at the raging pokemon, flinging her arms around its neck. "STOP!" Lisa cried out, tears in her eyes, partly from pain, partly from the misting of tear gas that was slowly covering the area. She used every ounce of strength just to hang on to the Lucario. She felt its dark plus sweep over her, and the wave of anger weakened her, but there was more than just anger. She felt sadness, the empty, and deep void of loss. Instead of letting go, Lisa ignored her instinct and held on tighter.

Time once again seemed to slow down as Lisa buried her face into the Lucario’s blue fur. She heard the joyous cries of Rockets as they pushed the trainers back further, the crackling and snapping of the trees as they fell to flame and damage from physical strikes. The Lucario stopped struggling under the weight of the human atop its back. It was exhausted, as evidenced by its reduced rate of attack. Soon, it would collapse, but not without a fight.

Shakily, Temporal Gate stood up, his normally white fur stained in places with blood. The Absol stumbled over to Lisa and the Lucario and began to pull on Lisa’s shirt with his jaws. The Lucario reared up at the Absol’s approach, spit mixed with blood spraying from its mouth as the light of the burning trees danced in its eyes. A struggle between the two Pokémon ensued, Temporal Gate yanking Lisa towards the safety of the forest while the Lucario pushed onward, Lisa still refusing to let go of it.

Midnight Eclipse roared as she stepped back away from the Rocket assault. Smoke and gas were quickly filling the area to the point where it was hard to battle. Trees began to tumble into the clearing, nearly crushing several trainers and Pokémon. It was time to evacuate, as much as she hated to admit it. The huge black dog turned around and faced the struggle between the Lucario, Lisa, and Temporal Gate. With one smooth motion the Cerberex rushed at the group, picked up Lisa by her waist, and flung the entire squirming mob onto her rigged back. The Lucario yelped in anger as it was yanked around the neck by Lisa as they were thrown onto Midnight’s back. Coughing, Lisa managed to hold her grip on the Pokémon despite its struggle and the smoke around her.

Merlin watched from above as the Rockets over took the clearing and the trainers fled further into the forest. He spotted Lisa atop Midnight as the Cerberex, too, fled into the forest. To say the Rockets were completely victorious, however, would not be correct, Merlin silently noted as he floated into the trees. He had seen them wandering, confused by the smoke cause by the burning forest. Rain from a Rain Dance already began to pour down, but the heat of the flames was turning most of the water into steam. Eventually, the Rockets, too, backed off. Their transports were destroyed, and the fire was creeping ever closer to Motterossa, threatening to burn it down. From a distance, many of the trainers commanded Pokémon to put out the fires. For a moment, members of both sides had a common goal.

By the time Midnight found the other trainers, Lisa and the Lucario had fallen out of consciousness. The back of Midnight’s mane was ragged from the constant attempts by the Lucario to attack her. Temporal Gate slid off of the Cerberex as Midnight lay down by the cluster of trainers. The Absol collapsed onto the ground as his fatigue caught up with him. Midnight shifted her body so the Lucario and Lisa both slid off slowly and safely. Lisa, though asleep, still kept her hold on the blue Pokémon. The sky darkened as the sun set, ending the day and beginning a relationship.

As the fires died, the clearing, reduced to a field of ash, lay silent. A single pair of broken glasses caught the moonlight as the two teams regrouped, a glimmer of hope in the black dust of despair.

POKEBALL, GO!

As Tauros charged to attack a Pokemon, Flint's attention turned to the battle around him " this is horrible... " he mumbled under his breath. The clearing was being destroyed and the rockets, as well as the trainers themselves, were responsible for the destruction. A wave of despair and anger washed over him similar to what he had felt when burying the Grumpig. This wasn't the place for a battle, this was a place for peace, and peace alone.

Just then a missile zoomed several feet over the clearing interrupting his mournful thoughts, it had missed it's target and was headed straight for the shrine. His breath caught in his throat and he could only stare in complete horror as the missile made contact with the shrine and exploded reducing the shrine to rubble. Battle forgotten, he began to run towards it, Tauros right beside him, before they were able to get too near they were stopped by a bright flash of light originating from a ancient-looking poke-ball.

He stared open mouthed in shock as a Pokemon he had always thought to be a myth emerged from the ancient poke-ball " Lucario" Flint mouthed, staring in wonder at the Pokemon. His mind immediately flashed back to the many nights he had spent as a child being told bedtime stories by his mother, one story stood out above the others in that moment. He remembered all the nights his mother had told him the story about the ancient trainer and his Pokemon Lucario.

He stared in amazement as the Pokemon observed the destruction, and grew angry, his face twisting into a mask of fury and hatred. It was then that it hit him, the shrine that was destroyed by the missile had been in honor of the ancient trainer, and Lucario was not happy. Lucario stood among the rubble of the destroyed shrine and began shooting off aura spheres with no specific target in mind, the attacks hit rockets and trainers alike.

Flint eyes grew wide as Lucario shot an aura sphere directly at him, he managed to jump out of the way but only by a hair. As it shot past the edge of it hit his arm as he dodged, leaving a rather large gash across the skin of his forearm. This had to stop, Lucario wasn't helping anything he was only making it worse, but he was so caught up in his rage that he failed to see it.

Narrowing his eyes he recalls Tauros, no reason for him to get caught up in this, and starts forward again, Lucario had to be stopped, he had no idea how he would do it, but he had to try! He set off at a dead run, skidding to a stop just a few feet away from Lucario " Stop this!" he yells "Can't you see your only causing more destruction?!" Lucario's head snapped to look at him, it's eyes glazed with anger <human! you destroy my home and my trainers shrine and you dare tell me that I am the one causing destruction?!> Lucario's voice echos in Flint heads and he stares in shock 'it has telepathy!' he thought amazed, but was snapped out of it as Lucario charged another aura sphere and aimed it right at him, the attack narrowly missed him.

He raised his arms to show he meant no harm " Lucario, please! you have to stop, I know your angry, and for good reason too, but attacking us isn't the way to go, we can help you defeat the rockets and avenge the destruction of your trainers shrine" he pleaded with the Pokemon <LIES> the Pokemon roared <you speak nothing but lies human, all of you are responsible, the ones in the sky and the ones on the ground, none shall be spared my wrath!> he roars and began charging another blast, this one more powerful than the other, once released it flew up and collided with a helicopter.

The helicopter burst into flames, the attack had hit the gas tank, and plummeted to earth. The rockets that were in the helicopter jumped out just in time and with their parachutes reached the relative safety of the ground. Lucario charged another blast, not as powerful as last time but still enough to pack a punch, Flint follows to Pokemon gaze to see what he was targeting this time and was horrified to see Alexa and her Pokemon standing directly in the line of fire completely unaware of what was coming.

Without thinking, in the split second that it took Lucario to launch the attack Flint jumped in the way of the blast. He doubled over in pain as the attack hit, his shirt was ruined and his chest was badly scratched and burned where the attack had hit. Lucario stared incredulously at the boy in front of him < why did you do that human? that attack was not for you!> he asked, utterly confused at why this boy would choose to jump in the way of his attack. Flint looked up, glaring at the Pokemon from where he knelt on the ground " i couldn't allow you to hurt my friend" he replied simply, looking behind him to see, with relief that Alexa and her Pokemon were alright and moving away towards some rockets that were now on the ground with their Pokemon out

< your....friend?> Lucario asked as the memories came flooding back, yes... he could remember now, all the good things and all the bad things... they had faced it all together, as friends, as equals. he remembered the day his trainer passed away and a wave of grief washed over him, all but erasing his previous rage. Lucarios legs gave out and he flopped on the ground, shaking uncontrollably.

Flint watched the Pokemon emotions visibly shift from rage to grief in a matter of seconds, he cautiously inched forward and reached his arm toward the Pokemon, stopping a few inches away to see if Lucario would stop him, when he did not, Flint extend his arm the rest of the way and laid a gentle hand on the Pokemon's head. "your sad, i understand that, you cared deeply for you trainer didn't you?" he asks, receiving no response from the Pokemon he continues " you've been alone here a long time, haven't you" this time he received a small nod from the otherwise unresponsive Lucario

"I'm sure your trainer cared greatly for you, he wouldn't want you to have spent all this time alone, it probably makes him sad to see you alone in this world" he pauses for a moment, gauging Lucario's reaction, which wasn't much, a sob and a flick of the ear "why.. why don't you come with me? we can be friends if you like. After the rockets are gone and things are calm again, I'll help you make another shrine for your trainer, even if you decline my offer ill still help" he said, and the Lucario finally lifted his head to look at Flints face and saw nothing but sincerity there.

Flint stood up with a little trouble and walked over to where the ancient poke-ball had landed and picked it up, pulling another poke-ball out of his pocket he holds them both, one in each hand " so what will it be Lucario? will you remain in the past and stay here" he says holding up the ancient poke-ball " or will you take a step forward and come with me?" he asks holding his poke-ball up

Lucario stared at the two poke-balls for several minutes, thinking, remembering. After what seemed like hours he finally decided, he looked to Flint and stood up <i'll go with you> the Pokemon's voice sounded inside his head and Flint smiled, he had a new friend. Together, flint and Lucario worked with the other trainers to stop team rockets attack, eventually succeeding in driving them away.

The attacks were raining down hard and fast now, with Hyper Beams, lightning, fire, and who-knows-what-else flashing by so fast Anise couldn’t keep track of it all. She clutched Halcyon to her chest, desperately hugging the Swablu as she maintained a shimmering bubble of Safeguard around them in some small attempt to protect Anise and her pokemon. The healer was riding Sola, her rental Ponyta, and mostly trusting the fleet-footed pokemon to dodge anything to the best of her abilities. The Ponyta was also doing most of the attacking, since Anise hated battling and hadn’t bothered to train Felix, her Delcatty, in any damaging attacks. Beside her, the cat pokemon used Assist to borrow Sola’s attacks as both pokemon shot streams of flame at any Rocket pokemon that came near.

And now there were missiles! Anise stared aghast at the streaking explosives that the remaining Rocket helicopters were firing down. This was like escaping from the Inn all over again! No, worse, because the pokemon attacks had a far greater chance of hurting someone than the tear gas. As she surveyed the area, some Rocket helicopters flew back from the Inn. With a jolt, Anise noticed one of the Rockets who had traveled with the caravan hanging out the window of a helicopter. Oh no! Their attacks had been too little, too late, and they Rockets had rescued their trapped teammates! The Rockets seemed to have the upper had now, raining down attacks from above with missiles and pokemon alike, and taking far too little damage in return. Anise closed her eyes helplessly as the explosions and shouting picked up pace around her.

Crash!

A very odd-sounding explosion made Anise jerk up and stare in the direction of the sound. The shrine! They’d broken the shrine! A missile must have hit the old stone structure and shattered it, since only ragged bits of stone were left in its place. And among them there was…an old-looking pokeball?

Suddenly, with another loud crack! and burst of light, a Lucario burst out of the pokeball, which crumbled into pieces at its feet. The Lucario looked angry…no, beyond angry; furious, outraged! It surveyed the destruction around it: the burning conflagrations that once were trees, the formerly grassy ground churned to lifeless mud by all the trampling feet, the shouting trainers and townsfolk screaming in panic, and the shattered shrine to its former trainer. It glared at anyone and everyone, clearly blaming all present for the destruction.

Then it leaped into action, tossing glowing blue balls of energy throughout the area, which hit Rockets, trainers, and even townsfolk indiscriminately. The hard look in its eyes told that it cared not what it hit, only that everyone must pay for the destruction of the monument to its beloved trainer. Everything it hit took heavy damage; helicopters were downed in one hit, pokemon were thrown for yards and slumped unconsciously to the ground. Humans…well, Anise looked quickly away before she could see what sort of damage an attack like that could do to a human.

“Stop attacking! You’re only making it worse!” she yelled desperately, but only her pokemon heard her. The quickly halted their attacks, and even Halcyon dropped her Safeguard. Then Anise had no breath for words as she clung to Sola’s saddle for dear life while the Ponyta jumped and dodged, trying to keep her rider safe from the attacks. The mayhem around her seemed to have eased up somewhat, but only because many of the combatants were becoming too badly damaged to keep fighting.

Anise choked back a sob. Anything anybody was doing was making the situation worse! And at this rate, everyone was going to destroy each other! This was why she hated battling so much! She could never command something that could cause this much devastation! She was a healer, for goodness sake; someone who worked to safe life, not destroy it!

“Please stop!” she half shouted, half sobbed. “Don’t do this! It doesn’t have to be this way!” Sola, unsure what her rider meant, skidded to a halt. Anise’s grip had been jolted loose and she fell off the saddle, twisting just in time to fall on her back and avoid crushing the Swablu in her arms. As Halcyon chirped alarmingly, Anise climbed to her feet. She faced the rampaging Lucario with tears streaming down her face, both in sympathy for the Lucario’s loss of its trainer’s monument and in sorrow for the devastation around her.

All her knowledge of herbs and medicine was useless here. She could soothe a wary pokemon with pokenip, or ease its pain with many kinds of herbs, but no plant or medicine she knew could stop a pokemon that was this riled up. In a way, she almost felt the Lucario had reason to act as it did, but that didn’t negate the fact that it was causing so much hurt. She had to do something, even if the effort proved to be in vain.

“Please stop!” she yelled again, having nothing else but words to use. Her words…and her pokemon’s. “Felix, Halycon, Sing a duet please!” Felix nodded and opened his mouth, singing a soothing melody he’d used many times before to calm angry or anxious patients. To Anise’s ears, the chaotic noise of the battle seemed to fade into the background as her pokemon’s voice filled the air. Halcyon chirped and joined in, weaving a sweet harmony to Felix’s melody, adding bright, hopeful trills that rose above the din of battle like a bird in flight.

“Please, calm down,” Anise said to the Lucario, who seemed to not take any notice of the music. Anise pressed on anyway, having nothing left to try, and nothing left to lose. She sniffled and continued, “I know we’ve done you wrong. That shrine was to your trainer, right? The one who helped found this town long ago. You must have been watching over it for a long time, and maybe the town, too. We had no right to intrude on this place, and to bring this devastation to it.”

“But the townspeople are here, too! The descendents of the people who settled in that town with your trainer are getting caught in the crossfire!” Anise had scrunched her eyes shut in desperation. Anise fancied that the Lucario had stopped its attacks to listen, since the sounds of the battle seemed to have disappeared. All the heard was her own voice and the voices of her pokemon, with her voice almost a descant to their harmony. She refused to open her eyes and check if this was true, for fear of breaking the spell. “We’d tried to help them, to bring them to this safe place away from Team Rocket, who’d done them nothing but harm. The townsfolk have honored your shrine, passing on the legend of your trainer and his loyal pokemon. They don’t deserve to be the object of your wrath.”

“And just as we have helped them, we trainers can help you. We can work together to stop the villains who’ve harmed your town, rained destruction on your glade and smashed your shrine. We can help it all recover, to lend our strength in rebuilding the town, replanting the glade and restoring the shrine. When we work together, we can achieve great things; humans and pokemon working together for the good of all. But we need you to trust us, to give us a chance. Let us help you!”

Finally out of words, Anise lifted her voice in wordless song to join her pokemon. She started by echoing Felix’s melody as she got a feel for the music, then started to weave her own harmony among the tunes of her two pokemon; Felix’s soothing melody, Halcyon’s joyful harmony, and Anise’s determined counterpoint. Their song embodied the very qualities she had just pleaded for; human and pokemon working together to combine their strengths in an effort to help all.

Unseen by Anise, Sola had stood behind her through the whole speech in silent support. As the field quieted around them, with pokemon and humans alike falling silent or slumping in sleep, the Lucario too has paused its actions to stare at the singing trainer and pokemon. The Pontya shifted slightly, accidentally bumping Anise’s bag, which had slipped to the ground in the struggle. The movement jostled free a pokeball that Anise had forgotten she had. The small sphere fell to the ground and bumped a short distance away, rolling gently to a stop near the Lucario.
