i.e. a child from whatever side drops his ball and it bounces over to my side of the street and he comes to retrieve it.

Yes, well, you usually dont see things like that which are actually discussion ideas/topics with all the junk of people's two cents of 'I'm going to join this on blah blah blah's side' without contributing to any real discussion.
If you're going to do it like an actual war, with actual armies consisting of NPCs, then I may have some sort of a suggestion for running a wargame.

It'd be cool we had a "Your either with us or against us" type of fanatically draft instead of recruitment. That way it sort of drags everyone that has alot of public relations into it, forcing them to take a side. Or at least to pretend to.

Where they get branded, just to make sure they're not just saying that to get inside information and sell them out or claim immunity from both sides.

Basically your on one side or the other, no middle ground. If you say no to both, your against both! If you say yes to both, your a traitor and your against both! You have to pick a side, or basically be everyones enemy. I mean we do that sort of thing nowadays, we're just not so open when it comes to killing people over it. In a state of civil unrest they can be. 3nodding

It can be brutal but more than that it will be downright chaotic. Though it would have to involve alot of NPC's or even mobs of NPC's to push the "With us or against us" idea.

Yes! But upgrade their tech. Its more like machine guns, pistols, shotguns, swords, and especially katana's because this is Gaia. This of course will lead to rioting in the streets and such.
