Lord of Armageddon -Dessynea- Lord of Armageddon I don't mean to start something but aren't diseases technically population control? (Although, looking at our world population, we can see how much they've failed). I'm glad we might be well on the way of finding a cure for HIV/AIDS, but still...
I'd still rather people not die of HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS don't exactly KILL people, per say. They just weaken immune systems so other diseases can move in and do the job themselves.
I do know that, thank you.
But they wouldn't have died from those disease if they hadn't had HIV/AIDS first.

Owwin There are better ways to control population, women's education in areas with really high birthrates actually brings the birthrate down, which is a much better way to control population than upping the death rate.

I am not trying to one up or anything. Just saying that if AIDS is cured and is no longer a problem, maybe more people will want to spend time on other problems? Like educating women and young girls in India? Just a thought.

It just really bothered me because I know several people with AIDS and people who have died and I don't think it is fair to just call their deaths "Population control."

*peers at Reg* EXACTLY! the original word was used for people who had their souls taken in voodoo rituals and tried to get more people for their master. I don't see the problem with that. I mean if anybody sees it as a problem you just gotta take out the voodoo priest.

I still don't like the subject myself, but I cannot deny that diseases have been an effective and natural part population control pretty much since life began. I'm not saying let's not cure terrible diseases like AIDS and Cancer, I'm just saying that sometimes diseases are a necessary evil. If we eliminate them all, there'd still be a significant growth in population regardless of how many safe sex, abstinence program, etc. there are and unfortunately, too many people will end up killing us all as well.

Things survive. It is how life works. If the population goes out of control something will happen to bring it down, and if we take out one disease there will always be another one. Just see this as a triumph for science XD
