Flutes Rock!!! I've been playing flute in band for 9 years now. this year due to schedualing conflicts at college I'm in a flute trio rather than full band, but it's cool cause the school has a bass flute that I get to play sometimes while the second flute plays piccolo the third person just plays her normal flute.

Flute high notes are amazing. The highest note is loud enough to split eardrums! >.<

Two of the five flutes in our band are such bitches! Ohmylord, they pass notes in the middle of songs, and shake their heads from side to side. It is so ******** annoying, Because of them, our whole band sucks.

I should know, I am one.
You cannot imagine how many flute jokes I have had to put up with in the past few years. Good lord, it's aggrivating.
Our band directer has just left on maternity leave and we've got a sub to teach us, but our percussionists keep being buttholes and acting retarded.
At least when our old teacher was here she would throw stuff at them and they'd shut up. stare

i play the flute i've been playing for 3 years! and it fun playing high notes while annoying the person next to me( ahe was a b***h though so i had to until she told on me) mrgreen

Does anyone happen to know a different fingering for the very high b flat other than the normal one? Its hard to move your fingers fast enough to get that note clear for a 16 notes runs.

Twilight: I do believe if you do a regular B flat and blow a very very small stream of air, it should come out. It may be a little...I think too flat and so roll the mouthpiece in.
Yeah I'm a flutist. It's a bit strange though because I'm the only flutist with A.) Colorful Hair. B.) The only quiet flutist and C.) The only flutist on time for class.
Our band teacher's not so smart though. He put the 2 strongest playing flutes in the back (Including me) So when we play a song with parts, we have to play so it very very soft like...ppp soft. Then when we do fff, we have to play at like...mf. It angers me. That is why I'm trying for a solo in one of our songs. I'll so them the meaning of 'tone quality'.
Oh and we have these things called Solo/Ensemble Contests and Soloist and small ensembles form together and they conduct music given to them and play it for judges. As is no teacher help unless you ask for it. I entered a solo (Very easy) and a 6 person flute ensemble with 3 flutes, One piccolo, one Alto Flute and a Bass flute. I'm the only 2nd class Flute in there. The rest are Freshman or Seniors. I feel loved! heart
I wrote alot!....Ha...I just love band all too much.
