">Tch<" A single annoyed cluck of the Sandshrew's tongue, his black eyes darting backward for an instant. Ears pressing against his skull the Sandshrew immediately rolled forward, body curling into a tight ball as his bladed hide shifted and lined up. He was a juggernaut, a stone wall which the Archen had no hope of piercing. All he had to do was keep believing in this fact and it would be true!

Acting swiftly the Sandshrew would roll forward, sweeping his claws forward, shadows seeming to rip through the air as he attempted another Nightslash.

(15-13)+(7-8 ) = 1 DMG. Urvogel is at 16 HP!
As the Sandshrew's Nightslash struck Urvogel, the ancient bird was sent reeling back in surprise. So, first blood to the opponent, eh? Well, not quite first blood- although the Sandshrew's attack had hit firm and true, the Archen's body was a bit tougher than his feathery frame showed. Though a bit stunned, he recovered, staring intently at the Sandshrew. Without a noise, he darted forward as fast as he could, striking with a Quick Attack!

Snorting slightly, the Sandshrew would slap his tail in the sand. That had been a good blow, and the next one looked all the more deadly; but he was hardly going to allow this to end like that. He had made the challenge and he would ensure he was the victor. One's luck didn't simply change at the drop of the hat!
Sweeping one arm though the air the Sandshrew's claws would become cloaked in shadow, an aura blacker then the night. Before now he'd been coming out ahead in this confrontation...even if it hadn't looked like it...and he'd be damned if he was about to lose now!
Sprinting forward the Sandshrew would fling himself into the air, swinging his right claw down even as Urvogel came toward him. It was all down to this Nightslash!

The two fighters clashed in a storm cloud of fury and sand. As the dust settled, it was clear- though the Sandshrew's attack had been strong, it was the Archen's speed that had won out... for now. He'd had pressed his luck, and come out on top!
Urvogel crowed, flapping his wings. Excited poured through his body like adernaline, raising his senses. This was what battle was all about! The rush, the risks, the arms! Well, metaphorical arms, in his case. Eyes burning with battle-lust, he didn't move back from his close advantage. Wing shining in the noon-day sun, he swung forward his Steel Wing.

Spitting blood off to one side, the Sandshrew wasn't about to let it end like that. The Archen was getting overconfident, and for that he would pay dearly. Flexing the claws of his left hand, the limb would burst into the shadowy black aura previously worn by the right. Black eyes narrowing the Ground-Type would fling himself forward, swinging the arm in a Nightslash Counter-attack!

Though his opponent was on the retreat, the Sandshrew was hardly going to allow it. Both claws became shrouded in shadow, flicking across his limbs as he darted forward. Like a wild beast the Sandshrew would swing and slash, flailing his arms in a barrage of Nightslash attempting to do more then simply whittle away at the Archen!

Urvogel snarled as the fury of attack sent him reeling back, off-balance and unaware. Flailing he pulled himself back up, glaring furiously at the Sandshrew. They were both down to their last hit, both struggling in pain. One last hit... and it would all be decided. How poetic. Warbling, he lurched forward-
- and before he could so much as take a step, he was summoned back. "Thank you, Urvogel, that will do." Vanni's voice was clipped and polite, but her stormy green eyes belied her true emotions. That had been far too close, and no matter what, she wasn't going to risk it all. That was Urvogel's way. They were too close to the end of this.
Riffling through her purse, she spoke casually to the Sandshrew. "If you want to perform a tactical retreat, I wouldn't hold it against you. You've fought valiantly, and all we want to do is pass through without incident. But if you don't..." Vanni summoned something to the field in a blaze of bright light. "Let's continue shall we?"
Bellona had no idea what the hell was going on. She'd been fighting a massive dinosaur... and everything afterword was blank. What she did know was that she was facing a furious, battered Sandshrew. Instinctively, she went on the defensive.

Narrowing his eyes, the Sandshrew would spit blood onto the sand before him. He would have done it in the child's face, or at least at her feet, but he was too tired, and she was too tall. Next time. Still, he knew when to strike and when to not...now was not the best moment.
Instead the Sandshrew would curl into a tight ball, bracing himself, deadening his nerves, all in preparation for the next impact. He'd switched tactics, and now was using Endure!
