I'm just overreacting to what Veled said about all of y'all. Now I'm past the outraged stage and into pure anger. It burns within me. My tears are dry. They're just bullies. Not everyone. I'm not saying everyone who's prochoice is like this, because that would make me a bloody liar, but the ones saying this stuff? Do they just feel so inadequate that they need to belittle and jeer at people who're different just to feel good? I don't get it. They seem like relatively intelligent people until they start discussing things like, oh, anything involving someone who holds different beliefs. Then all of a sudden they revert to five year olds hurling insults.

Quote: I can get over the fact these people all wanted several of my friends very dead. I can get over the fact that many of these people wanted my friend's baby dead. I can get over the fact that they want many, many more people dead. I can understand that. You...understand that?

Look, they don't want the people dead just because.
They see pregnancy as an infringement on bodily integrity, and most of them don't even see a fetus as a person.
I disagree with them, but that doesn't mean I don't understand them. I think that there should be better ways for women to keep their jobs, scholarships, etc. when they get pregnant. There should be ways of making women equal in the workplace that don't involve abortion, not just because I morally object to abortion but because men are never forced to choose between killing their children or losing their jobs. Why should women be? Gah, sorry, don't want to go on this rant again.
The point is, many people who are pro-choice believe that personhood doesn't start until birth or the third trimester, when the brain starts functioning the way an infant brain does. I may disagree and see flaws in it, but that doesn't mean I can't understand where someone's coming from.
Almost everyone in RL that I love is pro-choice. The man I'm marrying is pro-choice. I'm used to it. If a fetus wasn't a person and was just a parasite, then I would be too. But that is not my belief.
Also...I wasn't always pro-life. It's not like I just heard someone go, "OMG! babies are dying!" And I was like, Oh noes! I'm pro-life! Before I made my decision, I did tons of research, a lot of thinking, and a lot of soul-searching. I ended up here eventually, but that doesn't mean I was born pro-life.

*glomps Kate*
Some of them hate me just because I'm pro-life, others hate me because of the ED thread. I tried debating once.
Never. Again.
Others hate me because they have every right to hate a crude, often vulgar, bitchy, and growing teenager. But I don't undertand; isn't everybody crude, vulgar, bitchy, or a teenager once in their lives? I mean, why is it forgiveness and understanding and kindness have gone so low on the To-Do List?
Why do we open our hearts and minds to people with different opinions, yet when they claim to be pro-choice, some of them just don't support our choice to believe what we do?
*sigh* Don't leave Gaia, Kate. You're one of the biggest reasons I love this guild so much. To have people like you here. Please, don't take that away. *is actually crying*
When I'm out someplace or doing something other than Gaia, as soon as I pull into the driveway, my first thoughts are those of this guild. Of all of you.
Some of you don't know me too well, and some of you are my heroes. *hugs Kate*
But I love each and every single one of you, and I love the fact you're here, and existing, and breathing, and being who you are . . . and not dead. You truly don't know how grateful I am to have you.
And you know what? The pro-choicers who are nice to me and then turn around and call me anti-choice - I love them, too. Even the ones who hate my guts. Who hate who I am, who hate what I stand for. I love them, because they exist, and I'm glad they do. I'm glad they are who they are.
Even if they despise me, and you, and all of us . . . I love everyone who exists simply because they do. Because they're here, and not in Heaven. Because their mothers chose to keep them.
I love all of you, God. I love everyone, dead or alive, because I believe everyone is made in the image of God.
I feel this way, but I wonder: If I were aborted, would no one mourn? Would no one know of my departure? Would no one care or hurt or feel loss? Would no one shove aside that whole "choice" crap and say to themselves, "She's gone"?
Because if one of you were aborted, I would mourn. And I mean anyone.
Because I mourn the loss of life; the loss of a human, no matter how big or small or dumb or smart or tall or short or skinny or fat . . .
I'm pro-life because I love all of you. No, pro-choicers who may be reading this. Not the other way around.

Well, if you'd been aborted, who'd be my ho? sad
I'm joking, of course, but in a way I'm serious. I do mourn the lives of those aborted. And I will try and follow your example and love the people who seem to hate me.

Thank you, love.
If you were aborted, who would be my pimp? :' (
But, seriously. You needn't follow my example. I follow yours. You're so amazingly wonderful, Kate. All of you are.
Sometimes, I wonder if someone who could have made a huge impact on the way I live my life was aborted. But thank Christ I have you guys, and my parents, my sister, family, friends, religious faith, and conscience to be there for me.
All of you truly make my life worth living.

...Geez, now I'm glad Kate tried leaving first so I wouldn't have to worry about the guilt trip. ninja
lol, I was going to leave the guild too though, because a) I'm not going to have much time for Gaia in the Fall anyways because I'm going to have so much school to get done, and b) It's not nearly as comfortable now that just anyone can peek in and bother us. sad It doesn't feel nearly as safe.
As it is, I'm going to have to severely cut down on the time I spend in-guild, but I guess I'll stay for ya'll. whee Because ya'll really are the only thing that kept me here on Gaia. I nearly quit mere days after joining Gaia, because everything was so... Bleh. For one thing, this was a long time ago, and I distinctly remember walking in on threads full of almost-nude anime pictures, and that bothered me. For another thing, in the ED or GD, everyone was always so nasty to each other. And then there were the RP forums, where every RP was either full of people with bad grammar who can't spell worth crap, or were already so far along there was no hope for me to try and catch up on the story and join in. But I decided to give it another chance, and I found the guild, and I was hooked.
And, though I've taken time off in the past for various reasons, I don't regret it, because I've found some of my best friends in the guild, I've refined my arguments and my reasons for being Pro-Life, and, ironically, I've even come to respect the other side's opinions because of the guild. I was actually a lot like Talon-Chan (except Pro-Life) when I joined Gaia. I was all cool and aloof and sure of my opinion, and completely intolerant of people who didn't share it.
...Anyways, I love everyone too!

Well, since I am new, I have no beef with the pro-choice guild. But I do have beef with pro-choicers on my campus. A group called Bears for Life received permission to plain 3,500 mini flags in rememberance of the 3,500 babys aborted every day. Then that night they were removed and replaced with a sign that said, " Abortion saves 7,000 adults every day." I can understand their need to speak their mind, but to go and undercut Bears for Life was low. Here's the link to the news article. crying That was beautiful. But I still need to rant.
Browsed through their guild for the first time, made me sick. Some of them sound so hateful. "Pro-lifers, or at least the majority, are ignorant, idiotic, and hardly ever listen to logic" ", reading the pro-life guild could be a new form of abortion! Pisses me off so much that I insta-miscarry!). If there is a better example of mod-mentality and its dangers, I haven't seen it yet. "
*bangs head against desk* It's hard to like these people. I never debate anymore. You know why? I hate people looking down on me while they're arguing. I always get that, about anything.
"They all jump on the band wagon. It's just plain disgusting. Not one of them speaks up and says "actually, the statistics are..." or "actually, the fact is..." They all just mob together and spread their lies and filth. "
Anyone give me an example of how they don't do that too? Do they speak up to one another, or do they follow the leader, so to speak, and turn right around and say that?
"Yes, they are a bunch of blundering morons. Yes, they are misinformed to a great degree. Yes, none of them listen to reason and/or logic. Yes, they should be beaten repeatily with a stick. "
And who said you were so greatly informed? I like how they call us preteens, when, i don't know, calling us morons and other names a more preteen, childish thing to do?
Bodily integrity. You want the fetus to pop out and say" Excuse me, may I have permission to live?" How would it know if it was infringing upon you, if it can't even think! If it's brain doesn't develop until later on, how would it know?

I agree.
And honestly? They are morons if they think we don't correct each other. Just look at the new thread about "The Scream." First post said, "Actually, the credibility of that film is debatable."
I actually dislike bad Pro-Life arguments more then I do Pro-Choice arguments. Because they make us look bad. When I see something I know is wrong, I correct them.
As opposed to Pro-Choicers who, last time I was in the ED thread about a year ago, didn't care about whether their fellow Pro-Choicers were arguing well or not; If someone argued against them, they fully supported them and made s**t up if they had to.
