Jerinn let the sheet drop into a rumpled pile at his feet, ready to be picked up again later. In his honest opinion, these two didn't quite look like hunters of the same . . . calibre as himself. But he wasn't going to be rude and point that out.

Roots and berries, indeed. That didn't bode well. And for Jerinn, a meal wasn't a meal without something hot and freshly caught. Sometimes he'd even cook it, if he was feeling especially civilised, but most often he just liked to indulge in the more animalistic side of his nature.

"Crossbow, huh? Well, that's okay, so long as you don't shoot me. I like to get in close, y'see."

The manly adventurer cleared his throat politely. "It sounds like you simply need cover in case we run into a pack of wolves or a bear. I don't mind hanging back to watch your back." After being made fun of by his sister, and because Jerinn wasn't human, Castor felt less than useful. The mutt was probably better at every thing about hunting, like a dog with apposable thumbs. "Lead the way and I will follow." For now at least.

Cecilia came back out just then, looking rather dusty. The room behind her, on the other hand, looked less so than it had moments before. "Follow where?" she asked in an excited tone. She obviously thought she was coming.

((I realize this RP seems to be dead, but I'm willing to revive it if you are. sweatdrop ))

Goodness! The guy acted as if he'd never heard of a barter system before. I do the dishes and/or some laundry, they give me a meal and a place to sleep. Simple.

Still feeling the sting of the rejection from the city's inn, Spyse turned to scowl over her shoulder at the direction she'd just come, hoping that that guy would somehow see it all the way up the road. However her scowl was short lived as she turned just in time to receive a lock of her royal blue hair in her eye. Sighing as she ran her fingers through her hair to get it out of her face, she tilted her head to the right to allow her hair to fall to one side, making it easier to braid. Thinking to herself quietly, she half listened to the area around herself.

I guess that's what I get for trying to be mean.... At least the other guy at the door was nice enough to give me directions.

On her way out from the city's inn, a man had been kind enough to give her directions to and inn that was "more willing to accept that type of payment". She'd been walking for a while now, the sun was starting to set it'd been so long, and Spyse was just now seeing the crossroads the guy had described. Picking up her pace, she eagerly made her way towards the inn hoping to get a nice meal before anything else, but she stopped sbruptly as the building came into plain view. Throwing her hands up in the air and then letting them drop to her sides as she rolled her eyes, Spyse became frustrated and spoke out loud.

You've got to be kidding me! Looks like no one's been in this place for years! Crossing her arms and tapping her foot as she looked from the inn in front of her to the road she'd just traveled, Spyse entertained the idea of going back to the city and giving those two guys a piece of her mind, but the sky was quickly darkening and it was at least shelter. Sighing again, she dropped her arms, and her pride, and headed for the door.

Better to be safe than sorry.... Knocking loudly a few times, Spyse called out towards the door. Hello? Anyone here? She then pushed the door opened and peered inside before entering.

A young man with red hair was just approaching the door to open it. At the first knock he had peered out the window and saw her. Since it appeared that there was only one person, he figured he could take his chances and let her in.

"Looking for a place to stay the night?" he asked her as he took a step back to give her some space. "I don't think any body owns this place so feel free."

The boy had set his things in the corner of what used to be the bar. The chairs and tables had been stacked in the middle of the floor, gathering dust, but there was plenty of empty floor to go around. He had parked in a corner opposite the door, with the chairs and tables serving as a pathetic shield. But hey, it might give him that three seconds before some one noticed him.

The boy was dressed in clothes a little too big. Any one with money, even most travelers, had their clothes tailored to their size because that is just the way things were done in a world that did not have factories. These must be hand-me-downs of some sort. But a belt around the leather pants rolled up over the tips of boots (those DID fit), and a flowing white undershirt served to clothe him well enough. He also wore a serious look held up by red eyes and a flat turn of the mouth as of someone trying to be polite but not going so far as to smile. He held his hand out. At least he was clean from head to foot, and his clothes too. The well she had passed outside probably accounted for that. "My name is Aniane."

((Congradulations on being recently married. I'm sure it'll be a blast! Though we've lived together for the last two years, we're wondering if it'll be all that different. sweatdrop ))

Though the young neko looking woman had called out, Spyse really hadn't expected anyone to be there and was startled to see the red haired man. Jerking back a bit out of reflex, the end of her braided ponytail, which had manged to stay put up until now, began to unravel.

Oh! Yes, I..... Thank you for sharing with me.

Stepping in and closing the door behind herself without turning her back to the man, she took a moment to take in the room and reflect.

So I was right, now one has been here for a while.... At least it's shelter though...

Looking up at the ceiling, Spyse noted the areas it had been patched up. Hoping to herself it wouldn't rain, she glanced back at the man as he held out his hand to shake, the clothes not really catching her attention, but his facial expression however did. Sticking out her hand and taking his in a firm handshake, Spyse did smile and offered her name in return. Spyse, nice to meet you.

The last part was said out of haibt as she didn't really know what kind of guy she was dealing with. Raising her eyebrows at him in the manner that most people do when they don't know what else to say, she stepped further into the room looking around for where she could stay. Spying the shelves behind the bar, she nodded and, for the first time, allowed her back to be towards Aniane. Walking towards them, her body let her know just how tied it was from all the travelling, not sleepy, just worn out. Leaning against the shelves, she folded her arms and turned back towards Aniane in case he wanted to talk, the look on her face clearly showing she missed conversation.

~She had been walking along the roadside for, honestly she didn't know how long she had been on foot for, but it may as well have been a hundred years, as that is what it felt like to her. She looked up through a weary eye to the run down building before her, "Oh well, it's not the best looking place, but at least it looks like a place to rest for a while.". She walked up to the door, making her way past the large overgrown trees and vines, pulling on the handle with what was left of her strength, her head spinning as the blood rushed to it when she was met with the warm air inside. Clutching her breifcase in one hand, her only possession she carries with her, "Should've just ordered a cab..." as she searches for the nearest place to sit or lay down, but a feeling of weakness in her legs overwhelms her, and she collapses, just past the door, as it creaks shut behind her.~

"Pleased to meet you."

Aniane hesitated pathetically. He wasn't much for small talk, or for talking at all, but clearly she expected something from him. "There's a room back there you could use if you wish," he informed her politely as her eyes burned holes in his skull. "It looks like it used to be a kitchen. There's a door to the outside from there and both doors lock so it should be pretty safe."

They both heard clumsy foot steps outside. "Did you hear...?" he asked as he turned around and crept to the window in a crouch. Luckily for the weary traveler approaching, he saw her before she burst through the door. He tried signaling to Spyse but they didn't exactly have a signal worked out. He made an OK sign and hoped she recognized it. This new addition to their party didn't look like she could take any more beating.

"What...is a cab?"
PostPosted: Fri Apr 21, 2006 9:27 am

While in the process of coming up with a witty comment about she didn't need to leave this room in order to be safe, Spyse did indeed hear the noise outside. The tip of her tail twitched frantically as her cat ears strained to hear because she couldn't see as easily from her position, she relaxed a bit as Aniane gave her a universal symbol that everything was alright. As the woman stumbled in from what Spyse hoped was exhaustion, she shrugged and shook her head at Aniane's inquiry about a cab though he probably wasn't talking to her.

Are you okay ma'am? Anything we..... I could do to help?

It occurred to Spyse that volunteering someone else's help was a good way to get her head chewed off and even though this place belonged to none of them, she didn't want to have to leave due to friction. Hanging her thumbs from her pant pcokets, she cocked her head to the side, causing her braided ponytail to further unravel as she waited to see what she could do to help, even if it was just to get the woman some water from the well outside.

~The look on her face had said it all, yes, she was exhausted, she had barely any energy left, but the grip on the handle of her breifcase was still firm. She lay there, managing to roll onto her back, reaching to adjust her eyepatch upon her left eye, "My, apologies," she wheezes as she speaks, "I've been on the road for days.... walking...empty highway,". Her eyes glance over to the bar, "Any chance, something to drink?" She feels bad for asking so much, she manages to pull herself into a chair and sets her breifcase in front of her on the table, laying her head upon it, her deep blue hair falling around her head and shoulders, much like a long drapery.~

Aniane seemed suspicious of her, but he shrugged and moved to the fireplace. Ignoring the grey of dead mold between the bricks, Aniane crouched and fiddled with an arrangement of twigs and branches he had started earlier. With his back turned towards them he started the fire; it was done by magic but the girls may have just thought that he was practiced at starting fires, since he had every thing else ready to begin with.

The room began to fill with a comfortable warm glow. Outside it was uncomfortably humid and a bit on the cold side because it had rained the day before and might rain again. But the inside quickly turned to dry and lukewarm air to comfort the weary travelers.

Seeing no reason to be suspicious, Spyse began looking around behind the bar without moving from her position. Spying a broken glass on the floor, she picked it up to investigate. Coated in dust except for where her fingers had just touched, it was indeed broken, but would be able to hpld enough for a drink. Moving out from behind the bar, her tail twitching, Spyse headed past Aniane building the fire, not noticing the use of magic.

You're very skilled at this survival thing I see, I should make sure to learn from you before you go our seperate ways. I'll be right back I'm just heading out to the well to wash off the glass and get you some water.

The last part was directed towards the woman who seemed to have fallen asleep. Making her way out the door, careful to close it behind he to keep what little warmth there was inside for their sake. Over by the well, Spyse looked inside, though her vision to the bottom was obscured by the night sky reflecting off of the water. Looking around, she spotted the chain to pull up the bucket. Setting dwon the glass next to the cobblestone well, she grabbed for the chain and realized it was actually an extremely thick rope. Makes sense... Don't want a chain rusting in the water... Pulling up the bucket, she set it on the mouth of the well and picked up the glass again, pouring a bit of the water over the glass while she turned it around to ensure it got off as much dust as possible, then pouring some water into the glass, she pushed the bucket with her elbow as she shook her free hand to get the excess water off. Turning back towards the building to head back in it wasn't long before she heard the splash and thunk of the bucket hitting the water and then probably bouncing off the side of the well. Again carefully closing the door behind herself Spyse set the broken glass of water down next to the woman a little more loudly than she normally would have to wake the woman.

Here you are ma'am. Sorry about the glass, just drink from the other side.

~She wasn't asleep, she just didn't have enough energy to move. She picked up the glass, narrowing her one eye and seeing it was broken, "This place is more run down than I thought, but thank you anyways." as she spied the little one in the corner making the fire, slightly noticing the use of magic, but paying no mind to it, as she thought it was just her weary mind playing tricks on her. She had turned the glass to the non-damaged side and taken a long sip of water from it.~

Aniane straighted in his crouch, suddenly preenful. He wasn't prone to arrogance but neither had he received such compliments in a while. Men compliment with only a nod and by not hitting you. He had run into a few of those on his travels. But a compliment from a woman, especially a woman who was not a whore, was completely different.

He left the fire then, seeing that it was lusting healthfully into the air of its own accord, safely contained inside the brick fireplace. He leaned against the counter the women were both at. He felt a tad on the short side. "I don't have much in the way of food with me, but what you need most is rest," he informed the exhausted woman. "I'll see if I can find a matress upstairs and set you something up. I can carry you to bed if you need..."

He turned to Spyse. "And then you and I can go hunting and trapping."
PostPosted: Thu Apr 27, 2006 1:02 pm

Smiling as Aniane came over, Spyse felt better to see he was opening up more. He probably just hadn't had company for a while.... Nodding at his diagnosis of the woman, her ears perked up when he asked Spyse to help him go hunting. Her smile broadened and became sly, revealing her canines, before she spoke.

Well of course! Though, what makes you think I'm any good?

She hung her thumbs from her jean pockets and cocked her head to the side as her tail twitched back and forth dramatically. Her gaze returned to the new woman though, concerned about how bad she was fairing.

Any particular animals you can't eat? Though to be truthful I'll be learning more than doing out there.

She bit her lip as the sting of her earlier comment came back to her and made her feel as though she'd made herself look conceited. Ears back, Spyse cleared her throat and adverted her eyes.

~She had smiled to Spyse and the young man talking, although feeling like she was going to fall asleep right there at the table, "I'll think I'll go see if I can find an empty room while you two go hunting," she said, "Which way?" she asked the young man, it had occured to her that she still didn't know the layout of this place, her right eye the only one uncovered at the moment, the left still being covered by her patch. She had turned to the woman beside the young man, "Actually," she thought, "I'm not really that big on meat, but I do eat poultry occasionally."~
