Lavender BurninghamWhen she saw Rhona coming at her, swinging a piece of sharp metal that she got from who even knew where, Lavender froze, squeezing her eyes shut and tensing up. Oh god. Had she pissed Rhona off so badly that now her ex was out to kill her? She felt a wave of relief that the metal didn’t get a chance to slice into her skin. It did, however knock the hat off of her head, and after the web finally was removed from her face thanks to Virell…even more thanks to him for thinking along the same lines as she had been.
“Damnit…”
She tried to flash a smile at her blonde friend and went to grab the hat, but…maybe…it wasn’t…
“Oh my god.” Her hat was gone, obviously. Crushed beneath the body of a huge spider, which raised two of it’s disgusting front legs and shoved her over, causing Lavender to fall over and flail for a moment, quite like a turtle. “Jesus ******** Christ.” There was real fear in the girl’s voice and she finally managed to turn herself over, scrambling up and moving away as quickly as she possibly could, trying to get further into the maze. Trying to just get away. “Virell…Rhona…run.

Rhona Lee -- Winnie Sanderson -- +1 spikeSwinging madly? Rhona looked at Lavender's friend in confusion and then back at Lavender with the same expression as the other woman froze in fear. It hadn't been an uncontrolled hacking though, she had been careful to go only for the webs. She had only wanted to help... all of the hope that she had felt when Lavender first called for her when the lights went out drained from her body, leaving her to feel cold and empty. She didn't even bother to keep it from her face. Maybe she should slide away... she'd seen Elex in the chaos before... but she also couldn't just leave these two now that she had joined them... Rhona's thoughts were cut short when something fell off the hedge in front of her and landed just feet in front of her. She didn't wait for Lavender to tell her to run. Now she was swinging madly in long, uncontrolled swipes with the heavy end of her spike, knocking the spider this way and that as hard as she could. It pitched and rolled until she slammed the pointed end of her found weapon through its skull and then it moved no more. Lavender and her friend would find Rhona's sudden violence distasteful but she couldn't bring herself to care. She was sick of trying to help and ******** it up. Rhona retrieved her weapon from the spider's skull and continued, face set in obvious irritation.

Lauri Virtainen - STAKE ACQUIRED "Agreed." Giant spiders showed up, the size of cars. Nothing unexpected, really. They were being herded towards the hedge maze, which was also expected. Tactically, there was nothing strange going on, so the creatures either had someone - or some thing - intelligent enough for military tactics commanding over them, or they themselves were capable of that sort of complex pack dynamics. In another space, he might have wished to study them. "To the maze, then." Lauri headed off, not looking back as he fully expected that Archer would follow. He made it rather easily, with not a single beast even noticing him, which was interesting enough that he thought to comment on it to his companion - who was not there when he turned. No, Archer was further back, making his way steadily but...definitely having a harder time. Impatiently, Lauri called out a sharp command, "Tänne!" Come! He could feel the anger rolling off Archer, almost hear the grit of his teeth; watched a spider feel the brunt of that anger; the continual growling as they were rejoined in the maze was like music. He added one final nail in the coffin, knowing it would sink right into Archer's very bones, one tiny bit of praise. " Hyv."

Lysander CadwellHe liked spiders, really, but not when they were oversized and trying to chew on people. Chewing on him was even less of a pleasant experience. He managed to get his leg away from one of the creatures before it could do any real damage but didn't get far. Basil's question was cut off as the other man tripped into him. Unlucky for both of them as Lysander tried to keep his balance he tripped on the spider that had been trying to gnaw on his leg. The spider was quick enough to get out of the way but that meant that Lysander landed against the edge of the maze "For the love of ... ********.." He knew he hadn't let go of Basil quite fast enough, even though he tried, and he hoped the other man wouldn't end up tripping up worse with him.

GenevieveLooking around the female didn't see anything around her which she could grab, had there been anything around her it had already been grabbed by someone else - no surprise there. "I can't find anything. I'll be fine." She hoped at least, she did after all have on heels so she could use them if need be.
"I'm taking my shoes off. There is no way I can manage the maze in them." Not after the rain, which had likely soaked the ground so her heels would sink into the ground and slow her. It would also allow her to hold onto her heels and use them as a weapon if any of the spiders got too close, which she was planning on doing. This was not a situation where she could power up, as much as she would have liked.
"Let's find Jada and my parents as well." When she did enter the maze it was after some jostling and nearly being tripped by some woman, who was rather panicked and shrieking something intangible. The spiders were big, she had seen that much, as one had gotten rather close to her and had seemed prepared to attack her before someone else gained it's attention - she didn't see who. This was not good...

Jack Burnett (dressed as Disney's Peter Pan) has a metal stake
"Not the time to be trading pleasantries, but it's the time to be checking out your hair?" the green-garbed stranger sneered, raising a brow at the one called Rowan. "Right; stupid me. I'll be sure to get my priorities in order next time." Was this the one you were keeping an eye on, Elex? What's so great about him? His looks, so easily disrupted by mere webbing? What would that matter to the Negaverse?
He didn't miss the look sent Elex's way and had to snicker under his breath. His amusement only deepened once he was asked if they had met, the scathing tone glancing off his thick hide. So. You don't know after all. "Yeah, we've met," he confirmed, unable to keep the wild grin off his face in spite of their dire situation. "We met at a library I got kicked out of a while back. The name's Jack."
Thanks to the easily-distracted arachnids who threatened to attack only to change their mind, Jack guessed his introduction may have been missed, but it was no great loss. He hadn't shown up to be acknowledged. Loathe as he was to admit it, something else - some other nameless urge - had compelled him take action when he would have usually placed his own safety far above anyone else's.
Instead, there he was, shoving himself into others' problems and doing what he could to help whether they wanted it or not. What was this stupid, heroic inclination to assist and protect? He abhorred heroics. Furthermore, the trio had each other, so why was he so determined to step in and -
...That's not normal, is it? His gaze glimpsed Rowan's hand grabbing Elex's and he frowned slightly. I know I don't know a whole lot about friendships, but... Have I been reading this wrong? What are you two to each other?
It was a shame he couldn't power up and make short work of the little eight-legged beasties, but Jack settled for beating them back with his stake instead. This was too reminiscent of the attacking, sharp-petaled poinsettias from the winter event at the very same gardens the year before. At least the poinsettias weren't a cliche, though. The high school sophomore decided that whomever had orchestrated the spider assault - a Negaverse officer, perhaps? - really needed to step up their game.
"Whoops - that was close," he commented, whistling in astonishment as Elex managed to knock a spider off him with only a single cut in exchange. This cut, however, promptly began steam right before his eyes until its bearer covered it protectively with a hand. Okay, so maybe closer than I thought.
"You alright there, Trey?" Jack called at the top of his lungs and waved, doing his best to be as conspicuous as possible so they could locate one another more easily. "Looking a little pale. And not 'cause of the vampire thing."kolina ((Hello~! Apologies for butting in, but Jack is an obnoxious a**. XD; ))

Kirra Morrow – Vampire Batterina“Ugh, gross,” Kirra whinged, scraping web dregs off her skirt. This was not even funny. Spiderman was supposed to be on their team. He was probably a senshi. She waited while Briar looked around, unsure what the plan should be now that they had escaped the building and the web trap. Should she be looking for her cousin? Or Briar’s family? Or could they just do the maze now? Apparently the maze, because Briar was suddenly pushing her that way. “How come-?” she asked, but turning back to look at him gave her a pretty good glimpse of the reason why. The building was full of spiders! Super-giant spiders. And they were coming towards them fast on their gross spidery legs. “Maze, yep!” she agreed, and started running. It seemed like everyone had the same idea, and it was squishy again with all the people trying to reach the safety of the tall hedges. Her short legs were no match for the spiders, though. A clicking, foaming monster hovered over her for a minute, like a very ugly tent, and she tensed, wondering how she could outrun something so very big without her superpowers. Then as fast as it arrived, it was off after a bigger, juicier target, nearly stepping on Kirra as it went, but she dived out of the way juuuust in time. Kirra wished the other person luck, and high-tailed it for the maze entrance. Briar had said ‘keep together’, so she couldn’t let herself get scared and fall behind. * Gigi Gennaro – Broken China DollGigi was free of the gunk, but that left the worry of what had caused it. She didn’t like to jump to conclusions, but cobwebs had a certain association and she didn’t like it one bit. She couldn’t spot Kirra in the crowd, but then it was hard to pick out anyone when they were all draped in webbing. But a familiar voice carried across the shrieking crowd, calling her name. Arian! She spotted him when he waved. And his cousin and a scarecrow with him. Gigi changed direction immediately, angling for the little group. “Coming!” she yelled back. The wall of webbing chose that minute to shiver and disgorge an army of eight-legged freaks, pure nightmare fuel. She hadn’t moved far enough away yet, and one singled her out almost immediately, raising its front four legs and baring glistening fangs. Gigi jumped back as its legs came down sharply, trying to pin her before biting her. The hairy leg glanced off her shoulder, leaving shallow scratches. She hissed at the sting, but it was barely bleeding, not enough to worry about. She didn’t stay to give it another shot. She ran, while her legs were still up for it. She needed cover, and with the reception hall compromised, the maze was it. She elbowed her way towards the entrance, hoping to catch Arian’s group before they disappeared inside. Sailor Athene’s magic would have been really helpful with this, and she knew how to use her own to back him up. But even if they couldn’t safely power up now, there was no-one she’d rather have at her back to face down giant spiders.

Malcolm Everly
They were spiders. Real spiders. Real, large spiders.
Malcolm’s mind didn’t immediately register what he should be doing, but his hand registered that he should take a picture of it. He had been gripping his camera, trying to keep it safe, and realized only after the flash went off that he had taken a picture of the webbing, the spiders.
Now wasn’t any time to examine what type of picture he’d managed because the spiders decided now was a good time to attack them all.
When the spiders began to charge, Malcolm began to flee with the rest of the group. He wasn’t the fastest runner, nor was he violent enough to elbow his way around others like the crowd was doing. He simply tried to stay in line with everyone and stay away from the spiders.
A leg hooked around his ankle and, with a yelp, he hit the ground. He rolled onto his backside quickly, just in time to see a spider leering over him.
Eight hungry eyes, all on him.
Malcolm’s blood ran cold as the spider lifted one leg and clicked at him. He wasn’t entirely frozen, though; he lifted his camera and took a series of quick shots. The flash worked as expected; the spider squealed and recoiled, temporarily blinded from the bright light.
Maclolm didn’t waste time; he scrambled to his feet and bolted towards the maze before it could recover.

Virell deVilliers – In Possession of Metal Spike (Roll Total: 5)
Spiders. Giant spiders. Virell’s lip curled in disgust; it didn’t matter what sort of bug it was, they weren’t supposed to grow any larger than a penny.
These horrible things must have crawled straight out of hell.
The webs should have been a giveaway, but he had hoped that it was just some stupid prank. Now that he was face to face with them, he wasn’t sure what to do.
Except for run, of course.
He wasn’t leaving without Lavender but even as they began to bolt towards the maze he wound up having as much trouble as she did; he was in a solid sprint when a spider came out of nowhere and swiped at his legs; it clipped him just around the ankle and he found himself toppling towards the ground.
He would have landed face first if instincts hadn’t kicked in; he held his hands out an managed to do a roll, but he was already dreading the dirt that must have gotten on him.
Priorities, thogh; he could worry about staying alive and then worry about appearances later. The spider was still behind him and, expecting the worst, he reached for the first thing he could grab—a metal spike. He jerked his arm behind him as if to chase off the spider, but it was already distracted and trying to grab someone else.
Which was great for him, but sucked for them.
He pushed himself back up and rejoined Lavender quickly.
“Are you all right?” he asked, trying to figure out where Rhona was. He had the benefit of knowing the girl by her voice now, but he hadn’t been able to see her when they were introducing themselves, and all he knew was a shadowy figure.
“Where did Rhona go?” he asked, even as a voice in the back of his head unhelpfully insisted she must have been eaten by a spider.

The maze was the safest spot to go, and it had taken only seconds for the group to filter in. On one hand, it certainly helped divide the spiders—on the other hand, it divided them up, too. The good news was that there were plenty of places to hide, and if they were lucky, maybe they could even get out of there. Maybe. But, the spiders were still hungry, and still hissing and chattering and squealing— and following them. Thankfully now that the group had split up, so had the spiders, and it seemed like now the smaller groups might have had a chance to defend themselves. The spiders had the advantage of size—and of being able to climb over the hedges to find their prey. They seemed more active now, jerking violently. The white foam at their mouths frothed enough that droplets began to drip onto the ground—and burn it. You don’t want to get too close to these things, but if one finds you, you don’t have any choice—you’re going to have to fight if you want to get out of here alive. Quote: Prepare to roll! – (Anyone who has a metal stake will automatically add +1 to whatever their roll is! You cannot pass off your metal stake to anyone else. Please remember to include that you have a metal stake and a +1 bonus at the top of your post!) The spiders are attacking! You no longer have any choice but to defend yourself. You are somewhat protected by the walls of the maze, but hopefully whichever path you took was the right one; you don’t have time to explore because a hideous, oversized spider is currently attacking you and whatever group you are traveling with! At the end of this round, your spider will be defeated; please feel free to RP this out! Dice rolls only determine how much damage you sustain and the actions of spider; the damage you do is up to you and you may puppet the spider for your posts! Quote: If you roll a 1-3 you find yourself face to face with spider. It has climbed over the hedges and dropped down right in front of you; it hisses loudly and makes a noise that can make your ears ring. Frothy spit flies from its mouth; if it comes in contact with your clothes it will burn them, but if it comes in contact with your face it will only agitate it. The spider has the advantage here and may swipe at you with its long legs, attempt to skewer you with its pointed limbs, or attempt to bite you (if you are bitten, you will sustain nausea, hallucinations, fatigue, and vomiting) for a short period of time after this RP. You can choose how much damage you take, but with a roll like this, you’re going to wind up at least a little manhandled! If you roll a 4-7 you find yourself face to face with spider. It has climbed over the hedges and dropped down right in front of you; it seems a bit dazed and doesn’t immediately recognize you as a threat, but the time it took to find you gives you a major advantage. You can attack first, but be wary of the spider’s long legs; it will attempt to swipe at you or skewer you with its strangely pointed limbs. It may attempt to spit at you—so watch out! Any of the frothy foam that comes in contact with your clothes may burn it, though any that comes in contact with your skin will simply become agitated and will heal shortly after the RP ends. If you choose to take more damage, please refer to the prompt for rolling 1-3 for full information on damage options. If you roll an 8-10 you find yourself face to face with spider. It has climbed over the hedges and dropped down right in front of you; the spider seems to be distracted, perhaps with something in the distance or someone else. Either way, it’s to your advantage; you can easily get in a few strikes on the spider before it can turn to attack you. You have the most luck fighting a spider; you have the ability to find all of its weak points and it recoils every time you hit it. You will need to watch out for flailing limbs and flying spit (which can burn through clothes or agitate skin) but you might just make it out of here in one piece! If you choose to take more damage, please refer to the prompt for rolling 1-3 for full information on damage options. Remember, there is no powering up during this event—it's simply too dangerous and you risk being seen! You will have a little more than 24 hours to respond to this prompt before the next one, so act fast! This RP is still open to new posters (and will stay open for people to join!) but if you miss a prompt, your character will automatically be sorted into the lowest rolling tier and you will be expected to respond as if you rolled between a 1-3! There is no need to tally points; this is not a race! You simply need to respond to the prompts as they are posted. You can stick with a group; the dice rolls will only affect the severity at which your character is affected by prompts and will not ever force you to separate from your party.
