As the rays of the sun edged into the sky, the last streams of rain ran their ways from the clouds and ceased as twilight died. Puddles where plentiful and the sky still partly gloomy despite the impressive amount of moisture that had been unleashed upon Barton. Sailor Dark Vortex walked quietly, she had observed the surprisingly still night of Barton Town.

She lightly touched her head again. "Hmm", she thought herself. "Those doppels are still out there." There was barely light so she didn't expect much activity. Which was good, because her business needed to be one of surprise for the receiving party. Surely the doppels would slow down her pursers if they caught wind, but no need to give them an easy target.

"Where is she? I can't give her long." She had decided to give a truce to the mysterious mist figure from before. After all, they were sizing the other up a bit, perhaps emotions were a tad high. She shook her head in amusement, I thought that was something only boys did.

She stared at the large building, fully aware of it's important purpose in Barton and hoped it's daily occupants would arrive soon as she strolled her way in. It was an easy leap onto the important looking statue inside, and she sat, waiting to loom over those who would enter.

The Place: A large wooden gazebo in the gardens of the Barton Manor

          The Time: Sunrise Day 3

Aylin rose with the sun. She didn't care who else would be awake in the manor at the ungodly hour of the morning but Aylin was always up with the morning sun. As was ritual in her life since spending time with the brothers and sisters of the Abbey on Porta Denia, Aylin craved, and was actually addicted to, her morning meditation. However, the distinct lack of her homemade altar to Orrin's memory had Aylin looking for a suitable replacement to the meditation space in her little cottage. The large whitewashed wooden gazebo in the back gardens of the manor that was normally used for outdoor tea service was the perfect place for Aylin to conduct her morning ritual. It was for this reason that Aylin would, under normal circumstances, leave the manor and head for home no matter what time of night was on the clock.

With the duplicates on the other side of the manor walls Aylin and the others had been forced to remain at the manor overnight. And while Chef, Alice, Kagura, Cree, and Cel were more than used to spending nights in the manor the others weren't. The home cooked comfort food and Caelen's attention to their overall comfort had helped to ease the girls' worries somewhat. However, Kai's mouth and lack of thinking before talking had nearly undone that work, which had Aylin giving him a dead tired brief and to the point talking to from their bed. Aylin was still very much on edge and still very much giving herself a mental lashing, and Kai some hard looks, when she woke that morning over what had happened the day before, both in the square and in the manor. Tensions among some were still very high and if she was going to help turn them into the team she knew they could be they needed to be eased. It was for that reason she needed her morning meditation far more than most mornings. And, after a quick rinse to freshen up for the day Aylin used a little magic to conjure up the ritual linen dress and armor from her clan's marriage ceremony that she had begun wearing on a more consistent basis.

Seated upon her knees with her eyes closed on the floor of the gazebo Aylin took in a long deep calming breath as she focused her inner energy outward. To her left, Kai mirrored her meditative state as he too, with eyes closed, let out deep calming breaths. Both pixie and feline were in desperate need of the healing power of a good meditative session. With her hands out at her sides, Aylin began reciting a prayer to the patron goddess of the planet to give her strength in the coming war. It was a simple prayer in the standard human language of Gaia the brothers and sisters of the Abbey had said human soldiers often used before going into battle. It was a prayer used heavily during times of war.

"May the mother goddess keeper of us all give me the strength to do right in battle, may her light guide me down the path of truth and virtue, and may she protect us all as we protect others in her name during times of peace and war," Aylin prayed keeping her eyes closed.

War, it was such a simple three letter word and yet it was one Aylin wished was only spoken among words of past tense in a historical nature. Aylin was trained to handle the physical and emotional stress of war as she was certain Caelen was as well. However, Prim and the other girls she had met the day before and some members of the BFAA were not. While it was true the Bartobs had extraordinary talents, Aylin was uncertain if they were battle tested in war. Preparing two groups to fight not only whatever it was that lurked under the very foundations of Barton itself but the evils outside the walls of the town was going to be no easy task. Aylin knew the Bartobs were more than capable of training for the upcoming battle, however, the innocent teenage girls, some no older than Jen, were just not ready.

"Orrin," Aylin began softly, eyes open, as she fingered the rose gold ring inlaid with a white jade rose he had given her on their Joining Day, "I don't know if I can prepare such innocent girls for war. They shouldn't have to go through all of this. They're just babies like Jen."

"And yet one, maybe two of them, has the power to turn into a magical warrior like you even if they all carry that same magic. Whether they should be going through this or not, they were destined for that power like you were destined for that broach," Kai cut in from her left as he opened his eyes.

"Is it right that we should be taking their innocence away from them by turning them into soldiers for war?"

"Those things on the other side of the walls surrounding these grounds have more than seen to that by now. The moment they came into contact with them those girls ceased to be innocent. Like it or not, they need to be taught how to defend themselves against those duplicates. Besides, a little basic self defense knowledge is never a bad thing," Kai reasoned with Aylin, his advanced years and experience showing through.

Letting out a deep sigh Aylin resigned herself to the fact that Kai was right. The girls were now a part of the battle between light and dark whether they planned to be or not. "I guess all we can do now is make sure these girls have the knowledge to keep themselves alive in this war."

Well, not really just finding a roof to sleep under and maybe get some food. Leif said pausing for a moment as he looked skywards before glowing again and gently wrapping his wings in to a large dome around Lorelei before speaking his mind in its entirety . You see , im not from the area or even the gambino isle. ive traveled for the better part of two months now from a land where its almost always winter and life is giving but hard. i know not what has driven me south but, Barton it seems to need help, Perhaps it too needs help as my home has through out the ages given to us by sagely spirits, warriors and wise-men and women. if you do not mind getting a bit damp i can fly you back in to town or some place warm if you'd like looking down with a slightly pink face leif gave her hand a gentle squeeze before letting go of it and giving the young woman time to think.

in truth Leif had no idea where he would sleep in the coming days but it would take just a few moments to gather his things if he was indeed taken up on the offer to give a bit of ride in the stormy weather. the cold was kind of home like but sleep sounded so tempting, just the release of worry and relaxation for finally having come to the end of an odyssey. Oscar quietly looked around before shifting back under a few wood-chips for the night and sleeping soundly.

August was delving into the last half of the year. The sun rose a bit later than it had at full summer. At 5:30 AM, the sun had not yet crept into the sky as Caelen roused himself from his brooding thoughts. With a sigh, he dressed in a clean set of clothing for the day, filched his shampoo and bath towel from his adjoining bathroom, and headed downstairs.

The halls echoed hollowly with each step as the butler made his way to the first floor, down the grand staircase, and into the kitchen. He stopped briefly upon entering to see that the dinner mess from the previous night had been completely cleared away. Not a trace was left behind. Touched, Caelen realized that Kagura had probably taken care of the duties Caelen should have performed. He hoped she had gotten some aid in the task.

He drew his attention away from the clear table and headed over to the kitchen sink. The towel and shampoo he set down on the counter next to the sink. Then Caelen proceeded to remove his smart vest and crisp white shirt, placing them over the back of a nearby chair. He then turned on the hot water at the sink, adding in some cold to make it warm instead of scalding hot. Pulling the sprayer attachment up from the sink, Cae leaned his head over the sink to dampen his hair down before using the shampoo he had brought with him. Satisfied he had created enough bubbles, he used the sprayer again to rinse his hair. Finished, he put the sprayer back, turned off the faucet, and started to towel-dry his hair.

Alice could laugh at herself. It wasn't like her to allow herself to look weak in front of others because not even the rest of the BFAA members have seen her in such a state. If anything was to be blamed, it was the fact that she could go on sleeping without a known cause, or maybe the stress she always felt, or maybe... The list went on. Her eyebrows scrunched as Shawn pulled her into a hug once more, and she felt embarrassed for making him do those. Alice looked up to her friend and didn't say a word as she watched him go back to the kitchen to help Kagura clean up. A few seconds passed before she followed, giving Kagura the hug they haven't shared since she woke up before helping to clean the dishes. She didn't notice the rest of the younger looking girls leave.

After she was done with her part, Alice glanced at the other two before quietly slipping out of the kitchen without a good night. She walked towards an exit out of the manor, wanting to be alone and to think about the current events she had heard about inside the kitchen. Figuring that the small spot she always inhabited, a small garden with a well located just above the gazebo near the pool, would be empty and relatively untouched other than the manor's owners, Alice directed her path towards the west side of the building and followed the rock pathway. As she neared her destination, the greenery around her soon captivated her sight, providing a little relaxation to the stress she was being buried under. The climbing vines on the old walls was her doing due to her insistence of putting something that would at least cover the water stains that seeped up a bit of mud over time. The voice inside her head decided to speak up, berating Alice for her inattention earlier ago. It proceeded to list out the many things she needed to know from before she woke up from the coma. Alice sat down on the low stone railing, pulling her legs close to her chest as she watched the night sky slowly clear the rain clouds. The voice provided her information about the girl with blonde hair and green eyes and the girl with apricot-coloured hair, but the other one with dark hair was someone whom they haven't met before. Suddenly, Alice understood why the two girls seemed familiar. The voice in her head lit up and then all she could hear was a soothing melody that could lull her to sleep.

Except, Alice sat there now watching the sun rise. The melody had been pleasant to hear, but four months of being in a sleep tended to keep her awake for a night and the next will most likely cause her to collapse. My, my, keep being an oddity, why don't you Alice? The deep voice caused her to snap out of her musings. It was as sudden as it came from the memory; his voice and how much she truly missed him. A weight inside one of the pockets of her sweater made itself known, and Alice pulled it out to reveal a small device. Wondering why she hasn't found bothered finding it beforehand, she pushed the button and a small blue screen hovered in front of her, showing the image of the person she wanted to hear from. Blond hair and striking blue eyes that could rival the deepest of oceans, the brunette closed her eyes and buried her face in the space between her legs and chest. We'll see each other soon. The image now featured a small orbiting circle on the bottom right hand of the screen, and then it went live within a second. Alice glanced up to see her fiancée, who looked worn out and still managed to maintain his features. His voice resounded in her ears, as the device only allowed noises to be heard by the person who held it, and then she allowed a few tears to drop. Their conversation went well and ended with the same words they've always said to each other since childhood. The phrase just naturally stuck with them and both had never bothered to change it, knowing that its meaning was something they could both hold onto, as a hope. Because while the distance between them was far, the bond never wavered.

I know we will.

Alice finally stood up wanting to brew tea, but stopped as she heard a familiar voice from below her. She looked over the stone-stacked railing and only saw a pair of wings and a tail disappearing below the gazebo's roof. Interesting, she thought. Tea time could wait. Alice turned to the windy stone stairs that led to the gazebo's level, certain that the two inside the gazebo had not seen her. As she slowly approached the back of the gazebo, their conversation peaked her interest even more. So that's one of the things it was about, Alice mentally said. Those girls from last night.. they had more to them than what she had initially thought. One question down, a dozen more to go. But, something about what Aylin had said bothered her; "taking their innocence away"? Because of a war? She narrowed her eyes and sat down on the gazebo's wooden railing, not surprised that the the pixie had noticed her presence. She decided to speak up, staring at Aylin's current dress quite intently and trying to figure out why she was dressed like that instead of her usual wardrobe. An eyebrow rose in confusion because Aylin never really leaves anything in the manor. She shook her head and ignored that for later.

I don't really think it's taking away their innocence, Aylin, she said with an unreadable tone of voice, but don't you think a person can battle and still be innocent? Alice hoped that Aylin knew that she would try to help the girls to the best of her ability, but the voice spoke up inside her head once again in reminder that her limited time awake would spoil it. Despite not knowing the girls from last night, Alice knew that innocence was something that could be kept even in the most desperate times of trouble. It wasn't because of her own experience, but rather because of her own fiancée.

Somewhere in Durem, a blond-haired man rose from his seat, putting on a navy blue coat before walking down the velvet carpets of the mansion belonging to a family-- her family, soon to be their family-- with a name famous to a certain race that most of the Gaian population has never heard of.

A/N: EDITED AGAIN BECAUSE THERE WERE TOO MANY GRAMMAR ERRORS EW // Edited, but Alice's spot was actually a garden used to grow vegetables and all that sort and I'm too lazy to edit its location. Please do know that the manor is set on top of multiple ground levels which means that the gazebo she went to was the lowest and the garden she stayed at was the second level (or the main level for the manor). Maybe I'll sketch it out sometime. I based it off of that picture Chibi showed in the OOC thread.

Lorelei was very intrigued by Leif's story; that he'd come from a place unfamiliar to her. His town was full 'sagely spirits, warriors, and wise-men and women.' She hoped she could visit his home one day too. Lorelei smiled to Leif, and took a moment to think about the questions she'd been given. "I don't really mind at all, seeing as I can't really go home now, and wouldn't want to leave you anyway." They had spent so long talking that the sun was now coming up, and the rain had stopped. "I suppose we could find a place to stay. The sun is coming up." While Lorelei had felt somewhat tired, she kept herself awake; the adventure of flight excited her. She wanted to know more about Leif, but also find out more about the others.

------------

Prim stirred early even though she had gone to bed late. She was still holding the kiki kitty plush that Cree had given her. It was true, the plush did help her sleep through the night. She smiled to herself thinking about Cree and all of those cute kittens. She was happy that she had gotten a hug and that everyone she had met here were kind. "This place really does have some interesting, but nice people." She thought. She really thought she could be friends with all of them. It's all Prim ever really wanted, friends she could enjoy things with and have silly conversations with. Unfortunately, the first friend she had made had moved away. Prim wouldn't forget Yume though, and in time they'd see each other again. After reminiscing, Prim took a long stretch and headed down to the kitchen.

As she approached the kitchen, Prim heard the sound of the running water. She wondered who'd be awake at this hour. Immediately she thought about the left over dishes, but those would have been taken care of last night, she thought. Prim shrugged with the kiki latched under her arm. She just wanted to get some water and head back to sleep a few hours more. She stepped in after the water had gone off. To much surprise, she saw a shirtless Cae, drying his hair near the sink. Prim let out an audible squeal, and immediately became flustered. She used the kiki to shield her eyes. Her face by this point was beet red. Prim flailed about, frantically. "C-Caelen...put your shirt back on!"Prim peeked through the kiki to grab the butler's shirts from the chair and tossed them at him. She was embarrassed and had never seen a male with his shirt off before.

The conversation between feline and pixie had been broken the moment the soft sounds of a familiar voice and the pull of an equally familiar aura had gained the pair's attention. Without even looking up from her spot on the wooden floor of the whitewashed gazebo within viewing distance of the large stone back patio and modern styled pool with it's cascading waterfall and rather large spa tub, Aylin knew the soft green eyes of Alice had been watching her. With her energy entwined and flowing with that of Gaia itself, Aylin could feel one's presence before they arrived at her present location. It was a technique she had learned during the over four months she had spent up on Porta Denia that utilized her own ability to feel and detect varying types of magic coming from someone.

"I was wondering when you would finally come talk to me Alice. It seems we're not the only ones awake this early. But he shall have to wait. You pose a very valid question," Aylin remarked as she closed her eyes briefly to think.

Kai had said the girls were no longer innocent the moment the duplicates had come into contact with them and it was something Aylin was willing to accept. She was willing to go along with his thinking in order to feel right about training the girls to defend themselves. However, there was Alice putting new doubts within the pixie's mind as she mentioned the possibility of the girls remaining innocent and still being able to battle with her question to the pair's conversation. Letting out a calming breath, Aylin opened her eyes and stood to face Alice within the gazebo as Kai quickly took his place upon her shoulders. The simple act of the cat who was now able to use words instead of actions to voice his needs, wants, and thoughts had an odd affect upon the pixie. Aylin had a feeling of calm and completion about herself, something she had not felt for eight years.

Eyes that were vacant and frightened the night before radiated with a renewed calm and inner peace even if their owner had questions and doubts about the task laid out before her. The deep meditation, reflection, and prayers were more than just a way for Aylin to think they were a way to transform her mental and emotional state from one that was unpredictable and all over the place into one that was level, calm, and, as the brothers and sisters of the Abbey had said, one that was in tune with the wider world around her. It was this transformation that allowed Aylin to better feel the lines of magic coming from a living creature. Aylin could feel the magic that danced around Alice and made her oh so very special now as she could the magic that radiated from in, around, and under the very manor itself.

Alice had indeed posed a very valid question, one that needed an answer from the pixie. The night before the answer would have been a very selfish one. The night before Aylin would have told Alice she wanted to keep them little girls forever and that little girls don't fight but she knew they were not little girls nor would they remain young forever and that eventually they would need to learn the tools it took to survive on Gaia. In a way, Aylin had to admit both Alice and Kai were right.

"Yes, I do believe it is possible for that," Aylin remarked sounding less childlike as she reached up to caress Kai's head with her hand causing the feline to give into his catlike instincts and purr, "just as I believe Kai has a point as well. While they are still innocent, they are no longer sheltered from the evils of this world. The creatures on the other side of the manor walls are attracted to our unique type of magic. It's a very pure and strong type of magic rooted in the light, so much so that there are times when I fear I will lose my own control over it and accidentally destroy a portion of a town again. I don't want those girls: Prim, Terra, Seren, and even the one named Lunette to feel that way about their own abilities if they are all touched by the ancient magic that protects this planet. And while I never want anyone to experience or be trained for war, as I have been, they still need to know how to protect themselves. For as the brothers and sisters, the ones who call themselves the Children of Gaia, have taught me, inner peace and inner strength can come from learning to use the fighting arts in defense and protection of the weak and innocent."

From his place upon her shoulders Kai gave Aylin a brief nuzzle with his cheek to let the pixie know he was proud of the way she was handling the situation. He knew she still had concerns but it was nearly a complete one eighty from how she reacted to seeing Seren and at the same time she had proven him a little in the wrong with his thinking but still very willing to take his council. "I guess I'm a bit wrong here. Maybe those things didn't take away their innocence after all," Kai admitted.

Unconsciously letting out an instinctual calm breath as Kai spoke Aylin let a warm calm smile come across her face as she addressed one final concern still bothering her from her interactions with Alice and Chef before heading to bed. "And Alice, I'm so very sorry I caused you any concern over my behavior and the way I spoke to you both last night. It was wrong of me to burden Chef with so much at once before he was ready. I will need to have a better talk with him in order to ease his concerns when he is fully awake this morning," Aylin apologized.

One minute Caelen had the towel obscuring his eyes in an attempt to dry his sopping hair, then next minute there was a girlish shriek followed by his vest and shirt flying at his face. He pulled the tangled mess of clothing off his head and saw Prim standing next to the table, shyly peeking out at him from behind one of Cree's cat plushies. The poor girl was just about beet-red. Cae gave a nervous chuckled as he spoke while hastily pulling on his shirt.

Ahem, I uh, I'm sorry if I've made this an awkward situation for you. The general rule in society is that it is perfectly acceptable for a male to be seen without certain attire. After all, they do so at swimming venues. However, I should keep in mind that you are very young and still of a tender innocence. I beg your pardon for appearing in an unacceptable manner, Miss Prim. I will try to keep your delicate sensibilities in mind in the future.

Caelen bowed to Prim, feeling quite bad for the poor girl. He wondered just how much of a sheltered life she had led if she had never even seen a man with his shirt off. In a fleeting moment of self doubt, he wondered if she had found him unattractive.

Oh, don't be an idiot, Caelen. It has nothing to do with a lack of appeal. More like too much and at the wrong time. *sigh* Will I never be rid of this effect I seem to perpetuate where the fairer gender is concerned? he bemoaned inwardly.

"Sky..." Charm sighed when she awoke, her mind not entirely gone from the dream. She shook herself the rest of the way awake. Now was not the time to dwell upon that. While the manor was much quieter in the morning, soon it would be filled with life as the morning hour had arrived. Little Yin still slept, however, and Charm was slightly concerned.

"Yin, yin, why don't you wake up for a little while?" She said to the little creature. He opened his eyes, looked at Charm annoyed, and went back to sleep. "Well if you're happy sleeping then...but it's breakfast time. Maybe you'll eat, at least." She placed Yin atop her head and flew away from her pillow.

Charm decided to go to the kitchen, since she saw everyone gathered there the night before. She bet to herself that if she made some pancakes appear the persons who she wanted to talk to when she heard a shriek come from said kitchen. Prim? Oh no, what's wrong?

Upon entering the room with some haste, she saw Caelen mid-bow and Prim hiding behind a plush cat. Having lived in school co-ed dorms before, Charm figured out in a snap what had happened, and squashing the laugh she felt, flew over to Prim to shield her eyes and started her verbal assault. "What on earth possessed you to wash your hair at the kitchen sink." Her voice raised to a scolding, which didn't sound like mocking but entirely was. "Don't you know the door doesn't have a lock and you're entertaining precious young ladies who are not keen upon what the other gender looks like so undressed?" Charm used her tail to turn Prim around. "Why you're a terrible host, dear sir, I must ask you to think more appropriately in the future! Now kindly dry your hair and button up your shirt because I'm going to make pancakes and I don't need you frightening the other poor guests of the house."

Then Charm flew over to Caelen, patted him on the head much like the night before. "At least you have your pants on." She murmured quietly. This place is a heck of a lot nicer than school dorms, my friend." Then she laughed uncontrollably as she hovered over to the pantry to find milk, eggs, flour, and syrup. "Prim will you help me find things for breakfast? I want to make a feast for us all!"

Prim's obvious embarrassment over seeing Cae shirtless was bad enough, but then the little angel imp fluttered in to make the butler feel all the more awkward and embarrassed. However, the imp's gentle pat on Cae's head and whispered words made her real feelings on the matter clear.

She was just teasing me he thought with a sigh.

The imp's laughter seconds later confirmed his thoughts.

Caelen facepalmed at the imp's shameless joking and said Oh, heaven help me! before buttoning up his shirt proper and putting on his vest.

Giving Prim an apologetic smile, Caelen turned his attention to lending the imp a hand at breakfast preparations.

Waking up Seren blinked confusedly, when she remembered that she was not at home, and instead inside a room at the Barton Manor. Getting up she grabbed some clothes left out for her and dressed, fixing her hair in the mirror she noted, that who ever had brought the clothes had great tastes, it was a nice brown combo that could pass as uniform at school. Not sure what to do with herself as no one had answered the phone at home last night she took too wandering the halls of the manor.

“At dawn, just as the sun breaches the horizon with its golden rays, that is when you must begin,” High Priest Aerenian instructed a wide-eyed, younger Celestine.

“But why? Why do we do this right at first light?” the young crystalmancer-in-training queried of her teacher.

The High Priest was a gentle and benevolent soul, very fond of his young pupil. Aerenian lightly ruffled Celestine’s hair as he answered her question.

“We do this because we draw strength from the sun as it rises in the sky. The closer it comes to its zenith, the greater the flow of light energy will be within us. We store up this energy so that as the sun wanes in the sky and gives way to night, we will have energy reserves readily available. ”

Celestine tilted her head a fraction, considering what her teacher had said.

“It makes sense. As the sun goes down its energy flow decreases because the moon’s energy is increasing. We have to gather all we can so we won’t be sitting ducks in the hours when the darkness element is dominant,” Celestine concluded aloud.

High Priest Aerenian smiled with pride. Celestine had come far in the very short time since her arrival in Sun City. She was very youthful, and a tad naïve at that, but she was quickly learning what it meant to be not only a crystal mage, but a follower of the elemental ways. There was no doubt in the High Priest’s mind that this young slip of a girl would rise to great heights and become a person of exceptional importance and great wisdom. Storing that thought away, Aerenian kneeled on a cushion beside his apprentice.

“Shall we begin then?” he asked.

Both teacher and student kneeled side by side on a terrace of the Light Temple, breathing in the crisp, late fall air and speaking the mantra that was the heart and soul of K’taal.

Thoughts of her dear teacher brought a tender smile to Cel’s lips as she made her preparations for the daily Light Harvesting ritual. She had indeed come a very long way since her early days as a mere crystalmancy apprentice. Many things had come to pass in that time. The Shadowlord had been defeated and the seven kingdoms restored. The highest element, the soul, had been rediscovered, and Celestine had become the first Soul High Priestess in many thousands of years. All that aside, Cel always pressed forward with the attitude that learning never stopped. There was always more one could benefit from being taught. Though she was the high priestess for the most powerful and all-governing element in her world, Celestine was still learning about her duty as a spiritual intermediary between the people of K’taal and the high elementals. It was no small task to be a spiritual leader, especially for an entire aspect of a world that had been neglected, scorned, and forgotten, though never truly lost.

Reflecting on these thoughts as she worked, Cel opened the precious trunk of items she had brought with her from her home world. There were many items of great power and interest inside, but it was the Soul High Priestess crest and the six runed crystals that she brought forth from the trunk’s depths that morning, as she did every morning. Celestine walked over to the terrace doors in her bedroom and opened them wide, letting in the early morning air of predawn. That task completed, she proceeded to lay out the crystals from the trunk in a circle right in front of the open terrace doors. Each of the six crystals represented an element: carnelian for fire, turquoise for water, green jade for earth, a clear crystal resembling quartz that was known as windstone for air, a yellow citrine for light, and lastly a deep onyx with a blue tint for darkness. Each stone was placed so that opposites were directly across from each other, with the light stone at the top of the circle. Celestine then placed a simple purple cushion in the center of the crystal circle and stepped inside. The crest she had removed from the trunk, which she placed around her neck, echoed the crystal circle around her with one small difference. In the middle of the crest was a faceted amethyst, the stone representative of the soul element. This most sacred and precious of all priestly talismans was presented to Celestine on the day of her induction as the Soul High Priestess. It served as a powerful reminder of both her great power and the even greater responsibility that came in tandem with it.

Clearing her mind of all outside thoughts, Celestine kneeled on the purple cushion and steepled her fingertips together, creating a sort of tent with her hands. She brought her hands up to rest against her forehead in that position and closed her eyes. As the sun began to inch its way over the horizon’s edge, Celestine began the mantra of K’taal in the sacred elemental language known as Taale (pronounced tall-uh). Roughly translated in common, it reads:

In all things seek purity over depravity, justice over vice, patience over haste, mercy over ruthlessness, love over hatred. In service to others be always humble, willing, and steadfast that they may see the true path through your life. Let the sacred circle never be broken. This is the way of K’taal.

With each word of the mantra, the pure light energy from the sun flowed into every fiber of Celestine. It pulsed and throbbed with life, renewing her depleted reserves of energy and strength. The crystals around Celestine began to glow with an inner light, being charged with new brilliance as they responded to the influx of light energy in the room. This was what it was like for those who used light energy. It was akin to being filled with the very sun itself and set ablaze inside with pure, life-giving light. At the final word of the mantra, Cel let her hands slowly lower to her sides. She opened her eyes as the crystals surrounding her settled their brilliant light show. The sun had indeed been like a breath of new life for Cel, but it was not quite enough.

Hmm, it’s a little less energy than yesterday. Subtle, I know, but never the less it will be yet a fraction smaller tomorrow. I only wish I knew what is causing this drain. If I can’t find the source and stop it within the next month, I will either perish or be forced to return to K’taal until my friends have sorted out this mystery. I do not wish to leave them to carry one without me, but there is nothing I can do…for now.

A small sigh of sadness escaped Cel’s lips as she gathered up her crystals and returned them to their special box in her trunk. She removed the crest from around her neck as well, and placed it in the small silver chest with purple velvet lining that was made especially for it. Her fingers briefly played across the gemmed crest as she thought of all the people she had left behind on K’taal when the High Elementals had opened the portal this new world called Gaia and she had gone through as they instructed. She had dear friends and family back home, but her newfound friends in Gaia were just as dear to her heart.

Please, Sacred Ones, hear me and protect the people of this world from the evil that would try to ensnare and destroy it. Celestine said in silent mental prayer to the High Elementals.

As she closed her terrace door and exited her room, Cel hoped that her prayer would span the vast distance between Gaia and K’taal to reach the Sacred Ones.

Relief flooded in her body like a tidal wave at the sight of her friend looking much better than last night. From what she saw, Aylin had most likely meditated and managed to gather a great amount of calmness. As she sat there on the gazebo's wooden railing still staring at the offending pink blouse the pixie wore, Alice didn't say a word as she listened to the elder as she spoke. Her gaze lifted up to where she could focus at Aylin's rose pink eyes with the unreadable expression still on her face. The voice inside her rang once and a specific date flashed in her mind. Her nose twitched at the intermittent announcements it likes to force on her.

Listening to Aylin speak about her want for those girls to be as free from burden as much as possible, Alice lowered her eyes and then glanced at the sun peeking from the stretch of the horizon. Then let them understand that, Aylin, Alice whispered, suddenly feeling drowsy. What happened in your past can only happen when you or another chooses it to happen, but that is where guidance comes in. I agree with the idea of training, but another type of training needs to be taught to the girls who fear the reality of conflict. I know you are afraid for these girls Aylin, but it is not our jobs to blind them, she said while keeping her gaze at the orange-tinted sky. It's our job to strengthen them. The battle going on in Gaia is most likely a task that none of these young girls would be involved in. Alice felt a deep sense that there was something more, a trial that they would all have to go against. Understandably, Aylin's worry was genuine.

Acidic green eyes turned to focus on Kai. Alice wanted to know answers to her seemingly infinite questions, but time was never good to her. There are so many things that people do not understand. Almost everything is a choice. Even fear and control themselves. Alice wanted to say those words, but hesitated. Her part in this situation was something that will end in a short period of time. It wasn't her time, but hers. Instead, Alice stood up to meet the cat's eyes and wanted to sit down once again because she had inadvertently forgotten that the pixie was still shorter. Part of her wanted to chuckle at the fact that both of them were so hilariously short and another part of her just wanted to bash her own face on the wooden column of the gazebo. Alice shook her head and slowly raised her hand to stroke the back of the grey cat's head. It's not their innocence that we need to worry about Kai, she said with a slightly hoarse voice, but their ability to conduct the powers they have yet to use. She let out a quick tiny smile at the cat's quiet purr and turned to Aylin. Chef is most likely going to wake up at an ungodly hour near noon but I'll try to wake him up for you, Alice said, letting the fact that Shawn had laughed at her embarrassment in the kitchen slip. She knew her closest friend was even more stressed than she was and her usual predictions about his state were mostly correct.

There wasn't answer when Aylin apologised for her behaviour from last night, but she also knew that the pixie knew that it doesn't take much for her to forgive and that she rarely spoke when it concerned the things that would make her look weak. The voice in her head sent a short piercing sound that made Alice scrunch her eyebrows together and feel slightly dizzy. Thank goodness that she was already leaning on to the wooden plank behind her. I know, she told the voice in guilty irritation, I'm working on the pride. Alice sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. She didn't want to go back to sleep because she still needed to explain about her sporadic comas to Shawn. But whether she wants to or not, there will be nothing that could be done against the force that her group of friends are unknown to. A sincere nod was probably all that Alice needed to show to make Aylin know that all was and has been well between the two of them and in behalf of Shawn as well.

Prim's face still was red. She was somewhat relieved by Charm's quick action. It wasn't that Cae wasn't attractive, she had just never seen anyone of the opposite gender undress before. Prim quickly went to help the imp pick out some pancake mix. "What kind of feast are we talking? I can make eggs, toast, and special bentos that my mom taught me to make." Prim handed over the pancake mix, and pulled out more ingredients.
