[Day 2 Prompts]

Prompt 1:

Deacon had gone to the designated area out behind the tent, although a little ways off from the main throng of volunteers. He recognized several of them from the day before, at the banquet, and it would probably be best to keep out of their way. Especially if any of those who had become less desirable decided to participate in irritating shenanigans here as well. He grunted softly to himself, trying not to dwell on just how angry he'd been at some of the attendants.

Turning his full attention to the older, apron-clad volunteer, Deacon listened to the instructions given for their first task in the assessments. He was considerably amused by the idea of pairing up to dance with some random lovely lady, even if he wasn't trying for that in particular as far as the parade went. Never hurt to have a bit of fun, right? When the direction was given, and others paired up nearby, Deacon casually peered about the small crowd that had probably just intended to watch rather than participate.

He approached a young woman that he recognized; one he'd spoken to in passing on several occasions when he brought his family's goods into town. Offering his hand and a pleasant - of not playful - smile to her, the woman accepted and allowed Deacon to guide her to a spot of ground with room enough for them to move without bumping into anyone.

And... It appeared that he actually knew what he was doing, and fortunately so did his chosen partner. They each followed the others' lead and surprisingly didn't miss a step. Deacon was inwardly thankful, because he didn't really want to have his toes stepped on.

Once the music died down, Deacon gently released the young woman back to her own company of friends, pleased with himself to see the tinge of red to her cheeks. Yep. He still had it.

Prompt 2:

Deacon actually barked a laugh at this one. It was going to be simple enough. Working with his father from a young age with the various fruiting plants and trees, he'd seen more than his fair share of heavy bags and baskets.

Drag the bags? He didn't see much sense in that. Going against the specific instruction of doing just that, once the volunteers went about selecting which bags they wanted to drag, Deacon just stepped up to the pile and gave one a mighty tug. Stooping down, he heaved the bag up onto a shoulder, straightened with relative ease, and walked the damn thing across the lawn. At least he seemed to take the declaration of no competition to heart, seeing as he didn't try to rush there.

Prompt 3:

Dusting his hands on his pants as he walked back toward the doorstep, Deacon shrugged and rolled his shoulders to ease any forthcoming cramping in the one that had been holding the dirt's weight. After given the go-ahead, he stopped first at the water barrels to gulp down a couple of glasses worth. Then, he headed back around front to see if he made the cut for anything in particular.

Hope I did all of this right. XD Thanks for letting late RPers make up for it!

Cyril looked as the older women who had been working on the cart this whole time asked a simple request from him. He felt really bad about not being able to help so he agreed. "Of course mam! I got this." He said the first part respectfully and the second part smugly. He looked at the cart first. "Design, check". He felt the cart and boarded it. "Sturdyness, check.' He gave the cart a test run. "Mobility, check." he said as the cart seemed to run very smoothly.

He hopped out of the cart and came back to the lady. "Everything seems A- OK for the parade!" he said to the hard-working lady.

Bidding goodbye to Cyril with a polite nod of his head, the boy waited until Mykanos had approached before gesturing towards him with a hand. "Mykanos, Shun. Shun, Mykanos." There, introductions done--Elliot gave himself a mental pat on the back. "Mykanos and I are on security duty...which really means that there isn't a ton for us to do during this 'practice' session."

Which was also why they were both here, bothering Shun. At least, that was why Elliot was here--he just just inevitably pulled his new acquaintance along for the ride.

Letting a short laugh leave his lips, Elliot lift his brows. "Are you speaking from experience? Former run-ins? Or just from what you've heard? Not that you have to answer either way, really." He'd be lying if he said he wasn't curious about Shun's history, but it wasn't like he desperately needed to know.

Looking to Mykanos then, he tilted his head slightly. "How about you? What are your views on the military?" ...Besides the fact that the vast majority are slackers, not that he of all people could say anything about that.

The man on the horse was actually intimidating now that he wasn't playing the pompous idiot. Axel cast a quick glance at Preacher, who still looked ready to fight but at least was no longer springing at his throat. Except now Preacher was swaying, obviously exhausted. Had Axel hurt him that badly, or had Preacher just worn himself out jumping around attacking him like a lunatic?

As much as he loathed Preacher, Preacher was, in a weird way, closer to him than the absurd parade field marshal. Preacher was from Shiganshina, not some far-off mysterious land of plenty. And Saga was a creep, Axel was quite sure of it, a card-carrying creepy creepster that had already made some creepy moves on Preacher and clearly could not be trusted.

He made his decision and stepped forward, towards the man on the horse.

"I did. I started it." Axel kept his eyes averted from Preacher, staring straight ahead at Saga. It was difficult to look at the boy without going red after that humiliating incident. "I picked a fight with him. It's my fault." He bowed his head to Preacher, going even redder as he did so. It made him tense up. He didn't like exposing his neck to Preacher, who was a rabid dog of a person if ever there was one. "I apologize."

Okay, so there were at least a half a dozen witnesses who had seen Preacher attack him when his back was turned like a wild animal, but would they step in? Axel doubted it.

Zin sighed with relief that Lenore wasn't hurt any more than the cut on her lip. That didn't look good, though. Back at the scene of the fight, she had felt only concern-- both for her friend and for the people fighting-- but now she was beginning to feel a little angry. Whoever that guy had been-- the one that had hit Lenore-- he was completely out of line. She hoped that he would be punished. She was unaccustomed to such bitter feelings and quickly turned her mind away from it, instead concentrating on Lenore's well-being.

"Does it hurt?" she asked, a bit fearfully.

"Thank you dear." She looked on gratefully as he was quick to make his bold assertion he had this handled. Marissa inclined her head to him, not minding she'd had to work hard for a bit really too much. "I'm Marissa, Alec's mom. You are..?" She extended her hand in greeting to the boy, reaching over to give the ox a little pat once it was settled down and chomping away at feed like it had never eaten before.

"Good then if everything is ready, I'll let the coordinator know."

With that the ox's were done and cared for. Anything else would be fine tuning, feeding, or making final small preparations. It was fine the new boy hadn't been there, he had made up for it with his smug, but genuine kindness.

"He... passed?" The girl frowned forlornly. "I-I'm sorry for his passing... H-How?" She let the question sit before grimacing. "I-I mean, you don't... have to tell me! I mean... If it is something personal or... y'know... bad..."

Shakuntala cocked her head again like a bird. She didn't quite get what Alec was asking for and followed his motion a few times with only silence to her lips. When it finally did register, her mouth drew to a small O and she nodded her head.

"It reads, "Fl-ash,"" she told the male, pronouncing it carefully. His reaction caused her to blink, but she didn't press the matter further. She had already stepped over the line once already.

Day 2

Lloren recognized one of the guys with incredible strength, hauling a bag the size of a person over their shoulders. She couldn't even imagine taking a step while under that crushing weight. Someday she hoped to be buff enough for that. She began to look down the list.

"Deacon, Deacon... Deacon Fields? Wait no, the other Deacon. Here's your verdict: You made the cut for everything! THe ox-carts look full at the moment, however. Would you like to help drag the decorated barges, participate in the song and dance, or be part of the costume troupe?"

Cyril listened as the lady introduced herself as Alec's mother. He had a surprised expression followed by a small smirk. "Heh I should've known... the red hair." he thought to himself. He shook Marissa's hand. "I'm Cyril, your son is a good friend of mine." He told her. "Everything should be ready and and running smoothly." he said in response to her saying she'll tell the coordinator. Cyril found the nearest wall and rested his back on it with his arms in a crossed fashion looking down at the ground as if he was in deep thought. Although he wasn't he was sure good at acting like he was.

Rikki puffed out his cheeks at the choices. But, the decision was made for him as he saw Danny flitting off to where the rest of the ox cart volunteers were.

"Ox carts it is."

It was because they were friends. Clearly.

"A little." She admitted. Looking up at Zin, it was her turn to be slightly worried. "Are you alright...?" She had mostly calmed down, and now focused entirely on whether or not her friend had been hurt by either of the boys.

"I'm fine; they didn't hurt me," Zin said. The smack to her hand had hurt at the time, but there wasn't even a bruise now. "I'm sorry that they got you... I can't believe that they were fighting at a time like this!" She huffed like a mother hen. "The parade is tomorrow! How are we supposed to show off how unified Shiganshina is if we can't even get along?!"

She shook her head and sighed. "Oh well... I'm sure things will work out just fine." Zin dared to smile once more; nothing could keep her spirits down for long. "That was really brave of you to help me back there," she said warmly. "But unless you join the military, you should probably leave the fighting to me!" She laughed as if she had said something funny.

UR A SAINT AXEL also good night!

By the way the others were looking, it was unlikely that Preacher had any justification. Her hostile reaction was not any less incriminating. She looked ready to start another fight at moment's notice... which made Saga grimace. Is this what it feels like when your kid got into a fight with someone elses?

"The armband is not for show," he said, making it clear that she risked losing it depending on the explanation- but rather than severe, he sounded defeated. He turned away from her. "I'm calling for eyewitness-" he began to announce, but then was interrupted by the navy-haired girl's victim. What he admitted to shocked him.

"Axel Halle, is what you say the truth?" he asked, stepping down from his black stallion in one sliding motion. He couldn't hide the hope from entering his voice as he waited to meet this man's eyes when he rose from his bow of apology. If indeed the young adult had infuriated Preacher to the point of reaching blows, maybe he ought to be angry at him. But no, he was grateful more than anything that he would admit to his error and take the blame, sparing Saga some trying matters.

[Day 2]

Deacon felt mighty proud of himself to hear that he'd done so well. "Nice," he stated, grinning. The ox-carts being full was fine by him; he could only imagine that someone would be tasked to cleaning up after the beasts and he certainly didn't want to be the one.

The first thing thereafter that Lloren mentioned gained response. "Yeah-" Only she continued. He cleared his throat, feeling awkward perhaps. As fun as the dancing would be, it was going to be quite a large audience... Silly costumes were just a flat out no from him. "Helping to pull the barges will be just fine, thank you." He said, politely.

[Day 3]

Oh God, he was so late and his back was killing him.

Deacon had come to regret that act of strength the day before, but he'd be able to man up and still do the job he'd been given. He'd made a mental note to himself to properly assess the weight of something before carrying it so far again. The aches he was suffering today weren't worth it. It wasn't like he could laze around and not work in the following days, either.

Once he finally arrived to help with the preparations, he imagined that nearly everything was probably finished by now. He felt like s**t that he hadn't been there, but better late than never... Right?

He sought out volunteers near the barges, clearly unsure of just what he was supposed to be doing since he was so far behind them in showing up.

"Uh... Sorry for being so late. What can I help with?" He offered, awkwardly combing his fingers through his hair. He was a little out of breath... He had rushed to try and get there before dark.

"There was a fight? Damn..." I wanna fight too.... wait no, I mean, wow. What low-lives. "Glad you two didn't get it any worse than this," Lloren said, bringing them each a glass of water from behind the wooden counter.

"Here, clean your face with this." She said, handing the wet towel to Lenore. "And that's well put, uh, Zin.. right? Actually I know both your names now, but I don't think I've introduced myself yet! To even the playing field here, I'm Lloren. So, who was fighting? "
