She really couldn't help feeling a slight pang of sympathy for the not-so-little blue, in way. Bronzes were notorious for carrying an air of glory, dignity, importance... and the latter seemed to have little prestige about them from the get-ho, sans a hard-working nature, maybe. Still, she couldn't blame the people for paying rap attention to that sparkling dark mug either; he was putting on quite a show for them.

Whoever he'd just called to be his writer was certain to have his hands full-- of that, she was sure.

But... he had found his impressor quickly, and without any violence, which was never a bad thing. All that remained on the sands for now was that enormous clumsy blue, who didn't seem to be swaying toward males or females just yet. A boy, she figured, would probably be chosen out... All she hoped was no blood drawn for it (even accidentally).

Nothing felt particularly repetitive, but still, those thoughts kept bubbling up in the back of her mind. Was she supposed to feel like she was really participating in this, rather than simply playing spectator? It barely even felt real.

Firyal watched with some amazement as the beautiful bronze made his way into the girls. And though she was bemused by his presence among the female Candidates and quite certain he wasn't really there for any of them, she couldn't help envying the girl he had lain down beside. Though she had broken one of the many rules regarding Hatchings. Firyal recalled vaguely that people weren't supposed to touch hatchlings that weren't theirs until they'd Impressed or unless the dragonet initiated the contact. But then, there was hardly any danger that a bronze would get confused and choose a female rider. This Hatching wasn't going to get that interesting. Still, his metallic hide was an efficient distraction from the large blue. He was the most handsome bronze she had ever seen, and though she knew for a fact that outward appearance tended to have very little to do with inner substance she couldn't help hoping that he was every bit as wonderful as he seemed to be, and that his rider could appreciate him.

The man could hardly believe his eyes as he watched Impression after Impression--though he could only stare at the brilliant bronze that laid itself down by the feet of a... woman?

Shards, that better not be Canthry. He nearly broke his teeth at the thought. But he didn't have time to brood over that, his gaze now caught by the Blue still left on the sands. Who would he pick, he wondered?

She swayed from foot to foot, “Mmm… nice match there.” She mumbled of the green. The ugliness of jealousy was no good for the sands, coming from dragon or human, she thought. And it seemed that the little green had a better head on her shoulders than her rider. The larger eggs, well she just guessed that they housed male-only contents. So, she was getting a little comfortable with the notion that it was break time on the girl’s side. All she needed was a nice chair to recline in, a cool drink, and maybe a cute guy to fan her. Yeah, right. She had to stay with it…

The flirty bronze, now that was something new. Weiwin reached down to pet the handsome creature. When he crooned she looked around, just to be sure that this really was happening, then, continued to 'fuss' over him.

And then there was one dragonet on the sands. A pretty, striking blue, that made Kiera smile. Who will your lucky one be, little dragon? She wanted to say to the baby. She doubted herself lucky enough to be chosen, as all her luck before had been. She wanted so badly to be able to call one her own, to be happily picked by the majestic beast. She shivered at the thought. Who will make you happy, little one?

"Bacheen? Sorry about that! I'm not the best at names." Nasunda flashed the younger boy her best smile. He was certainly cute enough, but with a brother like Balin it was a wonder he wasn't grumpier. Balin was a total spoil sport sometimes. This little mini Balin, however, seemed to have some fun left in him, and willingly launched into a summary of the beginning of the hatching. She nodded along enthusiastically. "They look like they'll be quite the handful! It's going to be hilarious to se- ooh a bronze!"

Thus distracted, she stood on tip toe to get a better look. It was only when Sen pointed out the blue did she noticed the hulking dragon that was overshadowed by his shinier brother. "Aaaw, poor little guy. Big guy, I should say. I hope he doesn't hurt himself getting over here. All the other Healers are busy tending the trampled kids they won't even see him! If he goes down, we gotta flag a Healer, okay? I vote we use your bandana."

Jisken watched the bronze cuddle up to the females, somewhat confused at first. Bronzes only chose male riders, right? He'd heard of the occasional brown warming up to those of the softer sex, but this dragon was clearly a bronze, and clearly heading towards the women of the group. But, to Jisken's somewhat conservative relief, the Impression itself was made to a boy, revealing the bronze to simply be flirtatious, straight from the egg. He chuckled, despite himself, and for the first time since he'd entered the Sands was simply enjoying the Hatching, as opposed to worrying over whether or not he'd lose an arm.

So. There he was.

No, not there. Not there. There--No, they moved from that spot too.

Balin was in some general area, just moving around in it a lot, being drug still by this little bratty girl, looking for his stupid brother who could not follow simple directions. This was supposed to be his freedom, and it felt even worse than home without the middle of the three to help play peacemaker. How could it get any worse than it was right now?

Wow, you really shouldn't ask that question.

Eh. Balin? Balinmine? Your Xanthoth is pretty happy where he is. You're going to have to come over and come get him.

The young man looked up and almost right away he regretted it. Was he... Was he sitting in a group of woman like that? Did he really think he was going to--What?!

"What?!"

Outbursts were all but unheard of from him, but how could help it after being... startled like that. Clearing his throat, he suddenly pulled his hand back from Miah. From then on, instead of being pulled by her, he was pushing the girl forward.

"I need you to distract the women near that dragon. I'll give you anything you want."

The first thought he shared with his dragon was not necessarily one to his dragon:

Why?

Again crying out a congratulations, Sela laughed as the little bronze flopped down amidst the girls. Well, and that one was after his own heart. Sela liked the girls, too, after all! He turned his gaze to the blue, then, wide-eyed and hopeful. It was so large, and yet it was much less angry-looking than the others had been...

Veyes had been pretty sure the bronze wouldn't have noticed him but it sure did notice the girls. That also made him chuckle and he wondered if the new rider was going to be in for several flights in the future. Poor Man. But he couldn't spend long on that thought as his eyes returned to the big blue boy on the ground and had to think that it was just in need of a little coaxing to get him where he wanted to go.

He wondered how large this blue would be as an adult...stamina, agility and size all rolled into one. What a dragon he would be in the future. The idea of traveling Pern with a friend like that nudge him just a hair towards his imaginary world once more. Never fully grounded by reality around him, it wasn't hard to be taking away by the thought of being one with a dragon like that...one with goals and dreams combined the will to seek them out and achieve greatness.

Miah's steps were clearly determined as she made her way through the hoard of candidates, hoping to at least make it to the other side by dinner time. They were all crowding together and peering at the dragons in such a way that made passage through them practically impossible. Had she been alone she might have squeezed through, but having Balin attached to her only made things ten times more difficult. She was just "accidentally" stepping on someone's toe in the hope that they would move out of her way when her unwanted caboose suddenly hit the breaks.

The girl looked over her shoulder, the picture of irritation, when she noticed the strange look that Balin had on his face. For a moment she stared at him, and then realization dawned on her. He had... no there was no way that he, Balin, had... but that outburst definitely proved it. Her loser friend had Impressed a dragon. Surely the world was about to come to an end at any minute. She wasn't surprised when Balin let go of her hand, mentally preparing herself for spending the rest of the hatching alone without her companion when she suddenly found herself being propelled towards the dragon. Wait, what was Balin doing?!

She had no words when he explained himself, and continued to be speechless for the next several minutes as they neared the bronze dragon. Finally coming to grips with the situation, she gave a dramatic sniff and marched towards Xanthoth. "Alright alright break it up! This dragon needs food and you're in the way!" She pointed an accusing finger at the candidate that was touching the bronze. "Shoo! All of you! You'll starve him to death and then you'll be sorry!"

At the mention of his name, the dainty Blue puffed himself up a bit. Yes. I am Redhath, he said, still every bit as proud as before. Despite the fact that the Queen clearly thought he was less worthy… well, he knew better and he was certain she’d learn eventually. If she didn’t, then she wasn’t worth his time anyway.

He snorted softly as Arioth continued to gobble up her meat like some wild wher. In sharp contrast, the dainty Blue consumed his meal in small bites, taking his time. There was no need to rush yet. Eating couldn’t exactly be graceful, but Redhath did his very best.

“Hey, I’d make a sharding gorgeous Feline, Rin, and you know it!” M’al said with his usual grin. “I can totally handle all of that relaxation stuff and the graceful stretching.” And he even did a demonstration! Admittedly, the blood from his earlier mauling sort of ruined the effect.

You’re making us look foolish in front of Arioth and Hers! Redhath said quickly, berating M’al. And why did His feel the need to prove anything at all? They were the best, plain and simple.

A'bri was grateful when more dragons hatched and Impressed. That meant more bodies at the table, in between Varth and the Gold. He noticed with a slightly wry smile that the first Blue on the sands impressed to one of the boys that Varth had... damaged... in his searching. He reached out to stroke Varth's head, and received a quiet hiss in response.

razz et me later, Mine. Feed me now. I need to eat now, or they will take all of the good bits!:

"There's plenty," A'bri replied, shaking his head, but he went back to preparing his dragonet's food. If there was one thing he had trouble resisting, it was small hungry beings wanting attention and to be fed. Still, he let his eyes roam the crowd, examining what was happening. Another blue, and a sweet looking green came out, patiently searching out their riders without incident. Varth didn't deign to notice them, though he snorted when A'bri's eyes lingered on the Blue.

:He is not better than me,: Varth groused, and A'bri had to agree. Lovely though the Blue was, he couldn't hope to compare to Varth's elegant coloring and incredible size. Varth seemed to settle, seemed to be content to simply ignore the other dragons, except for his concern about all of the best bits being taken, and A'bri was happy to keep feeding him and reassuring him.

And then another Blue hatched- still, Varth seemed uninterested- who was followed immediately by a Bronze. A'bri couldn't help but admire his smooth coloring, and his easy, confident walk through the crowd. Varth, however, did not approve. His entire bearing changed, and he hissed and growled, glaring out over the sands with baleful, whirling red eyes.

:He is not special, Mine, do not look at him! You are Mine, and I will not share! He cannot have Mine, he must find his own, one who is not as good!:

"Easy, easy!" A'bri moved, turning to stand with his back to the sands so that it was clear he wasn't looking at the Bronze any longer. "Settle, Varth, settle. Look, here, have more food, I know you're still hungry." Silently, testing it out, he added, :And I know I'm yours. And you're mine. I don't need any silly old Bronze, especially not one that needs fawning over.:

Varth settled slightly, though his eyes still whirled. He stopped hissing, at least, and turned back to the food, though he stopped to look up and growl between the bites of meat that A'bri hurriedly prepared for him.

That hadn't gotten as intended, and B'lin cursed himself for not having a Plan B like he normally would. The last time he'd been this thrown off he was ten, and some girl had kissed him on the cheek with no warning at all. He was getting horrible flashbacks of that, and worse ones of his mother cooing over the 'relationship'. Ugh.

He almost, almost blushed, carefully angling himself to not so much as bump shoulders with any of the woman as he moved through them as if completely a maze. It didn't show all of how he really felt on his face, but then, did it ever? Yes, from just looks alone he looked embarrassed, downright agitated even. Somewhere there was a feeling of completion he hadn't felt before. For the briefest of moments he didn't worry about his family or certain other annoyance in his life. Reaching out, he brushed his hand along the dragon.

"Let's...get you food." Maybe this was going to be a match made in Heaven after all.

I'd like to stay here a bit longer, Mine. This lovely is more delicious than anything they will feed me.

Or not.

Merik wasn't exactly sure what Balin was trying to do among all those girls, but he cheered him on anyway. He elbowed the two boys beside him, still bubbling with pride for his friend. "That my roommate, there! A Bronzerider, my roommate. Good on him, dont'cha think?" He never stopped watching the blue out of the corner of his eye (he couldn't turn away from a Dragon that perfect), but Balin - B'lin now, probably - was a face he could put a name too, and he felt like he couldn't possibly clap loud enough.
