"A little bit," Seth replied trying to show some signs of improvement. The following spree of coughing into her upper arm didn't really support her response even though she was in fact feeling a bit better. Fairly quick to turn things away from herself, Seth asked, " How was your first day at the Library?", before she continued eating.

A bit forgetful about work, Maryl looked up. "Oh well, it wasn't too bad. They went over the index system with me, general rules employees follow, how to handle the books carefully, things like that." She looked down, "But now I'm supposed to be transferring to the castle library in the castle because they don't have a lot of people working there yet." She didn't want to feel too bad about being transferred on her first day, but the convenience of how close the castle was seemed like a cover for them not wanting her at the great library in the mountains.

"A transfer on the first day, huh? Well, I guess you'll be working in a bigger venue. People were probably shooting for spots at the castle library since before it reopened." Seth nodded as she continued eating. She looked up from her soup briefly toward Maryl. It looked like Maryl wasn't particularly happy about the change, which was reasonable. It was her first day. She'd have to have another first day at a new place pretty soon. "Don't worry about it, Maryl. I'm sure it was nothing personal." Seth shook her head.

Maryl nodded slightly in agreement, but not quite emotionally satisfied yet. She had remembered something else from that day though. It was a fairly blatant disruption in her workday. "Sarah? Did you notice anything unusual coming from the castle today?" She asked, trying not to seem too off handed about it.

Seth's eyes widened a bit as she looked up from her soup again, though it shouldn't have been surprising that Maryl noticed it too. Glancing to the side as she thought back a bit to earlier that day, Seth started, "Well yeah. I couldn't see anything but Dad said there was a lot of energy radiating from the castle. Like big complex spell energy." Seth didn't have the knowledge of the arcane to describe it very effectively but she did have a good grasp on what it felt like even though she was fairly groggy at the time.

Maryl nodded slightly and sighed. "Yeah. Well, do you remember that dream I had that I told you about from a few nights ago? The one with the images of a sword, a ritual and people rising from the twisting nether?"

"Is... IS THAT WHAT HAPPENED TODAY?!" Seth half shouted almost dropping her spoon into her bowl, good to know the flu hadn't made her throat too sore as to inhibit her voice. Perhaps it was the soup.

Seth took a few seconds to calm down and shook her head. "This didn't mess up the space time continuum did it? And... did it even work?"

Kel had just returned into the kitchen, but seeing as how he just heard Seth's voice rise he was more relieved than bothered. She sounded much better than that morning. Rather than say anything, Kel returned to his seat and resumed eating.

"Yeah, that was today.", Maryl nodded, "I don't think they've done anything to the 'space time continuum',", Maryl stumbled around that phrase not really knowing what it meant. it didn't seem like the air was too drastically affected though, "but they were successful. They created two heirs, but... It... That gigantic man wasn't happy about it. He had slain them both and took their children with him to his realm." Maryl tried to eat a bit more quickly since she noticed Kel return.

Who ever it was that they invoked to create their progeny must have not been appeased by their actions. It still doesn't make any sense. Why throw away immortality to create successors? Well again, nothing they've done from the beginning has really made any sense. Them abruptly dying like that is going to create some confusion, if not throw everything into complete disarray for a while. Seth finished up her soup before looking up again. "What do you think Dad?"

"I dunno. I remember a particularly loony apothecary mumbled something about a magical process using the elements to create life, but unless light and dark are restored that ritual doesn't reach its full effect. Still, if my burn had anything to do with it, then the missing elements aren't missing anymore." Kel held up his right hand, which was normal again from dark energy leaving his hand at the end of the ritual. Since he was done not too long ago, he folded his arms and sat back.

Maryl paused in eating to address what Kel pointed out. "Maybe that's why they created their heirs? To seal away mystery and restore light and dark? Maybe we could find out more if we went to the ritual site?" Maryl remembered her being transferred and the fact that this would take her right to that location. "Well, since I have to work at the castle now... I guess I could go see it and tell you what I find." She nodded, oblivious to any possible danger at the castle. She saw what happened, but had no idea what tomorrow would bring.

"I'll go too.", Kel nodded, "If that's the case it would explain a few things. I'm also curious to see what the other royals have in store for us as well." Kel looked over to Seth, who looked to be done eating. "Seth, if you're up to it tomorrow, why not come along?"

"You don't have to ask. I want to know about this just as much as you do." Seth shrugged.

Kel looked back toward the kitchen doorway as he thought to himself. I wonder if they factored Maryl into their odd little balancing equation. Though I guess even the now dead King and queen wouldn't factor an orphan raised by a smith to have that kind of elemental power.

Maryl spent the remainder of that evening in anticipation of the next day. There were too many things to wonder about and look forward to. Another first day at work since she was transferred to the castle library, the trip to the castle that was now much closer, wondering what the castle was like then the mystery of the creations of the king and queen. There was still what was going to happen now that they were dead. Maryl wasn't into politics but she knew this was a turning point in the world at large.

With the swirl of bewilderment, Maryl had a difficult time getting to sleep. She tossed a bit while taking some time to calm down and eventually fell asleep late into the night.

After helping Seth back to her room, Kel did what he usually did during the evenings, he focused on his work finishing up projects here and there then taking the time to make a few changes to Seth's sword. Not really sure what to expect at the castle, Kel arranged his equipment carefully. As per his usual he went to bed fairly late in the night.

Kel started the morning off with his usual calisthenics and a bit of time in the smithy to prepare things for the day before he would start cooking breakfast. After finishing his morning rounds, he would then consider waking up the now two kids if it looked like they might be late for something. Back in the day there was school for Seth, gymnastics for Seth, ballet for Seth, those strange people who sprang off of walls and scaled buildings, and now just work for Seth.

As Kel was just leaving the smithy, he had Seth's sword in tow and swinging about as he made the quick jog upstairs. He gently opened the door and placed the one and a half hand sword against the wall and doorframe next to him. "Seth? Are you feeling better this morning?", he asked as he paced across the room to the bedside and placed a hand over Seth's forehead.

Seth opened her eyes and looked up toward her forehead then over toward her father with a rare but gentle smile. "Much better, thanks." She slowly sat up and noticed something straight ahead. her sword wasn't where she left it but now by the door and slightly luminescent. "Uh... Did you do something to my sword?"

"well your fever is gone..." Kel muttered as he removed his hand while Seth sat up. "Yeah, just a few modifications.", he said as he folded his arms behind his back and started to return toward the bedroom door to enter the hallway. "Breakfast is ready by the way."

"Ok... Thanks, dad." Seth was a bit baffled, and at the moment figured her father wouldn't explain to her what he actually did with the weapon. She slid out from under the blankets of her bed and stretched her arms above her head before following after Kel.
