"Doesn't that get confusing?" Valzar asked as he attempted to mirror the symbols.

"Yes. You have to keep a clear head, which is another defense the guard supplies. An enemy has to unravel the safeguard just right or damage can be done. An enemy will be frustrated and likely slip up." She took a deep breath, emitting calmness as she reversed the second set of symbols.

"Let me see it again," he said trying to mimic her moves.

Callista slowed down and did the signs again. "Sorry. I forgot to go slow."

Callista started again, at the beginning of the safeguard. "Ready? Here we go." She started the symbols, trying to go slow so that Valzar could keep up.

Valzar nodded and followed the movement, copying it with his own hooves.
Crimson eyes scanned the night as the vampiress inhaled deeply. One of the hunters let their young out of their sight... Sangula smirked as she began to stalk her prey. They should know better by now...

Callista stiffened instantly, her eyes scanning the ground as she sent her senses out to pinpoint the evil she felt. She traced the pattern that she had just taught Valzar to put up a small defense. "Valzar, get out of here..."

Valzar frowned, "Why? I thought you would teach me..."
Sangula laughed softly as she approached, sensing the weak barrier the child constructed. "How cute, the little girl can throw around a few spells..."

Callista didn't look away from Sangula, but her voice was pleading. "Valzar, please, leave while you still can." She took a deep breath. "I can handle her." Mentally she added while you get away...

Valzar blinked, "Did I just hear your voice in my head?" He then spotted the dark female and skittered a few steps back.
Sangula only smiled, "Your friend's afraid of me, little girl, and he doesn't even know what I am. Why aren't you?"

Callista shot Valzar a look. "You couldn't have heard my voice. Now go." She focused more energy into the barrier between her and the vampire. "I'm not afraid of you because I know you for the evil you are, Vampire. The Undead do not scare me." Her insides clinched at the lie, but just like her father had told her in his stories, she kept her voice even, not letting her fear show.

Sangula laughed softly, "Oh but we should. Those like your father have caused me a bit of trouble during my time here. I will truly enjoy this little bit of pay back..."
"What about you?" Valzar whispered eying the dark female nervously. She reminded him of his cousin, she had the same darkness around her...

Callista moved to put herself between Valzar and Sangula. "You can't scare me. I see through your illusions." She felt her voice start to shake and went silent. Valzar, if you really can hear me, run. She means to kill me, and I won't let you die with me. I'll be ok, Daddy, Mommy, or Serena will come for me.

"I can not leave you to face her alone," Valzar said summoning his courage and moving to stand beside her working to bring up one of his own defense spells to strengthen her.
"How delicious," Sangula smirked licking her lips. "Dinner and desert all wrapped up in one neat little package... now to just get you out of it..." she hissed as she started to use her 'gift' and drain the power from both shields. It was a slow process, but she was certain the delicates within were worth the wait...
