Creating believable scents would be a difficult process for the Uchiha to go about doing. Obviously, he wouldn't be able to make them out of nothing, so he would need to figure out some way to do so. Like the mirror for the visual assault, Sukotto could use some sort of scent producing tool or an object that had a scent on it in order to dupe his opponents. He figured that something that had his own scent on it would work, since that's what they would be tracking in the first place, but there would be a chance that they would catch onto him instead of the object that merely smelled like him, since they'd smell the same and the opponent could guess correctly. Sukotto didn't like leaving things to chance, so he decided to attempt to think of a way that would definitely fool the enemy instead of something that would only possibly fool them. He knew of jutsu that fooled one's sight by appearing to alter their surroundings, and so he wondered if he would be able to fake a scent by using an illusionary technique. Unfortunately, the Uchiha hadn't read anything about creating a scent through jutsu alone, so he wasn't sure how to go about doing it. Unfortunately, there weren't exactly any genjutsu masters in Shimagakure, so Sukotto would either have to figure it out on his own, or seek out a genjutsu master in a different location, both of which would be extremely difficult, and the latter potentially dangerous.

Since he hadn't quite figured out any sort of solid strategy for attacking an enemy's scent, Sukotto decided to stick with it for a little while longer before moving on, as he wanted enough data on each of the senses. Leaving one out meant that he would overlook an entire branch of shinobi specialists, and he really didn't intend on doing that. The Uchiha figured that either the scent would have to be either very subtle, so it wouldn't alarm the target, or very strong, so that it would somewhat overwhelm the intended receiver of the illusionary technique, forcing them to pick up the given scent. Sukotto began to think of the various items that were capable of the latter, since all he'd need for the former would be something that smelled like him, such as an article of clothing. A strong scent could easily be created by the burning of something, a feat that the Uchiha was quite capable of. He first considered bringing along some sort of oil to use, as burning oil had a really distinct smell. However, he realized that all he'd need to create was a large concentration of smoke throughout an area. While most people avoided breathing smoke, they didn't attempt to escape it until they had already taken a breath or two, and by that time, Sukotto would have cast his genjutsu.

While Sukotto figured that his idea for using smoke to lure the enemy's sense of smell into a trap was pretty good, he first needed to determine how to go about doing it before deciding that it was actually feasible. The most obvious solution would be to perform some sort of fire-based ninjutsu upon the landscape in order to create the smoke, and then allow his chakra to seep into the air, which would be what he needed to do in order to lace his genjutsu in with the smoke. After the target or even targets inhaled the modified air, Sukotto would have the advantage of already having a small amount of his own chakra inside of their body, which he could use to begin the illusion. It wouldn't require much for the opponent to breathe in, probably only a quick sniff of the smoke, in order for Sukotto to have enough hold on the target to cast his jutsu. This sounded like a good idea to the Uchiha, but it also had its potential risks. If he wasn't careful with his fire jutsu, the chuunin could accidently set more on fire than he had intended on. Additionally, if he was in a situation where there wasn't anything in the environment to burn, such as a large body of water or a mountainous area, then he would have no luck in using this special method of casing his genjutsu on the intended target.

After considering a few of the potentials and risks associated with targeting an enemy's sense of smell to lure them into a genjutsu, Sukotto figured that he would move onto another one of the senses, and continue his still incomplete thoughts about the sense of smell another time. One of the senses that the Uchiha had failed to really delve into was the sense of touch, so he decided that it would be beneficial to consider it for use in casting his genjutsu in the future. The sense of touch was a difficult thing to affect, especially since most shinobi trained to be adept at avoiding being struck or even merely touched by their foes. Sukotto would have a lot of difficulty in pulling this sort of thing off if he attempted to touch his opponent in the form of a taijutsu strike, as he had seen opponents who were very good at dodging physical attacks. Honestly, part of the reason that he was so interested in genjutsu was because it was an area that many shinobi failed to train against. Many of the shinobi that Sukotto knew either strictly focused on clan jutsu, teamwork, offensive physical attacks, or defensive physical skills and jutsu. The Uchiha knew that the sense of touch would be something that would be quite useful to manipulate, as most people believed something was real if they could feel it.

Sukotto figured that this would be another case in which his fire element could come in handy. If he managed to create a fire that was near his target, then it would only take one more step to move his chakra from the fire into the surrounding heat. Once his opponent felt the heat of the flame, then Sukotto would be able to use their sense of touch to fool them into another illusion. Previously, the Uchiha had disregarded the fire element as something that could be only used for offensive techniques, and that had caused him to value it less since that fact offered him less strategy to use. In fact, there seemed to be many other uses for fire, and he would work hard to find them so that he'd make his element as strong as it could be. Since the Uchiha had so quickly come up with a way to use the sense of touch to his advantage when casting genjutsu, he decided to move onto another sense, so that he kept a somewhat balanced level of knowledge with all of them. As he searched through the forest, the chuunin decided that he'd move onto the sense of taste, the sense that he felt that he would have the most trouble with, since it would be quite difficult to get an opponent to taste anything against their will.

The Uchiha knew that it would be difficult to come up with a jutsu that placed some sort of taste in one's mouth, so he figured that this sense in particular probably needed some sort of item involved with it in order for him to manipulate it into helping his genjutsu. He knew that sometimes people could taste the air, but that taste was quite faint, and quite difficult to replicate, especially with the fire element alone. Fortunately, Sukotto didn't know of too many shinobi who relied on their sense of taste in order to do anything very productive, but he figured that this kind of ninja did exist somewhere, perhaps in some sort of clan. It would be useful in detecting whether or not something was poisonous before it was too late. With this in mind, Sukotto thought that he'd need to get his target to ingest some sort of elixir that he could lace with his chakra in order to create a genjutsu. And then it hit him. Sukotto had the idea of using this sort of tactic against targets that were found in large, public areas. The Uchiha could lace as simple a drink as water with his chakra, and as soon as his oblivious target took a sip of the liquid and tasted it, he'd be able to cast his genjutsu. If this was an assassination mission and Sukotto managed to kill the target with his genjutsu, then whoever examined the body would find no trace of poison, which would effectively cover the Uchiha's identity.

One thing that Sukotto wasn't sure about was lacing his chakra with whatever liquid it was that he tried to get his target to drink. Unfortunately, he couldn't use the water element, so he didn't quite know how to effectively place his own chakra into the water. The only experience that he had had with placing his chakra into water involved the water walking technique that most every shinobi knew or eventually learned, and the single time that he caused the water beneath his feet to bubble when he was training to enhance the power of his Phoenix Form. The Uchiha supposed that this could be a sufficient amount of training with his chakra placed in and around water, but he wouldn't be sure until he tested it out. After zipping through a few more thoughts on the subject, the Uchiha spotted a large collection of bamboo sticks that were tightly bundled together. He knew that in cases like this patch, it was likely that one or more of the sticks would be quite powerful and flexible, exactly what he was looking for. As he shuffled his way though the bundle of sticks, he began considering the final sense that he had saved specifically for last. The sense that would be capable of reaching shinobi who were in hiding, hindering shinobi who were adept at detecting, and stopping teamwork in its tracks; the sense of hearing.

Even though his Sharingan was quite efficient at discovering the location of hidden shinobi, Sukotto had always feared facing an opponent who he couldn't detect. Since they'd be hidden from him, there would be no way for the Uchiha to hit them or see their attacks coming beforehand, so it would be much, much more difficult to dodge them. In addition, if the sneak attack managed to hit, it was likely that it would be much stronger than a regular attack, since Sukotto wouldn't know which part of his body to brace for impact. He had chosen to train Senritsu in the art of stealth for many reasons, and the effectiveness of it was the primary one. It was the single set of skills that were the easiest to use for both offense and defense, and there wasn't a justu requirement, like there would be with the male Uchiha and his genjutsu. By his reckoning, Senritsu would become one of the most powerful ninja in the village by using her stealth alone. Other shinobi used it occasionally, but none that Sukotto had come across used it as their primary means of strategy. Since the hiding shinobi couldn't be struck by physical attacks like ninjutsu or taijutsu, Sukotto figured that he could come up with some sort of sneaky genjutsu trick to get around the fact that they were hidden from view.

Since Sukotto wouldn't be able to target them directly, it was likely that his genjutsu wouldn't be quite as strong against them, and probably wouldn't manage to do any sort of harm to them, since he would have difficulty focusing on a hidden target. However, the Uchiha figured that he wouldn't need to focus too much to cast a genjutsu that managed to hinder them a little so that either they were easier to detect, or so that their sneak attack was reduced or nullified completely. The Uchiha's method would be in the form of the sense of hearing, since it would probably be the most difficult to avoid. Indeed, if an opponent was hiding from Sukotto, they didn't need to see him, touch him, smell him, and the sense of taste had no application in this situation. However, they wouldn't be able to help but hear him if they were unfamiliar with the kind of genjutsu that he possesed. The only thing that Sukotto would need to do would be create some sort of sound that he could lace with his chakra, and as soon as the hidden enemy heard the noise, they would only have moments to resist his genjutsu, which would greatly increase his odds of finding them or avoiding their sneaky assaults. Unfortunately, he couldn't sing, so Sukotto needed to think up a way to make some sort of sound that would be loud enough and harmonious enough for an enemy to focus on for a few short moments.

Sukotto wondered to himself about using the fire affinity to create some sort of sound that the enemy could become entranced with. Unfortunately, he didn't think that the crackling of flames was quite loud enough to create the effect that he wanted, but he figured that there was some sort of way around that, it just required a bit of more thought. Instead of using ninjutsu, the Uchiha could also carry along an item to help himself with creating the sound. A musical instrument of some sort would work, but the chuunin knew next to nothing about how to play any, so that would be a difficult path to cross. He had heard of shinobi experimenting with sound jutsu, but they were very few and far in between. It seemed as though it was a difficult sort of thing to master, and for the most part, the Uchiha heard of them using items or devices that produced sound, but the devices were quite crude and bulky. Because of his fighting style, Sukotto couldn't afford to be slowed at all, since he couldn't take very many hits due to his lack of endurance training. It seemed as though he'd have to rely on some sort of instrument, but he figured that it could be as simple as a whistle in order to get the enemy's attention enough for him to get them under the influence of his genjutsu.

After considering the items about using sound to cast his jutsu more easily, Sukotto stumbled across a near-perfect candidate for what he wanted. He withdrew his single kunai and cut the bamboo pole at a length that he could work with. The Uchiha needed a stretchy string of sorts, and he wasn't quite sure if the weapon shop was open, so he instead decided to head to the Estate, where there was likely some string hidden away in the junk drawers.

Kazuma walked through the forest with Hanabira looking for a decent spot, somewhere the Bamboo wasn't growing so thick. " They probably think I've come back to burn down the rest of their forest... It'd be easier, look how thick this stuff is!" He groaned while pushing through a particularly dense cluster of Bamboo. " Screw going any further into this mess, I'll start cutting here!" Finally the would be swordsman had gotten sick of the walking and drew the katana, remembering the trick latch this time so it atleast didn't get stuck on him. He made a mental note to get rid of that stupid thing. Taking the stance and grip on the hilt Aya had taught him earlier he got into position and raised the katana above his head and slashed downwards with a slight twist mid way to make a diagonal cut across the bamboo shoot. He must have been getting better because the cut was clean and the shoot came crashing down. " Didn't stand a chance!" He said triumphantly.

It had been awhile since Hanabira had spent time in the bamboo forest with someone else. She often came here to write in her notebook and journal alone. Last time she had been in the forest was with Shin and Tanu, which had not turned out to be a very good memory. Walking closely behind Kazuma, Hanabira stopped when he mentioned how dense the bamboo stalks were. Her olive eyes watched carefully as Kazuma cut through the stalks with ease. After the bamboo stalk hit the ground, Hanabira continued forward. Walking over to it cautiously as to stay out of the reach of Kazuma's swing, Hanabira knelt down to begin carefully cutting pieces of the bamboo stalk into manageable pieces to carve arrows out of with her kunai. "Mm.. Kazuma," Hanabira started, not looking at the boy as she briefly paused to play with the tip of her kunai. "I think you were right... When you started that fire," the girl told the boy as he mentioned burning down the rest of the forest. "It was reckless, but... It kept the Meho's at bay long enough for help to come to the village," Hanabira added in as she looked up at Kazuma with an encouraging look.

" You're probably the only one that thinks that." He spoke with a touch of anger, not towards Hanabira but the village. " But thanks..." He said quietly. Moving on from that he got in position to cut another shoot down. The attack was much the same as the first though the cut wasn't quite as clean, the blade seemed to catch towards the end and broke the rest instead of cutting it. " I can cut bigger or smaller ones if it helps." He suggested awkwardly, not really knowing much of anything about making arrows." So that mission in Onbin Kashou, is that going to be your first? Your probably pretty excited huh? " He asked, although he guessed she was probably more nervous than anything. Tanu and Kazu where the types to go looking for trouble and Hanabira was the complete opposite. That probably had alot to do with why they'd never spent anytime together before. Speaking of trouble while he was here he had to get revenge on Tanu somehow...

Hanabira hadn't meant to upset Kazuma, so she felt just a tad bit awkward having said something. She still wasn't very good at talking leisurely with others. The girl could teach genjutsu and share knowledge, but having a normal conversation was still a challenge. "Mm. Doesn't matter," Hanabira said with a shrug of her shoulders as she finished taking the sections of bamboo wood that would work well for her arrows. "Uhm.. Technically it is," Hanabira said a bit nervously, remembering that there had been a mission to rescue her from the mainland where Hide had lost his life in saving her... Hanabira got rather quite after she answered that question, since her thoughts went back on Hide. He hadn't scolded her that night that she and Kazuma had gotten in trouble due to Tomoko. She had cried the entire time after going to the hospital, but Kazuma had been scolded rather harshly that night.

Hanabira had retracted into her shyness again and Kazuma didn't really know what to say. How exactly was he supposed to get through to her? He attacked another bamboo shoot, cutting through it with ease. There was a bit of anger behind his swing. Why was everyone in the village so messed up? "Hmph... This sucks." He sighed looking back over at Hanabira who was still messing around with the bamboo and seemed a bit upset by something. Looked like it was time to do something a bit more exciting, get her mind off whatever was bothering her. " Hey finish up with that. I've got an idea..." A mischievous grin spread across his face, another of his brilliant ideas had been born. With that she sheathed his Katana and waited up for Hanabira.
