It's in the garage. *Bard motions* Through there. You go on ahead. I'll grab us some cold drinks. I have a feeling we're going to need them.

*Luke grinned. Now that's what he liked to hear.*

Sounds good to me.

*Luke doesn't mess around. He's through the door Bard motioned towards and into the garage.*

*Bard grabs a 6-pack of Dr. Pepper bottles from his fridge and heads for the garage. He enters the garage and the sauna-like heat of Chicago in August hits him full on*

*he lets out a low whistle* Welcome to my pesonal oven.

*The garage wasn't some last minute addition. It meant BUSINESS. The place had all the equipment necessary for car repair and engine rebuild. Luke walked around, taking it in. It was clean, which was nice. On the back wall, there were work benches and a wall with tool boxes. In the far corner, there was a shelf with repair manuals and dog-earred copies of Car and Driver. On the cement flooring, there were work mats and rollers, drain pans, a jack...*

A cherry picker. *Luke walks up to it. Those weren't cheap. A Bend-Pak to suspend the car.* *points* This is the new one. With the alumnium-based Jack stands...

*And there she was...THE JAG. Luke makes a pained face. He'd forgotten what they'd done to her. He runs his hand along the near-destroyed Jag, looking her over.*

*Luke hadn't heard what Bard had said.*

Damn, man. *grins* How did you get all this stuff? What did you do? Inherit this place from a some rich dead mechanic?

*Bard shrugs, not really wanting to talk about it*

We've got everything we need to do the job. That's what counts.

*He lifts the six-pack* Dr. Pepper?
PostPosted: Fri Apr 07, 2006 11:06 pm

*grins a little and takes one. Guess they were havin' some light beer.* Yeah, sure. Thanks.

*When Luke takes it, he suddenly realizes. It is hot as balls in the garage. And he's wearing layers.*

Wheeeeewww. *He's sweating a little already and wipes his brow with his shirt sleeve.* It's a furnace in here.

*looks for fans... an air conditioning unit.... he then points to the garage door* Would opening the garage door make it better - or worse?

*Bard laughs. He's already sweating* One way to find out.

*he flips a switch on the wall and the garage door slides open. Mid-morning sunlight filters in, and a warm breeze comes with it*

*Luke walks just outside the garage door as it opens.*

Yeah, definitely the right move. *Luke stretches a little. He goes to the side, to take a look around. Bard lives in the middle of the suburbs... upscale town houses, picket fences, and grass on all the lawns at a specific length, like a politican's hair in campaign year.*

*But it feels like home to Luke anyway.*

*When the heat gets to him, Luke takes off his jacket, then his t-shirt and then the shirt underneath, and then his undershirt. Goddamn. It's not November here, that's for sure.*

*Luke pulls his t-shirt back over his head and looks back over to Bard and smirks* Wow.

*Bard takes a pull on his Dr. Pepper and smirks* What?

Nothin'. I just never would have figured you would live out in the 'burbs, man.

I'm not bashing it. This is my world. I just figured you'd have some bachelor pad in the city or live out in the boonies somewhere.

I tried that once. *Bard walks over to join Luke* I lived in a high rise in New York like a writer is supposed to.

*he pats Luke on the shoulder* I missed having a lawn.

*points* Well you have one now. A nice one.

All you need is a wife, a dog, a minivan, and 2.5 kids.

*Kids. There's that word again. Christ, it's amazing how many times he says it a day. He decides NOT to think about it.*

*adds, turning around* OR you could stick with the Jaguar.

*Bard grins* Well let's start with the Jaguar, at least.

Yeah, we better if we want to put this thing back together before... 1.... 2 'o clock this morning.

*walks over, and picks up his bookbag* This isn't exactly a day project.

*Bard walks over to the car, presses his hand against the hood*

I took the liberty of draining the fluids and taking pictures before I came to get you.

*he examines the hinges on the hood of the car, produces a sharpie from his pocket, and marks them so they'll be able to find them later*

Ready to take this hood off?
